Wow! We were looking for a place to try for DineLA and were so surprised to find this restaurant located in the Marriott in Torrance. Drinks were very strong, had to switch with my friend because I'm not a tequila fan, but good if you're looking to get a bang for your buck. Our appetizers, the shrimp ceviche and the squash blossom empanada were both delicious. The shrimp ceviche was a little overcooked and the shrimp came in large pieces, but the flavor was overall great that paired perfectly with the large corn chip-like tostada. The squash blossom empanada was perfectly cheesy and had a delicious side of sauce, and the blossom had a great texture, and as it was my first time trying squash blossom, I'm a new fan! Our mains were the fish and the adobo lamb shank, which were also amazing! I expected to like the lamb shank better, as I love lamb, but the fish was a surprise hit! Great flavor from the lamb shank, salty and pairs perfectly with the creamy and perfectly textured polenta. The cream sauce with the fish was amazing, and artichoke and potatoes were perfect sides. Finally, churros were FILLED with caramel! It came out so hot, and we were confused as there was no caramel dipping sauce, but as soon as we bit into the steaming hot churros the caramel spilled right out! This place saved us!!!! Ok this is totally irrelevant but can we talk for a minute about LA's shortcomings? I mean the entire world knows us as the city of the stars and Hollywood and luxury and bla bla bla but do they know that you cannot find an open kitchen after 10? Why can't we be more like NY? Anyways, so it's 930 and we're out the door and we cannot find an open kitchen anywhere. Hermosa is closed, Manhattan beach is closed. Places that are open only serve drinks. Except for this little hotel gem. And I walked in here with very low expectations because we were desperate but they absolutely blew me away. The cauliflower dish - Bomb! The tacos - Bomb! The Quinoa bowl - Bomb! The gin and tonic - One of the best! The Lemonade cocktail - The star of the night! Will be back! read more

Best Ahi Tuna Salad EVER... had not the best expectations after I saw what others ordered. BUT when my Ahi Tuna salad came I was impressed. Loaded with pan seared Ahi Tuna, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Delicious lime dressing. Spicy mayo to spread on the tuna. Sesame seeds. Fresh greens and tomatoes. Avocado. Love to report a good find and a nice surprise. If you come here, in my opinion, there is one item on the menu that I'd order over and over again... the Ahi Tuna Salad! Went here for happy hour. What a great deal! We initially ordered the roasted cauliflower, the pretzel and the tater tots. The cauliflower was just ok - odd that it has golden raisins with it. The pretzel was really a pretzel bread loaf. It came with a bowl of this amazing cheese sauce to dip it in. I think there was horseradish mixed in because it has a little kick to it. At the end I was actually eating the cheese sauce off of a fork (it was so good, I didn't want to waste any of it)! The tater tots were very unique. There were little squares of potatoes and slices of slightly spicy sausage, with an over easy egg on top. So good - especially when the egg yolk oozes down over the potatoes. The pretzel was so good that we ordered a second one! And we ordered the chips and salsa - pass on those, totally not worth $5 We both got the white wine that was $6 on the happy hour menu. I love this wine! It was the oaky kind that is my absolute favorite. By the end, our bill came to $53. Not bad for a total of 4 glasses of wine and 5 dishes. I was so excited when I learned a new hip restaurant opened in Torrance. Sadly when I came here to try their lunch menu I was terribly underwhelmed. The food was very meh. My boyfriend and I ordered some pretty traditional menu items, and only one of them was above average. We ordered: Charred Cauliflower: this was actually pretty good. The cauliflower was cooked well, the Green goddess sauce was tasty, and the sweetness from the raisins made it quite balanced. Madrona Burger: average at best. Nothing was memorable about it, and I could get an equal or better burger from In N Out for a quarter of the price. French Dip: this sandwich came with only a small sad layer of meat, which made the $18 price tag seem a bit ridiculous. My bigger problem with the experience was the service. We asked what the rotating beer tap was and no one could answer. I asked for a fried egg with my burger and my boyfriend ordered onion rings - both were forgotten and brought out at the end of the meal. Our servers generally seemed very confused. On the other hand, the bar and the decor here are excellent. Super modern, with a nice outdoor patio and a fire pit, this is a fun place to hang out. The service was fairly three or four staff yet they could not handle two people at the bar. service was unresponsive to guest and when waiting at the bar the main waiter selected who he wanted to help. I think the rating is really a 3.5, but not quite a 4. At least yet... After our initial bad experience, we were