Absolutely loved this spot for dinner. I had been wanting to try The Covington for a while but we are usually dining as a group of six and the restaurant is pretty cozy with mostly 2 and 4 top tables. I finally got a chance to dine there with a friend during my most recent visit in late May and I was really delighted. The service was friendly and our waitress gave helpful recommendations on the menu but the food delivery was on the slower side. For dinner we shared the sweet potato rolls, smokes cauliflower, bolognese and the halibut. Favorite dish was far and away the smoked cauliflower. It was absolutely outstanding. The flavors and textures were perfection. The halibut and the pasta were also both great. The menu here is eclectic - there's some pasta, some Asian inspired dishes, some southern inspired dishes, etc. We got the bread service, sweet and spicy cucumbers, three sisters, bolognese, and mushroom ragu. The cucumbers were very good. Three sisters was creative but not our favorite because it was very squash heavy and had perhaps too many sauces. Overall, the prices are simply too steep - we live in Manhattan and can get better pasta dishes for less than the price Covington is charging. Service was fine. They have a smoker in the kitchen and its only job throughout the day is just to smoke beets for their incredible beet salad. Are you kidding me???? I was very upset at the hostess though for seating us at the very back when clearly there were so many other empty tables. When o asked , she said that they're reserved for 5he 5.30 and 6.00 o'clock reservations. We sat there and left at almost 6.20 and all those tables were still vacant. I didn't like the attitude and not sure why I felt like we were being judged in some way. Fabulous meal, wonderful and professional service, great atmosphere. We were on the patio, which is alongside the sidewalk. Might not appeal to all but we enjoy the people watching, and it added to our experience. The indoor dining room was certainly buzzing, so I'm sure they all were having a good time. I had the Nova Scotia halibut--deliciously seasoned and perfectly prepared. My sweetheart had the bolognese, which she said was delicious, and her son had the potato gnocchi, he said the ye tire was amazing, the texture was so light and airy. Aw man- so lucky to dine at this gem. We had reservations at another MV restaurant, but the time didn't work for us, so we called an audible and cancelled. Strolling through town, we came across this place, and wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather and dine outside- we had to put our names down, so some not-just-window-shopping to kill some time, but got a corner table on the patio under the lights at night- lovely! Our server was super knowledgeable and recommended some dishes we otherwise would have never tried, and man, was that a good call! Their bread service and Three Sisters (the recommended dish with squash, beans, carrots, corn, saffron, romesco *chef's kiss*) were a great start, the Mushroom Ragu was delicious, and the cocktails were terrific (including the server-recommended gin). I did not have very high expectations based off first glances at the menu, but WOW. The overall experience was amazing. All the seafood is caught the morning of, the produce has a shelf-life TAT of 3 days and all the pasta is made fresh, in-house. We had the best waitress, named Summer, who was so knowledgeable of the menu, and so sweet and friendly. The restaurant didn't seem super busy during a long weekend, which was super surprising considering how great everything was. I really enjoyed the dark and intimate ambiance. Wait staff and manager are great, very professional. If you are a Celiac, you need to be careful. There are a lot GF options and they seem to understand the issues associated with cross contamination however.... I got very sick. I had a long talk with the waitress when ordering and was assured that everything I ordered was GF. Maybe it was a one off issue but I'm not taking a chance on that again. Ok. First. The chef has some exceptional skills. We dined two years apart and experienced some excellent cuisine with consistency. The atmosphere is very different from inside to outdoor. Attractive but casual looking place with food that belies the ambiance. Very innovative rich blends of flavors with every dish. We had the Three Sisters (a delightful modern twist on this ancient tradition) and the scallops for appetizers. Then the absolutely enormous halibut belly. Our server (Sarah) recommended it for two people and she was right. Simply amazing simply insane simply super intense dish. One the best fish courses I've ever had. We asked if we were ordering too much and the server quite honestly said yes and offered great recommendations for how to be more realistic. The food was excellent. We had a spicy cucumber dish which, while simple, was one of the most interesting and unusual dishes I've seen in a while. Based on the food experience I give it five stars! They change the menu weekly depending on the ingredients so you know the quality will be fresh. The clam chorizo bowl was rich in flavor. The pasta dish tasted like handmade pasta and all the flavors mixed well. The house made bread with garlic butter was crisp on the outside airy and soft inside. As for the service I had to give it 3.5 stars because the hostess didn't seem very eager to sit us because we had 3 kids. It was a relatively quiet week night with plenty of seating. Tough review. I've eaten and enjoyed Covington over the years but not the recent visit. I had the seafood bucatini. The red sauce was bitter beyond belief and the seafood (lobster, clams - not sure there was much else even though it mentioned other types in the dish) were immensely dried out and tough / chewy. Okay if I was in a cheap restaurant I could hold my hands up and say I got what I deserved from a vat of this stuff, but not at $43-ish dollars. Also, the pasta was supper starchy and gooey. The bolognese was reasonable although it was a little light on flavor and meat. Most expensive plate of this I've bought $42. The kale salad starter was nice and the other started so-so. The waiter was nice - he ask how the food was, but didn't seem to get that we ate half of the seafood dish and said the bolognese was good, and the