I really wanted to have a special birthday dinner so I chose this old style restaurant to celebrate! It's definitely been here forever! Our waitress is sweet and she's only worked here since last April. The music is so dated and they need to redo the interior. My cioppino was very good like four star and Bf's baseball size swordfish was very juicy. I'd say it was solid overall! If I'm in the area again, I would possibly come back but definitely not for a special occasion like my birthday

Located right across the beach Plenty of public parking available and they have valet parking too Lively bar scene where many dine right at the bar. Piano music abounds. It's a peppy atmosphere Food is well done and presented nicely. Classic steak house atmosphere Tomato bisque was absolutely delicious. Tossed green salad was fresh and not overly dressed. Their meats were so tender-- had their filet -- cooked perfectly Desserts are classic like chocolate cake and sorbet. The sorbet had plenty of berries and was so refreshing Service was pretty good since the place was quite crowded

I spent around $1,000 here for what I hoped would be an unforgettable dinner since it was my 21st. We got oysters, caviar, scallops, clam chowder, sea bass, ribeye, lamb, linguine, mashed potatoes, lobster mac n cheese, and grilled asparagus. The experience had its moments, but overall, it just wasn't worth it. They actually charged extra just to split two entrees in half. Like who does that and why didn't they say that, lots of hidden fees wtf..? It was not mentioned beforehand. The dry-aged ribeye lacked salt and any real presentation, I paid $100 for that and there honestly no real difference. No real deep flavor of that typical dry age and tbh I do better plating at home. The rack of lamb was decent but needed more sauce since the seasoning didn't stand out. The linguine was spicy (in a good way), mashed potatoes were solid, but the lobster mac and cheese was disappointing. There was this overwhelming cheese flavor with no real depth or cheese pull, Legit just tasted like eating goat cheese. The $24 grilled asparagus wasn't worth it either; it was literally just grilled asparagus, nothing special and they charged that much? The biggest letdown was the caviar. They listed it as golden osetra but what we got was just basic sturgeon caviar, the lid didn't say "golden osetra" anywhere. It cost around $300, which was ridiculous for what it was. Everything on the menu is "market value," so prices aren't clear until you get the bill. NOT WORTH. On the positive side, the sunset view was beautiful and the service was genuinely great; attentive, refilled drinks often, and checked in at the right times. But food-wise, it was mid. Nothing special and realllllly lacked seasoning which is sad to say. For the price, the quality and transparency just didn't match up at all, I will not be coming here again not worth it.

The ambiance was 5 stars. The service was impeccable. Food was fantastic and the wine selection is chefs kiss! All around beautiful place for a special occasion or date night. We enjoyed the Austin Hope for our bottle of wine. Desserts are amazing too!

Lovely birthday dinner here. Made a reservation for 5pm but showed up at 4pm, was able to sit early. Was greeted warmly upon entering. Had a nice view of the pier. Service was very friendly and professional from host to waiter. Ordered 2x of the 14 oz NY. White truffle Mac & cheese + mashed potatoes. Along with a glass of Daou for $189. Came with a complimentary birthday brownie as well. Food was delicious, steak was cooked to perfection. Ambiance was exactly what I wanted, classy and by the beach. Parking is a nightmare unless you valet. I was fortunate enough to find a spot. It cost $8.50 for 2 hours, but is free after 6pm.

I've been to this area of Newport a handful of times and never realized this place was literally right next door to Seaside Bakery. my boyfriend made reservations to celebrate our anniversary at 21 Oceanfront, and included a request for sunset view. I'm happy that they were able to accommodate as we got a gorgeous view during golden hour + sunset during while eating our appetizer! Complimentary bread & butter: standard, but yummy! didn't eat too much of it so to save space for the main dishes Appetizer - Calamari 11/10: some of the best calamari I've had!! it was so soft; you could tell it was fresh unlike some establishments where it can be a little bit too chewy sometimes. The aioli and marinara sauces that is included pairs perfectly with it. Sides - Au gratin potatoes & Pancetta Brussels sprouts 8/10: delicious! The potatoes were our favorite. wish the Brussels sprouts had a little more char/crunch to them and the pancetta kinda overpowered the sauce imo but still a good pairing with our steaks. Entrée - Steaks 8/10: we both ordered the 16oz ribeye; solid steaks! they were cooked perfectly to our requested preferences. got too full from the rest of our meal so we took the rest to go. service was good; I appreciate that our orders were timed very well (so as to not be overwhelmed with food all at once and we never waited too long for the next course). they even gave us a complimentary anniversary dessert! If I had to give one grievance is that parking can be extremely tough. Be prepared to pay for valet. Nonetheless, a great experience & would return in the future for a special occasion (:

So we've been to this place. Multiple times. It is a beautiful steakhouse with amazing Decor. The ambience is very cool and sexy. The Service and the Wait staff are on Point. The Sommerlei helped us out with a bottle of wine. The appetizer were good. The food was delicious. This is marvel place where you go to absorb the vibes. It is on the expensive side, but it is worth going. If you're in New Port. Don't expect life-changing Food, but you will get exceptional service and you will have a good time. Everyone is very attentive. The unfortunate part of the evening is that their oven was down and we could not get soufflé . Short of that we had a wonderful night.

Ended our weeklong vacation at this wonderful restaurant on the water. Walked in to hear an amazing talented musician playing all your favorite hits on the guitar and was treated to a great cocktail in the bar area. Service was top-notch and then along came the food. Crab Cake followed by a Ribeye that was to die for. The view was beautiful.... Cheers to a job well done! We'll be back...SOON.

