Amazing food and vibes--tavern style feel with superb food. The chicken sandwich served during Burger Night was a show stopper!

Now it's not everyday (honestly almost never) I feel like I want to give a restaurant a 10 star rating, but State Road BLEW me away!!! We came here to celebrate our anniversary dinner and arrived a little before our reservation time. They happily let us sit on the patio area and enjoy some drinks before our table was ready - they even helped move us to the bar seating as soon as it became available. Once we sat down, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary bottle of popcorn for our anniversary gift! The restaurant was lit beautifully with just enough light to read the menus but not too much where it became not as romantic. We made the choice this evening to try a few different appetizers and one entree to let us try various items off the menu, and boy am I glad we did! EVERY dish was one worth trying, we were close to licking our plates! We started with a black sesame focaccia that came with an olive tapenade butter - now i'm an avid olive hater and this homemade olive butter changed my mind. I don't think I've had bread as fresh as this one nor as complex of flavors for a focaccia before! We also had the lamb skewers, which were unique in terms of cuisine on the menu. We couldn't quite nail this place down to any one style or cuisine! It was delicious as expected, but on the smaller portions side. We moved on to trying the menemsha lobster corn bread and oh my goodness. I give so much kudos to the chef here for making a perfect blend of a celery puree base with corn bread and lobster somehow all mixed together. This was unlike anything i've ever tasted. Celery can tend to be over powering, but this was quite literal perfection. We did decide to also get the burger because we feared 3 apps may not have been enough food, but I will say by the time the burger arrived, I wish we had left it out! Compared to the other dishes, the burger was the least of the hits (while still being a top item). The burger had a twist with brie melted on it (how creative!!). Even after stuffing ourselves with the burger, we were so taken away by the deliciousness we were encountering, we could not dare skip out on dessert! And thank goodness we didn't. We enjoyed the Coconut chocolate cake as our finale while savoring each and every bite. The farm to table here is one that really stays true to their values and meaning. Probably the most authentic farm to table I have eaten to date. It was an honor to eat such creative foods, we were looking forward to coming back even the next day just to try the other dishes on the menu! An ABSOLUTE must try on the island!!! I can't wait to come back!

I went on a burger Monday with my bf. We didn't have a reservation so we had a short wait for a seat at the bar. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The gardens are nicely planted and comfortable for the wait. The menu was casual and sufficiently diverse for burger night. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and we both ordered the lamb burgers and a side of fries. Our dinner was delicious then we both had cappuccinos and shared a vanilla gelato with expresso. We were buzzing with caffeine when we left and look forward to returning again soon.

The food was amazing. I ordered the hen of the woods, whipped lemon ricotta and duck confit. My favorite dish was the hen of the woods but the duck confit was so good. I also got chocolate terrine to go but haven't indulged yet. Definitely my new favorite on the island! Service was wonderful as well!

We visited State Road during our trip to Martha's Vineyard and it was the best dining experience on the Island that we had. It's a nice ambiance which is perfect for an intimate dinner. The service was responsive, friendly and competent. With regards to food the carrot crab bisque was delicious along with the bread. I wasn't as impressed with the entrees and thought the carrots were too hard (I sous vide my carrots at home and they come out perfect). Overall a great experience and would come back to try the burger night.

The servers were great, not overbearing but very attentive and kind! The food was incredible- each dish was an experience. There are unexpected flavors in different parts of the dish that pop and the textures compliment each other beautifully. The dishes were just overall beautifully and thoughtfully composed. My table got the scallop dish, halloumi appetizer, and the striped sea bass special.

Excellent dinner and dining experience here at Martha's Vineyard. We love this restaurant, it is really beautiful and quaint. State Road is by far one of our favorite restaurants on the island. Highly recommend the roasted chicken and rice dish. The chopped salad and focaccia is wonderful, and my husband tried the hangar steak, also delicious! We polished off our dinner with the affogato with decaf espresso. What a delight. Erica our server was amazing! We can't wait to come back.

There isn't a dress code per se - casual beachwear - think linen, but pressed. The servers wear jeans. Casual is fine and you would be comfortable.

SERVICE (4/5): There weren't many tables, but service was good. We weren't in a rush and taking our time, so it was the perfect pace for us. FOOD (5/5): EVERYTHING WAS A 10/10! $4 EACH PER OYSTER: we tried the signature, honeysuckle, and top shell. They were all delicious and served with a vinegar, kimchee slaw, and cocktail sauce. All of them were so refreshing and great as an appetizer! $23 TUNA CARPACCIO: fresh, lemon sauce & crunchy tobiko eggs. The presentation is immaculate! $22 BLUE CRAB SLIDER: the homemade chips it comes with is AMAZING! Love any homemade chips. Served on a sweet Hawaiian roll, it's beautifully plated and blue crab is better than lobster in my opinion! $15 HOUSE MADE CHOWDER: can't go wrong with chowder! $36 HERB BAKED COD: so perfectly seasoned and cooked so it's soft but flaky. Comes à la carte. DRINKS (5/5): $19 PUMPKIN ESPRESSO MARTINI: this was a seasonal drink and it was SOOO GOOD! $20 BACON OLD FASHIONED: this was EVEN BETTER than the pumpkin martini! Candied bacon, and a perfectly crafted cocktail.

I went with a group of girlfriends on Tuesday night and we had a great evening. While my preference is to sit on the patio for lunch, the dining room is a wonderful vibe at dinner. I loved my pork chop that I ordered for my main course and also thoroughly enjoyed the steamed asparagus, roasted carrots and smoked tomato grits. Our waiter, Nash, was a standout and really facilitated a smooth dining experience. We ordered a few desserts to share but the clear winner was the carrot cake which was a knock out. We will be back for lunch this summer but are also thrilled to have this on our list for dinner.

While I can appreciate the choose your own adventure / tasting concept and benefits of moving at your own pace, wine tasting is something where I'd prefer to have more of a personal touch. The storytelling and personal connection was missing, and made the experience feel a bit hollow. The space was a nice open hang and there's snacks and games, and there is staff there, but the experience made me realize I prefer a guided human tour for some things, wine tasting being one of them. Prices also snuck up on us a bit, it's easy to lose count of how many you've had with the card reader. I was also a bit bummed to find that if you liked a wine you cannot purchase a bottle on site. But I'm glad I tried it and had fun.

Our server made several mistakes throughout the evening and had an unexpectedly aggressive attitude. He forgot my sister's wine twice, brought out an incorrect order, and mishandled my mom's dessert request. There was also confusion around the dessert order. My mom wanted one scoop of gelato and asked about the available flavors. The server was very unclear, using "sorbet" and "gelato" interchangeably throughout the conversation. In the end, she ordered one scoop of "lemon gelato," as he described it, which should have been $3. So we were surprised when the bill came and showed a $14 charge for lemon sorbet--which wasn't even listed on the menu. When we pointed this out, the server responded in a pretty surly manner, though the charge was eventually corrected. After we paid, he brought over a scoop of vanilla gelato and said it was "on him," but the delivery felt sarcastic and he placed it on the table quite aggressively. By that point, we were already full and honestly just ready to leave. Overall, the food and atmosphere were great, but the poor service really put a damper on the evening and left us ending the night on a negative note. Since we were a party of six, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill, which was unfortunate given the level of service we received.

I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.
