While eating my way through Martha's Vineyard, I took a morning walk and came across the Harbor View Hotel, home of the well-known Bettini restaurant. Normally this place is booked solid when we visit the Vineyard, but around 8 AM we decided to take a chance -- and luck was on our side. We walked right in and grabbed a seat. I wasn't really hungry, but when you have a chance to eat where past presidents, foreign dignitaries, and celebrities dine, you don't pass that up. I went with the avocado toast, topped with toasted everything seasoning, heirloom tomatoes, shallots, and two eggs on multigrain toast. The verdict: it was very tasty. That everything seasoning hits different -- I need to find out where they get theirs. My only small critique is that I would have liked the bread slices just a little thinner, but that's more about me cutting back on carbs than them doing anything wrong. I'll definitely have to return during drinking hours to try their signature Shark's Attack cocktail. Rating: Solid breakfast spot. Worth the hype. I eat, I judge. The fork stops with me. read more

We tried this place for our anniversary dinner and it didn't disappoint. The staff were very professional and friendly, and we felt very cared for and appreciated. We skipped apps and ordered scallops (which were cooked PERFECTLY!) and the prime rib. Everything was delicious and amazingly cooked, and the duck fat potatoes we got as a side were a game changer. Everything came out at the same time and hot (which can be a miss in the US in my opinion). For our first time at Martha's Vineyard there were many dining options, but for an anniversary dinner I wanted something special. Called the concierge at American Express platinum to get their advice since they never steer me wrong.... They recommended Bettini's and were spot on... Located inside a hotel it has a fair view of the ocean but is away from the tourist traps which makes it work. Sunsets are worth the wait. Our server from Jamaica was amazing. Spot on recommendations ... The local oysters on the half shell were worth it & the crab cakes were lightly breaded so the flavor wasn't lost and the seasoning was a solid compliment that gave them a unique flavor. Even though we come to New England for fresh seafood, trusted the recommendation of the ribeye and it was mouth watering. Excellent service who pay attention to details and teh manager makes a point to visit every table. Great date night and highly recommended. read more

I enjoyed a couple of great cocktails and the Curry Spice Seared Alaskan Halibut was outstanding. The flavors were balanced, the fish was perfectly cooked, and the presentation was beautiful. The service was attentive and friendly without feeling rushed, which made the evening feel really special. We also had breakfast here the next morning and it was just as enjoyable. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and the atmosphere in the morning was relaxing with a nice view to start the day. We had our first dinner of the season June 12th and had a very pleasant surprise! We dine there several times each summer for many years and the food was usually OK but nothing special. But the beautiful view and atmosphere always made it worthy of repeat visits. But last evening the food was the center piece of the enjoyment ! Entrees of chicken, rack of lamb and cod were superb! We were seated immediately upon arrival and service was friendly and prompt throughout dinner. I ordered the baby lettuce salad to start and had the roasted chicken for dinner. My husband started with the endive salad and had the bolognese as his main. I was also able to taste the gnocchi. Service: 3/5 unfortunately despite all my detective work to find a great spot, the service was so disappointing. Our waiter didn't know the menu, didn't know when items had run out, and the complimentary bread took about an hour to come out with the drinks. The tables next to us had similar experiences and everyone was itching to leave. Food: 4/5 this probably is what makes this place more of a 4/5 than a 3/5. We chose Bettini for our 20th anniversary dinner, expecting a memorable experience--but unfortunately, it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. It took over two hours to receive our meals, and only after we raised the issue did anyone acknowledge the delay. To make matters worse, an obnoxiously loud group at the table next to us--who arrived after we did--was served well before us. When the food finally arrived, it was cold and bland. My bolognese lacked flavor, and after asking for it to be reheated, it came back with a warmer plate but still cold food--clearly just microwaved or briefly warmed, not properly fixed. The staff seemed stressed and inattentive, rarely checking on tables and always rushing. For a restaurant that presents itself as a high-end experience, both the food and the service fell flat. We had an absolutely spectacular evening at Bettini. We were staying in the hotel for a quick MV getaway to celebrate my birthday. Last year I had an ok birthday dinner, the year before was the start of the COVID pandemic so going to target was our dangerous excursion and highlight of that birthday, and two years ago we were in Israel during passover and everywhere was either closed or busting at the seams with a 2 hour wait. I was way overdue for a nice birthday dinner and stakes were high. I rolled the dice and decided to dine at our hotel's restaurant. I figured, it's the off season and wasn't overly concerned about making a reservation for a Thursday evening. Waiting until the day of was a mistake as there were no reservations to be had. We were told to inquire about high top bar seating. Fortunately there was a high top table available at the time of our arrival! Birthday luck, I guess. The service was excellent, our waiter was