Wha a cute spot. Arrived at 6pm when paid parking my is free. Corner restaurant and door front/opening is so cute for the holidays. We started at the bar and moved to a private spot for 12 of us. It was perfect. Good and service were superb. We never had to wave anyone over because they were so attentive for our drinks and food. We had multiple bottles of wine that they brought, we also ordered different drinks from the bar and we ordered espresso at the end of the night. They did not skip a beat. Would definitely come back.

Great location on the Balboa Peninsula for sunsets and ocean views. The food was very good and the service was excellent. I had the cioppino which was very flavorful and teaming with seafood. Maybe more shellfish would have been nice, but the ample amounts of fish was fresh and not overcooked. The broth was light yet tasty and served with garlic cheese toast. I also had the clam chowder which was very good. Texture was just right and had large chucks of clams. The scallop appetizer was delicious, but it only came with 2 per serving. Overall 21 Oceanfront is a great dinner choice. It's on the boardwalk so you can take a stroll. It's also next door to Seaside Donuts, a popular donut shop, if you're still hungry.

Went to 21 Oceanfront to celebrate my birthday with my family, and we had such a wonderful experience. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the holidays, giving it a cute and festive vibe. The food was excellent. We loved both the clam chowder and the lobster bisque, and our steaks were so good we practically demolished them. But the star of the night was the Grand Marnier soufflé, absolutely wow. It was the perfect ending and sent us straight into a happy food coma. Being right by the beach and in such a charming area made it even better. Highly recommend this restaurant.

This review can get long very easily... I hope I can give this place the credit it deserves. To start... I found this place just simply by doing A LOT of research. My "husband" & I came in to visit, we instantly fell in love & knew we had to have our wedding reception here. We reserved the whole alley west room, lounge & bar area with patio included. The place alone is a true gem & the views are beautiful! Colleen She is the event coordinator ... she helped execute my vision, & always responded quickly. She kept in contact throughout the weeks to make sure she would have everything in order for us. She has such a sweet and happy personality. Nothing you ask is too small to her, she will do what she has to do to achieve whatever it is you're asking for. I can't thank her enough. Colleen we appreciate you! The day of... walking in I was just in awe of the whole set up! The views this place has are amazing. Specifically during sunset! The food is top tier. I had family members calling me the next day to say how amazing everything was. Shoutout to the chef(s) & whole kitchen staff. The drinks/cocktails were too good lol. Thank you to the bartenders for always catching when a glass was empty & being ready with another! The team directly helping us... Steve, Andrea, & Colyn Thank you so much for being so attentive to my family. We are a wild group, (especially by the end of the night) but you somehow managed to take care of everyone. All 3 of them were always checking to make sure we had everything we needed. When I received the phone calls from family, your names were included & specified. This place banks hard on its beachfront location--and it shows in the pricing. If you have kids, expect to be seated upstairs away from the ambiance (and the view), though to be fair, the booth was comfortable. The food itself? Just okay. Everything came out scorching hot, but flavor-wise, it was average at best. The lobster tail was good, but at $135 a pop, I'm not sure it's worth it. The $30 shrimp cocktail only included 3 shrimp--when I passed on it, I felt slightly judged, as if declining overpriced seafood made me "cheap." On the positive side, the staff was friendly and professional. The potatoes were decent, and they offered a complimentary brownie for my wife's birthday, which was appreciated--but like everything else (salmon, bread, etc.), it was just...fine. For a better experience and better food, I'd recommend Buona Forchetta instead--higher quality at half the price. read more

Probably the most beautiful restaurants I've eaten at. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. I'm always weary about nicer restaurants because a lot of the time they care more about presentation than taste, but I think 21 Oceanfront has the perfect balance. Our server Steven was attentive, wonderful, and kind. My husband and I agreed we felt so relaxed and comfortable there. It wasn't too loud, it was romantic, and service was excellent. My husband got the roast beef and we would 100% recommend. We got two sides. The extra crispy Brussel sprouts were to die for, and the mashed potatoes were perfect. I got the lobster bisque and it was also a 10/10 it was buttery, rich, yet it wasn't super heavy. I was very happy with my order. We ended the night with a Grand Marnier soufflé. My husband had briefly mentioned we were celebrating my birthday and when the soufflé came out Steven made sure it had a Happy Birthday chocolate on it and added a sweet little candle to the whipped cream. I was not expecting anything and it was very lovely. read more

Stumbled upon this while in the area looking for dinner. The indoor decor for the holidays was very well done, and reminded me of a place you'd find in New York. Everything including the sides were pretty pricy, so expect that before going in. The French onion soup bowl was very good, but seemed a little small for being a bowl. The crab cake appetizer had great flavor. For cocktails, we ordered the Lavender Lemon Drop and the Cucumber martini, both we loved. read more

Bartender was dope and they have an amazing liquor selection. Ambiance and view of the ocean was amazing. Very elegant inside I felt under dressed lol. . Prawn cocktail was good not great maybe just overwhelming size they were huge in their defense. I'll go back again when I have more time to chill and indulge a little more. I'm a local and had always wanted to try this beautiful place and it did NOT disappoint! The view from our window table was impeccable. We had the grilled salmon (OMG!!), scallops (perfection), au gratin potatoes, crème brûlée, wine and martini...and expressos. Kind, attentive service in a lovely intimate setting. Highly recommend for special occasions as this is a very pricey place (but you can literally taste the quality). Also- in the peak months, plan ahead for parking because it's a nightmare (yes they offer valet but good luck getting to it)...will be back! read more

