BEWARE THEY ARE DISHONEST! I was a first time customer at Cochran Subaru and took my 2011 WRX to have a new clutch and suspension installed. The initial quotes I got were reasonable. I was already spending thousands, but was gauged hundreds in extra costs, some of which I feel were not justified. At one point, Eric called and said the rear toe adjustment arms were seized, and it would be an additional $800+! ($500+ for parts, $300 labor). I found that price hard to believe, so I asked him for the part numbers. After looking on subaruparts websites the total was only $200 for parts. I called Eric back and he seemed flustered and put me on with his parts guy. The parts at Cochran were actually $277 NOT $500+! Hmm??? However, the labor was still $300 for what literally amounts to two extra bolts added to the suspension work already being done. When I picked up the car, the first thing Eric said was "I told you about the exhaust gaskets." I said "no you did not." He said they had to replace two exhaust gaskets (which makes sense) and that it would be another $190. When I was surprised at the price he said, "well they had to drop the exhaust." I wish I would have pushed back then, but I was intent on discussing the $300 labor for the two extra bolts. But dropping the exhaust is part of the $2850 clutch job already. So I was being charged for that labor twice. There is no way to replace a clutch without dropping the exhaust. So I would call that double dipping! A few times during our discussion, Eric said "well I gave you good pricing on this to begin with" as if that justifies then gauging me later. When discussing the rear toe arms, Eric called his manager over. The manager said that his guy had to do the alignment twice, and that's why it was $300. That made more sense to me, and though it still seemed high, I relented. Imagine my shock when later finding on the bill, that not only was I charged the $300 plus $270 for parts, but I was also charged $160 for the alignment! So in the end I paid $730 for an alignment and two toe arms. Ridiculous. It's clear they were just padding the bill. The impression I got was I wasn't a customer, I was an opportunity. They had my car, I was getting a lot of work done, so I was an opportunity to squeeze as much money as possible while it was there. I don't mind spending extra when it's warranted. My view is, get it taken care of while it's there. Spend the money now, avoid the headache later. But here I don't feel they were being honest with me. They were double dipping and over-charging for labor. Milking me for hundreds of extra dollars on what was already going to be an almost $5000 bill. That said, the work itself seems (so far) to be good. Everything on the car is performing as it should. So I would say the mechanics did a good job. But it's the dishonesty I can't abide. I pay premium rates at dealers to get quality work and honest brokers. The competition - Baierl Subarus' estimates were higher in this case. But at least there, when extra work is found, they send pictures of everything, or take you back and show you. And they don't gauge you. After this experience, I don't feel I can trust the guys at Cochran Subaru. I will not be doing business with them again. read more

Mike DeSilva was my salesperson. I contacted other Subaru dealers via email and he was the most responsive. We discussed the model, make and year of the vehicle I wanted, and handled most of the deal through email, which was a big convenience and a time saver for me. I told him I wanted a 2025 Forester Touring in Red, with all the features. Turned out, Red is the most difficult model to find. Mike found one in the next state over, and was going to drive out and get it himself. I was all set to buy, came in and signed the papers committing myself to the deal. A day later I found out that It got sold at the last minute, and slipped right through our hands. There was not another car like this within 400 miles of Pittsburgh. Mike offered to order one special from the factory. I was not in a big hurry, so this was fine with me. It was more important to me that I got a Touring in Red. It HAD to be Red. Mike stayed in touch with me through the whole shipping process, which only took a month. Very good considering that it came all the way from Japan. When it arrived, Mike could not have been more attentive in showing me, and explaining to me, all the different features. As a reward for the month long wait, Mike threw in Remote Start at no extra charge. That was very classy of him! I'm VERY happy with my new Subaru, and all the features that came with it. I believe I got it at the best possible price. I felt like I was treated as an important customer throughout the entire process, from start to finish, and I like that! I am a loyal Subaru fan, my first one being a 2003 Forester XS (in Red) that now has close to 200,000 miles on it. It still runs great, and is the best car I ever owned in my whole life. And now I'm a loyal Cochran Subaru fan, even though I have to drive a little further (and pass other Subaru dealers) to get there. read more

I would say that it really depends what you are doing. If you are buying a car, I think it is ok. I think they are nice and give you a fair deal. When my husband went through the process it was decent and as expected. 4/5 When it comes to the service, though...... the facility is nice. They have you pull in, and the customer area is comfortable with snacks and seating. The service admins are also pretty great and friendly. But, I question the work they are doing. Since I got my car a year ago, I have gotten oil changes here. I always feel the couple extra dollars comes with someone paying attention. I have found out that is incorrect. Today, during inspection I got a video of my tires which have been poorly misaligned for some time. Now, I drive a lot and potholes are a part of the burgh life. I also don't expect they have a full on description of the misalignment, but it is glaringly obvious. My tread also mysteriously went down by .4. This leads me to believe that a number was put down because there was rushing. It is just frustrating since the car is 1 year old and already need new tires. I think that their service department is not preventative because they either want more money later or they are too busy to do the job properly. So in the end, I would only buy a car here. read more

Took my car for Pa state inspection, oil & filter change, air filter and tire rotation. I had. 6:30am appointment. I missed a call from the service department which I tried to return several times but no one answered the phone or called me back. I finally had to get my husband to take me out there since there was no way to get in touch with them. The number that they give you on their website does not identify the company and puts you in an message system that is nothing but unrelated ads for Medicare benefits. WTH!! When we arrived there around noon, they had not completed the repairs, the technician was at lunch until 1 and the customer service rep recommended $1600 of "routine maintenance" for the 60k inspection. My mileage is at 52K and I was advised that the car had passed inspection with no issues! I will never go there again. Not recommended! read more

