On a cold, rainy evening we decided to dine in at The Dunes. We started with crispy brussel sprouts. They were finished in cracked black pepper and aioli. I have to say they were the perfect start to an even better meal. I chose the wagyu burger as my main. You can't come to Martha's Vineyard without treating yourself to a burger. This burger was finished with applewood bacon, carmelized onions and BBQ sauce. Fries were the perfect complement. Service was spectacular by Ovidiu. We stayed multiple times at the Winnetu but only tried The Dunes this year. I can truly say that this is among the best restaurants on the island regardless of whether you stay at the hotel or not. Starting with the quality of the ingredients, to how it's prepared and plated, the chef is amazing. And then, there's the service - extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. They have great vegan options and many of their dishes can be customized to your dietary needs and preferences. read more

The plating of the food was beautiful! The food looked better than it tasted, but was still pleasing to my taste buds. The tacos were so cute, but quite the mouthful. It tasted like a yummy mush, but it has hard to savor all the ingredients. The clam chowder was SUPERB, and the bacon bits packed quite the punch. Additionally, the meat in the pork buns was so juicy, and the bun didn't get spicy :) I would've liked a few more vegetable filling in it though. However, the burger was extremely dry and inedible without ketchup. Finally, only a few aspects of the desert were pleasurable. SOMETHING SCARY HAPPENED THOUGH! I found a big piece of sharp plastic in my taco, but luckily I didn't bite down hard, so I was unharmed. We told the servers and the handled the situation professionally with humility. They comped some of our dinner, and gave us free dessert. Overall the servers went above and beyond to ensure our comfort was kept through the entire time. Very timely, friendly, and understanding. The ambiance was lovely. There was a beautiful view overlooking the park from the outdoor seating perspective. All of the decor, utensils, and menus were fashionably cohesive as well. This place was very hard to get into due to the many private events they host and the size of their dining room not being too large. We had dinner there once and lunch twice, so this is a combined review of those three visits. The headline was average service (friendly but slow and not real attentive), noticeably slow delivery from the bar and kitchen, and pretty average food. Our expectations for the restaurant at the Winnetu were much higher than what we experienced. Tried the smoked fish appetizer at lunch and did not enjoy it (weird taste and kind of fishy smell vs. smoked fish aroma). The grilled avocado was ok, but we would have preferred it just be fresh (accompanying tortilla chips seemed stale). Lunch entrees we had included the Lobster Roll (didn't taste fresh and was liquidy vs. typical cold Lobster salad in a roll we had at other establishments), the Wagyu burger (not near as good as Wagyu burgers I have had elsewhere), the BLT with Turkey (don't add the optional turkey as it is just a slice of pressed turkey as Oscar Meyer would sell), and the Jasmine (their take on a Reuben), which was very tasty, but also too salty. Dinner was definitely better than lunch, but of course we had different items. I'm not a Paella expert, but I thought the Paella was very good with the exception of the shrimp not being cooked quite enough. My wife had clams (with pasta and a poached egg on top). The clams were delicious, but she didn't care for the pasta aspect. We did enjoy the chocolate chip cookies with milk for dessert (but again a long wait and barely even warm when they arrived). We were there in early June and I bet it is better during the prime season. I am sure they are understaffed still due to the pandemic. read more

This place is a gem. The food, view, service, and facilities blew us away. We'll be talking about the zucchini blossoms for a long time. The food was up there with some of the landmark restaurants we love in Portland, Maine or Woodstock, Vermont. The staff was outstanding, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable given the quality and setting. We're looking forward to coming back. Tip: Get there an hour or two before your reservation and enjoy the really beautiful grounds or a walk to the beach. read more