From the telephone call to add a 4th guest last minute to the valet giving us our keys to go home....21 Oceanfront ROCKS! I have eaten at many seafood & steak resturants throughout Southern California and 21 Oceanfront is know on our list of go to places for excellent food, great service and the ambiance of a true seafood and steak house. Though I am originally from Newport Beach, I have never eaten here. I started with an old-fasioned (with Woodford Reserve)...without specifying, they said they use Makers Mark. Bartender made it with a maraschino cherry (they do have luxardo cherries). I started with a cup of the Lobster Bisque; it was good but not great (6/10); the plus for this is that it is a good portion for a cup. For my entree, I ordered the Prime Ribeye, cooked medium rare and Pittsburgh style; it was cooked medium rare, but the Pittsburgh style was okay and the steak was missing some seasoning (i.e. salt, pepper, and possibly butter) (6/10). Also, the side of garlic mashed potatoes were great mashed potatoes but it was missing the garlic! read more

Was excited to get my crab fix here for dinner last night. My husband insisted even though the market price was $250! For 1 pound. Yes you read that right $250! The legs were skimpy and it came with roasted squash and nothing else! Crab cooker has better prices and bigger legs! Captain jacks in sunset I thought was expensive but they're only $150 for 20 oz. of big fat legs! I don't believe we'll be back. My husband got the scallops, lobster Mac and cheese and we got a $74 bottle of wine $450!!!!!! read more

Personal opinion piece here. I feel like I was scammed...$514 for Valentines dinner for 2..... Let me describe my reasoning for feeling like I was scammed. Appetizer 1: Arugula salad with no dressing and unripe strawberries. Appetizer 2: The tuna tartar was ok at best. A fast food poke has better tartar. The quality was good, but the citrus pairing could have been good if they used ripe citrus....the theme of unripe fruit doesn't end here....Entree 1: the medium rare filet I ordered came out medium to medium plus. Entree 2: Scallops didn't have a proper sear. They were cooked ok, but suspiciously soft. The pea risotto was amateur at best. Local mom and pop risottos are superior. The asparagus side had no salt, the potato that came with the filet was maybe the best thing next to the bread and butter. Drinks: Had two old fashions and if you care about the quality this isn't the place, They don't even use real cherries in their drinks. The bowling alley by our house has higher quality drinks and uses real cherries, but plasticmaraschino in a high end restaurant is embarrassing, The bitters were full of sugar and they didn't manage to have the proper ice. Oddly,for $21 per drink, that didn't make me feel scammed in comparison to what's next....The Dessert's were a joke. I literally started laughing at this point because I thought I had to be on video for a prank...I got 3 strawberries with some weird powder that actually sucked flavor from the unripe strawberries And the strawberries were no bigger than the tip of my thumb. It came with chocolate sauce in a paper cup...And a dollop of whip cream. They really set the culinary world on fire with this one...The other dessert used almond extract like a terrible bakery. Not one thing in the meal came from a professional kitchen in my opinion...if a bad meal was reportable to the BBB, this would be the day...my 2 star is generous, but the ambiance was great. Servers were polite, but had no idea what ranch the filet came from and you needed to track down to get help...It was 100% the worst dining experience I've ever had in terms of getting what you paid for. read more

Steps away from the sand, 21 Oceanfront restaurant in Newport Beach has breathtaking views of the Southern California coastline, and is centrally located near the pier. I arrived with a visiting guest for an early dinner on a recent weeknight. As you enter the grandeur of this fine dining establishment, placing one foot in front of the other, you must make your way up the curving stairs to the hostess stand. When we visited, to the right, we found the bar and lounge section was bustling with noise and raucous laughter from patrons, while to the left the quiet dining section remained covered in a sunlit glow with the warmth of the natural toned walls and plush booths crafting a refined presence. Our party was escorted and seated by the window at a small wooden table and chairs facing the sunset, poinsettia flowers and wreaths graced the bannisters, and a beautiful rose flower sat poised in a miniature vase at the table's center. Not only was the view stunning, but the service was impeccable at 21 Oceanfront. As we glanced over the menu, fresh rolls were promptly set center on the table with butter. The sun was luminous, light rays cascading on the waters' edge glistened, as palm trees gently swayed. The melodic tones of jazz music softly played in the background. We finally came to a decision to share the crab cake, the filet mignon and the wedge salad. I indulged in a glass of red wine to accompany these dishes. Everything was scrumptious, and served with care. The fillet mignon was my favorite of the dishes, it was prepared medium well perfectly. The wedge salad was crisp and fresh. The crab cake was flavorful, filling, and great. The staff were absolutely delightful, and treated our party to a warm, delicious brownie for dessert. For a decadent dining experience in Newport Beach, I highly recommend 21 Oceanfront. read more

