Normally I love coming here, it is one of my favorite shops in athens. But this was incredibly disappointing, especially for someone who does work in the coffee industry. I came in two hours before close, and ordered a single shot cortado. I received a single shot with milk foam that was cold, and the cup wasn't even half filled- it was not a cortado. I understand mistakes happen, so I went back and ordered an iced green tea with honey. As a barista, we always dissolve our honey when it comes to iced drinks. I received a tea with honey pooled at the bottom, and did not blend into the drink. I ordered this exact same thing two days prior and it was fantastic, so I was disappointed this time. The service was okay. I hope the gentleman working receives more training. I will likely not return to this location, but I still love jjs. read more

I enjoy coming to this Jittery Joes location, but was really disappointed by the service we received this evening. Ordered a medium hot chocolate with whipped cream and a small americano in the drive through around 8pm. We were the only people in line, only a few people in the shop and none of them ordering drinks. Took an exceedingly long time to get our drinks, and only got a small hot chocolate. Took us a second to realize it was the wrong size so we tried to get an employees attention... blue haired barista noticed us and proceeded to ignore us waving at her from the window. Drove around the building so she would talk to us at the drive through. Told her we ordered a medium hot chocolate with whipped cream, not a small. Her response: "You paid for a small." I responded "okay... we did order a medium." She repeated quite tersely: "you paid for a small." She sighed and half heartedly offered to charge us the difference and remake the drink.. we declined and left. Also really really pitiful amount of whipped cream :/ I included a pic of my quarter sized whipped cream allotment. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Charlie and his whole team at Jittery Joe's Roaster. I stopped in today and asked for a box of Kalita wave 155 filters and they didn't have any available to sell, but gave me a handful and offered to call me when they get the boxes out of the warehouse. I also purchased 2 bags of coffee wheb Charlie offered a small sample to blend along with one of the bags I purchased - this generousity and kindness is hard to find anywhere. Charlie treats everyone like a friend - often stopping for a quick chat while he's roasting. Cheers to you all at Jittery Joe's. Jittery Joe's is a coffee shop chain that started in Athens back in 1994. It is a local favorite coffee shop among UGA students. Apparently this location is pretty new, and it is really nice. The space is pretty big, and the store layout is fun. While waiting in line for your coffee, you get to check out their line of mugs and slick tumblers. The coffee pricing is pretty standard. I ordered a dark roast coffee with an extra vanilla flavor shot. Unfortunately, their creamer containers were empty, and in those situations I usually just nuke my drink with all the powders (nutmeg, cinnamon, cocoa, and vanilla). The drink was still delicious! What I really like about the location is actually the outside. First, there's an awesome orange bench swing where you and your friend can sit in what looks like a metal sofa, but it swings back and forth. Second, there's a wooden "birdhouse" bookshelf called the free library where you can give and take a book. Great concept! A for effort, creativity of the free library, design of the shop and quality of coffee. *Disclaimer: Came here for a day trip in Athens, quickly hitting up some of the local faves. read more

You know, if you're going to be in the business of selling expensive coffee ($20 per small can), you might want to have a variety of ways for people to pay for your expensive coffee. I've gotten coffee at this Jittery Joe's location a few times, and each experience has been good. However, today the store refused to take a $100 bill for payment on a $20 can of coffee. The clerk first said that they didn't have enough change. Then I offered to buy a second can, which then prompted her to say that they don't accept $100 bills. No further explanation given. There are two possible reasons why management of this location will not take large currency: 1) They don't want to carry a lot of cash in-store; and/or 2) they don't trust their clerk employees to recognize counterfeit bills. The first reason is a management lack of confidence issue or a management convenience issue. Unless the store is uninsured -- there really is no danger of losing large sums of money due to robbery. And, to the latter reason, modern U.S. currency have at least three safety markings to distinguish counterfeit bills within 5 seconds of inspection. So that's either an employee training issue or employee lack of trust issue. All of the above "issues" are symptoms of lazy management. This Jittery Joes location could have made a $40-$50 sale today. Since the management of this store made the choice of a policy based on lazy management, I will make the choice to not visit this store again until the policy changes. read more

