We were off to Edgartown during our first full day here on the Vineyard. We walked around in the morning and ventured to the Edgartown Lighthouse. By noon we were ready to grab a bite to eat before heading back to our hotel. So, like any visitor in a new town I took to Yelp and found 19 Raw! We were a few minutes early and had to wait a few minutes before they opened. When they did we grabbed a seat indoors and were greeted right away. We took off ordering a couple glasses of white wine to go with our order of oysters. We went with a selection of a dozen oysters and each one was fresh and tasted delicious. I love their champagne mignonette, cocktail sauce, and a spicier sauce for dressing our oysters with! Next, we ordered a few shareable plates that included the hummus for our toddler (very delicious - he loved it!), their filet mignon tartare, and the salmon belly crudo. The tartare is absolutely divine! I love that they served it already dressed and on toast, even if it's not the traditional way of presenting it. It had every flavor you're looking for in a tartare and I was so happy we ordered it! The salmon belly was also very good, I mean, we had no problem putting it down. However, I felt that such a great piece of fish like belly shouldn't be bogged down with the vinaigrette that was in the bowl. Perhaps just a little drizzle instead to offer up that acid component? Also, I actually really like that it was diced instead of sliced sashimi style like most crudo. The steak (filet and chateaubriand) was perfect and the sides, especially the dauphinoise potatoes and the carrots, were exceptional. Being picky, the negroni was a little watered down and the unavailability of espresso was disappointing but did not detract. Don't be misled by the name, they have lots of expertly prepared high quality, cooked, seafood dished too... I'm not a fan of raw oysters so I almost skipped going here until i looked at the menu. I'm glad I did. Had dinner at the bar to watch a Celtics game... (lets not focus on that, didn't end well) The bartender couldn't have been nicer, walked me through the menu, pointed out his favorites, and then made great recommendations for wine pairings. The innkeeper where we stayed recommended this place and it is truly a gem. Tuesday night it was closed but we checked on Wednesday and were very pleased that it was open. We did not have any reservation and did not have to wait to be seated. Great atmosphere inside and outside. We shared the creamed spinach. I had the Duck Pot Pie which was amazing. My husband had the 12oz Coulotte steak which was also fantastic with its sauce. It was aged, properly seasoned, and thick. Cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared a cheesecake dish with nuts and chocolate and some strawberries on the side. Wine list and drinks are exceptional here too. Highly recommend this restaurant while staying in Edgartown. Mallory was a great server and very sociable. This is a first come first serve restaurant. There is additional dining in the back - two rooms. We went back for a 2nd dinner and the food was just ok. I had the Mai Tai and Menage a Trois. Thought it would be a hot dish but it was a cold dish that had too much lemon. My husband ordered the scallop bowl which he enjoyed. read more

19 Raw has been one of our go to spots on island since we discovered it at the start of last summer. Unfortunately our recent experience has us wondering if it was just Monday night inconsistency or something bigger. Hoping it was Monday and the A team had the night off. The oysters were great but the meal overall was mediocre at best. The brussel sprouts were more like soggy wilted spinach, and everything was very salty. Service started out attentive but quickly withered with the sprouts. Our server was displeased with his gratuity and told us as much, asking if the meal was not good. When we said that the meal was pretty disappointing he simply walked away. Mondays are tough, we will try again, hopefully not a downward spiral of one of our favorite island go tos. read more

All the cocktails were also great and we tried some of their menu offerings and some classic cocktails. My wife and I stopped by for dinner after gorging on beef and pork the last three days (that popular Brazilian churrascaria, a boujee hot dog place and i went ham on barbecue making a brisket, ribs and sausage.) WE NEEDED SEAFOOD AND VEGGIES! 19 Prime/19 Raw filled the bill perfectly. We started with the cod ceviche. The waitress told us "it has a little kick". Yeah. It does. I'm a hot sauce junkie, so habaneros are nothing to me, but my wife is the total opposite. The first bite was really way too hot for her, but it tastes SO DARNED GOOD that she went in for a second bite, and a third and finished half of it. The homemade chips on the side are fantastic! She got the herb-crusted cod, which was phenomenal. I had the butter-poached lobster tails. I wasn't expecting the corn to be on the cob, and the restaurant seems a little nice to just start chewing it off the cob. The jalapeño creamed corn could indeed use more jalapeño, which we told our waitress. The whole cauliflower with Parmesan was amazing! (We only ate about half of the sides - they're big!) We finished with the turtle cheesecake. Honestly, it was probably the best turtle cheesecake I've had. There were a lot of varied textures and flavors that all worked really nicely together. The Tuna Poke and Salmon Crudo were excellent. And we split the Shrimp and Grits. Perfect for the two of us. And yes they split the dish without is even asking. Best restaurant on the island, this is my third year coming to 19 Raw and the food is always consistent and tasty. The Red Snapper is probably the best I've ever had and the ambiance is great for small and large groups and very accommodating! I also recommend the pan fried prosciutto mozzarella. read more

