This restaurant is located in a beautiful house. It is a beautiful place. They serve about ten different types of raw oysters to choose from. We tried the three types from Martha's Vineyard and they were they absolutely scrumptious. We also really enjoyed the octopus too. There was also a large selection of wines and cocktails. I give the restaurant four stars instead of five because it seems like the rest of the meal was good but not great. I ordered the scallops with the crab fried rice. Both were too salty from the soy sauce. A friend of mine ordered the duck pot pie. He said it was good but the rich duck flavor was overwhelming. He couldn't finish it. My husband ordered the 16 ounce New York strip steak, a Caesar's salad and mashed potatoes. He enjoyed the steak very much. It was little overcooked for a medium steak and was more medium well. The Caesar's salad was fresh and the dressing was clearly house made. Finally our server went away for quite some time between courses. It appeared that a friend of the staff was eating there because several servers went over to the table to socialize for most of the time we were there. However when she was there, she was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the menu. I'd say that if it wasn't for those fantastic oysters and cooked octopus, this restaurant would get a much lower rating. read more

Dinner for six on the Sunday of the Labor Day weekend was a perfect holiday treat. Note that this seasonal restaurant does not take reservations and will sit you only when your entire group is present. We were fortunate to catch a table on the outside deck with a large umbrella. Our wait staff gave us water and waited for us to settle in. We ordered drinks and a couple of apps such as raw oysters and other delicious looking plates. Our evening was calm and not rushed. However, during my last two visits, and I go here very frequently, I was extremely disappointed with what they are trying to pass off as crostini. Two strips of Melba toast with Parmesan cheese grated over them is not the same. That's basically a crouton. I arrived on a Saturday above the hour prior to the night crowd settling in and was seated immediately which is great at a place with no reservations. Lobster bolognese & scallop bowl: I'm happy that I selected the lobster bolognese since I visited 19 Raw for seafood and it was the most appealing seafood entree aside from the scallop bowl. I tried a little of both, and would say that the scallop bowl is probably one of the best items on the menu. It took me a while to order because in person nothing appealed to me. Considering that 19 Raw is named for its 19 raw oyster variations, you should try the oysters. I did not, but noticed later that it was the most popular dish. As someone new and visiting I would have appreciated more direction with the menu to determine what to order, but it seemed like a gathering place for locals. read more

We walked in on a whim and need to have seafood! Wow! Best choice ever! Seated outside under and heat lamp was perfect for the four of us. The menu from top to bottom caught my eye and wanted to order everything. To start: espresso martini was made as it should with a foamy top and balance of sweetness and vodka. The Raw-Rita, also very good and refreshing. I would suggest family style/sharing to enjoy Chef Joe's creations. Also, would suggest ordering your cold foods first then followed by the hot foods next. Our waiter said to order everything at once as the kitchen 'likes it that way'. DON'T. It ALL came at the same time. Started with 3 types of oysters: Wellfleet then Honeysuckle then the Glidden Point (briny to sweet). Glidden was my favorite along with a touch of the kimchi. Eating the hot foods first as to enjoy them.... HOT. Charred Octopus - SOFT and charred to perfection. Chorizo was a nice added touch. Foie Gras - melts in your mouth with the pineapple compote was complimentary. Shrimp and Grits - jalepeno gave just enough kick along with the blueberry - Tequila vin brightened the taste. Rivals the southern taste I love. Roasted Yellow Beets- sweet and perfect compliment to above hot dishes! Next up, the cold dishes: Ménage a trois - a party in your mouth! Scallop Crudo - Asian inspired take on seafood in ponzu. Fresh, bright and MELT IN YOIR MOUTH! Was a great opportunity to finally check out 19 Raw in Edgartown, MA (Martha's Vineyard). The wait was well worth it! This cozy intimate restaurant has some of the best food and wide variety I've ever seen on the island! The server I had was very friendly and patient as well. Funny enough I got this recommendation from bad reviews of The Atlantic Chop House. Everyone seemed to recommend this place and now I know why. You get even better food and more options without stuffy or rude managers/employees. I'll be coming here for any nice dinners out on the island from now on! The Lobster Caviar slider was amazing and fully stuffed, the fois gras was so delicious that I ordered THREE ORDERS JUST FOR MYSELF... yes... THAT good. The lobster tail add on was delicious (highly recommend having with bernaise sauce). My only complaint was the truffle Gnocchi Side. I was just a bit disheartened cause it wasn't as flavorful as I had hopped considering the ingredients added are some of my favorites. Other than that I enjoyed every bite! We were on our yearly visit to Edgartown and decided to try a different place for dinner this time around. Stumbled upon 19 Raw and was so impressed with our meal that we went a second time the following week. Great menu and quality dishes beautifully presented in a nice atmosphere. We sat indoor night one and outside in the front patio on our next visit. The restaurant does not take reservations( not a big deal), so be aware of that. I must add that we were somewhat annoyed upon arrival on our second visit when the hostess stated that we had 2 options (only) to sit. We could sit in the bar right next to the door on a small high top or another part of the patio away from the front. The front patio was not offered. I asked if we could wait for a patio seat and we were told we could not because, "everyone was already seated". ( was that going to be forever and ever??) I stated that we didn't mind waiting and the hostess said we could not do that, we would have to come back. ( really?) I stated that it did not make sense that we could not put our name in and wait for the patio. We begrudgingly agreed to try the high top in the bar, but it was too small for a party of 4 and that was not going to work for us. My husband spoke to the manager and explained what happened and "miraculously" a patio table opened up. Now on to the positive. The oysters were amazing, the scallops are giant, tender and delicious,the Bibb salad was huge and tasty, steaks tender and the pork chop is massive and flavorful. We also had the sriracha fries and creamed spinach ( no pics) and those too were delicious. The steak (filet and chateaubriand) was perfect and the sides, especially the dauphinoise potatoes and the carrots, were exceptional. 19 Raw has been one of our go to spots on island since we discovered it at the start of last summer. Unfortunately our recent experience has us wondering if it was just Monday night inconsistency or something bigger. Hoping it was Monday and the A team had the night off. The oysters were great but the meal overall was mediocre at best. The brussel sprouts were more like soggy wilted spinach, and everything was very salty. Service started out attentive but quickly withered with the sprouts. Our server was displeased with his gratuity and told us as much, asking if the meal was not good. When we said that the meal was pretty disappointing he simply walked away. Mondays are tough, we will try again, hopefully not a downward spiral of one of our favorite island go tos. read more