I think that I first had JJ back in college which was many moons ago but recall liking them well enough. However, I think perhaps they only have very dark or over-roasted coffee which makes it all taste bitter like Starbucks coffee? I could be wrong because I'm far from a coffee expert but we ordered two iced coffees from this location on Sunday and both were pretty acrid even with creamer and simple syrup. Assuming it was an anomaly, we returned Monday to try the same order again but unfortunately just as bitter even with us requesting extra simple syrup. Though I feel more at home at the Jittery Joe's Roaster (E. Broad St.) or in the long-established Five Points (Milledge Ave) location, I do like this spot for what it is. Newer and slicker than the older JJ's locations, this place seems a bit more focused on serving commuters and folks on the go than on making a cozy place for you to hunker down to study. (That being said, there are several tables and a small bar where you can set up shop.) Morning biscuits before 11 AM. They're nothing super-special, but they hit the spot if you're in a hurry. (They're affordable, too.) I always get great customer service here; I like to buy my cans of whole bean coffee here because all the types are displayed in a user-friendly way. Oh, and last time I pulled through the drive-through to get some beans, the guy on the intercom spoke in a very entertaining sing-songy voice that put a smile on my face. read more

After visiting nearly every Jittery Joe's in the region, I've decided that this one is my least favorite. Everything I've tried here is either way too sweet and syrupy, or just plain bland. The atmosphere is nice though. And I'm glad there is a location in the Alps. The service is friendly, but they have made mistakes with my order before. I find it weird that prices are different at each location, and the prices here are not the lowest I've seen. I'll avoid this location if at all possible. read more

I've been to pretty much all of the Jittery Joe's in Athens/Watkinsville, but this one is probably my favorite for a few reasons. It has a very quick drive though, excellent service, and great coffee! There are several other coffee places on my route to work including a Starbucks, but I stop here mainly because of the character the owner has allowed the employees to carry out on a day to day basis. When going through the drive-thru, you never know what voice or personality you are going to get...sometimes it might be a space invader, a British gentleman, or a country bumpkin. If I get to start my day out with good coffee AND a laugh, that's a goooood day. Love you guys! read more

Giving a 2 star because the coffee here is actually really decent. But the customer service gets a 0. I was just asked by the drive thru woman (with a horrible attitude) 2 times if I was going to leave a tip, which in my opinion is completely inappropriate. I told her that maybe if she had been friendly to me I would have given her one but the fact that she had to request it was totally unprofessional. Won't be back to this location. read more

How can you NOT be a fan of Jittery Joe's!?! I'm not even a huge coffee fanatic and I love it. I guess there's just something about a locally owned and operated chain - especially when it's in Athens! That being said, I gotta admit the Baxter Street location isn't my favorite for one reason: the lighting. I don't know who designed this coffee shop, but those windows up top allow sunlight into the space at strange angles throughout the day and I find myself having to switch tables frequently to avoid being blinded while I'm working. But, okay, enough venting - the service here is great (everyone is so nice), the drinks are yummy (I like a good nonfat iced latte with a splash of sugar-free hazelnut syrup), and there is plenty of room to get some work done (inside or out!). JJ's even provides some extension cords so that folks studying or working don't have to hunt down a table against the wall. A GREAT move in a college town. Three cheers to Jittery Joe's! read more

Have loved Jittery Joe's since high school. Great coffee and great treats. They were gracious enough to be open the day after Christmas. I ordered a small Dutch mocha with a raspberry coconut bar (more like a brick - was extremely rich but delicious). Coffee was perfect as usual. This is speaking only to the Baxter location, the coffee there is terrible. Maybe their fancy drinks taste good but just plain hot or iced coffee tastes like cheap grocery generic coffee. I want to love and support them because of their community involvement but it's just bad flavored coffee. Also, with all the covid-19 stuff, you would think they would come up with a better system so you don't have to take and sign the receipt. I am just disappointed every time I go there. read more

By far the slowest drive-through I have ever experienced. Ever. Defies all logic really.