This place isn't cheap, and you might be forced to pay for $10 valet due to a jam packed parking lot, but the food quality and quantity is better than expected. The median entree price was about fifty something dollars but everything was delicious and the seafood and meat was plentiful and nicely cooked. I thought everything I tried was flavorful, though my steak could have used a tad more salt. The calamari app was lightly crispy, the lamp chops were tender, and the mussels were in a savory sauce. My New York steak was cooked to a near text book medium rare. The other dishes (scallops and Chilean sea bass) had large portions of seafood, and the Cioppino included king crab, large shrimp, scallops, fish, and crawfish. They note that you should give a 30 minute lead time for their soufflés, so I ordered them when we ordered entrees. The soufflés were fluffy and I rate them in this order: 1) vanilla 2)grand marnier 3) chocolate, though others in my party liked the chocolate most. Met up with my husband's band camp friends for dinner. Extensive menu with all kinds of protein to choose from. Parking was not an issue when we arrived around 7:15, but probably because it was raining and a little chilly outside. Service was excellent. There was complimentary freshly-baked rolls with butter to start. For our mains, hubby and I opted for seafood - chilean sea bass for moi and skuna bay salmon for him. While both dishes were decent, mine wasn't the best chilean sea bass I've had as I prefer mine to not be drowning in sauce. Unfortunately, this place is not what it used to be. It has super slow service, very immature management and social media person when I told them about my less than ideal experience on my birthday dinner. I kept getting talked over, gaslit, and spoken to in a very rude and condescending tone. Such a shame since this restaurant has great food and used to have a great reputation. I would be embarassed beyond belief if this is how someone was treated in my establishment, let alone talked to like this on social media. They also blocked me, which is highly unprofessional. This could have and should have been handled with care and with grace, especially if I'm choosing to spend my time and money on a birthday dinner - and yes, even 2 days before Christmas as a solo diner. There are plenty of other places in Orange County to enjoy, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else unless you want to wait an hour for an appetizer and one glass of Cuvee and be spoken to rudely if there is a problem. The Cuvée was good though (luckily I'm a Somm so I knew what to pick) and the Ahi appetizer was also very good, despite the server rolling his eyes and sighing when I asked him what could be easily made that's dairy free (I have an allergy). All in all, not a great experience and very unfortunate and unprofessionally handled. I know it's the holidays and everyone is stressed and understaffed (despite there being open tables), I hope they can learn and grow from this situation and get new management that cares about the guest experience, especially when other workers there tell you "that should've never happened, that's not how we do things here". I wish I could've left with a better experience like I've had before. read more

We attended a private event in the wine cellar and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the filet cooked to perfection and the flow of the meal was spot on. Why 3 stars? The service was terrible! We were there on a Wed, place was not full. We got our drinks but the waiter never returned to take our dinner order! After waiting a while, we finally had to tell a busier to get a waiter. After the dinner, It took a while for our plates to clear. The waiter dropped off a dessert menu, but never came back to take the order. Again, we had to find someone to bring us the bill! We had to run, to get to a nearby concert. I feel the wait staff was inattentive to our table of 4, don't really know why. Maybe they were short-staffed? This is an expensive restaurant with good food. But we will NOT return, due to poor service! Many times at nicer restaurants, a manager will come by and ask how was everything. I really wish that person came by at our dinner. 21 Oceanfront exceeded all my expectations. The ambiance is stunning, the views of the ocean are gorgeous. But most of all... the fine dining experience is amazing. They made my 40th birthday so special and my heart is full. The FOOD! WOW! We had a party of 10 and almost everyone had someone different so were able experience the whole menu. The ambiance is wonderful, old school steakhouse vibes but ocean front views! And the bar is more happening with live music frequently if that is more your scene. The food was also excellent, my scallops were cooked perfectly, seared but juicy and my husband demolished their mussels with bread for the citrusy, buttery sauce. Best of all was the service, wait staff frequently checked on us, waters refilled constantly and when my mom asked about gluten in a dish (she has an allergy), they were able to accommodate her. My wife and I pulled in (valet parking for $10.00 is a must) on a busy Sunday afternoon around 4:30 and were lucky to find two great seats at the corner of the bar. I enjoyed several well-made gin martinis straight up ($16.00) and my wife had a couple of Chalk Hill Chardonnays (16.00). We both agreed that this bar has the greatest view of the ocean in all of Newport Beach. Sipping our drinks while enjoying the sunset is really quite nice. The place is full of regulars and the staff couldn't be more courteous. When we were on our way out the door, I noticed the restaurant was almost full. This place isn't cheap but it certainly has a great feel and is very well run. read more

