This is our go-to "I need some delicious beef rolls and dumplings NOW!" The beef rolls alone are why you go here. It's the perfect amount of sweetness on that crisped pancake... and the cilantro. Sigh of contentment. The dumplings never disappoint. Both boiled or fried... you can't go wrong. We unusually get the chives and pork. This place has a hole-in-the-wall feel to it. The portion size for the beef roll is larger than other places I've tried so it's shareable. For one order, it comes with 3 full rolls cut in half (6 pieces). 3.5 stars. This place has been a consistent noodle spot for many years but their quality isn't as good as it was in the past. Furthermore, they've consistently been increasing their prices and this spot is cash only so be prepared. The taste of their dishes are pretty legit and there's a decent variety of noodle and dumpling dishes. This restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating. There used to be more customers before the pandemic, but with the constant increase in prices and the gradual decline in quality, the customer base seems to be fewer than before. On my last visit, I ordered a beef roll and zhajiang mian, and I would recommend both these dishes. Their beef rolls are a staple and their zhajiang mian is well portioned with plenty of meat. Another one of their classics is their soup dumplings, which I also think is pretty good so I would recommend that as well. Decent food for the price. Beef rolls had a good flavor, but as you can see in the photo, the ends weee mostly dough and not meat/cilantro & green onion. The flavor of the beef broth was pretty standard for beef noodle soup, so it was fairly simple and good. Wish it came with more meat though since it only came with 3 small pieces of tendon and 3 small pieces of beef. The ox tail broth was okay, not as good as the beef broth but the ox tail itself was pretty bland and didn't taste like it was cooked fresh/maybe was sitting in water for awhile. Wow a lot has changed because of covid, aka their prices went up significantly! Also, still CASH ONLY. I've been here in the past with my family for dine in and I remember it being very tasty and a good bang for your buck. It was also cash only before as well. I ordered takeout, the beef rolls (previously $8.75, now $13.75!) and Dan Dan noodles with minced pork with hand torn noodles (previously $7.99, now $13!) As I was ordering, I was just hoping it had the same if not better taste than I remembered because I had to really think if I wanted to spend $30 on two items. I wish they had a takeout menu I could take at home but the worker said they have a QR code that you can see the menu. However, the prices on that QR code menu is drastically different in prices, so beware and expect to pay a lot more than what is listed. FYI they also stop takeout orders one hour prior to closing! Current hours are 11am to 10pm every day. As for the food itself, the Dan Dan noodles was way too salty for my liking today. The way it's packaged for togo was just a hot mess. The styrofoam box with the hand torn noodles, minced meat with sauce, and some cucumbers on top spilled all over the bag. I wished they packed the meat and sauce in a separate plastic container or something so then I can just put it on the noodles myself instead of having it drip in the bag. As for the beef rolls, in the past I remember it being tasty and it had a crispiness to it. Today, I was sadly disappointed. The beef rolls were soft with no crisp to it. It had the flavors, but also again a tad salty. I tried one piece of the beef roll in the car as soon as I received my order, so I can definitely say the lack of crispy exterior was not because I did takeout and it sat in the car. We've been coming to both this branch and the arcadia branch for years. I'd say this one is slightly better, only because the parking is easier, but I think the quality and quantity has been declining steadily over the years. Used to be my go-to for beef noodle soup and their signature beef rolls. The beef rolls have gotten more and more disappointing, it always feels like there's less and less beef within the rolls. You can see in the picture, I'm not even sure there were any beef in some of the pieces...and yet the price of this appetizer has increased very dramatically over the years... The noodle soup is still ok for the most part, but often the beef is too chewy and overcooked. Be aware if you order for beef and tendon, you'll get mostly beef. On this last trip we had beef tendon noodle soup only, and there were still a few pieces of regular beef in there. I had the dan dan noodles which were solid. It has the numbing spice, and comes with slices of cucumber and a lot of meat sauce. I hadn't been back to this place in years, but happened to be in