"Medium Well" burger. Not sure it was even cooked!
Jenny B.

I recently dined at the 17th Light Restaurant with a group of 10 friends, which is located inside the Marriott. The restaurant was close to where we were staying, and one of the few places that we didn't have a wait to get a table. We were seated right away with menus, our orders for both drinks and meals were not taken until 10 to 15 minutes later. This should have been a sign that the service was going to be slowwww. Our drinks came out within 5 minutes, which was the quickest thing of the night. The majority of our group ordered burgers, which should be a fairly quick meal to prep. Four of our ten meals where delivered about an hour and fifteen minutes after we were seated, the next four came fifteen minutes later. Apparently two of them were completely forgotten and not even cooked- which meant an even longer delay. The meals all had the potential to be delicious, if only a little effort was put in. All of the fries were cold, orders were messed up, hamburgers were missing toppings... and they worst part? The burgers were extremely under cooked. Four of the burgers were ordered as Medium Well, and came out rawer than rare- disgusting (see my photos). They were somewhat edible, but one burger was so raw, that we had to send it back (with the slow service, it wasn't even replaced). The waiter was apologetic, blaming the delay on a server not showing up to work. Clearly this was a problem in the kitchen. It was shocking to me that the manager on duty made no attempt to apologize. I finally asked to speak with her (Brianna), and was baffled in her lack of professionalism. During my conversation with the manger, she kept doing menial tasks and would not talk to me directly. After I asked her to adjust the bill, she had to call another manager, who offered a 35% discount. I asked for the raw burger that was sent back to be taken off and was rudely told no. I asked to speak to the manager on the phone myself, and was again rudely told no. Finally the hotel manager (Chasity) on duty become involved, and was the complete opposite of Brianna. She was professional and kind, and delivered the kind of service that I would expect. Chasity helped us remove the raw burgers, split the bill, and apply the 35% discount to everything. I am disappointed in the service and meal I received here, but even more disappointed that a great brand like Marriott would let themselves be associated with such a horrible place.

Ahi tuna wrap and sweet potato tots.

I came here to meet my sister for her lunch break. She commented that we should pick our food quickly because generally the food takes awhile to come out. We ordered immediately and it didn't take too long. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Wrap (maybe it was mahi mahi?) and it was great. I opted to get the sweet potato tots as a side and it was a good addition. If i'm in the area and meeting my sister for lunch I would definitely come here again. Food is affordable, delicious, and the atmosphere is nice.

While on a conference in Baltimore, we decided to meet a colleague who was staying in the residence inn and she suggested the hotel restaurant. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a terrible suggestion. First of all, on a cold rainy night, you don't want to walk into a restaurant to have dinner, only to find out you have to keep your jackets on because it is colder inside than outside!! Secondly, even though there were like two other customers, the service was excruciatingly slow. I decided to order a crab soup to get warm and a blackened tuna wrap, both of which were awful. The soup tasted like canned crushed tomatoes mostly and I was not warned that it was going be spicy. The tuna was super cold and grossly under seasoned. The wasabi aioli was watery and kept spilling everywhere and it was quite tasteless. All in all, a bad experience. I would have enjoyed a subway more!

My medium-well burger... yum.