seafood was not what we expected. As a tourist coming from the tri-state area (NJ/NY), The Covington was one for the books. On a busy Wednesday night in August, I was so glad our last minute walk-in worked out because a party with reservation canceled, it was meant to be. Our party of 4 were seated indoors and we felt very comfortable because there weren't many tables open for social distancing. The restaurant's ambiance was modern yet cozy. I felt kind of sad for the restaurant, unable to be used to their full capacity but safety first, of course. I could see the restaurant menu changes seasonally and was not too extended but it had a great amount of farm-to-table items, which is their specialty. From pasta, to fresh fish, to exotic salads, this place has something for everyone. There's plenty of gluten free and vegan/vegetarian options but don't let that discourage you. For starters, my partner and I shared the Island Farmstand salad. The salad was crafted with perfection with Martha Vineyard's grown produces. It was hard to recap all the ingredients composed in the salad but there were fresh corns, tomatoes, arugula in vinaigrette, cauliflower puree/crema and topped with roasted cheese bits. Whoever created this masterpiece should consider keeping this salad permanently on the menu (when in season). It took a while for our entrees to come but maybe it was because we ordered a huge roasted halibut for two. Our patience was tested especially when our appetites were opened up by a delicious salad. The roasted halibut belly and collar did not disappoint. The meat was fresh and had a right amount of tenderness. The side potatoes and corns were great pairings. The portion was large enough for two people. It was a great choice. Our couple friends ordered the mushroom ragu and shellfish brodo and they could tell how fresh the ingredients were. Mushroom ragu was their favorite. Overall, this high-end restaurant delivers fresh farm-to-table meals and the creators of the dishes know what they are doing. If you can only pick one restaurant to eat at on the island, this is the place. read more

Really wonderful restaurant in Edgartown. Social distancing policies: excellent. The wait staff all wear their masks appropriately (over nose and mouth, not over chin) and the tables are quite spaced apart. There are a few tables out front but we actually sat in a row of tables along the side of the building, which I prefer because we don't get exposed to foot traffic. Menus are in paper. Food: really wonderful, our best meal in Edgartown. We shared the cacio e pepe(interesting take using squid ink pasta, which added a nice depth to the pasta; also really spicy, but in a good way), mushroom ragu (handmade pasta with a shiitake based sauce-really added a new dimension of earthiness to the dish) and the sole (really nicely seasoned, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside; also came with some lovely snap peas). Finished off our meal with a slice of honey pie, which was their take on an almond based pecan pie- really well done! Overall we truly had nothing bad to say about this place. I don't like these "small plate" style places in general, but this one was unusually small. Our group of 3 paid $200 before tip for what amounted to a few tiny and unsatisfying appetizers and a few drinks. One example- The "ham," listed as a "snack," was $20 for 4 tiny pieces. The snacks I am used to getting cost $5 and actually are enough calories to stave off hunger. The "entrees" were so crazy expensive that I didn't even think about ordering them. Paying a lot of money is okay if the food is awesome and you don't leave hungry. This restaurant fails as to both. The ceviche, all 3 teaspoonfuls served, was in fact good. read more

We are tough critics. The clams and chorizo had a great umami flavor and broth with bread to dip. The mushroom pasta was great and the cod was nicely prepared with a decadent salad (with a lot of superfood vegetables which include radish, watercress) and a nice snap pea farro salad. The desserts were on the smaller side so it's definitely recommended to order your own. The chocolate dessert was rich dark chocolate cake with coffee and a raspberry sauce which my boyfriend described as delicious. I loved the honey pie which is a take on pecan pie. My mom picked this place out for our last dinner in Edgartown, we had been the year before and really enjoyed it! The ambiance inside the restaurant is very nice, there are cool wood planks across the ceiling with light peeking through, and pretty glass bottle lighting (although the space overall is a little dark). We made a reservation far in advance and got a nice table by the window. I highly suggest you make a reservation, otherwise you will probably get turned away. I'm a vegetarian and got a special vegetarian menu. Note this didn't have anything different on it from the regular menu, just listed out the vegetarian options. It's a good place for those with plant based diets. We shared the Mermaid Farm Feta Panzanella, and the green harissa was a really tasty unique touch. The peaches were great to although the dish could have used more of them! My MVM Mushroom Ragu was delicious, the mushrooms were perfect and you could tell the pasta was homemade. My mom ordered the Tuna which came plated with a large arugula bed underneath, she liked it. Our favorite part was desert however - Honey Pie! Homemade ice cream on top, crunchy almonds in the pie and fresh honey drizzle, yum! I'd like to add everything I ordered was recommended by our waitress, who did a great job. If you're in Edgartown, go to the Porthunter (across the street) one night, and go here another night for sure. After being screwed over by a restaurant nearby, we were left without food options at 9:40 PM. Most of the restaurants in the area close at 10, and kitchens close even earlier. We ended up walking to The Covington. We spoke to the host, August, and he was very understanding. August then asked the kitchen if they were willing to stay open and they very graciously did. The staff here were incredibly accommodating and welcoming. They went out of their way to sit us in the restaurant. We both had the bolognese which was delicious! But we especially enjoyed the hummus appetizer. We cannot recommend this place enough! read more