This was one of my first dining experiences on the vineyard, and it surely did not disappoint. Located in the heart of Edgartown, 19 raw offers a charming cottage facade with ample outdoor space. To start, we ordered an assortment of oysters. All were delicious, but the Honeysuckles, in particular were aptly named as they were sweet and delicious. The entreés really stood out. The sea bass was perfectly cooked with ginger and spices that met for an explosion of flavor. The lobster bolognese with bucatini was absolutely delectable. Every bite had me wishing for more, and the bucatini was fresh and cooked perfectly al-dente. We also tried scallops and tuna crudo, which did not disappoint either. The service needs improvement. The main course came out before the appetizer. My $79 steak was not served as to the requested cook temperature and warm. The asparagus was overly salted. As stated on the website, as the brainchild of experts in the restaurant business through various experiences in the industry on the island, Do better in the product that's put out to your customers. Too often we are forced to choose between a good place to dine and a dog friendly one. 19 Raw was a refreshing discovery with both qualities. Our dog was treated fondly and offered a fresh bowl of water, just like us. We were here twice-oysters are amazing, served very chilled and go down very easy. The lobster roll was tasty with a nice toasted bun, a nice change from the soggy ones we got at other establishments here on the Island. The lobster salad had a decent amount of lobster, but could use some improvement. The watermelon in the salad added a sweet touch, but could have been more pronounced to offset the bitter greens. For the same price. we prefer the lobster roll. The last dish we tried was the charred octopus in fragrant tomato sauce with herbs, smoky bacon and capers. I thought the octopus was perfect, my wife thought it was a bit tough. We both agreed the sauce was amazing, so much so we asked our friendly server Maeve for some bread to wipe the excess sauce. She was more than happy to heat up a fresh warm baguette for us- hint add hot crusty bread to accompany this dish. My friends and I ended up here because we wanted some oysters while at lunch, and this had a great review on yelp. It opened at noon so we walked around the cute neighborhoods and on a beautiful wood path before it opened. Our waitress was so nice and seated us on the patio. I forgot her name, but she was amazing and so sweet. We had delicious drinks, had such a cute table on the patio, ate amazing sriracha fries, and the playlist was SO good we asked what it was. Cod was incredible- melts in your mouth. Scallops baked to perfection, great flavor. Ceviche is a powerhouse with ponzu. The people who left 5 star reviews are clearly used to Applebee's and TGI Friday's as the hot spots in their suburban neighborhoods, however, anyone coming from a decent food city will recognize this restaurant isn't even mediocre, it's just bad. The clam chowder tastes as if someone dumped far too much lemon juice in it, the steak tartare is bland (but also quite citrusy...did they recently discover citrus here?), and the lobster slider is a money grab at getting you to pay for 1/5th of a lobster roll at the price of a full lobster roll (because it includes a dollop of caviar). You certainly have to lower your expectations when it comes to food on the Vineyard, but this restaurant was truly egregious in how low they could sink with respect to food quality. If you're looking for a far better option, I recommend State Road. read more

We really wanted to try some local oysters and came here on the recommendation of the Christopher. No disappointed! We came a little later in the afternoon, around 2p and it was not at all crowded. Menus are via QR codes and all the staff wore their masks appropriately. We ordered half a dozen oysters (the local Martha's vineyard variety- all juicy and briney, which is how we like them!) and the shrimp cocktail (3 large shrimp in cocktail sauce). while eaves dropping on another hotel guests conversation during porch breakfast i heard them mention "19 raw has the best oysters". we had already been to a couple of places in search of great oysters and was left disappointed. everyone either only had the one size fits all oyster selection or didn't have them at all. i immediately texted my partner, who was sitting right next to me but i couldn't let our neighbors know i was nosey, that we are going tomorrow for lunch! got there at 12:30 on a friday (yesterday) and was seated right away (minus the 15 minutes spent looking for parking, but that's edgartown). our waitress was great. her descriptions of flavors and textures and honesty about what not to mix and match was appreciated. i wish i could remember her name. the way she approached food was reminiscent to how sommeliers describe wines. wtf was her name?! the food. oysters were exactly what we were looking for. we had the locals plus the pink moon. the signatures were so good that we booked a tour at the signature farm. the pink moon was a substitute for a local that they were out of, and boy am i sorry to that local oyster, cause the pink moon was heaven. i wanted to order seconds on just those two but we were so stuffed by the end of our meal that i couldn't mussel the six oyster minimum. see what i did there? on order was the salmon belly crudo, clam chowder, and pork belly. the salmon belly crudo was so fresh and just the right temperature (should be more room temp and not ice cold). the ginger was a nice touch and omg the soy sauce is not from the bottle. it can't be! the pepper and onions were perfectly pickled, amazing flavors in this dish. the clam chowder is hearty. the broth is on the thinner side, but doesn't have that thick filling that flour based broths have. they definitely made up for it with meat and potatoes. nice thick cuts of bacon and clam. good for two to share. the pork belly was amazing. three generous cuts perfectly cooked, tender with a crisp skin. the peaches and tomatoes were the perfect compliments, not too spicy at all, a little sweetness. we wanted to try the lobster salad but God bless our server she encouraged us to wait until we finished these "small" bites. shared between the two of us, the oysters and these three plates were a perfect lunch. before i forget. give the bartender some cause the way he said f$*% what you think you know about white sangrias. this is a drank! not your country club sangria full of club soda, baby thissa drank! give that man his flowers and a jigger. read more

