The restaurant is quite busy and can be cramped, but it has a great view because it's right along the water. With how busy it was, I was surprised that the staff were so friendly and attentive. The oysters were amazing. We ordered the fisherman's platter which included onion rings, fries, fried haddock, fried clams, fried shrimp, fried scallops, and coleslaw. Every single item was delicious. I was expecting to not like at least one of them, but they were all so good! The batter was perfect, well seasoned and so crispy. We stopped by Seafood Shanty in Martha's Vineyard on a recommendation from the guy at our bike rental shop -- it's right at the end of the bike route, so it was the perfect lunch break before heading back. The restaurant is in a super cute area with a beautiful view of the beach. We walked in without a reservation and were seated right away, which was a nice surprise. We each decided to get a cocktail to go with our lunch. We got Shan-Fusion Mule, Ocean Berry Booze, and Mudslide. One thing to note: The bees were crazy about these maraschino cherries that comes with some of the drinks. If you are afraid of bees, ask the server for the drinks without the cherry, or remove it immediately and put it far away from you. For appetizer, we had Clam Chowder, a traditional New England chowder with lots of clams, creamy and comforting. For main, we all got lobster roll. They had the cold and warm version, and we got the cold one called Island's Best & Biggest Lobster Roll. And it sure was pretty big and with a mountain of lobster chunk meat! It was really tasty and super satisfying! The $34 price sounds expensive, but I think it was worth the price tag, as it was huge and you get so much lobster. We had a really nice lunch here. Our hotel at Edgartown was right opposite the Seafood Shanty so we stopped by to grab lunch. It was the first day it opened for the season and looked really busy, but we were seated just a couple of minutes after arrival. I'd suggest making a reservation if you can because lots of people stop by for the beautiful view of the water. Ample indoor and outdoor seating, and they had high chairs for infants and toddlers. The food was really fresh and good, but just a little under wow factor in comparison with other restaurants in the area. We had the stuffed quahogs as an appetizer and really enjoyed it, you could taste the cocktail sauce which added a distinct flavor. Also tried the lobster dip and lobster quesadillas, which were also fresh and creamy. There's a kids menu as well. The service was really fast and friendly despite the crowd. Tried the hot and cold lobster rolls, and both were delicious. The cold roll comes with quite a bit more lobster than the warm. caesar salad was a hefty up charge but it was a good portion. Side of fries were also a good portion and crispy. Great views from the rooftop deck, so highly recommend dining there when the weather is nice. Visited a day before it shut down for the season, and was BLOWN away with the plump-est, cheesiest lobster quesadilla this side of the east coast, and DIDNT BREAK THE WALLET! Fried shrimp to dance for and a pretty good (it was over dressed tuna) poke that had amazing sushi rice (seriously, I was nursing a bad stomach upset and wanted some rice... and I was smitten with rice!). My sister, hailing from North Carolina, ordered the lobster quesadilla that simply blew our minds. Unlike the lobster-weak and cheese-deficient quesadilla of Wild Goose Tavern in Chatham, this bad-boy had knuckles, and tail and claws to make a fisherperson and lobster-deprived human dance for lunch. Chunky enough to share (my husband did the honors so that "no lobster was left behind). I don't know if this place has upped their game since 2013 or I have been seafooding my heart across Cape Cod and my expectations have changed... but this place hit it! Excellent spot to have drinks and chat on a deck. The wait is never too long and the drinks are very good. The food - not so much. We started off with the clam chowder. Each person who ordered it ranked it a seven out of 10 or below with the majority being a sex. The clam chowder was way too thin, there was not enough seasoning, even in a lightly seasoned dish, the potatoes and clams were MI. Then again, my son who is sitting across from me and his girlfriend had all clams and potatoes. One of the few tricks in serving clam chowder is to stir it as your scooping. The lobster roll was very priced and had plenty of lobster meat. The problem was the lobster meat was flavorless. It had to have been previously frozen. Also not enough mayonnaise or celery. Then again some people would complain if there was too much mayonnaise or any celery. This is a very specific recipe that New Englanders are very