Awesome place to get some nice coffee (and muffins) on campus! Not to mention convenient, since you can just drop by while walking to class (or while studying in the MLC itself). Their black coffee is surprisingly good, and doesn't taste like that burnt nonsense you get at Starbucks usually. I'd put Jittery Joe's coffee up there alongside Dunkin' Donuts and Panera Bread in terms of coffee taste. Do note that the lines become unbearably long between classes. You'll have to try and get your cup of caffeine during off-hours to avoid the lines. read more

The muffins.. the banana nut muffins should be the reason you visit this establishment.. oh yea and the coffee. have never had a bad experience and any location and i have been to a few. this Baxter St location is convenient, drive thru moves smoothly, baristas are always friendly and the service is quick and polite. the inside decor is brown and orange but hey it's their color scheme and it's coffee lol They tables and seating areas of you want to study or work and the background noises aren't overpowering. a go to for fast and nice service. read more

The barista's here SUCK. I wish I could review a 0. They have lines of customers and make them wait by putting up a sign that says "brb- baristas". They stood up only 2 times to tell customers that they were on a dinner break since they have a four hour shift. THEY HAD LINES OF PEOPLE and their break was over 30 minutes. Not to mention the cruel words they would speak about every other customer after they had ordered and left. What kind of people did this place hire? Whoever the manager is needs to do a surprise walk in to see how their employees are acting. Actually so sad to see. A custodian walked up to the register and told the young ladies sitting on the ground that they have customers waiting for them and they replied with "we know" without so much as batting an eye or even getting up to tell the customers that they're on a break. 100% not worth the price. Went today and spent $6.45 on a matcha that tasted like water and a dust of matcha. A few weeks ago, the barista made my chai tea latte hot when I asked for iced, and when I asked her if she would mind remaking it (I rarely ever do this, but it was a warm day and I hate hot drinks) She just poured the hot drink into ice and watered it down. $8 for a watered down drink because the barista was too lazy to remake it? I was the only person in line as well. Pathetic, given the fact their drinks cost an arm and a leg, and still taste like shit. read more

So. I'm surprised. This place acts like a big chain, but as far as I know Jittery Joes isn't that big. This is the Jittery Joes in the SLC (SLC forever! Forget MLC!), and the prices are just about on par with Starbucks. Why does it seem that coffee truly is black gold? Seriously. I might do better drinking gold instead of coffee, at least that might give me better indigestion. The lines are always HORRIBLE during the school year so forget getting to class on time, if you want coffee. It just isn't going to happen. While the people are friendly, I would be too, if I was handing people a slip after they use their card that includes a line for a tip. Okay... people.. time to get serious. You just spent 2 minutes making me a coffee, which costs 3-4 something (I only like frozen coffee) you probably make at least minimum wage (which is now 7 something) and you want me to give you a tip?! *le sigh* I hate, hate, HATE it, when stores do that! I than feel obligated to give you a tip, which when you think about it... you spend 2 minutes making me a coffee, while a waiter still makes LESS THAN MIN wage. (like 2.50 an hour) So say you see 50 people in an hour, and half of them give you a dollar tip... that's 25 extra dollars in your pocket. For doing your job....wow....thanks. I'd heard about this place, and by complete chance stopped off to grab a moment of quiet before a Georgia Lakes Society meeting in Athens. I can see why Jittery Joe's is a local favorite. Very earthy, comfortable, and quiet. Lots of people were making use of the free wifi. Staff seemed very fast and efficient. I kinda wish I'd had longer to hang out. Perhaps next time... read more

HORRIBLE COFFEE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. Went to buy a PB&J today that was priced at 2.99 on the package, but the cashier rang it up as $4.99. When asked about the price difference, she proceeded to rudely say 'that's just what it is in our system' without even bothering to even look into why that was. I MEAN WHO THE HELL PAYS 5 DOLLARS FOR A PB&J?!? She then went on to ignore me and asked the customer behind me what she would like since I was clearly not important enough for her time. Really upsetting since I've given business to this Jit Joes ever since my Freshman year. WILL NOT BE GOING BACK! GO TO STARBUCKS IN TATE INSTEAD!! read more

