It is a good location for downtown Athens on a Sunday morning. The counter staff promptly greeted us. We ordered coffee plus a pastry for each. They served it right up. Good coffee and very good prices for cups of coffee and other drinks. The staff is friendly, but extremely busy while I was there for a football game. It is an eclectic place - way too much going on to see everything. There was even a live radio show from the shop. If you're in the area and haven't been here, I suggest stopping by to check it out. They have more drinks than coffee - smoothies and such. If you have the little ones with you, you may be interested in knowing about the ice cream shop next door. We visited UGA for a college tour today, and of course we stopped by an Athens Jittery Joes. It's cute inside, small but cozy and welcoming. The barista was kind and made our drinks perfectly! I got an iced americano and my son got an iced dirty chai. Both drinks were good! They are well stocked with coffee beans too and I almost bought some because I love the cans they come in. Excellent iced coffee, paired with yummy pastries and a phenomenal staff makes stopping at Jittery Joe's a must do when in Athens, Georgia. If our schedule would have allowed a slow start to the day, we would have absolutely sat in the coffee house for a peaceful start to the day. The colors used in the space create a welcome and friendly space. Beautiful artwork is displayed on the wall and cute wooden crafts are for sale as well. We were so excited to have our food and drinks that I forgot to photograph them but got a few cute photos of the space while I waited for our order. As iced coffee fans, we were very pleased with the entire experience and plan to have Jittery Joe's on our must visit list every time we come to Athens. I wish I'd remembered to ask the names of those who greeted us upon arrival and made our coffees as they were an integral part of falling in love with this place! As a new UGA parent, we even purchased some "Attack the Day" - K cups to bring home to California. Can't wait to relive the entire experience! read more

My friends and I came here right before dinner, and I was surprised they were still open. Luckily it wasn't too busy - despite being sorority rush weekend. I ordered a lavender mint matcha latte, which was a seasonal drink. I also got my regular coffee shop pastry, a butter croissant. The latte was amazing, the croissant was pretty good as well. The barista warmed it up for me as we left the store because she had to close. Hmmm. I wasn't fond of Jittery Joe's even when I was in college, but I wanted the bf to experience the coffee here so I wandered inside. They obviously were inexperienced baristas as they had no clue what I was talking about when I ordered off the special menu. They both starred at the menu and then just suggested a simple macchiato as that was the closet thing. The size of this thing was sad as it looked like the extra small frapp size. The bf's choice of a reg house blend was safe. He was given a cup and directed to a station with 3 coffee choices to choose from. While in Athens, I was looking for a local coffee shop to work and have a zoom meeting. The location was small and cute, with enough seating and plugs by the wall. Perfect place to work. This location is across the University of Georgia. I am sure it is busy during the school season. I stopped by during the Summer season, and it was not busy. The staff was friendly. The coffee was not out of the norm. Their pastries were dry too. Overall, I recommend this place if you are looking for seating, free wifi, and electric plugs.; not necessary for their coffee. read more

