My friends and I decided to try the Mama Lu's in Alhambra as it recently opened. We arrived around 7pm and were seated immediately. After we ordered our food everything started coming out. We ordered xiao long bao, honey garlic pork chops, beef roll, green beans with beef, beef chow mein and pan fried pork buns. We liked all the dishes we ordered but thought the chow mein and pork buns were lacking flavor. They have condiments on the tables so you can add some of that to resolve the problem. I like how the xlb had thin wrapping and was filled with soup. The honey garlic pork chops were crispy and the sauce is addicting. The beef rolls were juicy and dripping in its own sauces. They have their own lot next to the restaurant and there is always street parking around the corner. We ordered 6 items since we were hungry but left with 3 things. Bill came out to be about $100.

Not sure what happened to Mama Lu's, but I was sorely disappointed with lunch today. The pancake around the beef roll was undercooked, and the Shanghai rice cakes were pale and also undercooked. The XLBs were disappointing as well. Everything came out cold. I don't think I'll be coming back. Quality control seems to have declined since their rapid expansion.

5/10/26 I called and placed an order for 5 serving of fried rice, I get there and I'm handed the tray on the left WITH "5" SERVINGS OF RICE I was in disbelief, I even ask where's the rest/are you sure that all of it, They said yes so I left. VERY DISAPPOINTED I got robbed!!! FIRST & LAST TIME!!!! I've always ordered 4 servings of rice and it ALWAYS came in the tray on the right. NEVER AGAIN MAMA LU's!!!!! I paid $89 EXPENSIVE

Lunar New Year is coming! Struggling to find a family spot that all generations and even your extended family will approve of? Mama Lu's has you covered!! Walking in and seeing the giant xiao long bao mural, we immediately had to order it and it was so fulfilling . Of course, I didn't forget my favorite French-style beef 法式牛柳粒, very juicy and done the Cantonese way. Need a carb that's more special than noodles or rice? The Shanghai rice cakes 上海炒年糕 are the answer . To complete the meal, the older generation always requests the string beans 乾煸四季豆 because no veggies means the meal isn't complete . IG: socalhkfoodies

I'm so glad this location tastes just like the MPK spot. Love the tea and peanuts they serve right when you sit down. The XLB were super juicy, and the sautéed string beans were served in a huge portion. I also tried the rice cake, which had the perfect chewiness. When I asked to box my leftovers, the worker boxed them up for me, which I appreciated. There's parking in the back, which makes it super convenient.

Similar to the other Mama Lu's other locations. This location doesn't have roast duck. The Garvey location has roast duck. The soupy dumplings always good. The Shanghai rice cake is lighter in color at this location. The steamed chicken with sauce is really good. The lamb with onions had ALOT of onions with alittle lamb. The fried chicken wings were the BEST! They were juicy, crispy, and tasty. The portions at this location seem smaller than the other locations. This location is really loud for some reason. I couldn't hear anyone when we talk med because the restaurant was so loud. Service is like any other Chinese restaurant. No eye contact and no smiles. Happy Mama Luing!

The spicy wontons are a must order, and the Thai tea. No fuss service, straightforward and efficient and the food comes out quickly and hot. Great for groups of 3+ for optimal dish sharing as the portions are large - most have 6 or 8 dumplings! Noticed they were doing a brisk takeout business as well. There is a narrow parking lot, but street parking in the surrounding is also available and plentiful.

I think this is a fairly new location, but this location on Main St, in Alhambra, is great! There's a small parking lot next to their restaurant as well as a small lot directly behind the place, with a rear door access that makes it convenient. Once we went in, we were seated almost immediately. The place has high ceilings and large glass windows on the Main St. side so you get a lot of natural light. The workers are very professional and prompt with their service. Everyone was working really hard to ensure all their guests were being taken care of. After ordering our dishes, the plates arrived and everything was fresh and hot off the pan. We ordered their signature steamed soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, beef wrap, just to name a few. Their tea was also light and flavorful. The tea had a hint of jasmine, which I'm not a fan of, but it was light enough to enjoy. I will come back to this place as it's conveniently located in Alhambra and has dishes everyone likes.

Loving the new location in Alhambra. Always a fan of Mama Lu's Dumplings House. They're known for their Juicy pork dumpling and other family style entrees. The juicy dumplings and pan fried dumplings are a must to order. Flavor pork fillings. It's absolutely the best. I tried their new item on the menu. golden shrimps. It's similar to walnut shrimps but with wonton chips. Sweet and Sour chicken is one of my favorite and go to. I love the sweet and sour sauce crispy chicken. This location is a lot bigger than the Monterey park Location. It can definitely accommodate large parties. And service is great and quick. I'm already seeing a lot of people coming in for dinner.

Definitely a great location for a regular hang out. Big tables if needed for a bigger social gathering. Food is always flavorful. Rice can be a bit dry, could be the long grain. The service is always nice and great place to chill after a long day at work. Definitely recommend!

I hate being a critic of Mama Lu's but this location has some work to do. The main reason I would come here is for their Juice Pork Dumplings so I always judge first by how well they do on it. - It was so disappointing that this dish took the longest to arrive and it wasn't good. We were basically about to finish our meal and cancel our order before it came out. - And as you see from my picture, they came sad and deflated. I tried to be optimistic that they were at least going to be juice but there was no soup in any of them. Maybe two had some extra liquid but that was it. Tried some other dishes like their beef udon, green beans, pan fried dumplings but maybe my favorite was the green beans. I'll give it another shot one day but currently I wouldn't recommend this location.

Great service, delicious food and reasonable prices. My friend and I decided to come here as an alternative to DTF and it did not disappoint.