We were here with a large party (eight of us) on Sunday evening. They don't take reservations, but we were able to be sat fairly quickly after having some drinks in the bar area (heads up: the white sangria isn't great). The space is a converted house and it's pretty nice inside, setup-wise. Service was so-so for the most part; she was all business without much of a smile and dropped the ball in terms of checking on the table and replenishing drinks. We started with some apps: bibb salad, a couple dozen oysters, and the grilled octopus. The salad was nice and fresh, but it was too lightly dressed (as in, barely any dressing) and the "sriracha pistachios" were just regular pistachios. The oysters--all from MV--were delicious and tasted like they had just come out of the ocean. Our daughter happily put away a few of them. The grilled octopus was a hit all around, especially the delectable sauce it was served in. Dinner was solid. One of us got the sea bass and it was heavenly: the cook was perfect and we loved the unexpected beet relish. The other one ordered the lamb chops to split with the kiddo and requested that they come out medium for her--but what arrived was BARELY rare. Our daughter still merrily ate them, but for $58, you should be grilling to the customer's request. They were very good, for the record. In fact, the whole table was happy with all their cuts of meat since most of the family opted for some sort of steak. We had three sides and the highlight was the grilled cauliflower: truly amazing with a precise char and a ton of flavor. The mac-n-cheese and brussels sprouts were good enough, but if there was pork belly in the pasta or lardons in the veggies, we missed them. We were very generously treated to dinner, which is ultimately why we're landing on four stars instead of a rounded down three. Listen, the meal was good--really good--but it wasn't *THAT* good to justify the price. We probably wouldn't come back of our own accord. Must be good we thought while perusing the menu. We ordered food for the kids. Could we get the Sriracha Fries without Sriracha? Nope, the chef says no changes. Ok, he's an artiste. That's often a good sign. We ordered a bottle of wine and a round of oysters. And waited. And waited. And finished the wine. And waited some more. But it was a beautiful summer evening. And the kids food came. And they were busy. So we ordered some more wine. Ordering was a bit rough. Can the fish come without bread crumbs? Nope, no changes. If Harry and Sally had come here that scene would have been totally different. Is the whole cauliflower good? Oh, it's delicious? Let's try one of those, then. Caesar salad, someone ordered. "Do you want the anchovies on that?" the waitress asked. Excuse me? I thought there were no changes? I guess the chef didn't insist on that one. It took a while and the food came. And it was... meh. Said whole cauliflower was a mushy and bland cauliflower. The Faroe Island salmon was mushy and undercooked (as hip artiste chefs are wont to do) with soggy skin (hip artiste chefs often crisp it up) and no real flavor (something hip artiste chefs like to have). Oysters were fine, they're hard to mess up. Steaks were fine, those too are hard to mess up. But everything else was truck stop diner quality. But for downtown NYC prices. As always, high prices mean high standards. Makes me feel this is just a tourist trap--everybody's from out of town so they cosplay the whole temple-of-gastronomy thing. read more

First time here - we were not disappointed. This is a raw oyster bar but they had a great menu because I don't eat oysters and any type of shell food so they had a really wide variety of appetizers main courses. We came just for an appetizer and had the big salad which was excellent nice and fresh. Also had the hamburger oh my God I just looking at it was just Delightful and then of course, after eating it, it was just superb. I also ordered the Sriracha fries and they were very very good and we had some excellent drinks. I had the espresso martini and I was surprised it was not too sweet. It was wonderful so I got a high from the coffee and a little spirit from the vodka wonderful my other friend had a Paloma, which is made very different as me with gin surprisingly And applesauce, grapefruit, and some other things little soda if you're ever in Edgartown, I would highly recommend this restaurant the weight service was Jess great very knowledgeable about the menu very pleasant made sure that we were taken care of. Ohhh myyyyy goshhhhh do I love this place - it is a must visit and we've never had a bad meal here. I've been dreaming about the shrimp and grits since last summer, and was so happy that it was still on the menu. I have a gluten allergy, and the staff is very knowledgeable and always able to help me navigate with ease. I had some sort of non-alcoholic lemonade that tasted like a popsicle during our last visit, and now it's all that I can think about. Other items that we love are the chowder (GF and incredible), octopus, burrata (no croutons for GF), Caesar (no croutons for GF), and Cod (not GF - but you prob could ask for it to be). read more

They made my martini perfectly (barely dirty and ice cold) and have a nice wine selection by the glass Can I quibble? -they don't offer a bread service, which is a bummer because my charred octopus appetizer came with a delicous sauce I wanted to mop up. - the patio is spacious but it fronts a Municipal bus stop. We started with a caviar bump anchovie salad and salmon belly crudo which were amazing! I had the lamb chop which were cooked perfectly.