Had a holiday dinner event here and worked with Lauren and she was fantastic. So efficient, kind, on top of everything and a breath of fresh air. We got seated in the private wine cellar and the attached patio. Service was great and accommodating. Holiday decorations were full fledged all around the restaurant and bar. This amazing gem I had gone to LAST minute has to be THE most favored steakhouse I have ever been to (and that's the amongst some of the bigger steakhouse names in Beverly Hills in comparison.) Now I was scared I was going to regret it. Interior decor had a old vibe look that I can absolutely appreciate and love the 1920's look. Very dimmed , low key , and full view of the beach. Noise level.. there was children and they were soo loud , another behind FaceTiming their whole dinner away. It was the only reason I can't give it the full 5 stars. Service was A1 with Ricky!! He was informative , helpful with any questions, recommendations , and quick on service. Foods ordered was filet mignon, jumbo lobster tail, crab cake , Brussels sprouts , and mash potatoes. Drinks ?! I couldn't resist the cucumber martini. Dessert.. crème Brûlée. Now I frequent many steakhouses and is hands down THE best melt In your mouth steaks. Everything was ABOVE average. Being that it's probably private owned and not a chain like some big 5 star steakhouses , this is attentive to the palates who enjoy fine, quality foods. The location of this restaurant is a little bit surprising it's sandwiched in between the handles, a catchy souvenir shop and random Beach Shops... But here is this gorgeous oceanfront restaurant with dark booths, candles, dark wood and paneled walls. live entertainment, rich, smoky vibes... The food in my opinion was very good. Unfortunately, they did not have East Coast oysters which are our favorite, they carry Baja oysters. So we had the Aji tuna, which was so fresh and delicious.. and because summer is almost over we had the refreshing crisp, pear salad with blue cheese, perfection.... The Chilean Seabass was a very nice portion with a ginger sesame dressing so tasty ... Of course I had to start off the evening with one of their signature. Drinks I had the vaccine with Casamigos tequila a little hint of lime, splash of orange juice and agave. It has a powerful kick and it is so good. They have a wonderful bar scene with live music that faces directly to the ocean . We had a wonderful booth that was sitting up a bit high so we could see the ocean from our table. It was lovely just lovely. Our waiter Ricky was so attentive and charming. We cannot wait to go back ... They have valet parking however, we did not have a problem finding a spot on Saturday night on the street less than a block away from the restaurant . They do have a bit of a dress code, so if you're heading to the beach, please don't show up in Beach close ... it's fancy, but it's not fancy if you know what I mean... read more

Was able to get an early dinner reservation for New Year's Eve at 5pm. Seated immediately as place was not that busy. Staff was accommodating to move me from a table to a booth. Server was attentive. Ordered half dozen oysters to start which was tasty. No kids menu so shared rib eye with my daughter which was cooked ok. A bit bland. The crab cake topper was seasoned well and not too breaded which I like. My bf had the sea bass which was more to my liking. I had an old fashioned where I thought it was too sweet. Stopped in here for an evening cocktail. Came in because they have live music. Dave was the musician. Good voice, very good on guitar. Had calamari, pretty good, not grease soaked. The cucumber martini was good, the Basel Hayden Bourbon was good, the single ice cube was wanting, but it did not detract from the Bourbon. The menu is kind of high end. THANKSGIVING was AMAZING!! MARK was amazing. We ended up having more ppl bc it was thanksgiving and that's what it's all about... so they had to move our table. AT first I was not happy. Mark went above and beyond to accommodate. He did back flips. I wanted to see the ocean and he made it happen w a special access to the rooftop after our meal... and the dinner... WOW ! That small gesture made a big difference, and honestly, that's when the experience started to turn around. From there, things only got better. When our entrées arrived, our waiter Nick realized we had never received our appetizers. Without hesitation, he assured us he would make it right, and he absolutely did. He brought out a selection of cheeses for us to sample, which led to us ordering a caviar bump paired with champagne (highly recommend!). After we finally ordered, the champagne showed up about 20 minutes later. It was served in wine glasses, which feels like basic wine bar knowledge, but apparently not here. When we asked to switch them to champagne glasses, the waiter brought out smaller wine glasses. Not exactly good etiquette for a place that leans so heavily on its bar concept. The whipped ricotta appetizer came out even later, around the 65 minute mark. As an appetizer. It was fine, probably the best thing we had, but "fine" after that kind of wait is not a positive. From there, everything just dragged. It took almost an hour for my mom's meatballs to come out, and when they did, they were raw. Not slightly underdone. Fully pink in the middle. She sent them back and was so turned off she didn't even want to eat anything else. I ordered a salad and specifically asked for light dressing. What I got was the opposite. It was drenched in a thick, heavy dressing that made the whole thing borderline inedible and the lettuce soggy. After our food, I tried to order drip coffee, which they didn't have, so I settled for an Americano. I asked for warm cream, which I've had done at plenty of places, and somehow it came out clotted. If you know anything about coffee, that shouldn't happen. At this point, we had been there for over two and a half hours. For a salad, an appetizer, and four raw meatballs. The server was very nice and doing his best with being busy. BUT, the overall operation felt completely disorganized and untrained. We weren't the only ones either. The couple next to us was also complaining after waiting 40 minutes just to order breakfast items. To make it even better, parking is only comped for 90 minutes. So because of their slow service, we ended up paying for parking on top of overpriced, underwhelming food. What should have been a 45 minute lunch turned into a 2.5 hour ordeal. The bathroom also wasn't clean either time I went, which pretty much sums up the lack of attention to detail across the board. The only slightly redeeming part was the crème brûlée, which was... fine. Not amazing. Just fine. It's a pretty space. I'll give them that. But that's about where the positives end. The food is not good, the timing is unacceptable, and the whole experience feels like Instagram style over quality and substance. Definitely not worth the money, and not somewhere I'd ever go back to.

I was a bit surprised since this is a wine bar. There's also only five food options and nothing really sounded great to me. On their website, they listed charcuterie and a lot more wines, but that was not what was offered. The inside is really cute. But the outside is rundown. The patio looks pretty shabby and that's where the jazz musicians play. There's no heat lamps or really a vibe out there. But the music was fantastic!