On a very recent trip to Martha's Vineyard, a friend and I stopped in on a weekday afternoon for appetizers. FOOD- I throughly enjoyed the Ménage trois appetizer. It had a variety of seafood in an amazing symphony of flavors. My friend had the clam chowder. He said it was one of the best he's ever had. Of course, I had a taste and totally agreed!!!! DRINKS- I enjoyed a Lavender Lemonade. My friend enjoyed his ice tea! SERVICE - The service was good. However, I think it could've been a little bit more attentive. (lets not focus on that, didn't end well) The bartender couldn't have been nicer, walked me through the menu, pointed out his favorites, and then made great recommendations for wine pairings. My wife and I stopped by for dinner after gorging on beef and pork the last three days (that popular Brazilian churrascaria, a boujee hot dog place and i went ham on barbecue making a brisket, ribs and sausage.) I'm a hot sauce junkie, so habaneros are nothing to me, but my wife is the total opposite. The first bite was really way too hot for her, but it tastes SO DARNED GOOD that she went in for a second bite, and a third and finished half of it. The homemade chips on the side are fantastic! She got the herb-crusted cod, which was phenomenal. I had the butter-poached lobster tails. I wasn't expecting the corn to be on the cob, and the restaurant seems a little nice to just start chewing it off the cob. The jalapeño creamed corn could indeed use more jalapeño, which we told our waitress. The whole cauliflower with Parmesan was amazing! (We only ate about half of the sides - they're big!) We finished with the turtle cheesecake. Honestly, it was probably the best turtle cheesecake I've had. There were a lot of varied textures and flavors that all worked really nicely together. The innkeeper where we stayed recommended this place and it is truly a gem. Tuesday night it was closed but we checked on Wednesday and were very pleased that it was open. We did not have any reservation and did not have to wait to be seated. Great atmosphere inside and outside. We shared the creamed spinach. I had the Duck Pot Pie which was amazing. My husband had the 12oz Coulotte steak which was also fantastic with its sauce. It was aged, properly seasoned, and thick. Cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared a cheesecake dish with nuts and chocolate and some strawberries on the side. Wine list and drinks are exceptional here too. Highly recommend this restaurant while staying in Edgartown. Mallory was a great server and very sociable. This is a first come first serve restaurant. This was one of my first dining experiences on the vineyard, and it surely did not disappoint. Located in the heart of Edgartown, 19 raw offers a charming cottage facade with ample outdoor space. To start, we ordered an assortment of oysters. All were delicious, but the Honeysuckles, in particular were aptly named as they were sweet and delicious. The entreés really stood out. The sea bass was perfectly cooked with ginger and spices that met for an explosion of flavor. The lobster bolognese with bucatini was absolutely delectable. Every bite had me wishing for more, and the bucatini was fresh and cooked perfectly al-dente. We also tried scallops and tuna crudo, which did not disappoint either.
