We really enjoyed our food here! We came during the busy season in August, but that was no issue. We made reservations well in advance. The food was good, fresh. They also had gluten free cake, which was fantastic. I also appreciated they had multiple gluten free desserts and they also had all gluten free options labels throughout the menu. We had an amazing time dining in the Woods (once we navigated the uber-treacherous drive to the place in pitch black darkness). I think the trick in the era of covid is making outside dining at least as compelling as inside dining. That's certainly the case here. Walking to our table among all of the beautiful flowers seemed so dramatic (in a good way). It just added to the overall pleasant experience. And having excellent fare also doesn't hurt... The standout for me was the hangar steak- usually a cut that I avoid like the plague when I see it on the menu. I took a chance and it turned out aces all the way for me- succulent and delicious. My dinner companions all had the lobster bake which they thought was equally tremendous. The traveler sees what they see while the tourist sees only what they have sought out. One should always be a traveler, never a tourist, wherever they go. Therefore, when traveling to Martha's Vineyard, I implore you to venture beyond the shops and easily accessible restaurants of Edgartown and drive to the opposite side of the island to experience a truly unique dining experience; you will be greatly rewarded for your efforts. Keep your GPS handy as you travel down scenic Lambert's Cove Road so you don't miss the subtle entrance to Manaquayak road where you will carefully navigate a narrow avenue, encapsulated in nature, before reaching the picturesque inn that will be your dining destination. Without hesitation, you should opt to dine outdoors in the garden. You will be as enchanted with your surroundings as if you had just found Archibald Craven's lost key and gained entrance to the garden at Misselthwaite Manor. For an appetiser, we started with raw oysters, flavoured only with lemon and, despite being deep in the secluded woods, you will feel as if you're back along the shore. After which we were treated to a very light clam chowder. This dish was prepared without cream and was the ideal way to follow the oysters. The flavour of the whole shellfish was the dominant taste and the fact that it was not a rich soup left your appetite primed for the main course. Upon suggestion by our waitress, I selected the lamb and it was tender and flavourful. My girlfriend selected the scallops and, despite the perfection of my entrée's preparation, I was jealous of the dish's exquisiteness. The sauce in which the scallops were served enhanced their savouriness. Upon returning, I would be loathe to order anything else. Dessert was a perfect scoop of vanilla ice cream over a homemade brownie that rounded out the meal consummately. The only reason I could not give Woods 5-stars was due to a small but egregious folly that occured with our meal. However, the staff was quick to remedy their mistake and I believe that the incident was an outlier for such a professional and talented kitchen. It certainly will not prevent us from returning to Woods to enjoy their cuisine amidst their idyllic surroundings. Highly recommend! read more

A memorable evening amongst nature. We felt as though we had been transported to the garden of an English country estate and were able to watch birds and bunnies in the foliage between courses. The tuna crudo was perhaps the most delightful thing I've ever eaten; it was impossibly light and fresh, and the fish was perfectly tender. Staff were thoroughly friendly and charming and apologized for perceived hiccups though none were apparent to us. We were thrilled to dine with them on their first day open for the season which turned out to be the best weather day on island. read more

We just had the most wonderful dinner experience at The Woods. Bridget and Galen and their team are simply amazing. Our waitress Anna was so professional and kind. I loved my Caesar salad and lamb dish. The attention to detail from the plating of each dish, to the staff's beautiful plaid shirts, to the stunning tulips from the inn's garden was so appreciated. Came here for a weeknight dinner with a party of 6. We all ordered different times for each course and we were all disappointed with the lack of flavor in every single dish. Some of the ones that were exceptionally worse than others were 1. Watermelon gazpacho- tasted like a melted watermelon slushy that had no flavor- 2 people ordered it 2. Peach salad- half an unripe peach with no flavor with a tasteless puree- again 4 people ordered it and none finished it 3. Scallop dish- scallops were ok bugging special but the quinoa that came with it was bland lacking anything fragrance or flavor 4. Cheese platter- desert cheese platter turned out to be a huge tray with random chunks of mediocre tasting cheeses- certainly didn't finish it All in all, felt like we were fooled into spending hundreds of dollar for food that were below the standard of even the most mediocre restaurants. We dined indoor and it was empty lacking any vibe. Don't be fooled by the great description of the food, save your money and go elsewhere. Eg. Covington or porthunter. read more

