Food combinations are eccentric. I have yet to have a bad meal here. The shrimp and grits are to die for. The lamb chops are out standing! Now the reason they did not get all 5 stars..... the drinks are the highest prices around. I enjoy and expect a $65 meal for 2 and expect another $35 in drinks. But 4 mixed drinks =$50. A crown and coke in a rocks glass is $12. Yikes! read more

Cool place, sort of one of those places you just have to know about. Apparently, word has gotten around because the place was busy when we were there. This place is in a downtown basement. All there is at street level is a sign on Grand River and then the entrance at the back of the building. Maybe the coolest place in Howell. read more

Four of us had dinner there last night and everything was delicious. Some had pasta, lamb burgers and pork shank and all was perfect. The decor has a cool speak easy type atmosphere and the service is outstanding, with even the owner serving us and later asking our opinions on the food. We've been there before and is now the "cool place" we take our guests. read more

Has a very nice speakeasy feel to it. The outside patio is the best in town and perfect for sipping wine with friends during the summer. The prices are not bad and the food is good. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because they have strange hours. The staff was rude and slow, and the table we sat at wasn't cleaned off and the bathroom was gross. I will not be returning.

Holy cow this place is frustrating. One visit is great and the next is horrible. The biggest issue now seems to be that they have become pretty busy and can't keep up with the pace. We stopped in a few weeks ago, sat outside on the patio and waited. . and waited. . . and waited until we finally left and walked over to Diamonds. A couple at another table were also getting a bit frustrated with the lack of service. Last week we stopped in on a Thursday night and took a seat in the back room. The place was busy and the staff was obviously having trouble keeping up with the pace. Even though people were searching and waiting for tables, several tables sat empty and un-bussed for a long time. Our waitress was quick to stop by and take our drink order but couldn't find any menus to bring us. Drinks took forever to arrive and it just went on from there. Meanwhile we were treated to one of the staff (big guy with glasses) banging through the kitchen doors in a fit and startling several people in the process. Very unprofessional and unpleasant. For crying out loud, hire more people and train them to deal with crunch times without throwing hissy fits. read more

Absolutely wonderful! This is the fifth time we have been here and I have to say - just as good as the first time. Their food is always consistent.....presentation, flavor, choices..... all wonderful. Drinks are really great. Service is top notch as well. We have taken other people here who have loved it as well. My husband had the chicken piccata and said it was wonderful. I had the spinach Alfredo with shrimp - terrific! Didn't have dessert due to the "food baby" we both had . I would recommend this place for the food, the service, and the ambiance! read more

I've been to this place twice. Both experiences were great! Good wine list. The food menu is really unique and has many varieties of offerings. Being gluten free the wait staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and there's lots on the menu to choose from. Please think about adding some sort of deglutenized beer. Becker Brewery in Brighton has great deglutenized beer offerings. The space is so very unique. It has a great patio, the tables are very eclectic, and the space is beautifully done. Tried this for the first time tonight and we all enjoyed our meals + drinks. Sat on the patio with my husband, daughter, son-in-law and grand daughter (6 mo). Rain was threatening but they have very large umbrellas over the tables and we were glad we opted to remain outside (only ended up sprinkling!). Our waitress (Kate?) was very upbeat and enthusiastic, but erred when she told us that there were 4 lamb lollies per plate (only 2 but I enjoyed every bite!). Not overly generous portions but everything was delicious! We will definitely be back! read more

Just seen your reply to my original review.I specifically asked for no Seeds and your cook messed up. I had a detailed conversation with the waitress and she agreed no seeds was the way to go. You messed up! The waitress also came to my table and said it was ridiculous that the sandwich wasn't taken off of my bill. Customer service is number one in any restaurant. We were polite about the whole situation but because of the lack of responsibility on your part you have lost a customer. Your review went from four stars to one from us. Bravo sir! Bravo! read more