It's like a sticky gross residue that never gets completely clean. Many people like to dress nice in the area but honestly I would hate to wear something nice here out of fear it would get dirty. We also required new plates as ours had old food stuck to them. Service was not great. Our waiter was somewhat attentive but not nice - the poor guy seemed miserable like he hated his job and did not want to be there. Despite the restaurant being full, he wouldn't come by often when we actually needed something - he even disappeared towards the end and a new waiter had to help us. Food is delicious. Besides the location, their saving grace. We tried the sandwiches and yummy! Fries were also delicious with the spicy mayo. Love the different options they have, overall. Certainly seafood is one of their specialties, however, we do like their steak and pork. Parking in this area is very difficult. The only option is to park in the Lido garage. The restaurant does validate however, customers sometimes need to ask for it. Our waiter was nice enough to have reminded us about that. Overall a good solid restaurant that usually keeps up their quality and service; and provides a nice dining experience for their customers.

Speaking of beer, you can buy kegs six packs, individual cans of just about any beer you can think of... And even some you did not know existed. Valentine's Day 2011 Took a town car from Irvine to 21 Oceanfront. Got seated by a group of loud mouth German business people who were all there single and doing their best to muck up the atmosphere for those who were here for Valentine's day. Sort of reminded me of the dinner scene in Caddyshack where Al Czverick is being as obnoxious as he can be at the country club and offending the shit out of the 'stuffy' members. I could have cared less about the noise they were making though I thought it was a bit over the top on their end. What was funny was the way too chivalrous guy go up and hassle the waiter about it. I spotted this other guy with his girlie getting their check. The guys eyes got as big as his dinner plate when he opened the book. His chicka wanted to see the bill, but he wouldn't let her. I remember thinking: I hope the poor guy gets some if the bill's that high. What on earth could he have eaten?!? Waiter finally shows up and takes our order. There wasn't much of a selection since it's V day and they want to serve as many as they can so they can milk the hell out of the night. I think there were three choices for the main course, two for the appetizer and two for the desert. My wife had the seafood appetizer and the lobster and filet dinner. I had the beef appetizer and the filet. I noticed the people next to us complain about their sea food dinner after we ordered, but didn't think much about it until the ride home. She seemed to like both her dinner and her appetizer. I was less stoked with mine. First of all, you should NOT have to salt a properly cooked filet. This one required A LOT of it to make it edible. Secondly, it should taste significantly better than a cut of round steak, but it didn't. It was probably THE worst filet I've ever ordered. Black Angus or Sizzler has tasted better than this stuff did. Time for dessert. We both opted for the chocolate cake. What we got was some cold cake. I mean, cold. Might have been one of those frozen Sara Lee cakes. Definitely not home made or gourmet. Bill comes and I had the same EXACT reaction ol' boy had earlier when I opened the book and saw that our total (with 2 glasses of wine) for a dinner for two came out to over $340!!! WTF?!? I can feed our family of 5 for less than that a week! That price for that food is robbery and what's worse is that we needed a reservation to get jacked and everybody else in the place was paying the same exact price. There were 20 people up in our section which means the restaurant brought in a cool $6800 just from our dinners alone not to mention however many other people they shuffled thru there before and after us. Nice racket. The evening was topped off by my wife and I taking a walk out on the pier while waiting for the town car to arrive, maybe like 30 minutes or so which was just enough time to make the ride back to the hotel a nightmare.... On the way home my wife started to feel sick to her stomach. No sooner than she started to feel that way and ask the driver to pull over, all the lobster and shrimp that she ate came back out of her mouth and into my hands since we had no bag and I was trying to minimize damage to the guys car. There goes about $150 I thought to myself and I asked the driver to roll down both windows before I lost the $150 worth of crap I ate too. It took the guy a good 5 minutes to get off the road and to a gas station. I'm surprised I didn't lose it too holding a shit load of barf in my hand and the stench filling the car, but I didn't. That's when I remembered the other people sending back their sea food and why I don't eat sea food: It's too easy to get some bad shit! After spending 20 mintues in the parking lot of a gas station trying to clean up the dudes car, he finally took us back to the hotel where we tried to slip into an elevator by ourselves since we were smelling like straight up yak but some dumb girl stuck her hands in the door as they were closing and was yapping on her phone to her friends. "No don't come down to the lobby, I'm coming up to your room. I can't wait to start drinking! Blah, blah, blah..." The whole time the smell of the yak is starting to permeate the elevator but it's time for us to get off: DING 4th floor. As we were walking down the hallway I hear the last of the girl that slipped into the elevator's conversation "OH MY GOD! THIS ELEVATOR SMELLS LIKE THROW UP!!! UGGG (other gurgling sounds) as the doors close. We got back to the room and cleaned up and I called 21 Oceanfront to inform them what happened and that I was pretty sure the sea food was to blame. Their response: Oh, ok. I'lll tell the manager. Me: How about you let me speak to the manager. Um, he's busy, click. Nice service assholes. Should have called the health department but just wanted to forget about the night altogether. Mental note: Make sure we go to McDonald's for V day next year. read more