While the dishes at Woods did not taste bad, they did disappoint my husband and I greatly. I had picked the restaurant based on the reviews and images that promised creative ingredients and preparations ("inventive" is how the restaurant described its cuisine). Instead, we were served a lazy Restaurant Week-style menu that was anything but special. That being said, some dishes were pretty yummy, but at $300 for 2, the overall experience is a fail. Starters: The oysters were delicious. You get six plump Edgartown oysters, which is a nice way to start the meal. The tomato soup however, was a big disappointment. We were told it was a deconstructed gazpacho soup that can simply be described as "summer in a bowl." Instead, what came out was a bowl of not-so-flavorful broth with halved cherry tomatoes and other miscellaneous uncooked root pieces. There was neither the familiar tartness characteristic of gazpacho nor the sweet savoriness of tomato soup. Instead, the dish just tasted lazy and raw, with the flavors disjointed rather than deconstructed. Salad: Taste-wise the salad wasn't bad. I liked the shaved carrots, which added a bit of sweetness to the salad, but that's where the creativity ended. Main: My husband and I both opted for the Ocean Farmed Salmon because there really wasn't much else to choose from: hanger steak with fingerling potatoes, a vegetarian pasta, lobster clambake (with $10 surcharge) and farmed salmon on zucchini. For a $95 per person menu, I had hoped for either better ingredients (hanger steak and farmed salmon, really?) or more interesting preparation methods, but neither could be found. At least the salmon was not overcooked. But honestly, the chef could have put in a bit more effort. Salmon with zucchini is what you usually find in "15 minute dinner recipes", not $95 per person four-course meals. Dessert: My husband had the brownie and ice cream and I had the Panna Cotta. Not sure if it was just us, but the brownie piece was rather small and reminded my husband of Little Debbie. My dessert was fine, but again, nothing to write home about. Drinks: We had two sangrias ($15 each) and a glass of red wine. The sangrias tasted watered down and I could not taste the hibiscus and peaches promised in the descriptions. The wine was recommended by our hostess and was $25, but alas tasted little better than some house reds. At the end of the day, the dishes all tasted fine (with the exception of the tomato soup), but there just didn't seem to be much care or thought put into the menu for what the restaurant promised on its website ("inventive American cuisine") and its price point (close to tasting menu pricing). The outdoor setting at the Woods is beautiful. Please use more effort next time on the menu so it can round out the classy experience. read more

This place is fantastic. They've really managed to create a 5-star, exclusive-feeling environment at this off-the-path inn. We didn't know anything about this place going in, so everything was a pleasant surprise. They even sat us on a Saturday night despite our online reservation never going through. They are in a dry-ish area of the island, so their "cocktails" are actually beer and wine based, but not bad despite that. The appetizers were all fantastic, but the scallops are a must-get. I could've eaten ten. The smoked tuna spread, ceviche, and burrata were also incredible, and I'd recommend getting as many appetizers as possible. As far as entrees go, we tried the bolognese (get it, it's in an incredible tomato cream sauce that I could drink), the lamb special (good but kinda watery and not a ton of meat), and the whole black bass. The fish was filleted, but not with the most skill, so it was kind of just in a pile on the (very cool) presentation platter. We didn't have room for dessert, but if I visit the island again, I'll definitely come back here. read more

What a disappointment! A party of 6 of us came here on Wednesday night and were expecting great things, (our first time here), but we were let down big time. The night was a miss on food, service, ambiance and value. Unfortunate, because we All really wanted to like it. I hardly ever give one stars but this was such a miss I had to post so you know this might not be the "4 stars" you're expecting. Food - As we knew going into it, Woods is a pre fixe menu at $95/person. The problem was that the food lacked flavor on all four courses. For apps, My parents got the watermelon gazpacho and were thoroughly disappointed. It lacked the bite of a typical gazpacho and the watermelon robbed it of the flavor. The rest of us got the fried oysters which were decent, but far from noteworthy. For salads, the peach "salad" was extremely disappointing. The peaches weren't fresh and the dish lacked in size and flavor. It really isn't a salad at all. The mains we got (we all got either scallops and pasta) lacked taste as well. The scallops themselves were cooked well enough but the rest of the dish was bland. For dessert some of us got chocolate cake which was OK. The three cheeses dessert dish came out on a giant log with fruit that wasn't fresh. It played more like an appetizer than a dessert. Wine list was robust but only a few by-the-glass options. Service - Our server was nice enough but when you're paying $95/person you are expecting a certain level of classy service that was not present. It felt more like the service you'd get in a friendly diner. Ambience- This one may have been our mistake as we did not request outdoor seating (the garden looked beautiful), but they sat us in the side room with the bar even though the main dining room was empty. Our room was empty except for the bartenders and servers who kept coming through to get drinks. The music didn't match the setting as we heard everything from Adele to Nelly Furtado to Timbaland. It sounded like a top 100s Spotify chill hit list. Value - HUGE miss on value. Did I mention the $95 pre fixe (before drinks)? The ambience and service could've been forgiven if the food lived up to the price tag, but it missed by a wide margin. Unfortunately, we won't be back. If you do go, request the garden seating and make sure to check out the alpacas. That was the highlight of a bitter night for us. read more

Hi Keya, Yes, as I said in my review, we were not notified at ANY point by our server that this was a dish sharing scenario. Only after asking the fourth staff member we had contact with after a long and frustrating wait, were we given an explanation. If we had been notified off the bat, it still would have been disappointing as the pacing was really off, and the two glasses of wine coming after a long wait and 15 minutes apart - after asking again, was not acceptable. It was not crowded. Your response is snarky and disappointing... Instead of just owning that your service for our party was unsatisfactory, you alienated a West Tisbury neighbor with a non-apology apology and insinuation that we got away with something by leaving. We received one inedible plate and a second after a very long wait with no explanation why from our server who, when we asked why it was taking so long said, "I don't know." We left with three of our party never having been served, and before disappointment turned to anger. read more

