My daughter, who goes to UGA, recommended coming here for a quick drink before driving home. It was Labor Day so we thought most of the students would be away, but when we entered the restaurant there were no seats available on a hot day other than outdoor seating. All the students were seated with their computers obviously doing homework with no intention to leave anytime soon. Not a good place to be if you want comfortable seating inside. Expect a lot of students hanging around. Staff was not exactly friendly either. When I asked for a Wi-Fi passcode they just handed me a slip and said nothing. My husband ordered the lemon freeze and it was OK, nothing special. read more

Wow I love this place. I have never been to a coffee shop that was so perfectly a coffee-shop vibe. The used books for sale, the smell of fresh ground beans, and people quietly typing reading chatting. The whole place made me want to curl up and read a good book. I had the mexican mocha which was great, tell them to make it extra hot. I went back another day (went there about three times in a three day trip) and had one the the steamers with peppermint. I had never had that and it was sooooo tasty. Bought a jar of ethopian blend coffee, and that too was great. Love this place!!!! read more

Used to be 100% better. Ingredients from scratch. The prices weren't hiked up on a consistent basis. The downtown location smells like garbage. Maybe it's changed in the year since I quit going there but I'm not going to give short-sighted business practices the chance when there are other choices. Ordered an iced coffee and a chocolate chip cookie, which were very reasonably priced, and tasty. Came here on a recommendation. The girls behind the counter were super sweet and accommodating. Even liked my mermaid hair. Sweet. Got my usual iced chai latte and it was good. Hub got a coffee. HAHAHA. I just read the comment a few comments down and this is an excerpt from it: "This is a coffee shop folks! Know the lingo if you work in one! When I made myself clear, I was served the doppio in a paper cup. Any good barista would know to serve espresso in a demitasse unless otherwise specified. The espresso was blah." Seriously, friend??? The person that wrote this seems to have his/her standards a bit high for coming to a small college town called Athens. Standards like that are surely a product of a ritsy vibe like the upper east side NYC. Or perhaps he/she comes from East Cobb. Whichever, I'm not judging. I'm just saying that Jittery Joes is not your fancy fine dining sort of coffee house. It's gritty. It's grungy. It doesn't claim to be classy and I don't think it could be anyway. But that's what makes it special. I mean, you can tell which tables are the nicest by the fact that the nice ones only have a tiny wobble as opposed to almost falling over broken. It flies under the radar and serves up coffee, goodies and indy/emo atmosphere. End of story. Don't read between the lines. What you see is what you get. And what you get is a coffeehouse that's been worn in but never worn down. oh ps- When using credit cards, the minimum they can charge is $1.00. I am quickly becoming addicted to not only coffee, but coffee shops as well. In order for me to perform basically any task (writing a paper, reading a book, clipping my fingernails) I basically have to be under the influence of a caffeine jag. Usually I go to either Starbucks or expresso royale downtown because they are both within walking distance of my place and school. I took a gamble today and drove to 5 Points to meet a friend at Joe's and I got to say I do like this little place. JJ's has good coffee, even if it is a few cents more for a 16 oz medium roast as compared to 'Bucky's or ERC (Yes, I am going to note the 2 cents price difference, keep in mind I live in relative poverty). They got the wifi going so everyone has their laptop out, there's lot of conversation but the place has a nice studious, calm feel to it. The place is decorated nicely with lots of brown and burgundy so it's got that dark urban feel to it. They got books lining the walls...in fact, I just found "Guide to Recovery: A Book For Adult Children Of Alcoholics", which ensures this place is going to be a magnet for customers with personality disorders (score!). The place does have very limited space, to me that's the only downside. I've noticed before this place is always busy, and it's a bitch to find parking here. (In fact, I parked at the pharmacy next door and I'm probably getting towed at this very moment. Might have to go through some dumpsters for aluminum and copper to get that impound fee). read more