What an utterly disappointing experience! The only reason I am even giving this restaurant a review is due to the politeness of our understanding server. It was so difficult for me to even give this establishment(not that it's established) a star. My friends and I (a party of 10) chose to eat at this restaurant on a Saturday evening, upon which we entered around roughly 6:10 pm. It was difficult for us to find a place to seat is quickly, due to the Ravens playoff game, but we were quite surprised to be sat down almost immediately. Barely half the restaurant was seated so our odds for quick service were looking up, wrong! After being seated, neither of the servers could figure out how to work the TV screen to get the Ravens game on, leaving the devoted fan in our party highly disappointed. Our orders were taken pretty quickly, at about 6:20. This is where things took a turn for the worst... Since we had 10 people in our party we were prepared to give our server both our drink and meal orders. He seemed very confident, a little rushed, but very kind. We were served our drink at about 6:45. We ordered 10 waters, 2 beers, and 1 glass of wine. Not difficult. Well we sat, and we waited, and we waited. FINALLY at about 730 the first few meals came out, 4 total. Fries were cold, sides and toppings were missing, and hungry waiting diners were sorely disappointed. About 10 minutes later the next 4 meals came out, of which fries were cold, avocados were browned, and sides were missing. Then we came to find out that the kitchen cooked 1 burger wrong and forgot the other(mine). As we waited for the those 2 meals and other began to eat, we came to find that all our 'medium-well' burgers were PINK! When I say pink, I mean way past rare and all the way to barely defrosted and still mooing. Absolutely disgusting! (See my pictures) Finally the last 2 came out, which you'd expect to be perfect by this point, but they were the rarest of them all. I didn't even eat my dinner. Finally, my friend decided to speak up and deal with the matter. The restaurant blamed it on a missing server, but last time I checked the servers aren't the ones cooking the food. And for the record, I was in the restaurant industry for 6 years and at a banquet of over 200 people we had bread out in 5, salad out in 10, meals out in 20. Granted we had like 10 servers, but that's still 20 people to a server, that's double out dining party. My friend was finally able to negotiate a deal with the hotel manager, after the restaurant manager had an attitude about the entire situation. As we left with comped and discounted meals, I noticed that others diners in the restaurant did not look pleased either. We were just happy to finally leave after spending 2 hours and 15 minutes in that restaurant and get on with our evening. Oh, and did I mention that it was my birthday? Happy birthday to me!

Good bar food. Tator tots with bacon cheese and ranch were a hit. As were the chicken wings. Adults and kids were happy. Happy hour 4-7 too. Hope to catch that one day. Guinness blonde on tap was pretty good.

Since it was New Year's eve, there were few patrons or maybe this is the usual scene? Don't know. But there are some comfy couches by the front in which a young couple with a baby was nursing. Another couple was just finishing up dinner and started to head out. We were the only two diners for about 20 minutes before another couple came in for dinner. There were also about two or three people at the bar. So basically a very quiet place. No one at the hostess stand, only a woman at the bar. She eventually sat us and took our order. Things were slow but not so slow that I would complain. I would surmise that most of the staff was off that evening. Food was also slow in coming so there might have been a small crew in the kitchen as well. We ordered the mezze appetizer. Nothing to rave about. It was just a plate with vegetables and hummus. We both got the wagyu burger and fries. The whole meal was quite decent. The meat was cooked to the correct temperature and the fries were crispy. It was quite filling for me. Maybe it was NYE but everything was quiet and nice.

It was a gorgeous day, the first Sunday in January, 2026. We arrived at 11:00 am, when they open, because we wanted to make sure to be ahead of the well documented Sunday brunch crowd. Yeiboh Kitchen does not take reservations (although they do reserve for special parties/events). Yeiboh Kitchen has an intimate outside patio dining area in front for that alfresco experience. When we entered, we were greeted warmly, and waited in comfy chairs for about 10 minutes in the cozy foyer complete with fireplace, before being seated. There was a mix of smooth R&B and mellow Hip Hop flowing on the PA system - and then the DJ set it up, and continued the vibe! The bar, open kitchen, and cheerful wait staff enhanced our anticipation of the food that was in store! We were not disappointed! I had the Jerk Honey Glazed Lollipop Lamb Chops AND Grits! It comes with 3 chops, cooked to your specification. (Medium for me) I was trying to scrape my plate for the last morsel of grits, and suck the Lamb bones, it was so good! The hubby ordered the Deep Fried Salmon and Grits, served with a savory Cajun cream sauce, scallion and tomatoes - and 2, fluffy scrambled eggs! He absolutely loved his meal! We also had the Deep Fried Biscuit Flight. Three biscuits - Salted Caramel Apple, Strawberry Cream, and Banana Pudding - perfectly fried in a way you would not even think they were fried, but for that ever-so light, crispy texture on the crust, and every bite - perfection! I cannot say which biscuit I enjoyed the most - I'll need to visit a few more times to make a determination! For beverages, we had coffee, and I ordered my (usual) mimosa. Our server, "Ms. Sunday," was extremely personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The Chef, Mr. Chris Davis, greeted us at our table during the meal, which was a wonderful, elegant touch! He explained about the fried biscuits (without giving away too much!)- and we complimented him on his culinary innovations in the kitchen! The Sunday brunch patrons began to arrive around noon, and by the time we left - close to 1:00pm, it was jumping! If you are in or near Baltimore, or plan to travel to the area soon, please put this restaurant on your list. Parking is at a premium, so if you can, arrive by Uber or Lyft. The experience will be well worth the trip!