I realize that the previous reviews are pretty old, so responding to them might not count for much at this point, but I feel like something should be said. I guess I'll start with the fact that I previously worked for this company and was also a 'barista' for the location in the SLC. For the most part, I completely agree with the complaints on here, but I think a few things should be set straight. 1. Coffee prices: I would have to agree and say that coffee has certainly reached some sort of bizarre gold-standard the way the market goes today, but remember, it IS consumer/caffeine fueled. Jittery Joe's, painted as your all-around smiley, well-meaning local coffee shop is no stranger to business strategy. I'm not sure how often you frequent other places selling premium roasts and crafted drinks around Athens (Walker's, Trapeze/Highwire, what used to be ERC) but the price gaps are appalling. For specialty drinks (and good bit of money really does go into each), there are anywhere from $1-2 price gaps between the same size of the same drink. To put it into perspective, a SMALL hot mocha at JJ's and a LARGE hot mocha at Walker's are both $4. That's obscene. To be fair, Walker's main revenue is through alcohol and other things, but the price jump is still pretty ridiculous. All of this said, I think I should bring up the difference between quality of drinks. Since this is about the SLC shop, I'll mostly restrict it to the drinks you'd receive there. Luke-warm, poorly mixed, too-foamy, blah blah the list goes on for why you didn't like your drink at any coffee shop. The list here is particularly long and outstanding, but so is that line you crawl through expecting anywhere from a drip refill to an individually blended dessert each day. As much of a hassle as it seems to have to wait while a cashier slides the Bulldogbucks card your parents (or hey, maybe you!) just loaded with $500 through a machine, plus the additional .2 seconds- 7 minutes your drink took behind 12 others, I can assure you the same rate of business at almost any other place would never get you to class down the hall. For this reason, yeah, the drinks kinda suck sometimes. Do the two dozen sorority girls behind you ordering skinny vanilla lattes care? Nope. And you probably don't really care how long your drink takes in front of theirs either. At the end of the day though, everyone is in way too much of a hurry to go someplace less crowded or even make their own, far more affordable coffee. You're paying for caffeine convenience, and guess what? The prices won't go down if you keep coming up to that counter. The last thing, and perhaps most maddening, is just where is your money going? Definitely not to the baristas busting their butts at all hours to make your drink in time. Do you really think anyone working in that place picks the prices to leech money from the student body exclusively for their own benefit? I'll tell you no one works there because it's the #1 place they'd like to be and they just loveeeee Jittery Joe's. Let's set this equation straight: multiply '2 minutes making me coffee' by a few hundred everyday, subtract the fact that no employee is trying to rob you of '3-4 something' you chose to spend anyway, and multiply it by the humiliating fact that NO ONE there (as a normal barista) gets paid 'at least minimum wage'. As for HALF of 50 people in an hour tipping a dollar? Please. I don't know if you noticed, but the SLC is full of students. The only people (pottentially) tipping are professors, people with service industry jobs, friends/ regulars, and anyone taught to tip or who feels pressured by the cashier breathing down their neck (I'll apologize on their behalf, by the way. Hounding for tips IS obnoxious). Oh, and split that dollar 3-4 ways with a tip average of .50. Maybe that seems like a lot, but I promise nothing near '25 extra dollars in your pocket' a day. Don't expect that dime raise that even the most frugal of corporations toss your way every 6 months. Wonder why baristas there have smiles glued on even while you ignore the fact they said hello, continued talking loudly on the phone, order something with the 14 most complicated and time-consuming substitutions, pay with the money your parents toss by the bundle into hands that have never seen a day of work, wipe your nose with the card it's loaded on, rip the receipt trying to sign so forcefully, and fail to hand it to the cashier or say thanks? Hm. Can't imagine any employee needs the cash to pay for school, rent and food. read more

I used to come here a lot between classes, but I actually haven't been in a VERY long time and you know what, I don't miss it. Noooo sir. Honestly, there's no reason to make any effort to come to this one unless you're stuck on campus all freaking day and dying of sleeplessness blahblahblah... In that case, you probably could use a dose of caffeine or a cookie. It's convenient then since it's right at the SLC. Anyway, like J.D. B. mentioned, payment time does get pretty uncomfortable because the cashier is literally two inches from your face, obviously peering down at what you're scribbling on the receipt. I don't want to give a tip, but I feel bad, so I try to hurriedly write a number that isn't easily legible - that way, they can't immediately tell how much I've just tipped them. Whatever. Drinks are not that great here; I've had the hot and cold ones, and they're both mediocre, but what you really need to stay away from are those cold fruit juices (don't remember what they're called...) because those tend to be on the icky side. Some "baristas" are better than others. Last semester, the guys in the morning/afternoon were better than the girls in the evening. Just sayin`. read more

I love Joe's turtle coffees. This place is the bomb. It is a nice break from corporate coffee.

I visited this location a few days ago with my mother-in-law and it was really nice experience. I have never been to this location before (i usually go downtown or to the eastside). The girl working was very nice and understanding a new customer. We had multiple transactions and the girl working couldn't have been better. read more