attentive and friendly. I can't find the drink menu online and the fact that I can't remember specifics about the drink menu testifies to their quality. At the suggestion of our waiter, we both started with the bettini which was a cross between a mimosa and a martini if memory serves. It was not too boozy and just sweet enough to make for an enjoyable but strong cocktail. I moved on to a cocktail called "Spa Water" or something to that effect with gin which was also a solid drink. To start, GF ordered the clams casino which my vegetarian ass is not familiar with but I am told it's a well known and slutty dish. It was adored. I started with the belgian endive salad with ricotta salata, toasted pistachios, herbs, and truffle vinaigrette. It was light and an excellent palate cleanser for the rest of the meal. They clearly indicate the vegetarian options on the menu, which was appreciated. For my main, I went with the pecan pesto gemelli which was absolutely delicious. The gemelli were al dente with a nice bite and the pesto had just a hint of cream and was very tasty. I also threw in a side order of broccolini which was nicely topped with parm. GF ordered the pepper seared yellowfin tuna steak with roasted sweet and sour peppers and crispy cauliflower. This did not last long on the plate which I think speaks for itself. In response to a friendly joke about us being old enough to drink, GF mentioned that it was my birthday on that very day. After our meal, I was surprised with a gigantic cannoli adorned with a birthday candle. This was such a nice touch that I appreciated tremendously. The space is also decorated beautifully which is a minor point compared to the service and the quality of the dishes. This was an incredible birthday dinner and we definitely made the right choice to dine at Bettini. I can't recommend this place enough, especially for a special occasion. read more

This restaurant is located inside the Harbor View Hotel, since we're staying here we decided to try it. Our server Ty was such a pleasure, very professional ,courteous and efficient. Now on to the food ,pan roasted organic half chicken with a cheese potato purée,forest mushrooms and chicken jus. Delicious. Wifey had the New England Crab cake and purée potato. This is a can't miss restaurant. When I made a reservation here during our vacation, my husband was reluctant to try it because he hadn't heard about it from other people. Looking at the pictures of the atmosphere, the menu, and the reviews, I had a good feeling about it. They exceeded our expectations. It was our two-year-old's birthday, which they knew. Upon arriving for our reservation, they greeted her with excitement and a little stuffed whale as a gift. The entire staff was gracious and welcoming, even with such a young child entering their upscale establishment, and that warmed our hearts. We had a seat by the window with a gorgeous view of the Edgartown harbor. The service was excellent throughout our experience, the food was delicious, and the chocolate lava cake was to die for. They even put a candle in the dessert for our daughter to blow out, and she couldn't have been more excited. We felt we weren't welcome there and all effort was made to discourage us to seat. We ordered filet mignon, pasta and vegetable dish. Steak was 5/10. Pasta was 0/10. Vegetable was 0/10 Pasta was undercooked. Vegetable dish was literally air fired cauliflower. Desserts were 12/10. Absolutely wonderful. We've only come here for breakfast but it's decent and convenient. If you order food and want to sit in the patio, the servers cannot take the food out to you. If you decide to dine inside, the servers will take your order and bring the food to your table. The Barista Daniel was great. Food: Breakfast sandwich with bacon and on a brioche bread - Can't go wrong. Anything with butter and bacon is amazing. I had this everyday. I should have switched to sausage but couldn't go away from the bacon. The chocolate chip pancake - Kids liked it. Acai bowl - Not my favorite but only because I got it to go (and the acai bowl did not look great - it looked like mud in a container) AND it had to be mixed in with bananas. I hate bananas so I couldn't eat it. We sat outside and brought the food to our rooms one day so that was fine. We were in a hurry one time and decided to dine inside next to the door. The unfortunate thing was that our food was brought out to an empty table by another door and left there... I had to go get it myself bc it clearly was going to sit there for awhile. Overall, an easy place to grab breakfast. Town wasn't too far but starbucks wasn't opened on Mondays or Tuesdays. read more

I can't even start, or end this review. Because my sox are still blown off so far away, I can't find them. 4 years ago the new owner took over this hotel and the restaurant and started making changes. The staff is AMAZINGLY down to earth yet impeccably poised and elegant with a hometown feel. Except for Rian who is also a stand up comedian with a heart of gold and a million buck smile. We came to Bettina for a wine dinner after experiencing a Michelin Star in Rioja, driving my husband to skepticism with no boundaries... And he was about to LITERALLY eat his words. A "mile long" (ok, I'm taking some poetic liberties here) table of hand-polished glassware lined a table, and the dining room was transformed into pure glitz. 10 courses, 10 pours. Wine tasting, right? EH! WRONG! 