The service was genuinely great--attentive without hovering--and the dishes (we mostly ordered off HH small plates menu) came out surprisingly fast, which every parent can appreciate. Already looking forward to coming back for happy hour and soaking it in a bit longer. See you soon! I only had a margarita off the HH menu and it tasted a little watered down, which is why I took off a star. I'll definitely be back with a full drink review!

After all, it'd been on our radar since Tom Sietsema's 2019 review in the Washington Post but, because it's located a long way from us, we hadn't made the effort. We're so glad we made the trip to Baltimore this past Thursday for what wound up being a magical evening. The staff was exceptional: Eliza and George greeted us warmly ("that's quite the hat!"). George led us to table #4...the perfect choice (thanks Eliza!) as I'd had my eye on that table thanks to web-based interior shots of Charleston. Jocelyn, our Server, was friendly, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable when it came to the daily menu, the evening's specials, and the daunting wine list. It's no wonder Charleston was a 2025 James Beard Foundation award winner for its "Outstanding Wine & Other Beverages Program." Thanks to Jocelyn's Busser, Dionicio, our water glasses were never empty and we had a constant supply of muffins, sourdough, and the best cornbread ever! He was the master of unobtrusive service. Ah, but whatabout the food?! Perfection. Champagne followed by Chef's welcoming sippable soup set the stage for a mix-and-match tasting tour. Potato & Beer soup, Lettuce & Beet salad, and Grilled Tenderloin for me and Zucchini Beignets, Lettuce & Beet salad, and White Truffle Fettuccine for her. All simply confirmed that Chef Wolf and her kitchen staff are at the top of their game. We finished the evening with our complementary desserts (Almond Pound Cake, Cashew & Dark Chocolate Vegan Cheesecake) and coffee. Even the chocolate Macarons, a parting treat, were delicious. Finally, a word about the room. "Calming" comes to mind. Never hurried. Conversation was easy. Very much appreciated nowadays where, even in upper tier restaurants, it's a struggle to hear your tablemates. All-in-all, a wonderful birthday evening made possible by Charleston Restaurant Baltimore.

My partner and I returned to Charleston for our annual Christmas dinner. While the food was…read moregenerally very good, we were a little less impressed with the service this year. The major hiccup we experienced was my gluten free lamb shank pasta being sent to the vegetarian sitting at the table next to us. Watching this unfold and the server's exasperated reaction was very awkward. That being said, the manager (or maitre d?)'s graceful handling of the situation thereafter was great. He told us what happened, played it off well, explained that it would be a bit of a wait for our next course as a result, and ended up comping all our wine. Really classy touch. However, even after the long wait for the pasta, it was ultimately under-salted under-seasoned and not impressive at all. As much as I appreciate the gluten free option, I wish I had just gotten something else especially after all that trouble! The rest of the service throughout the night was also oddly paced. We ordered less courses than last year (only three) but we were there for almost four hours. Tables around us who arrived after us were served their first courses before we even had a chance to order. We were asked to pick out a wine first before choosing our food and since we weren't sure what we were eating, we weren't ready to select a wine. Even just getting the food menu took a bit of waiting around. Our server didn't inquire about any food allergies either so it was tough making decisions when I wasn't sure what was gluten free - and this was an allergy that was noted in our reservation, too. At another point, I asked for a glass of red wine three different times until finally the maitre d grabbed it for me after the pasta debacle happened. As for the rest of my meal, the scallops and lobster soup were both yummy but not anything life changing. However, my boyfriend's lamb chop dish was very very delicious. The one bite I had, paired with the pomegranates, was heaven. By the way, they offer gluten free bread service too. Has the Charleston lost their touch after the recent James Beard press? I'm not sure but I do hope they step things back up again. You come to expect a little more from an institution like this, especially after being totally blown away last year.

I would have ordered it but it was strong and I had already gotten the crush, so I'll just have to come back for it. The other slushie was a coffee one and I'm not a huge coffee person, but if you like coffee, you'd probably like that. Children are allowed here until 7 pm I believe.
