Went here for morning coffee. First of, what coffee shop opens at 10am. Asked for the gluten free muffin and was told the were out (and it was only 10:15am). Little boy at the counter says he just sold his last one earlier. Remember, this place opens at 10am. Delicious coffee and a raspberry chocolate scone. The scone was a great flakey texture that washed down beautifully with my coffee. It had just enough fruit and chocolate to add some sweetness but it wasn't overwhelming. Plus, I was very pleased with the COVID precautions. The front door is open and you walk up to a little stand, positioned about two feet inside the front door, where you pay. No one is allowed inside. I came out to Athens for a short, 2 week, visit from San Francisco and I am so happy to have found this place. I like to try out different roasters and this looked like the most quality oriented roaster in town. I stopped this morning for their public cupping and had a great time. I got there around 9:20am and thought I was going to miss it, but I lucked out and they decided not to start it till 10am today. As soon as I walked in they offered to make me a pour over of my choice and were very friendly. The Misty Valley caught my eye, so I went with that and I am extremely happy that I did. I enjoyed it so much that I'm going back later in the week to buy a freshly roasted bag of it. Their entire operation seems to take place in one room, so I got to watch them roasting while I chatted with the employees and waited for the cupping to start. They were very friendly and I am looking forward to coming back. I've only been here a short time but in my opinion they roast the best coffee in Athens. I highly recommend stopping by and checking them out. The only downside is that they aren't a full coffee shop, just a roastery. Hopefully one day they can have a coffee shop location. Until then, this is a great place to come pick up a bag of delicious coffee beans and participate in a cupping. read more

I love how secluded it is literally on the other side of the tracks. growing up in athens there was never a reason to come back here so im glad something is making its way this way and sprucing up the place a bit. it has a huge hipster grungy vibe and the coffee is probably the best ive ever had. i only give it 4 stars because it seems like they specialize in bulk coffees (because obvs it is a roaster) but also i felt a little weird ordering just one cappuccino to drink here. it doesnt have a coffee shop vibe is what i mean. which is fine because like i said they do bulk coffee soooooo well. the best. and they dont have a lot of milk variety too. so yeah... doesnt seem like a place to hang out and study or whatever. and parking is a gravel lot read more

I wanted to like it....athens has such amazing food and restaurants and you cannot beat the prices. I am constantly amazed when I visit and can get a $3 coffee vs. $5-$10 coffees in Atlanta. The space is very well kept, however I did not care for the brew. It seemed to overpower the milk and flavoring I added to my coffee. In my opinion a good roast works well with milk rather than working against it. The service was a bit slow and I noticed I got my drink before the people in front of me. Giving it two stars because of the clean and authentic atmosphere they created, however unfortunately I am just not a fan of the brew. read more

Great coffee. Good atmosphere. It is made in house so I can see why it's expensive, because it's good quality. They also offer coffee-centric classes, which I personally haven't been to, but I would like to go. The baristas are always friendly. Although I love the coffee, I try to go only once in a while. Three always offer seasonal specials. For example, now they have a lavender latte, which is amazing. I wish it could stay on the menu permanently . They have local pastries that always pair well with their coffee. They also collaborate with the get comfortable campagne, where they will have either nedza's or the farm cart offering bits to eat on select sundays. The coffee shop itself is usually crowded, so it's not the ideal study spot. If you like studying in coffee shops, I would recommend getting a coffee to-go! read more

One of my favorite coffee shops in Athens. 1000 Faces Coffee does everything right when it comes to coffee. They roast and grind the coffee beans in house and the freshness of their coffees and espressos is truly noticed. In addition to wonderful coffee, they also serve kombucha and pastries. My personal favorite is their classic latte (they even have almond milk for my vegan and lactose-free friends) and the cherry tart. For those who like to brew at home, they sell their espressos and coffees and will grind them fresh for you. read more

Cool coffee spot in Athens. I stopped in while driving back to FL from Northern GA. The atmosphere was nice and open. It was cool to see the coffee roasting process through the open windows. My first experience at 1000 Faces was delightful. They obviously care about the quality of their product, the space is delightful, and they draw an interestingly eclectic crowd that could only be found in Athens. Today, however, we had a jarring experience. I understand that businesses have operating hours. While we were lost in conversation (a reunion of friends from 25 years past), closing time (3 p.m.) came without our notice. That didn't last very long as the barista posted 'Closing Time' by Semisonic - at an aggressively loud volume. Not satisfied with club level volume, escalation became part of the experience as the barista steadily increased the volume in short increments. Here are some other, more service-based options for notifying your customers of impending closure: 1) When we ordered the pour overs at 10 minutes to closing time, a polite, "Thank you - you know we're closing in 10?" 2) Stepping over to the table at 3:00 with a similarly pleasant message. The value of the excellent $4.00 coffee was somewhat lessened by the service experience. Service should be on a par with a fine product. read more

Great little local coffee joint. Such a mix of clientel - college students, suits picking up a cup to go and casuals talking business. I had a special latte with an autumnal blend of spices and my companion had a seasonal tea. If you are looking for a quick pick me up...move on to Starbucks as the crafting of the beverages took some time, but we had the time and enjoyed the ambiance while reviewing a meeting we had just left. This will be an odd review. More about the facility and knowledge of baristas than the beans themselves. I drink dark roast coffee exclusively. Pour over, French press, or brewed in a high end machine. My wife and I go through about 5 lbs of beans every month that I purchase at another local grinder. I like the lower acidity and prefer a bean with chocolate undertones. 1000 faces does not offer any dark roast beans. I had an iced coffee which was perfectly fine. On the positive side. Knowledge of barista was great. They explained why they don't offer a dark roast bean. I disagree with their thinking, but that's ok too. Products available for purchase - they sell great coffee making products! Best selection in town. Ready for the awesomeness of a Technivorm Moccamaster coffee pot? You can get one here! I had the most incredible experience today at 1000 Faces Coffee and had to write a review about it. First off, April and Carmen are barista legends and they should both be awarded gold stars. I am very particular about my coffee and my selection of coffee shops to visit. This one caught my eye on Yelp and did not disappoint. Upon entering, both April and Carmen were very engaging. I was about to ask for recommendations since it seemed like they had a lot of unique handmade syrup when one called rosemary caught my eye. The funny thing is this syrup is not usually standard at the coffee shop but they said they would be happy to make a latte out of it. I told them how I once went to a place that did a Rosemary latte with an orange twist and it was unfortunately only a seasonal drink so I haven't been able to have it again. They said they would love to experiment and try to recreate that combo for me. The espresso was so smooth and their rendition of the seasonal drink I tried before was top notch, their version was even better! I would say the only bad thing about this place is that it isn't in California so I can't visit it every day. Do yourself a favor and try this place out. read more