Oh my Jesus Lord. this has got to be the biggest piece of dog **** garbage sad excuse for a restaurant on the planet. I came here with a few friends who are major foodies like myself. And none of us have ever seen a restaurant put so little effort into things and charge so much money for it. Every single member of staff was old and had an absolutely rotten attitude. We started with cocktails at the bar, the bartender was an incredibley rude old bald stocky guy that was as slow as a damn worm. sounded like he was from new york or something. Instead of serving us he just stood there talking to other old fogies at the bar while we were sitting there clearly waiting to be served. When we finally didget his attention he was the biggest ****head of all time and seemed like he didnt want anything to do with my friends and i because we were under 50 yrs of age. That was just to start. when we sat down to have dinner, same situation with our server an old european lady who barely spoke english and showed us no courtesy at all. She had seemingly no knowledge of the food that was on the menu, or if she did, she wasnt interested in sharing it with us. Our food was just as dissapointing. The most overpriced and underflavored low quality food any of us had ever been served. We were truly blown away at how this place was even in business, we later spoke to some locals and found out that the place is actually completely dead 7 nights a week...FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. to top off our evening the "manager" came by to check on us...none of us had the heart to tell him that he, his establishment, and his staff were all going to die a lonely death together. this guy is a poor excuse for a business man if this is the type of restaurant he is running. If this guy hired some more youthful vibrant and knowledgeable staff, he might be able to actually push the overpriced garbage hes trying to push. but it doesnt look like anything will be changing in this place any time soon. FOOD: bland, poor quality, rubbery vegetables. SERVICE: negative, brink of death, rude, stuffy DECOR: dont get me started MANAGER: old, arrogant, no clue how to run a business, and didnt seem to care that his staff is treating diners like **** I wouldnt reccomend this place to anyone. please dont make the same mistake my friends and I did. read more

I don't even know where to start, was informed there was no dress code except they dont allow beach attire. my date had a hat was asked to be taken off so he took it off. when seated took a few minutes for our drinks they offered "newports finest tap " or bottled water, we got the tap water because we were planning on getting a few alcoholic beverages. my server checked up on us once, the lady host walked around to every table and checked up on everyone at least twice, she kept walking pass my table and finally when she seen me look at her going up the stairs she walked backwards towards my table and asked how was our meal by that time we had our food boxed didnt even want to order another drink untill we went to another place. I understand your "high end" but dont judge people. we are in our early twenties. our bill 133 and some change, left a $36 dollar tip even though I was upset with the service and how they treated us. im not going to recommend this place or consider on going back. **Review of Mark the Manager** I recently dined at 21 oceanfront and, unfortunately, my experience was marred by the unprofessional and rude behavior of the manager. From the moment I arrived, I sensed an uncomfortable atmosphere, but it wasn't until I had an interaction with the manager that the situation took a turn for the worse. When I asked about a change to our table, the manager's response was dismissive and condescending. Instead of offering a solution or trying to accommodate, they made me feel as though I was inconveniencing them, despite my request being entirely reasonable. They even went as far as saying, "only our regulars get to sit here". When I pointed out the lack of flexibility, their attitude became even more abrasive, ignoring my questions and refusing to engage in any form of professional dialogue. The restaurant may have a great culinary reputation, but the poor leadership undermines the entire experience. A fine dining restaurant thrives not only on excellent food but also on service that makes guests feel welcome and respected. Unfortunately, this manager's behavior was the antithesis of hospitality. We visited 21 Oceanfront to celebrate my mom's birthday with my wife and our two young kids (ages 1 and 3). Up until the end of our meal, everything was great--the service and food were excellent, and we were genuinely enjoying the experience. We ordered a full meal including caviar, lobster bisque, Asian salad, cioppino, a jumbo lobster tail, Skuna Bay salmon, and four drinks, so this was meant to be a special night out. Unfortunately, the evening took a turn when the manager, Mark Lamb, approached our table and told us our 1-year-old was being too loud. To be clear, he wasn't crying or screaming--he was simply laughing and enjoying himself. As parents, it's unreasonable to expect a toddler to be completely silent, especially when they're well-behaved and happy. If this restaurant has an issue with young children, that should be clearly communicated before seating families. Instead, the way this was handled felt unnecessary and ultimately ruined what was supposed to be a special night. We decided to leave immediately and skipped dessert altogether. We just returned from a truly exquisite dining experience at 21 Oceanfront. We didn't have reservations, but asked for an ocean view, and got a great booth overlooking the ocean. The food was impeccable; both my husband and I had the Greek Salad (fresh and loaded with feta and kalamata olives) and Cioppino, which had a savory tomato broth with a lovely selection of fish, lobster tail, shrimp, mussels and calamari. It was accompanied by squares of puffy, hot garlic bread for dipping. Heaven. But even better than the great food was the amazing service. The waiter, Roberto, could not have been more accommodating, informative and pleasant. He was attentive to our every need, as was everyone on the waitstaff team. I felt like a Queen. And...just to top it all off....at the end of this wonderful meal, Roberto asked if we would like dessert, or if we had a special occasion. I said no, because my birthday was last week (on Saturday). Well, a few minutes later, Roberto brought to our table a hunk of delicious chocolate cake with a candle on top, and two flutes of champagne! Okay Yelpers, still out here in Newport Beach, CA and just got back from a wonderful dinner/happy hour at a place called 21 Oceanfront. We're staying at a little hotel about a block away and they recommended it for a great happy hour. They were right! 21 Oceanfront is a classy establishment with a friendly staff. Once inside it looks nothing like a beach front restaurant. It has dark woods, marble bar, shiny brass accents, and old world style draperies. The ambiance is elegant to say the least. The food is amazing, although pricy. Their happy hour has some select items for half price which makes it somewhat more palatable. The drinks are great; my wife had an espresso martini that she loved. The lobster bisque is great and the prawns are amazing! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants an amazing view of the ocean, great food, relaxed atmosphere, and can afford to pay for all that. It can seem stuffy at times but the bartenders are great for chit chat and the view from the bar is uncompromising. It's worth a date night or a vacation splurge. read more