the area for watching the 4th of July fireworks at Almansor Park. I wanted food in the area without walking too far to the park, so ended up here. Normally this would be my first choice for food around this block as it's an OG SGV establishment, but I was a bit worried with how this place would turn out given all the recent negative reviews. Tables are well spaced apart but no outdoor dining. At least it didn't seem to get very busy even for dinner time, as it looks like many people opted to do takeout when we were here. Food-wise, this place gets the job done. It meets a standard that I would come to expect of dumplings in the area. My friend had the vegetable dumplings. Strangely enough, when we asked about the boiled version they said they were out but did have the pan-friend version, but at least it was good. For myself, I got the pork xiao long bao. Overall, it was pretty tasty and they gave a good amount of ginger on the side. Only minor downside was that the skin was pretty sticky to the paper, so grabbing the bun required gentle work, otherwise it would rip. Service was lacking and felt understaffed, like needing to flag them down for everything. And because they were so busy, all engagement with staff felt rushed... such as when they yelled at us "CASH ONLY" across the tables when they saw my friend put down a credit card. I'm used to blunt service at Chinese establishments, but no need to yell. I really wanted to like the place still, and normally I don't let service factor too much into my overall rating especially at places like this. First time here! Simple but delicious! It looks like a typical chinese restaurant, but the quality of the good is 5 start. The quality of all dishes we got are on point! The hand cut noodle soup is so yummy, the noodle feels like home since it's so chewing but slippery, you know it's fresh made from the kitchen. the soup is very god. I don't think i've ever enjoy the texture of the noodle this much before, so highly recommend the "hand cut" noodle! steam pork buns are hot and juicy! I love it when the buns got juice inside. I dip then w those chili oil vinegar sauce! People tend to break the skin when scooping it from the pan, but that would miss the point of the yummy part. That juice is the key to the buns! How you should eat it is to bite the skin and suck the juice first! then dip the rest with the sauce! That's how Chinese eat these steamed pork buns. I find those cucumber pickled to be very refreshing both before and after the meal. Ok so plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside. Entering inside was mostly empty, nobody at front to seat us until a lady comes running from the back and let her know we will be eating in. The food was good. The noodles were extravagant. However, I did not like this service. The lady that helped us had some attitude, and I felt like she kind of tossed our cutlery and our straws on the table. She seems like we were bothering her. also, when it came time to pay, I gave her my card. They said they don't take cards for anything less than $60?! Point What! I've never heard of that. I said is there a manager I can speak with? She said our manager is the one who says we don't take cards. She asked me if I had cash. I said no. I told her here's the card you can take card. She took the card and ran my card with no issues. I understand that businesses don't like to write things down because with cash and can't be tracked when it comes to taxes and what not, but that was just ridiculous. Also known as the steamed mini pork buns, they are always delicious, fresh and juicy. This steam of steamed buns have broth inside, so be gentle when you pick it up and don't burn yourself when you bite into it. This is not Din Tai Fung level, but I never have to worry about a wait at a 101 Noodle Express. Hot Spicy Beef Noodle Soup with Hand Torn Noodles ($9.50) - Always pay more for those hand torn noodles, the slight difference is worth it! The beef is so tender and the broth is so flavorful and developed. The hand torn noodles are freshly made in house and they are the perfect amount of chewiness. This is my cousin's fav here!! Beef Roll ($9.50) - If you love the green onion/scallion pancakes, this is the green onion/scallion pancake with beef, onions and cilantro wrapped in. It is a generous portion and always filling. This local noodle house is a hidden gem. This place makes amazing beef stew noodle soup. Beef noodle soup is considered a national dish in Taiwan. Since I grew up in Taiwan, I know exactly what it should taste like. I would considered myself a picky and expert in this dish. It would take a lot to impress me. The perfect beef noodle soup must have savory and spicy broth, bok choy and most importantly the perfect, lean and tender braised beef.