My family had a special vacation at Martha's Vinyard. At our last evening we had dinner at an outside cabana which we reserved. The ambiance was gorgeous. We sat near the pool, and views of the resort. Our waiter wore a mask, and his picture plus name on the badge on his shirt. Our drinks. bread and appetizers came quickly but our dinner orders for the 5 of us took over an hour. As sppetizers we had the beet salad and the tomato salad. All were tasty. Our dinners: 2 salmon filets, 1 swordfish. 1 tuna steak, and 1 filet of beef with French fries. The fish entrees came with mixed veges. Swordfish excellent, salmon good but sauce very spicy and tuna difficult to chew , it had to be returned for a bit more cooking . The filet of beef excellent. Dessert, one chocolate cake for the grandchild who loved it. Food plated nicely, came out hot, and menu pricey. The resort was beautiful and we would probably return for a special occasion. My housemates and I came to The Dunes for dinner two weeks ago. Beautifully decorated space..very elegant. We got our table right away. Our server was a lovely woman..whose name I cannot remember at this moment. But she was charming and friendly and interacted well with our party of 7. We all ordered different dishes. I ordered the wagyu burger as I have never had wagyu before. One of my companions ordered the scallops with the pork belly. However, she did not want the pork bellies. So our server suggested that she would give her an extra scallop. When our plates came out, my companion realized that she hadn't gotten her extra scallop. Our server went to the kitchen to see what happened. Unfortunately the kitchen had run out of scallops. So my companion's meal was comped! This is how you run a top shelf restaurant! The chef even came out himself to apologize. Because of this impeccable service, we will most definitely be going back to The Dunes when we return to MV next Summer. read more

I went here for dinner with two friends on a Saturday night of the Memorial Day weekend. We had a reservation for 6pm and were seated promptly. The website indicated that they have 2-4-1 apps between 5-7 pm however when we asked our server she didn't know and so she asked the manager about it and he was unaware as well. They told us that they were not informed about the special. In any case we ordered two of the "Left Fork" mussels with grilled bread appetizers which came out promptly. They were some of the largest and most Succulent mussels we ever had. We destroyed them and sat back to wait for our entrees. After about 1/2 hour sitting with the empty shells in front of us we decided they had to go so we moved them to the side of our table and continued to enjoy our wine. It was another 10 minutes or so before the wait staff noticed and took them away. Finally 45 minutes or more after we ordered, our entrees arrived. I had the roasted cod in broth with mushrooms and Brussels Sprouts which was wonderful. Phil had the fish and chips which came with steak fries, romaine and radicchio lettuce with Caesar dressing. He loved it. Jan had the MV lobster with orzo and cheddar and arugula which she enjoyed. After we finished, we asked to see the dessert menu which looked good. I informed our server that we wanted desserts but were concerned that it would be another hour before they came out. She was very apologetic and said the kitchen was short staffed. They expected more staff to arrive next week. We skipped desserts and asked for our check. We were laid back on Island time so the long dinner (2 1/2 hours) did not phase us and the food was delicious. I did not see the check so I don't know if we got the 2 for one deal. I will plan to return in a couple of weeks to see if they got the kinks out. read more

Nice meal. Fairly Attentive staff. Daisy was super nice. We had drinks on the great deck which was slightly chilly but theres a warming fire. Martini was $15 - a bit steep and a surprise. Bartender forgot us then forgot my lemon twist but the waitress recovered for her. Nice wine list and good selection by the glass. I had veg pad Thai. I would have spiced it up and used Thai or glass noodles but this peanutty dish was good. Traci had colossal shrimp. She really liked the sauce. Chowder was okay good but not enough. Seemed really light on the serving size. Lots of bacon in the middle though. I did get clams but not enough Clam taste. read more