This is the best of the Mama Lu's restaurants I've been to thus far. The wait staff is quick and responsive and the food especially tasty. I belief their seafood is the best prepared of the various entrees served and are large servings as well. Even the grandsons liked the food. I'm not sure, but I think they retained the previous chef, as the quality tastes very similar and food cooked to perfection. The whole atmosphere of the restaurant was very positive with great lighting and mural walls adorning the interior.

Last time I went about a month ago for dinner, there was only a few tables. This place is not as hot as the previous setup Jiang Nang Spring as this place is Taiwanese and not Shanghaiese. So no worries about seating.

(Expect 15 - 20 mins) Parking is abundant, since there are few businesses in this plaza. For starters, my friend and I shared the xiao long bao, popcorn chicken, and beef rolls. Our first item, the popcorn chicken, was divine - medium and fried to perfection, couldn't ask for better! The xiao long bao was next on the list, and these featured a more thick but still chewy skin. Unfortunately, two of ours were served "stuck together" which led to them breaking - sad! The last item, the beef rolls, were amazing as well. Not only is it a timeless classic, but the beef wasn't too dry. Between these tasty bites, we also shared a honey lemon green tea. My friend warned me about these mug sizes, and yes... one is probably enough for a table of four to share! This drink was super sweet, and it was definitely in need of dilution to be drinkable. Once your belly is full, though, good luck getting out! The space inside is fairly tight but nonetheless well worth a visit! Easily one of the best popcorn chicken in town!

My crew and I went on a Friday night, and even though it was very busy, we were seated fairly quickly. There were four of us, and here's what we ordered: chicken fried rice, Shanghai-style chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, and juicy pork dumplings. Chicken Fried Rice: It was soft and pillowy with great flavor, though I felt it could have used a bit more color. It looked a little pale, but it was still delicious. Shanghai-Style Chow Mein: This was perfect. The flavor was spot on, the sauce was well-balanced, and the noodles had the ideal texture. The ratio of noodles, vegetables, and meat was just right. Sweet and Sour Chicken: This was the highlight for me. My only regret is not ordering more to take home. The chicken was crispy without being overdone, and it was coated in that delicious sweet and sour sauce. Juicy Pork Dumplings: We were at a dumpling house, so we had to order dumplings. These did not disappoint. They were very flavorful, and the broth inside was rich and satisfying. We originally planned to order more dishes, but the portions were generous, and we ended up with just the right amount to leave satisfied. Overall, this place lives up to the hype. Baked Sole over Rice (Cream Sauce): This is one of my guilty pleasures. I think they hit par when it comes to this. You get a decent amount of fish, the cream sauce doesn't overpower the overall vibe of the dish, and the cheese is just the right amount. I think it'll fill up the average person. Seafood Tofu Hotpot (comes with white rice): Again, another dish that's difficult to improve outside of using better ingredients. They did enough to make it good while keeping it at a fair price point. It's a good mix of seafood, tofu, and vegetables, and the sauce was the right blend. Curry Beef Brisket Flank (comes with white rice): The wildcard of the restaurant. People who love curry would say that it's not spicy enough, and people who just enjoy the curry flavor without the heat will just be able to tolerate the heat level. The gamble comes from the meat to tendon ratio, which I feel isn't standardized. If you enjoy both, then it shouldn't matter. But as a beef enjoyer who is not that big on tendons, it's a gamble. Signature Fish Fillet (comes with white rice): It's the classic sweet and salty blend in most Chinese restaurants that I find addicting. This place has a more peppery feel to it. It's gonna be hard to eat a lot of it, but those bites before you're sick and tired of the flavor bomb will be worth it. French Style Diced Beef Tenderloin (comes with white rice): I'm not gonna lie. I've had this in far too many Chinese restaurants. I have a hard time differentiating between all of them. What I'll tell you is that the beef is on the peppery end, but it's super soft. If you love slightly undercooked onions and mushrooms, you're in luck. Egg Tofu with Enoki Mushrooms (comes with white rice): Another Chinese restaurant classic that I find impossible to differentiate, but never have I ever been disappointed when ordering this. I will tell you that this is one of the perfect dishes to order if you're dining with vegetarians. Crispy Salt & Pepper Fish Fillet: They weren't lying when they said salt & pepper. It's a very salty piece of fried fish, and the peppers they tossed in there have a decent amount of heat. I'd stay away from this. Crispy Shrimp Spring Rolls: It's the appetizer for the kids (or adults who are being introduced to Chinese food). I'd only get this if someone really wants it or wants to try it. Salted Egg Shrimp: Normally, salted egg _______ is a luxurious delicacy. It's heavily sinful, but also very good. Unfortunately, this place's version is missing something. It's almost like they forgot an ingredient when mixing the sauce, so the overall flavor profile isn't popping out. It's a shame, I was expecting more. Shrimp Fried Rice: Stock standard. It's good, the shrimp pieces are sizable, and it's a good option for people who won't want white rice (which is included in many of the dishes) Hainanese Chicken w/ Rice: Many restaurants get this wrong, mainly just by giving boiled chicken and white rice, then just giving the correct sauces. This place doesn't do that. They get the chicken right, they get the rice right, and they at least got the ginger and scallion sauce, which was good. Overall, a good dish. Hong Kong Egg Waffle: This is supposed to be a dessert, but they served it along with the other food. By the time we got to this, it was already cold. The taste was decent though. Service: Classic Chinese restaurant with better standards. You order, and they give you what you asked for. Don't expect much, and they won't disappoint. Ambiance: It's giving Hong Kong food court x street side dining kind of vibe. I think people who've been to Hong Kong will understand and appreciate the vibe, while those who haven't will just have to take my word for it.