We had a 90th birthday party with nearly 70 people in attendance and the entire staff from the owner to the clean-up crew bent over backwards to make sure everyone enjoyed the event. The food was great and everyone enjoyed unique atmosphere. read more

What an awesome restaurant with a fun atmosphere! The entrance is around back from Main St, and you have to go down in the basement to enter. It feels like you are walking back into the Prohibition era with the exposed brick, antique-esque furniture and light fixtures, and the upbeat, jazzy music. On top of the fun, eclectic atmosphere, you'll get great food at a decent price. My husband and I ordered the bruschetta appetizer, and we both got the burgers for our entrees. Both delicious! Food and drinks are okay. Service was fine. My concern is the exits. The exits consist of two fairly long and slightly narrow staircases to the outside and a small elevator. They are all on the same wall and there are no windows. It would be rough going if a fire or shooting started. Make sure you are comfortable with this before ordering! read more

Wow, what a great, unique place! You do enter from the Alley and pass by a darling grass courtyard. Down some steps and into an amazing room. One side is original stone wall, the other is some old brick. Very comfortable. The menu is not huge, but I would rather see fewer items done really well. I am tired of restaurants offering everything but none done well. We had the deviled eggs with bacon...YUM and only $3. I then had the macaroni and cheese, which was topped with grape tomatoes and bacon. It too was delicious and only $6. We also had a pizza that the waiter recommended and it was delicious. I really wanted to give them a higher mark. We had been there several times and sat at the bar for drinks. We went the other day to meet friends for drinks and dinner and sat at a table. The service was mediocre. It took a very long time for 2 martinis, a mixed drink, and a 3oz pour of bourbon. We asked specifically about the Mac and cheese and whether or not there was bacon in it and we were told no. We explained that we are vegetarian. The Mac and cheese came out with bacon. They did fix that by remaking it without bacon. The food was ok - it wasn't great, it wasn't awful. The pasta was a perfect al dente but was overly sauced IMO. We ordered a second round of drinks after dinner - a filthy dirty martini, a dry martini, and another pour of bourbon. Again, it took a long time and when the two martinis came out, the dry "martini" was in a double old fashioned glass with an olive tossed haphazardly in. They poured a shot of vodka into a glass and threw an olive in for good measure. Our server, and apparently the bartender, didn't understand what a dry martini was. The bourbon pour took 15 minutes and was watered down when it came because the server forgot it and it sat on the counter. A salad was ordered that never came out. The experience was a disappointment. We'd had nice experiences at the bar for drinks and apparently that's the way to go, because the overall experience when food was ordered and we were not at the bar was not good. read more

My wife and I have been here several times and absolutely love it. The atmosphere is the best in the area, the craft cocktails are well made and delicious, and the beer/wine list are on point. Our favorite place to have a drink and an appetizer in the area. The owner, manager, and wait staff are all wonderful and friendly. The only negative thing that I could say is that I wish they would reopen on Sunday... WE MISS THE BLOODY MARY BAR!!! read more

poor service. i accidentally spilled a beer that i had taken one sip from and they charged me for a replacement without mentioning they would. when i asked to chat with manager, the manager came over and basically just shrugged. also my wife said the women's bathroom ran out of toilet paper. if i was the owner i would tell managers and waitstaff to use discretion instead of some ridiculous "policy." it wasnt like i only bought beer. our bill was just shy of $70. lots of other options in brighton and howell where they understand the value of good service. wont be coming back here. read more

beware of the overcharging bartender! maybe in bad mood because we were mainly having drinks and not eating enough- don't know but seemed blatant attempt to pad bill. 2 drinks- exactly the same ones we had from same women 2 weeks prior at $8 were $14 & $16.50! included were couple upcharges she was tongue tied to explain & couldn't. other 2 drinks averaged $14 each. 4 drinks, 1 $5 appetizer, $11 entree came to whooping $75! shame won't be back cause had nice conversation w/ owner but he will lose business if he lets employees run customers off read more