The Woods restaurant at Lambert's Cove Inn is serving incredible farm-to-table food in a beautiful, lush garden setting. We had a four-course prix fixe meal, which managed to work despite lots of dietary restrictions. Of note were the local oysters to start; a smoky, broth-based take on clam chowder; roasted salmon over a bed of julienned zucchini (with a crispy fish skin as a standalone addition); and the hanger steak with duck fat fried potatoes (which resembled more of a hash or a tater-tot). This was only a 15 minute walk from where we were staying so thought we'd give it a try. Very glad we did. Food was great as was the service. Chef Jimmy and GM Alex both came by to see how everything was and talk about the food and restaurant. We had fluke ceviche made with tigers milk and other ingredients. Not a typical style but very good. Then scallops and yellowfin tuna. Both fresh from so. Mass. Both were excellent, done well with interesting sauces/purees. This was the third year we have dined at this restaurant. The food has always been good, and this year it was better than ever. The service this year, however, was awful. After we were seated, it took more than a half an hour for a waiter to appear at our table. No one apologized. After we were served our first course, we asked for our water glasses to be refilled, but they were not. We didn't get the water until after the third course was served. Our waiter never asked if we wanted anything else to drink. As a result, we had no wine to drink with the main course, which pretty much ruined the experience. Large family party for dinner: My family party of 14 went to Woods for our one dinner out in MV. We had 8 adults, and 6 kids under the age of 6. Atmosphere: off the beaten path, and very cute. The inside was charming and quaint, yet open with comfortable seating. After ordering, the kids went outside to look at the animals. We felt far removed from the tourism of MV (in a good way!) Food: Delicious! Mix of fish, meat, and vegetarian. We had 2 family members with severe food allergies, and the staff were incredibly helpful with making sure everyone had good food to eat. Staff: These people are saints. They immediately came and introduced themselves to us after we were seated. We had 6 kids under the age of 6, and it was a lot of commotion in our party. We had a large table separate from others, but despite overtired antsy kids, the staff were incredibly kind and understanding. This was a great choice for our one restaurant outing for our family party, would recommend it to anyone! read more

The wonderful folks at Lambert's Cove Inn hosted a retreat for a nonprofit Board I am on this past weekend and we got a special "sneak preview" of this fantastic new restaurant. This was truly one of the BEST meals of my life. The restaurant's amazing chef, Jimmy Alvarado, cooked up seven spectacular, imaginative courses for us. Each plate seemed to have been crafted so delicately - the flavors balancing perfectly so as to complement and not overwhelm one another. I loved the chef's creativity - for example, who would have thought of sprinkling a few bits of chulpe on ceviche? (Chulpe is Peruvian popcorn - closest American relative might be corn nuts) The result was a brilliant little pop of crunch and flavor to contrast with the velvety smooth fish. And, as blinded by pure joy as I was by the cuisine, I still appreciated the wonderful wines that Woods General Manager Alex paired perfectly with each course and the impeccable service provided by our friendly, witty server Benita, who seemed to always be there filling our water glasses and whisking away empty plates to replace them with yet another breathtakingly beautiful composition. So I tend to stray away from giving negative feedback; however, this restaurant is an exception. I have been treated with such DISRESPECT and UNIMPORTANCE in my life. I have traveled all over the world and this restaurant takes the cake with worst experience and I did not even eat here. Let me elaborate, a few days before we made a reservation where a woman said she was sure she can seat us but just in case she will give us a call, NEVER RECEIVED A CALL (pt 1). The day before the reservation I called receiving this message from one of their staff "Yes I see your reservation, I can neither confirm or reject your table but I can get back to you", NEVER RECEIVED A CALL (pt 2). The morning of the reservation I received the same message from one of their staff and shockingly again later, NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK (pt 3). Finally, I called an hour and 20 mins before our reservation assuming everything was good because while they never called back in the beginning they assured us we would be served. THE WOMAN HAD THE AUDACITY AGAIN, to give me the same message, I firmly said no we have been getting this 3 times and I still have no firm commitment, she then continued to ask us to come to the restaurant and see if they have a table and wait. The woman had no SYMPATHY and gave NO APOLOGY. I understand in this world with covid things are crazy but at least have the respect to either call back or say yes or no on the reservations. I still don't know if they had a dinner waiting for 6. There are so many better, more beautiful, and trendy restaurants on the island. Clearly this one has an incorrect rating! read more

Let me say just wow! We all started with and shared the Maple Brook Burrata, Brussle Sprouts and Truffle fries. Outstanding and the presentation of each was attention to detail, if my husband had a spoon he would have used it to get every drop of the pesto brodo in the burrata, it was that good. The burgers did not disappoint two of our guest, I had the day boat yellow fin tuna cooked just right, the light sauce was amazing. My husband had the aged rib eye and raved about how this is how it should be done! I honestly thought he was tempted to lick the plate (of course he did not). Just spot on in every area. We met the chef and his team, such passion for their craft. The veggies in the dishes were out of this world, they certainly know how to bring out the best in the local island ingredients.