Do not eat at this establishment. We arrived at the restaurant for a party of 6 and one person was pulled from the group by a doorman/security person whom implied that that person was intoxicated and could not enter the establishment. This was a complete fabrication and ended up being a clear case of racial discrimination due to the fact that my son is a Korean American. The doorman whom is contracted as a third party from the restaurant without any factual evidence or proof of intoxication clearly violated our rights and we are possibly seeking legal counsel to sue this establishment for racial discrimination. Restaurants do have the right to refuse service to anyone and since they felt that our $1000 was no good at that establishment, we took our business elsewhere and enjoyed a fantastic dinner at La Cave just down the street where we were treated with dignity and respect. You can go in dressy if you like or business casual, it's the OC now! Such a classic place near the pier, one of the few old school places left (as in upscale service).... I like dining early, as always, and this night did not dissapoint. Though the busser took a while to bring us water, the server gave us enough time to peruse the menu and take our drink orders. Me and my date enjoyed the calamari and ahi poki. I am always amazed how restaurants each differ in the presentation of calamaris. For entree, how many places still serve Steak Diane??? It was a treat to enjoy this and I savored every bite. My date ordered the mixed grill, being a guy's guy and undecided, he wanted it all.... next time I'm gonna go for the abalone and renew my adventurous spirit! read more

we flew from tx to ca for our anniversary and decided to have our dinner at 21 oceanfront . Bad idea and boy where do I start. We did the reservation over the phone and I asked for a private booth which they confirmed to be available, upon arrival we found out that all private booths were taken and we end up sitting at a regular table When it came to the food , my wife order mussels for appetizers and I ordered steak for my main course , GUESS WHAT ; the waitress came back after ten min to tell us that they were out of mussels I took a deep breath and ordered calamari instead , another ten minutes later the waitress came back to tell us there was something with the oven and it's gonna take extra 30 before my steak is ready. My worst restaurant experience ever it totally ruined our anniversary , the food was ok but god are they organized!!! read more

I visited here the other night with my B/F for a surprise dinner date and he took us here for the evening and I was so excited after being told such great things about this place. We arrived about 9:30 at night, which really is not the best time to visit any restaurant, especially when they are do to close at 11, and the chicken closes at 10PM. The service was slow and you could tell they were more interested in seating us getting or order and rushing us thru the door. People were rushing around trying to get the place up to par for the next day clearly. However the food was great and plate appearance was fantastic. I had the salmon, and my B/F had some el diavolo fettuccine which looked very good, a bit too spicy for my tastes. Over all the food was amazing even though the service was less than spectacular for the price. read more

The service was adequate, but it was incredibly slow. When we got our food, it was "ok". The lobster tail wasn't fully cooked. It was raw in the middle. The lobster mac & cheese wasn't good at all. The asparagus veggie was ok. My rib eye steak was cooked great being "medium", but the quality of the steak was NOT great. I ordered oysters "Rockefeller" style, but they came regular. I didn't say anything due to act like a difficult guest. But then with a bill coming over $1,000.00 dollars, the meal was definitely NOT worth the price. My 6 guest dining with me didn't enjoy their meal either, Thankfully we enjoyed each other's company in the ambiance. read more

Hey this review goes to the man in front Tony who was really hospitable and helpful in helping us navigate Newport Beach when we were craving beach food. Now I really don't know if it's really a great restaurant by the inside yet; however, Tony really cares about people and if he was the example of how that restaurant is run, I'm pretty sure we can expect a great fine dining experience on the beach with a lot of great people who will take care of us. I will come back and update my review about the food in the future but for now, 5 stars for the great interaction from the gentleman in front! Thanks a lot! read more

My favorite happy hour & dinner spot. I like to watch games & sit in the lounge... soak in the ocean view, cool music, and 1/2 price food & drinks. The food is amazing. Chilean Sea Bass or Kobe Beef are what I usually order. I take advantage of the 25% off Sunset Special. It's a fun crowd, and the bartenders and cocktail servers are the coolest. I host my company's annual dinner in 21 Oceanfront's wine cellar. The restaurant has a Sprinter, and they provide round trip transportation for bigger parties. I attended two wine dinners, and I'm already look forward to the next. read more

The service was impeccable--attentive, friendly, and never rushed. The espresso martinis were smooth and delicious, and every dish we ordered was outstanding. The Steak Oscar-style is a must--perfectly cooked and topped with a rich, creamy lobster topping. The Oysters Rockefeller were equally incredible. Located on the second floor right on the beach, it's the perfect spot for dinner while watching the sunset. We stayed for hours, enjoying the view, and never felt rushed. One of our favorite spots on the peninsula! Great if you want more of an upscale option for a date night on the peninsula. Especially on Fridays when they have live music at the bar! They have the best mussels in all of Newport IMO. I don't know where they source them from, but they're huge and always cooked to perfection. We were also particularly impressed with the service from our busser, James, last night who was very knowledgeable, knew the menu very well, and was very attentive when our server couldn't be found. Atmosphere is old school and service is amazingly old school with a whole team that works together on your table. We loved our meal and got excellent service! Our waiter was nice enough to offer us a complimentary piece of their choco cake for July 4. Beautiful spot on the water with a gorgeous view and food will not disappoint. It is pricey but not over the top and certainly good value when you think about the quality of the food and service. read more