10 actual pours of wine magesically paired to what where 1/2 PORTIONS worth of deliciousness. Chef Alex Pineda came in from Marblehead with his Colombian flair and his almost fatherly love for service. With partnership from Bettina Head Chef, the duo and the blood giving kitchen staff banged out 10 AMAZING courses. In Chef's words "I don't strive for a star. I just want to cook REALLY GOOD FOOD with love. I leave it all on the plate". Yeah, he did that. Lobstah quenelle in its puff pastry shell with CAVIAR floating on a sea of lobster broth and butter. yes, he did that! Foia Gras, Pork belly, HAND MADE SOBA NOODLES from the Bettina crew in a stupid good duck broth and thin slices of duck... YEA I ate that. Tartare with caviar... and on and on. We were SO STUFFED by the end, we wondered if the kitchen was trying to assassinate us all by gluttony... Bernard, the owner gushed as he took in the glitz, the laughter, the oozz and ahhs of very VERY happy, full and satisfied visitors. NOT for the faint of wallet. We had an excellent meal and experience on a busy Saturday night in mid October. From the moment we were greeted at the host station, through the end of the meal, we felt welcomed and appreciated. Our wait-person was highly attentive, noticing small details; for example, I asked her for some pepper for my carbonara, she brought a pepper grinder and added pepper, and also left a salt and pepper shaker in case I wanted more. We shared a seasonal burrata salad, served with stone fruit, heirloom tomato, honey lavender, arugula, and truffled baby peaches. It was delicious, and enough for two. For entrées, we had the Faroe Island salmon and lobster bucatini carbonara. Both were perfectly executed, and the portions were generous. We were too full for dessert. We also shared an outstanding bottle of Chardonnay from their wine list. We were staying in the center of Edgartown, Bettini was an easy 10-minute, half-mile walk from our hotel. Bettini is a beautiful restaurant in a lovely location. We returned for a second visit last Friday, after an extremely good romantic date-night experience last summer, but were bummed out and sadly will only be returning for drinks on the deck. Speaking of drinks on the deck, that was lovely. What a view! It's self-service, however there's an extremely kind and thoughtful diminutive older lady out there who tidies up and who very sweetly brought us a small table to set up our drinks. I believe her name was Minnie? The hostess, Yelena, was also a delight. The restaurant should treasure these awesome representatives. Once the meal began, it fell apart fast. Our server was extremely brusque. It felt like we had insulted him before we ever said a word, which was pretty intimidating, though neither of us are rude, or oversensitive. Despite ordering three apps, two entrees, and dessert we left hungry. The tuna tartare was the first slap in the face, appearing without the avocado mousse or any seasoning/ponzu on a dark plate, so that the dish appeared empty. It might as well have been, as it was so small I finished it in two bites. The clams casino were tiny, and cheesy / creamy, not really what one thinks of when ordering that dish, but edible and tasted nice. My wide ribbon pasta with braised beef was also insultingly tiny and completely flavorless. Truly sad, since I have been dreaming about the Bettini pasta all year. It was so good that when we got back to NYC, I tried to re-create it at home. Dessert was served on an ice cold plate, and was too cold to enjoy the chocolate mousse. Dishes were absolutely slammed down in front of us, loudly, by our grim-faced waiters, and questions got sneers and grunts in reply. For example, we asked if we should order everything at once or if we could get apps and then mains once we had a bit of wine and bread, the waiter said, not unless you want to be here all night. :( We also ordered a full bottle of very nice wine. No wine pairing suggestions, or tastes, were offered however. After dinner there was an epic thunderstorm, which we watched from the deck while sipping bubbly. Like I said, the deck is where it's at. I don't need to pay hundreds to be treated like someone's sworn enemy, sheesh. Came for dinner with work colleagues who were in town for an event. The inn itself is in prime location on the island. Probably some of the best views. We sat at the bar because it was much faster than waiting (7:30 pm on a Monday was packed)! The bad was comfortable for dinning, even for our group of six people. Place definitely has a vineyard/New England vide. We tried several appetizers and my favorite was easily the sashimi. I could eat that stuff as a last meal. Truffle fries were hits, and they brought out a thick piece of toast that was the best appetizer bread I've had in a while (we definitely ordered more). For dinner I had the ribeye, and it was phenomenal. Cooked medium rare, charred and buttery. The drinks were so so. I ordered a few old fashions and each came out slightly different. One I sent back. I went to Bettini about six times during the winter holidays. It was empty for the most part when I went in, except for on Christmas day it was pretty packed. For breakfast the pancakes were actually really good, and I am not regularly a pancake girl. The bacon, eggs, and sausage were very good as well, but the star of breakfast are the omelets. Adding seafood to them really just takes it to another level. For dinner we tried all of the pasta options which were all very good. The calamari was very good as well (we got two orders of them!) but the clam chowder was not great. We did not finish it. My absolute favorite thing I ate was the mussels. They were so fresh and really well seasoned. The bread that came with it made the dish. Next time I go, I will have to try the scallops. The best part about the restaurant is the staff. From the bartender to the hotel manager to the waiters, they all worked to cultivate a really great environment and contributed to a great experience at the restaurant. The only thing is the menu is not very vast but the dessert and appetizers are really good. I would give it 5 stars, but I cannot justify the prices of the items on the menu. So 4 stars it gets. read more