I've loved Jittery Joe's Wake & Bake coffee for a long time, so when we were putting together gift bags for our wedding guests (we got married on Halloween), I emailed Jittery Joe's to see if they sold small bags of coffee. Not only were they fast in getting back to me AND they sell small bags, they offered to make custom labels for us at no extra charge! So, I got 100 bags of awesome Wake & Bake coffee with my very own wedding label on it. And Christian, the Jittery Joe's super customer service employee, made the whole thing happen from 2500 miles away (I live in LA but got married in Athens) - and they were perfect. Ready on time, cute label, and a cool bit of local flare for our many traveling guests. Why bother with a major corporate coffee chain when a local coffee shop with so much charm is just down the road? I spent way too much time here when I lived in Athens. The staff was friendly, the coffee was always fresh, and the muffins were always moist. There is nothing quite like walking over to your neighborhood coffee shop on a Saturday or Sunday morning to find it busy with friendly locals, studious college students, or the Jittery Joe's cycling team. If you need a place to study or just a place to hang out with some friends, this is definitely the place for you. I love Jittery Joe's! Drinks are delicious, and this particular location is quite cozy and conducive to studying, which is good since duhh it's basically on college campus. I guess the only iffy thing I have with this place are the pastries... I have yet to try a decent pastry here, which is terribly disappointing since I happen to love nibbling on carbs-overflowing treats! Oh well. Again, drinks are good. I have been coming here for about two months now and the customer service and coffee is exceptional. The only reason for a 4 is because it is beyond hot in the sit-in area, which makes it a little uncomfortable to focus on completing work. I do hope that it gets fixed because overall it is a great coffee shop. read more

Luckily, my sister, friend and I grabbed some coffee at Jittery Joe's on a Sunday morning during the summer, avoiding a college student stampede. Although, there were several students who had set up study hall camp with their laptops and textbooks at some of the tables, glowering while we carried on a non-stop conversation. That's what people do at coffee shops, though, right? The coffee was 'licious, especially with the soymilk I turned it light brown with. I also purchased a canister of coffee to take home: a blend from Papua New Guinea. The atmosphere is super-chill, with a little fireplace in the seating area and dark orange and green drapes festooned with beads. Stopped in while visiting Athens and it was such a pleasant experience. The staff is extremely friendly, and when they gave us our drinks, the barista said "There you go friend". We saw the honeysuckle ice latte and we had to try it, and we also got an iced red eye. The coffee was so delicious that we bought a couple cans to take home and they were still delicious there. Fantastic little coffee place. My husband and I were in town for a wedding, and I made several stops there during our visit. The Honeysuckle Latte was so *fantastic* I had two iced and one hot in the space of five days. The people are awesome, the ambiance inside is very comfy and warm (the wood inside is lovely), the drinks are tasty and creative, and the free wifi is a huge bonus. The parking lot is a bit cramped and the corner where the building sits is a bit... difficult, but it's totally worth it. :) read more

We went around 9pm (over the summer). I was there to just enjoy a turtle mocha (chocolate with caramel), which was only okay (for my taste). They also had King of Pops, but not too many selections when I was there. I believe my boyfriend said it was $3 a piece. STUDYING: It was pretty quite and most of the people there were simply studying. I liked the wood furniture (tables and chairs), most tables seated 4 people but studying-wise, I'd think would fit 2, maybe 3, people. I would say the lighting was a bit dim and I definitely did not see many outlets. Parking was a bit tight. Restroom was relatively clean. They also had a microwave there. A very cozy, southern-y coffeehouse. All wood decor and cute little touches. I am a big fan of the books lining the walls and the fact that Doc Watson was playing nearly continuously over the stereo. Always a more down-to-earth feel than Hendershots, Two Story, or even the downtown Jittery Joes location. The clientele is a great mix of undergrads, grad students, and Five Points residents just going about their daily lives. The espresso drinks are not out of this world, but the menu is vast and affordable. The furniture is a bit of a mess, but i guess it looks lived in! Cheerful service is provided by grads of local high schools trying to pay their way through UGA (tip 'em!). Great amount of time for the expiring wifi codes--after three hours you should probably talk to another human anyway. read more

Been here tons of times, I mostly get a ying yang mocha or mango fruit freeze, only had two times the ying yang mocha wasn't great, and it was about ten minutes to closing. Only gave four stars because there has been numerous times I've been sitting outside at a table and had people come up to me asking for money, even had one particular man who came up to me asking for money two days in a row asking for money for different reasons. Great coffee! This place is just as good, if not better than any of the coffee places you'll find in New York. Their medium and dark house blends are equally spectacular. This place also has a very cozy vibe. There's plenty of seating and nice antique looking tables with lamps. Definitely a great place to read a book or use their Wi-Fi.