Love love love Any jittery joe's location. Their coffee is mostly locally sourced so you know you're getting good stuff. My favorite thing to get is the iced vanilla chai latte. Whatever powder or other ingredient they use in this drink is basically crack for me. Staff are super helpful with choices and they also have tasty treats. I'm staying at UGA for a week and am honestly so happy I found this little coffee shop. It has such a cool coffee shop vibe and loved everything about it. The service was great, our barista made conversation and knew all the things on the menu in detail. Overall the feel is pretty chill and just like any coffee shop you have people studying and just doing their own thing. You can tell the locals love this place by how comfortable they are here. One girl left all her belongings while going to the restroom, as a Miami native I was shocked when I witnessed this. Lol The flavor of coffee is SO. GOOD. I ordered an iced latte and can't wait to get another one tomorrow. I also love the fact that it was pretty artsy. It made me feel like I was in Austin, Texas for a sec. 10 stars to Espresso Royale Caffe - the name doesn't give it justice. It sounds so blase, so normal, so boring - but it truly, really isn't. [OK I am totally biased because I love mom and pop coffee shops and cute little non-standard Starbucks style places, and this had that. And being from a far away land lacking these sorts of places, only made me appreciate it even more.] Check out the picture I posted!! Yes, that is my Vanilla Latte and look how cutely she decorated it. My barista took her time and dedication to turn my latte into a piece of art, and it was tasty too. So besides the coffee, they have a HUGE collection of desserts too. I really enjoyed my Banana Chocolate Bar that took me a few days and a few extra people to help me finish, it was so huge. And this place is packed, parking is ridiculous on Broad street depending what time you go.... but so worth the trouble. A local's and a college student's favorite alike for years and years, it's comforting to this UGA alumna that Jittery Joe's is still around on the Athens scene. I love being able to fill my cup with some Joe's goodness each time I return to Athens for a visit. While my taste in coffee has changed since I was an undergrad, Jittery Joe's has also evolved to a more diverse menu that offers more than just basic coffee or sugary frou-frou drinks. You might be met with a long line or varying degrees of attitude from the baristas, but your drink will be made efficiently and correctly, and you won't spend too much coin. I wouldn't recommend this location of JJ's for your more intense studying sessions (head to Iron Works just north of downtown for that - much more space), but this corner spot with out-front parking will satisfy your AM/PM coffee shop needs, while also being a purveyor of fine in-house baked goods (the Oatmeal Raisin cookies and Pumpkin Oat Bars are awesome). Choose from a huge selection of coffee roasts, herbal teas, dairy and non-dairy milks, and even some longstanding unique drinks with equally-unique names, such as the Crackaccino, which is a 4-shot espresso-based drink, or their spicy Mayan Latte, sweet-n-intense Cubano, or a classic latte or Americano. What's also cool is that you can check out the chalkboard menu behind the cash register to see each employee's beverage of choice, which is sure to inspire additional inspiration if you need a break from the routine cold-brew or cup o' joe. If you're not into coffee or tea, they also sell a refrigerated selection of Atlanta-based Arden's Garden fresh juices and bottled water. Each Athens coffee shop has it's pros and cons. ERC is the place I go for tea. I'm also very fond of their wide variety of freshly brewed coffee and the fact that if you bring your own cup/mug they call it a refill and its ONLY ONE DOLLAR! Their chia is excellent. Their espresso, ironically considering the name, is their downfall according to my personal taste. The employees are great. Especially the morning crew. I know them all by name, and no matter how long the line, they'll get you in and out. It's a great place to study, but also inviting for catching up with friends. read more

I love ERC. It became my favorite place to study when I was in grad school, especially as the 5 Points Jittery Joe's got more and more crowded. Plus it's always fun to run into lots of friends when you're downtown "studying" and "working." My drinks there have been fabulous! The people that work there are courteous, prompt, and friendly. The drinks are whipped up in a jiffy, and certain beverage choices mean fun little accessories. (A tea for here means your own silver tea pot, cup, and saucer. More hot water needed? No problem. A cafe au lait can last awhile, as they are more than generous with their milk and coffee servings.) Unlike some coffee spots, the pastry case, condiment area, cream containers, and syrup pumps are always clean-looking. Maybe that's due to their constant flow of customers, or maybe they're just better and keeping clean. Who's to say? In any case, I dig it, AND like how they are in keeping with the other non-Starbucks coffee shops in town in that they sell pastries and snacks from local bakeries and restaurants. Jittery Joe's sells my most favorite chai tea in all of the land and every time I drink a chai from anywhere else, I am always disappointed because the bar is just so high. Jittery Joe's has fairly strong tasting coffee. It is far superior to chain stores and the beans are roasted locally in Athens. They have really good specialty drinks like the frosty joe, peppermint mocha and my favorite, the chai tea latte. Also, if you bring your own cup they will "refill" your drink for only $1. Amazing deal. In recent years the menu has expanded to include several savory food options like hummus and pesto sandwiches in addition to the basic breakfast foods. The other all star item at Jittery Joe's is their granola. I'm not typically a big granola person, but theirs is really quite excellent. The best part about this Joe's location is the drive through. The employees always have something funny to say when they are taking your order. If you pay with a credit card, they get you to sign a receipt which is a little odd and cumbersome for a drive through. The convenient location makes it perfect for grabbing a coffee on the way to campus or on your way out of town. Jittery Joe's is a superstar local business. They facilitate coffee fundraisers and can be seen sponsoring local events weekly. Strongly encourage getting your caffeine fix from a local spot like Jittery Joe's over a big chain. read more

Call me a hermit, but I don't see the reason to study here. During the semester this place gets packed! If I were studying there no work would get completed. Sure enough I had to meet a study group at ERC. We got there early, before the rush and I ordered a coffee. At one point in my life, '07, i was a huge coffee drinker. This coffee wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible. Funny if you want really good coffee I recommend two places, the nearby expensive Starbucks, or head to McDonalds. A friend ordered a few bakery items and they were decent. If this is the place to gather and study in a packed location like the SLC on finals week, then so be it.