contacted by the restaurant and were comped a breakfast. Kudos for them doing so. We were still willing to give it another try, but we were in no hurry. By reaching out to us so soon and positively, we wanted to go sooner than later. We went this past Saturday 11/26/16. I sadly do not recall our waitress's name, but she was very nice and attentive. Between the 2 of us, we ordered a breakfast carne asada, poached eggs, a stack of pancakes and the tater tots. The carne asada was outstanding. The tots were also really good. They were a little less crispy than we were hoping, but they were still very good. We might ask to have them a little crispier next time. We brought some of the tots home as leftovers, and when re-heated in the toaster oven...the crispiness was perfect and they were even tastier. The pancakes and eggs were good. Their coffee was very good and they left a small pot of it at the table. Overall, we were quite happy. We plan on returning. We just had dinner at 21. Humus,Madrona Burger and Brownie were excellent. Drinks we enjoyed a bottle of Meiomi Chardonnay and Grand Marnier with desert. Dinner,Service by Omid was Excellent 10 plus. Getting out of parking lot pain in the ass. Our ticket was validated but gate would not open said we owned $17.00 more. Called for assistance was told by employee needed to validate with valet. Employee then hung up, called again this time she opened gate. We have been going to 21 for some time and always enjoyed great service ,food and had no problem getting out of parking with server validation. What has changed? There's something to say about restaurants that stick to a menu with only a handful of options for each portion of the meal; it gives the kitchen a chance to master the dishes and I would say what we shared was quite tasty. The crispy shrimp with jalapeño served on top of a spicy aioli and the charred cauliflower with hazelnuts and golden raisins 9n top of green goddess were simple dishes but very delicious. We also shared the fish and chips which they were kind enough to split (no extra charge!) Two things I'd recommend when serving fish and chips: automatically bring malt vinegar and make sure the chips are hot. There's nothing redeeming about waiting for malt vinegar while your fish and chips get cold. The awesome sauce (tarter sauce) was really good...dill was evident and it complemented the fried fish well and it was delicious on the chips (fries) too. There's decent beer and wine options and special thanks to our server who pointed out I had selected a beer in a can...an error I quickly fixed and ordered Absolution lager on tap. We didn't get our servers name, but she was attentive and service was super. The self parking is validated by the restaurant, though on the night we went all the parking gates were up and no tickets were dispensed so we didn't even have to bother with the validation process. There is no happy hour menu, could be because their portions are small, but it would be nice to see some drink discounts during the happy hour. And one nit pick, the chairs at the tables are not comfortable. The arm rests are very low so sitting back and relaxing isn't optimal. The crispy and clean aesthetic of the restaurant is refreshing...which to me always makes the dining experience pleasurable. read more

I travel A LOT. As a rule, I avoid hotel restaurants in the USA. But today I was short of time and desire to search out a breakfast restaurant close by and decided to peruse the 21 Square menu. Intrigued, I gave it a chance. What a wonderful surprise! Skirt Steak and eggs were delicious...nicely plated with refried beans, tortillas and avocado. Friendly, fast service. Way, way exceeded expectations. So, I came back for dinner. Garlic roasted chicken, broccolini, squash and they sub Brussels for the potatoes at my request. Fantastic meal! The Brussels were perfectly cooked. Tons on roasted garlic cloves. Chicken was moist, well seasoned with crispy skin. Again, exceeded expectations. I was definitely pleasantly surprised at this hidden gem in Torrance! Went there on a Saturday for lunch and was even able to bring my dog. There was plenty of patio seating. The restaurant is very chic and modern, and there is a large opening that connects the inside bar/seating area to the outdoor patio - it's a nicely designed space. Our server was super accommodating - even brought out water bowl for my dog:) I ordered the side mac n' cheese which was really yummy. My friend had the avocado toast and loved it. Ordered room service on back-to-back nights. Night one was fine. Ordered a quesadilla that was good and a brownie that was very tasty. Night two, I ordered the BBQ chicken flatbread pizza, a side of fries, and another brownie. The BBQ pizza says on the menu (both the paper room version as well as online) that it is chicken, red onions, BBQ sauce, mozzarella, and cilantro. Aside from not really being flat bread, it showed up covered on all but one slice with mushrooms. The mushrooms may be fine for some, but I am allergic, so I got to throw most of the pizza in the garbage. That left me with an order of fries that were ice cold and unseasoned. I tried to drench the fries in ketchup, but that was fruitless. So essentially I spent $50 for a small slice of pizza, a handful of cold fries, and a brownie. If it were my money and not my work per diem, I would have been furious. Instead, I am just hungry, frustrated, and heading to bed. I know I will be back in the area for work down the road and likely will have to stay here again, but I know that regardless how exhausted I am after a long work day, I will not order room service again. read more