I met here on a Sunday morning with my daughter. We had our choice of tables, and the staff behind the counter was friendly and helpful. I had a blueberry scone, and my daughter had a bagel and cream cheese, to go with our coffees. I do suggest the early morning hours, as there is not a crowd and the sunlight through the large windows is not trying to cook you in your own juices. This is a good place to stop here in Athens if you need a break from other coffee places in town. read more

Hands down my favorite Jittery Joe's location. While all the locations have their own unique "flavor" the Baxter location is the easiest and friendliest to navigate. Parking is rarely an issue and the staff is always attentive. Obviously the coffee is amazing and while their food was never a favorite in the past, it seems they have stepped up their game with quality and selection recently. Beyond the standard muffins and croissants they have quiches and other non breakfast fare. Sometimes seating is limited but with the outdoor patio in the warmer months it seems to work out. read more

It's probably one of the bigger locations I've seen and it has tons and tons of space to sit to study, socialize, people watch, or work. Whatever suits your fancy, do it, but do it quietly because when I walked in, whoa, super quiet... Kind of like a library. But on a nice sunny day, sitting out at front would be a great way to spend a couple hours. Hmm the staff is friendly and everything else is grand, except I just cannot bring myself to enjoy the coffee. Yeah, yeah I know I'm no coffee expert, but taste is lacking here for me. =/ So, it's likely I'm probably not going to ever stop by again, but I'm sure for many other peeps, this is a swell coffee spot. I've spent years going to the different locations and have spent a small fortune on coffee at them and my experiences have gotten increasingly worse. The coffee was never the selling point for me, it was the space in which you are able to sit and read, study, or work. Unfortunately the "children" that work at this small chain of shops are what make this such a bad experience. I'm constantly greeted with frowns and huffing and puffing as if I am bothering them by simply saying hello and placing an order. They all know me well through out the various locations in Athens but Baxter and Barnett Shoals are the worst. I have never done anything to solicit such behavior amongst the staff. I am treated like I am unwanted and even as if Im the creepy old guy when Ive never said or done anything to make the staff uncomfortable. In fact its the opposite. Some years back there were younger female employees that would flirt with me but I never entertained it. I think the common denominator is the young staff and in my experience this is typical behavior for younger college students. After years of loyalty I've finally decided to no longer patronize Jittery Joes. The young Asian girl at the Baxter Street location seems plain old angry every time I'm in there or go through the drive through and its hard to not take it personally. There have been numerous times over the years that I have been friendly with some of the younger gentleman that work there but after a while, one by one they all eventually start to treat me differently too.I believe it is because the old staff sits round picking on the regulars behind there backs. I can't reiterate enough that I Have never been anything less than friendly and respectful but I get treated in a manner that makes me feel like Ive done something wrong. It seems like status quo for the young generation but honestly I'm starting to think its an Athens thing in general. Bottom line for me is that for the amount of time and money I have spent at Jittery Joes over the last few years, you would think that I would be recognized as a regular and treated with respect or Kindly, I always say hello and always tip. It really hurts my feelings and reflects poorly on society. The staff at the various locations literally make me feel like I am the bud of some inside joke. Its egregious and uncalled for. There is really only a small few of the staff who don't make me feel uncomfortable. My advice to the owners is to find some older employees. My advice to the staff is to grow up. read more

I had the most pleasant experience today at this location today . Not only was the coffee served fast and piping hot, but the servers were a sweet as possible. I had $5.00 on a gift card but the total was 5.80. I tried to pay the remaining 80 cents with a debit, but the min. charge allowed is 1.00. The servers just waved the .80 for me. It was a thoughtful gesture and their kindness made my day! read more
