Well, back from the cruise and REALLY not feeling the whole "cook our own meal" after being so…read morespoiled, we decided to venture out and try something new. I was tasked with phoning in the reservation (thankfully the meal went better than that debacle)and since we were dining early it wasn't an issue. First of all, there are two places in the property; the Tavern and 5 Fields pizza and beer. We dined at the Tavern. GORGEOUS garden lining the old farmhouse! We went in and were seated inside right away. As it was almost 100 today it was ideal seating. The decore is well.... different. Where we sat was a truck grill from 1928, and there was more of a sports motiff. (If you go and sit in the same room, let me know if you can spot the crooked pic!) Once again, my curse at remembering names of the servers has hit again which is a real sham because she was beyond AWESOME. She was VERY patient with my extremely frustrating mum which was nice. We both got this truly genius idea of an appetizer to start; a veggie boat with a ranch style dressing. Omg it was perfect. Warm day, cruciferous veggies, ice cold drinks. Heaven. Next came the burgers, she got the Tavern burger, I got the Charles City burger. The Tavern has cheddar cheese and bacon, the Charles City has bree cheese and this creamy mojo ajo aoli along with fried shallots....there is probably more but all I know is that I feel like an idiot never having triple creme bree on a burger before. I have to take a moment to also inform you that they make the BEST Cosmo outside of NYC. Perfectly blended and chilled, and just strong enough to celebrate a Friday night. Yowza! One.more thing. They tempted me with a scoop of their home made butter pecan ice cream. I just want to move in and become one with this place it was so good. I haven't had butter pecan this good in 50 years!! After this essay I guess you could say that I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. It's in a beautiful area, lots of parking, great food & ambiance. I couldn't find a single fault.

We ended up at the Salty Siren for two reasons, one, it was recommended by one of the guides at the Henricus Historical Park as being near the Farrar's Island historical marker (ancestors) and it was on the river. The view was gorgeous. We were promptly seated at an outdoor table overlooking the water. Our server, Jodi H., greeted us with a smile and offered to get our drinks and our calamari appetizer. It was excellent. Light, crispy, fresh with a few fried jalapeños for zing. The dip served with them was really good. I ordered fried oysters, which came with authentic hush puppies (which for this southerner means no sugar!) and I ordered the vegetable of the day (steamed broccoli) to sort of make up for the "fried". My husband ordered the grilled salmon. His salad was huge and the vegetables were so fresh that I filched some of his cucumbers. His salmon was amazing. It was perfectly cooked and it was so moist and tender. We will try to return if we are ever travelling this way again. Try The Salty Siren. Even if you don't go looking for the mile maker afterwards.

Crab cake sandwich, fresh oysters and cheesesteak were our choices and were definitely good choices. The service could not have been better. Prompt service and cheerful smiles. We will definitely be back. Thank you Salty Siren.

Want to go back and try more of their delicious food! It's not overly large inside so coming at an off time (right at 4) we were able to get a seat but I bet it can get busy! They do have outside dining so if it's not too hot or cold there is that option!

The restaurant was fairly empty, with only three other tables occupied, so we were surprised by the length of the wait. Our two canned Sapporos didn't arrive until about 30 minutes after ordering. The shrimp sandwich took approximately 45 minutes, and the Vang rolls arrived after about an hour. After waiting an hour, we were informed that the garlic shrimp for our garlic noodles was unavailable, despite it being part of our original order. Unfortunately, the Vang rolls were so salty that we couldn't finish them. Throughout the meal, our water glasses were never refilled, and there was little communication about the delays or unavailable menu items. After roughly 90 minutes of waiting, multiple delays, and learning that several items were unavailable, we decided to pay for what we had received the two Sapporos, the shrimp sandwich, and the Vang rolls, which came to about $70. Perhaps we visited on an off night, but the combination of the slow service, poor communication, unavailable menu items, and disappointing food quality made for a frustrating experience. Based on this visit, I don't see myself returning. +1 Vibe +0 Taste +0 Presentation +0 Service +0 Value

Nonetheless I ordered some boneless sweet chili wings with blue cheese ( which were good) and tried a zero proof cocktail, berry mule. 1/10 for the drink. It resembled the taste of cough syrup. During our meal, the manager was kind enough to give free tix to puttery (nothing was mentioned about the food or drink). Afterwards we headed down to the first floor to play. The games were really fun and the artistry was magnificent! Definitely a fun time for adults or children!

The first course is indoors and offers a variety of easier holes and some with more difficulty. The second course is outdoors and has tons of topiarys around that make for a great photo backdrop. There doesn't appear to be any real concrete theme which makes going to each hole exciting as you don't know what to expect. Everyone I interacted with was really nice and walked my friend and I through how to play. We ended up also eating upstairs and the food offerings were really yummy. We shared the soft pretzels as a starter which came with a delicious mustard sauce. I ended up getting their chicken sandwich as my main, I found the sandwich itself to be fried a bit too hard so I can't reccomend that but their fries appeared to be hand cut and those were absolutely delicious. Overall this place is a great spot for families, friends or I could even see this being a fun date spot. Its really a one stop shop with their restaurant and activities being in the same place. Highly recommend!

The menu also has so many food options, making it easy to find something for everyone. The food overall was great and very enjoyable. However, I would not recommend the brownie and chocolate sundae dessert. The brownie and cookie were cold and hard, which made the dessert disappointing. On the positive side, the carrot cake was huge and definitely worth sharing -- easily enough for 3-4 people. The service was excellent as well. Our waiter was very attentive throughout the meal and made sure everything was taken care of. Overall, Second Street American delivers great food variety, strong service, and a family-friendly atmosphere, with just a few misses on dessert.