Great spot if you live in the area !! I've been looking for a nice spot that isn't too crowded during Covid times . We are locals but it has been a great bar type place for us this summer since they space folks well and it isn't crazy crowded like the mall restaurants . We've had the same server-Keaton both visits and he is great! Especially considering they have cut their staff due to the economic conditions . Our new go-to until places open up again ! My parents saw this place on t.v. and wanted to try it. We had no place to go for New Year's Eve dinner so we chose to eat here despite the bad reviews of customer service. My dad is a stickler for good service and has boycotted so many restaurants because of bad service. This place did not disappoint. Food: Brussel Sprouts: 4/5 as an appetizer it was the perfect size. I personally could have done without the cheese on top but the sauce they served it with was really good. Madrona Burger: 5/5 the burger was juicy and cooked just the way I like it. It also came with garlic herb potato wedges in a cute little wire fry basket. Fish tacos: 4/5 the fish was moist and they were the perfect size tacos. For my mom it was a little too saucy. I attended an event at the hotel and stopped in at the restaurant for breakfast. No one came to seat me so I had to flag a server who told me to take any seat (they were not busy, less than half full). No menu brought for several minutes so I had to get up and ask, and was given a menu. No one came to take my order for another several minutes, and I ordered. I was asked if I take cream and sugar for my coffee and said yes. The coffee and cream came out first, but the sugar never did. Also, no spoon or other place setting. Several more minutes go by until my order comes out of the kitchen with another server who walks past my table and halfway around the room before finding me. I ask for sugar and a place setting. The server brings sugar but no place setting. I wait a few minutes but she's bussing tables rather than bringing me a place setting. I wave my arm at many people but they ignore me. I get up to ask for a place setting but am brought the bill instead. By the time I get my place setting (no spoon so I have to stir my coffee with my knife) my food and coffee are lukewarm at best. Food was average in quality otherwise, but the toast tasted like wheat i stead of the sourdough I ordered. Servers were friendly but incompetent. On top of all that even though my server noted my discount coupon for the event, she forgot to take it off my bill. I was running late because of the slow service so I just paid up. In fact i did not use my credit card but cash instead having no confidence in getting my card back timely. I've been here MANY times, mostly during summer months. Great vibe. The outdoors sections are my favorite. Hammocks, games, fire pits, blankets, really comfortable. I was on a 4th of July weekend get away with my hubby, and after after packing decided to have a few drinks at the hotel bar downstairs. I had the pleasure of being served by the excellent bartender Johnathan who made our drinks to perfection. Not only did he make the drinks well he delivered exceptional customer service, and was very attentive to our request. Stayed here at the Marriott over the weekend and it was so good! Kinda pricy but really good. One good thing is if you book a room with your American Express platinum card you get free breakfast every day for two. My family and I eat here for breakfast(free) and lunch. *Breakfast: I ordered Julio's burrito with a side of season fruit- It Was a chorizo burrito with avocado, potatoes, and sausage. Side of THE BEST SALSA EVER! Had a kick to it with a bunch of flavor. Wasn't watery at all, like most restaurants. It also came with hash browns. The fruit was sliced melon, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, and raspberries. I drink coffee and water with it. My dad ordered Eggs Benedict with side of bagel and cream cheese-The Eggs Benedict was the classic style with a chorizo mayonnaise type of cream on top of it and came with also hash browns. The bagel was a regular bagel (you have no options) with TWO cream cheeses which I thought was good/ generous, most don't give two. Both plates were very filling! We had to get two to go boxes. The service was so amazing! We had our waiter and if other waiters saw we needed something they would step in and help. It's nice to see a restaurant were everyone helps everyone, you can tell they are really all about the customers, they don't want the customers