Horrible service- this place has gone incredibly downhill. Save your money & eat elsewhere! We informed our server of a food allergy in our party & she assured us it was not an ingredient in the food. Turns out it was a main ingredient and when we brought it to her attention, she sent the hostess over to our table to argue that it was our fault. The table next to us had multiple servers come to their table to ask how their food was & refill their water & drinks, whereas our server never came back to refill anything or check on us. The food was also incredibly salty. When we were ready to pay, it took 30minutes to flag down a server to get our check. When the bill arrived, we saw that we were charged for an extra entree and had to ask for the hostess (is she the manager too??) to fix it. Our server said the chef told her to add it in, which made no sense. After arguing with her that we didn't even order (or receive) that entree at our table, they finally took it off. Also the couple next to us had their bare feet up on the table for the entire meal, and we noticed a waitress who looked over at them multiple times in disgust but never said anything. To top it off, the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting (urine everywhere). We will never be bringing any of our guests here again, or encouraging our renters to visit. We were married at the Winnetu/The Dunes 20 years ago. Since then we have gone back several times each summer as we have an emotional attachment to the Winnetu. Last night we visited with my sister's family and my Mom. We paid roughly $100/person for an absolutely terrible meal. The consensus was the only good thing about the meal was the bread which we had to request after having been at our table for about an hour. We will not go back again unless we hear things have changed dramatically for the better in subsequent years. read more

Great food and childcare - Unbeatable combination!! This is a lovely restaurant within the Winnetu Ocean Resort. When we arrived, we were treated liked old friends. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Onto the food! We had: Spinach Artichoke Flatbread - delicious and huge Scallops - very tasty Pacific Cod - extremely good Kids pizza - my daughter liked it Kids chicken fingers - my other daughter enjoyed it Blueberry Mojito - delicious Their version of a Dark and Stormy - good and strong Bananas Foster Bread Pudding - very good The gentleman who ran the kids corner did a fantastic job and seemed to have infinite patience with all the children. They won't answer the phone. You drive to the hotel, walk upstairs, see a sea of empty tables and are told they cannot accommodate you until after 8 pm. Edgartown is ten minutes away. Just go there and avoid this understaffed, over ego-ed nonsense. NB: the food is not up to the cost. read more

Very unprofessional staff and frustrating experience. My girlfriend and I made a reservation months in advance for a dinner with a private cabana. We were looking forward to this night as it was supposed to be the highlight of our trip. However, the staff switched our reservation date and did not tell us that cabanas were not available during the weekend. After booking an Uber (as the restaurant is not close enough to walk to) we arrived at the restaurant where we were finally told by the hostess that there were no cabanas available, but "they would make accommodations." They sat us on a high top table in a crowded patio--very different than the table we had reserved. Disappointing experience, in an otherwise great trip to Martha's Vineyard. Save your money and time and do not visit this place, there are much better restaurants with better staff in Edgartown. read more

If I could rate 0 stars I would! Worst restaurant experience I ever had Waited for almost 1 1/2 hours for food to be served after ordering! Food was cold! Food was awful. They even messed up a hamburger that was ordered! Order was wrong! Food order was not served all at once ! Waitress was no where to be found ! Restaurant manager lied to us ! General manager really did not care and was of no help! No apologies or resolution so this review is my resolution. I do not recommend the restaurant it may look nice but behind the curtain its a mess and poorly managed in my opinion. I have since heard many similar complaints in speaking with others last night. Wonderful. We were running late, trying to fit everything we could in as we toured Martha's Vineyard. We called to change our reservations twice and Juan was so gracious in accommodating us. Place is lovely. Price wise it's on target with everything you see in Edgartown, however you get more bang for your buck here. The swordfish and cod is absolutely incredible and mind blowing. Desserts, we got one of each and can't pick a favorite, so many different unique flavors. Our server was Ismel, he was superb and let us take it time as we were enjoying a nice night out with 4 friends who wanted some time to catch up. Can't wait to go back and ask for him again. They have an outside patio as well that overlooks the ocean. read more

I rather disliked this restaurant. There were only 3 waiters and the food was not good at all. They probably only have the kids corner to stop kids screaming that they are hungry. the only reason this place makes any money is because it is the only restaurant in south beach. Just take the five minute drive to downtown Edgartown and get some decent food. However, they have a great view of the sunset. I would come there just to see that. read more