fussy with. This was essentially a dry lobster roll = no mayonnaise no celery. California roll was also a flop according to the two of eight diners in our group who ordered it. There were no complaints about the hamburger or the chicken nuggets. All in all the view was great the food not so much. Hard pass for dinner or lunch. The appetizer menu was lacking. I got the lobster roll, it was fine, not very good but nothing terrible. The fries that came with it were better than the sandwich. Our waiter took our order then disappeared for an hour. We were having a hard time deciding on restaurants in Edgartown, we were happy we went with the Seafood Shanty! It's right on the water with a very nice seating area inside and an upper deck outside. If for no other reason, you should go there for the lobster dip! It was absolutely delicious and a good portion. All the food we ordered was extremely fresh and they had an excellent menu. The shrimp tacos were great, as were all the other dishes we tried. We had great margaritas, our friends had wine, they had a very nice selection of wine as well. Service was great despite a pretty large lunch crowd, and prices were, in my opinion, very reasonable. With the large lobster dip, shrimp tacos and two large margaritas we spent $74.00. This place was pretty nice. We got to go in right away because we wanted to sit in the rooftop deck area. The hostess upstairs gave us great seats. We had shade and an amazing view of the bay and all the boats. The day was incredible, sunny and breezy and it just added to the magic. The service was good. Our food arrived right away. The burger was delicious, it definitely hit the spot. I was feeling the magic of the scenery and the weather so I decided to order a beer. I'm from Miami and I could not recognize anything on the beer menu so I ended up ordering some pale ale and I didn't like it, it tasted a little bitter to me. Lots of chopped clams. We then shared a Fish & Chips. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender and flakey on the inside. Loved the fries too! Zero stars if this was an option. Wow, me and my sister chose to go to this restaurant based on the reviews and sat for over 20 mins waiting for our server on Fri 7/25 around 5:30pm. We flagged two servers to tell them we had been waiting and both apologized yet NO ONE bothered to take even a drink order or acknowledge us. Almost 6 people walked past us and didn't even register no one came over even though we literally told two people no one had been over to greet us. It was a rainy day and the restaurant didn't appear to be busy. Two tables were sat in our section AFTER we were sat - one almost finished their meal and the other was greeted within minutes of sitting down. I have never encountered this at a restaurant. A great spot with a view of the ferry to Chappy and all the boats. Outside seating had some umbrellas, but due to their placement bring a hat to keep the sun off. It was a table for 1 situation and they were able to accommodate me at a nice little table outside. I had the perfect view great for boat and people watching. I decided on the fish and chips. The fish was super fresh and flavorful! The coleslaw was amazing. Ans tm request for extra tartar sauce was granted and I am so glad I did. Total tourist trap. Service was not good, for us at least. When a big group of us walked in at the END OF THEIR HIGH SEASON in October the man who did the seating arrangements constantly complained about having to seat so many at once. To put this in perspective, we were not all together. We were about 1/3 of a bus totaling maybe 15 people who needed to be seated in different increments. For example, there were three couples, maybe one double and 1 or 2 four tops. And we had 2 hrs to kill in bad weather so we told the man to not stress. He seated my SO and I but we waited 15 minutes for menus. The server came and asked what we wanted. " Menu's please" was our reply. So 3 mins later we got them and waited another 15 for her to return. When I ordered the oysters, I was told they were out of them. 10 minutes later she came back and told me that they had them. I thought the price was incredibly expensive, even for a tourist town. I've grown up going all over the Jersey shore( tourists galore!) and I've never seen oysters this expensive. We clocked that there was a different host stand for upstairs, so ended up going there. Amazing view and location. Overlooking Edgartown Harbor, the top deck is where you want to sit. We eat here more than I normally would because it is a great place to bring visitors. I'm not sure how they do it, but it all seems freshly made and the right temperature. Very impressive. As they claim, the lobster rolls have a LOT of lobster on them.