to wait long for what they want which is great! Our water jug thing they gave us had pulp leftovers In it from I guess previous juice that was in it. A waitress apologized, took it, and got us a new one and our main waiter came and apologized as well. They were so fast and so sweet. Usually I would be mad and maybe even disgusted since I've work in restaurants before and I've seen how dirty dishes can get but I know it's a common mistake and out of their control. Plus they handle the situation so sincerely! Best service ever! I truly enjoy dinning her for breakfast. It was even kinda packed too. *Lunch:We ordered the Clams as an appetizer- They has ginger on top of them with what I believe was garlic. Came with three cut pieces of bread. The clams had so juice as well which tasted Delicious with the bread, we dipped our bread in the sauce after eating the clams. There was about 10 small size clams that came in it. The ginger I wasn't a fan of but it wasn't strong and I didn't ruin it at all. This starter was great I just wished more bread came with it. I think there should have been 6 breads inside of three (3 on each side of plate). I ordered the French Dip-Was bread, meat, and cheese in it. Came with fries and pickled vegetables on the side. It also came with au jug sauce and cream horseradish, but inside of the creamy horseradish sauce I asked for the lemon garlic aioli for my sister since we were sharing everything. It was so delicious! I'm really picky with French dip because I been to places where their meat tastes dirty or old but here was so dang good! And the au hi which I never liked before, I was hooked! I'm just a A1 steak sauce girl but now I like au ju because of this dish. So good!! I also got a side of buffalo sauce to eat with my fries and my sisters burger. My sister got the Madronna Burger (you can donate a $1 to the madronna marsh.) this came with your standard bacon cheese burger but my sister added a fried egg on it for a $1 more. It came with pickled vegetables as well, and an option of fries or onion rings (she chooses fries). What I thought was good too was that they asked how she wanted her burger (she got well done for me since that's all I eat, she like medium) most restaurants don't ask that for burgers. The burger came just a LITTLE pink but that was understandable since the patty was so dang big! I still ate it and it was good! It was hard to eat it because my mouth doesn't open that big lol this is a big burger, you are definitely getting your money's worth! My sister also got a side of ranch for the half of the burger and fries. She drank the Fire Drill drink which was pretty much a spicy margarita. It was really good and spicy! Kinda strong which is great, again you get your money's worth with that, you get to taste the alcohol! Not just juice. It was so good and came with a slice of jalapeño in it.*Dessert: The waiter saw me take photos of my meal and I told him I was doing an yelp review so they gave us a complimentary dessert available during lunch and dinner time. It is called Fruit Mascarpone- Grilled pear and mangos with yummy sweet cream sauce on it. So TASTY! I'm craving it now as I type this. I had read about this place in one of the magazines in one of the offices while waiting for my appointment; decided to try it out last night. It is a bit pricy for the portion sizes and doesn't offer a lot of vegetarian options, which is why I'm holding back one star. Our server Angela was friendly and responsive and offered great suggestions on what we may like. The charred cauliflower is a must try even though the portion size is miniscule. The salsa is pretty good too though I can probably make better guacamole at home. Do leave some space for dessert which should be the bread pudding; that, unlike other menu items, is huge and delicious! Pretty little raised bed garden area with all the essentials for freshly muddled cocktails. Rendezvoused with my team here at 6:30 for pre-dinner cocktails, we were a party of seven and took up residence on the outdoor couches. Service was attentive and cocktails were yummy. So 21 Square is definitely a restaurant that I can see being a hotspot in Torrance. Not only is this food great, but the service and vibe/atmosphere! This place is really nice inside. Feels very modern and upscale. Full bar equipped with several TVs to watch the games. Seating area has individual tables, booths and even a community table with outlets for those of you that are coming to discuss some business. Outdoor seating is even nicer with more tables and even some around the fire pit! Now I was fortunate enough to taste pretty much everything on the menu thanks to their Yelp event a couple months back. I highly recommend the LYB (LOOSEN YOUR BELT) Tater Tots, Fish and Chips, Crab Cakes and Dog on a Board. Aside from those options, everything else is pretty good and I'd go by what you and your party's palate is craving cause you can't really go wrong! They also have a huge selection of cocktails, along with beers. Most of the entrees are more for sharing, so bring a big group, order them all and feast!