Had a delicious meal last night. The view is amazing and new chef is so talented. The Oysters Rockefeller with his addition of kale was really outstanding and then the salmon with grilled eggplant was also one of the best things I have ever eaten. To top it off- the molten chocolate cake was decadently worth every calorie! Went back this summer-- a new level of delicious. We stayed at the winnetu and it was our first night after our check in. They gave us a hard time making a reservation at 6pm for our party of 9 because there was a large party at 6pm. So we settled for 5:30pm. The restaurant had max 5 tables and the large party at 6pm was nowhere to be found! Staff was friendly and it was nice there was a kid area with 2 staff members to watch/entertain them while the adults ate. I believe it was 3 and up to be in the play area. Food: Ordered the sea bass dish. While it was a good piece of fish, very little seasoning and pretty uneventful. Everyone else felt their meal was pretty average and nothing to write home about. You would have a pretty nice view of you were by a window overlooking the water by we were seated in the back probably because we had 3 kids and a large group. read more

We were hoping to be able to dine outside during the pandemic. We made a reservation for our large party of eight to be seated in two groups. Joe, the manager of the Dunes, assured us on three separate phone calls that they would be able to honor our request. We arrived on the night of our reservation and were told we would not be able to be seated outside and the only tables they had for us would be inside. If you want to be safe from Covid do not eat at the Dunes. They do not have safety in mind. We were not ready to dine inside but had no other choice but to do so. read more

The boat ride the resort was a lot of fun. The staff at Winnetu were incredibly attentive and friendly. The food... Well, it was okay. Nothing special. The portions were on the small side and it just seemed ordinary. Two members of our party took two bites and left the rest of their entrees alone. Twenty dollar hamburgers should have more than two bites taken from them... Just saying. Out of a dozen or so restaurants that I went to on the island, this is the only one that I can say I would never come back to. It's a shame because it is such a visually amazing place. This is at best a 2.5 star restaurant that tries to come across as a high-end place, and as a result over-charges for mediocre food and service. My wife and I know restaurants, and are not picky, but the food was barely edible (in fact our teenager would not eat his steak - imagine that). Service was 3-star quality. For three people, our bill was $250 (with $40 tip) which was robbery. There are much better places to eat in the area. Until this place raises its game SIGNIFICANTLY or drops the prices to match what you get in return, I'd stay away. read more

Agree with previous reviews. This is a 2.5 star restaurant that tries really hard to look/feel like a 5 star restaurant. Service really struggled tonight. They are about ~1 week before "high season" and boy do they need to get their (stuff) together. The restaurant was ~20% full tonight. Our server Sandra really struggled tonight. She was nice enough, however: A) we put in our drink order, and only ordered 1 alcoholic drink (wine). The (food runner?) brought the other drinks immediately, but after (greater than) 10 minutes, I finally asked the Maitre d' to look into our wine order. I explained that it had been well over 10 minutes for a simple glass of wine (bar tender was not busy). He very quickly returned with the wine - but did not apologize for the delay (a simple apology would have gone a long way). B) We ordered our dinner, and also ordered a side of cauliflower. The cauliflower never came, which was fine because we didn't really want it after all. Nor did it show up on our bill - but we clearly did order it and Sandra repeated it to us when we ordered it. I guess we came out ahead on that one. C) We ordered a bowl of seafood chowder (it was good, if you don't mind it very creamy). But with no black pepper on the table, would you take that opportunity to ask if we wanted fresh ground pepper (this was the food runner, not Sandra). D) i ordered some very, very mediocre lobster ravioli ($31), and there was a bunch of sauce left at the bottom. *Before I finished the ravioli* I asked Sandra if I could have some bread to sop of some of that sauce. 10 minutes later, there was no bread. Don't they just have bread ready to go back there? I reminded her and she said it is "coming right up" as if it is some entree she had to order. (greater than) 10 minutes after I asked for it, I was presented with some bread and butter to sop up my (now) cold ravioli sauce. The Winnetu is a great resort with wonderful staff. It is too bad that their flagship restaurant did not live up to that same reputation. read more
