Have to say I was a bit disappointed that it's really a pasty shop/bakery, and not a full blow breakfast kind of joint. Having said that, I had two pastries here, including an almond croissant, that were just amazing. As I was eating both of them I said to my wife that they were about the most delicious thing I have eaten in the last year. Coffee was phenomenal. We will be back! I ordered a breve latte and a Kouign Aman, which is like a Croissant in that it's flaky with sugar and butter that gets caramelized in the baking process. YUM! I am disappointed. Based on their Yelp profile and online presence I was excited to try out this place and sit in their cute space while on a break from work. I walked in the door and toward the counter and was immediately stopped and told to wait at the cart for them (I guess because of covid.. even though they are still requiring masks) so I did. They told me they would take my order since it's my first time there, but I'm supposed to order through an app.. (thanks?) I was the only customer there. They made the next guest order through the app. And we waited outside because their indoor seating is closed. Not sure why a business would pay rent on such a big space, and promote their seating area and atmosphere when they have such strict guidelines and guests can't even order inside. We were the only two customers there, the employees just standing around, I'm not sure why it was too much to just take our orders instead of using the app.. lol. It's a shame that this place is letting "covid" ruin their business, by choice considering mandates have been lifted. I won't be back, just not my vibe. I just stopped in to this place after living in the neighborhood for more years than I will admit. It is amazing! The decor is hip, stylish, eclectic and very Bloomfield with an old tax map on the wall. My daughter had a cold brew and I just had a drip but both were outstanding. Hodge, the proprietor, is a gracious host and tolerated my hyperactive, oversharing ass for some time after they were supposed to have been closed. Sadly we just sold the house that was walking distance but I'm still in Bloomfield so I will be definitely going again. read more

Best coffee shop in Northern New Jersey, bar none. Great Cascadia vibe--you feel like you've left NJ, a really nice break from the crowded Essex County chaos. Coffee is excellent, loads of workspace, staff could not be friendlier. Opens early (6:00 AM, which is another big plus. Sometimes supporting a local business can mean a trade off. Not here: better coffee, better prices, better atmosphere. Wish there was a larger bike rack outside, but probably not their fault. read more

As is quite clear in my original post, there's a lot to admire and be enthusiastic about 23 Skidoo. I've been promoting my fandom to others in the community and beyond since the day they opened. Today, however, I was a bit put-off by my experience. I came in for a change of scenery and to work on my laptop for a couple hours. At one point I needed to take a short computer call on Skype from a colleague. Incidentally, I was wearing headphones, so the person I was speaking with was only heard by me. During the call I was interrupted by one of the owners and asked to take my "phone call" outside. I can guess, but truly don't understand why. All around the room were other people having conversations with one another or staring at their laptops with headphones also. I earlier saw another customer take a call, but it didn't bother me. If the cafe is meant to be a quiet space (uncommon, but a totally legitimate thing, if communicated as one to everyone), then why is the owner's selection of music always so loud? I find this a lot more disturbing and non-conducive to thinking than the conversations of other patrons. In short, I felt unfairly singled out and unwelcome, particularly since I try to be a regular and am always friendly with the staff. I was not speaking unusually loudly and certainly no louder than others in the room having face-to-face conversations. It's discrimination in a way, when you think about it. They can speak, but I can't? I hope the owners think about this inconsistency, as it doesn't seem to make sense. If someone is making a ruckus that is clearly disturbing other customers, then I get it, but this certainly wasn't the case with me today. read more

What a cute place!! I finally got to visit 23 Skiddoo today and I couldn't have had a better experience! The staff is LOVELY and the coffee is even better. I ordered a Cortado (which I've never had before) and a scone. My drink was wonderful....intense, creamy and not bitter at all. The presentation was awesome as well. The pastry, I am told, is from Balthazar which apparently is a good thing because my scone was delish. Overall a really nice experience. I sincerely hope this place does well. I love that there is a true neighborhood coffee spot here in the southend of Bloomfield/Montclair:). read more

My wife and I love this place. We've been going almost every day since I've been on paternity leave. All the staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. The oat milk lattes are incredible, and during the hot summer months getting one iced is the perfect way to start the day. I've been here a handful of times to enjoy a latte while I do some work for school and it's always a good experience. It's a lovely cafe with plenty of room to sit and focus on work, nestled in a quiet neighborhood with plenty of free street parking. The owner and employees are pleasant and friendly. The decor is perfectly curated and their plants also look happy, which I always appreciate. It's a welcoming space and a great addition to Bloomfield which had previously lacked a good coffee shop. I actually look forward to school starting again for me so that I can come back to do work with a comforting cup of coffee at my side. read more

I had a cortado that was amazing-- creamy and smooth, but also a nice strong coffee flavor that you'd expect (without any bitterness).
