Hendershot's Coffee is a unique place. What makes it unique? * In addition to serving coffee along with some food items, it's full bar and has all of your booze groups covered. * It hosts live music, and not just a guy or gal playing an acoustic guitar. We want for a comedy show that was great. One of the nice things about Hendershot's is in my limited experience the shows start at 7:00 p.m., which means it's totally doable on a "school night." My suspicion is it is townie's place. When we went, I did not see any UGA kids. In other words, it's a place for grown ups for the most part. Pro-tip: Get there early for an evening show. Parking can be a challenge with three great restaurants more or less adjacent, and the best seats for shows fill up fast. Cheers! read more

The only nearly coffee place that's open at 8AM on a Saturday. I was the only patron in the place for a while until a large group of runners came by. I guess this is their after run meeting spot. Decent coffee. Beautiful presentation. I really like the area. Lots of outdoor seating. read more

If you like espresso shots or alcohol shots, this is probably your jam! This is however, not mine! When you ask for extra sweet, because it's offered and I'm sure we paid for it when we paid $19 for 2 "coffees", but there is definitely NO sweetness to this "latte". It was supposed to be a dark and white mocha latte with 3 shots and "extra sweet". And the large cup was only half full! Where is the rest of my LARGE latte? My wife's iced whatever is ok, but feels like they forgot the sweetness for hers as well and the aftertaste is burnt coffee. Staff was there. Can't really say much more about them. It's Athens! It's a bar, clearly. It is not where I will be returning! Again, if you like unsweetened espresso, at a dark bar vibe place, this may be for you, otherwise, I don't recommend. *gave 3* because I don't want to take away from the fact that it's prob a good place for what it is, just not for us. Hendershots was a great spot to grab a morning cup on a recent weekend visit. We stopped in on a Saturday morning, and enjoyed a couple of lattes from their speciality menu. We also capped our visit off with an order of decadent friend beignets, dusted with ample powered sugar. This place seems very representative of Athens in general... friendly staff, slightly run down building, adequate furnishings, great place to see a wide variety of musical performances, quirky art and strong sense of community. Occasional events (ie monthly salsa dancing) can be packed while mornings are mellow, and everything in between. Their breakfast burritos are tasty and the "MacHenderGriddle" croissant sandwich is delicious and filling. The coffee is always good. At night there isn't much food left except pre-packaged cheese plates (better than average) and occasionally a cookie. The bar serves standard stuff and a few unique cocktails. I recommend the Foxy Lady mocktail with spicy ginger ale! read more

I love this place. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. I usually come here and sit in the courtyard when it's nice out or stop in for a tea or coffee. I don't remember which tea it was, but there is a delicious purple iced tea that they have that I LOVE. Always my favorite coffee shop turned bar after hours to visit when I'm in Athens. This particular weekend, after a disappoint Georgia loss to South Carolina, I wanted to check out this place that was far from the chaos of downtown Athens. It's definitely more of an Athens towny restaurant that's great to have group meetups, see live music, comedy shows, etc. This particular day when I went, there was a Jazz show. I didn't want to attend the show, but they allowed people to sit outside and you could still basically hear the Jazz from the courtyard seating. It was very pleasant! For my drinks I ordered a Guinness stout which was poured a little wrong, so I had to wait for it to settle for about 5 minutes before I could drink it. I also ordered the Angry pirate which was a chai latte with rum, but the drink was a little too strong for my liking and tasted like it only had a hint of chai in it. Overall solid experience, but I would maybe recommend their coffee drinks over their cocktails! read more

I heard this coffee place had grrat music at night. I was only in town for a week or so working a job, so when the weekend hit, I wanted somw good music vibes! To my surprise, there was a ten-piece Brazilian band playing! I love Brazilian culture and music, and have spoken Portuguese for a long time. I sang along with tunes that I knew, and it felt great. They even had a special on the Brazilian cocktail called a "caipirinha". That translates to "little hillbilly". It is delicious, but the is no mixer in it, so watch out. They used a high grade cachaça to make it too. Most bars that have this drink use the cheap stuff, because Americans mostly donmt know this drink. It was nice to see that they upgraded and did not kill you on the price. I drank two of them (or three), tapped my feet, clapped my hands and sang my heart out. Would not even given one star after what we experienced there. Our 18 year old son just committed to the US military. We visited to see a local bluegrass band perform. They were decent, at the end they became very aggressive on the fact that this was the place that "their Stacey Abrams" spoke. What a joke, keep politics out of your business. They haven't learned the lesson to keep your mouth shut & perform. By the way, before you open our boarders to all immigrants, do you vet them to ensure they are safe around our children Hendershots?? I enjoyed coming here before Covid for some of the weekly local musicians' shows. My favorite drink here is the kombucha. After Covid, this place has the same great spirit. I personally drink the Cubano con Leche the most and sometimes drink the Kombucha (little pricy). Open mic night on Mondays and Jazz on Thursday. What a cool space! 10:30am on a Thursday morning, very chill. Bookshelves, some comfy chairs. Day old blueberry muffins-DELISH! The chocolate chip cookie was amazing. Coffee was good. We got the Cubano and the RedEye. Wish there was cream instead of milk for the coffee. Wanted to sit outside, but they allow smoking. Gross. The barista was super kind and really knowledgeable. This was an absolute wonderful start to our trip in Athens. We came here on a Thursday night for a late dinner with jazz/salsa music. They had a live band which was really enjoyable. By the time we left there were couples and strangers all around salsa dancing in between the tables. This place has the feel of a hipster coffee shop by day and a hidden gem bar by night. I had the portabella burger with all of the free fixings and I added pesto with a side of olives and fetta. I had them make me up a cocktail which includes whiskey honey and lemon. They did okay, but I can't really blame them since the bar tender had never made it before. Then I had a glass of Malbec from Argentina. The atmosphere here was so interesting. It was filled with people studying, young couples on dates, and middle aged people here for the music. The general vibe is letting loose and relaxing. If I went to UGA this would probably be one of my regular stops. read more

This place has a cool atmosphere, a great selection of beverages, and helpful, friendly staff. It is always fun trying new coffee shops when you are traveling, and this place did not disappoint. I was curious about their nitro cold brew (which is still a pretty rare thing) so the barista let me try it before buying. It was delicious, as a result of a good coffee and a well calibrated tap. The decor includes local art and a variety of entertaining old ads, such as an awesome Billy Dee Williams "Colt 45" sign. Great place for coffee and music. They have a wide variety of music, great coffee and a full bar. I've been going for years and love it. The only negative is that the parking used to be free for the Bottleworks but they recently made it a pay lot. This isn't Hendershot's decision, just the Company that manages the bottle works. Nevertheless I'm sure it's going to cost them business. The first hour is free but you still need to put a credit card in even if you're staying less than an hour. Sorry, I'm not giving my credit card for a "free" hour. Sorry to say I'll be going less because of that. read more

A hidden gem in Athens - perfect for studying in the morning/afternoon and hanging out at night. A fun environment and good vibes all around. The outdoor patio is also great!