Eight years later, I walked out of #1 Cochran Subaru in Monroeville with another new Outback and another great experience. My previous sales rep no longer works here, so I worked with Mike instead. It was an exceptionally pleasant experience for an extremely difficult transaction; I traded in two cars and applied three different Subaru discount programs. In the end, not only did everything work out, but Mike was able to work the deal so that I didn't have to burn my wife's Certified Pre-Owned coupon! The entire experience was very low-pressure, and even though I no longer live in the area, I plan to come back here the next time one of us needs a Subaru, whenever that is. These are guys you can trust! It's worth noting that I had the exact opposite experience at Cochran Subaru of Butler; it may be the same company, but come to the one in Monroeville. Mr Rob Cochran I did not realize that your company was flush with cash to be able to treat your Service Customers in such a manner to call them a name " annoying" yes your manager or - that is who he (John)claimed to be used that name for myself and my wife. These are the three people on July 5th that I came in contact with . John, Josh and Linda. I made an appt for an intermittent noise that was occurring on the drivers side. 6 hours later I had not received a call back for an update, so I started reaching out - no one would pick up the phone. It took me over 20 minutes to speak to someone only to be put on hold and dumped into a voicemail box. After that another hour for a call back- so that was over 7 hours without receiving an update. When Josh finally called back he said that they were not able to duplicate the noise and admitted that it was only run around in the back gravel lot. When I arrived back to the dealership to pick up my car- I asked for the video of the diagnostic because Josh did not instill any confidence that any real effort was put in to find the problem. I also asked him why he did not reach out sooner he said he was busy entering past paperwork from a system shut down. "Josh could not produce the diagnostic video because no one did one" Again instilling no confidence in your staff that any effort was put in to my problem. He then said record the noise and bring it back when it happens. On the way home the noise happened and I recorded it , I was less than a mile a way from home so I decided to call in stead of returning back to the dealership as it was near to closing time and I live over 30 minutes away. Again it took over twenty minutes to get through , yet when I left there were three people at the service desks and NO customers. When I finally got through a women named Linda answered I explained the situation, she argued with me about my experience and put me on hold for 10 minutes when John picked up, identified himself as the manager and proceeded to tell me that no one wanted to talk with me because I was annoying and that we can not use the recording and he was sure that the noise was not a big deal... he also said I was welcome to take my vehicle somewhere else. You will find no documentation that this visit even occurred because they did not even write it up. I only have the key tag number from whe they initially took the vehicle in. WOW- never in my life have I experienced such dismissive, rude, un caring treatment. . Clearly you do not need my vehicle business in service or future purchases because you have people working for you like this who drives everyone away. For years I worked for a company that supplied me and 4 other coworkers with Subaru Foresters as a company car. While the car itself was decent, the software that #1 Cochran Subaru used is the absolute pits! It couldn't track cars, so whenever you took your car in for service and it came time for them to call you what they found - they ALWAYS call the last person who's car was there. And I've now been gone from that company for 6 months and haven't driven a Subaru for over a year - but still got 3 phone calls this week about my car that they have for service and now today because they want payment! When you tell the people calling that they have the wrong person and that their software sucks - they agree with you. The service staff lied to me and said I didn't need an emissions inspection in Allegheny county (to get out of doing the work I guess?). So instead of driving home with a new car an employee named Brian gave me a ride back to my house! I started looking for a new car back in June. We took a test drive with Harry "Good News" Gosnell. Since then I've taken a lot of test drives and a lot of times the salesman talk all through the test drive and trying to point out stuff about the car. Harry sat in the back seat and took me on a drive that showed me how to make the most of the turning radius in the Subaru Impreza and how to get out of gravel without spinning the tires and how to backup using the backup camera and the trajectory angles to my advantage. I'm a nervous Nelly in the car and this guy gave me so much confidence about parking and doing three-point turns and accelerating. Since that test drive my overall driving proficiency has increased so much and my confidence. It was an added bonus that I did not expect. There are six Subaru dealerships within a 20 Mi radius of my house. I talked to nearly all of them and drove a car at another Subaru dealership, a Kia dealership and a Mitsubishi dealership. Now in August we were just getting the funding together to make the purchase. I'd been to a lot of different dealerships including Kenny Ross (where I would never go again... check out their BBB rating) and and we came back and drove a Subaru Forester with Harry Gosnell. The Forester was a bigger car and more suited to our family needs, but we felt that it was out of our price range. One of the managers, Garrett, gave us a deal that made it affordable for us. and this enabled us to get the premium with the heated seats and all of the bells and whistles that we could not afford before this deal. We knew that we couldn't stay and make a deal that day and we had to leave the dealership and we were worried that they might pressure us to stay but they didn't. We went home we talked about it and we decided to make a counter-offer to the dealership which we presented to them. They considered our offer and gave us a very good trade allowance on our car and a significant portion off of the price of the Forester that we bought, this deal brought both sides together and was more than acceptable to my husband and I. When we came in to purchase the car they were able to take all of our information and schedule an appointment for us to meet with the finance person, Chris. In the finance office Chris was very organized took all of our paperwork, put it before us and explain each thing before we signed. He explain the various products that they sell in the finance office but never pressured us to buy anything. He told us that it was perfectly fine with him if we didn't pick up any of the extras at the end, all of which we skipped on. I am a spreadsheet and numbers person and all of the numbers added up and nothing extra was added. There were no dirty tricks. They cleaned up the car that we picked out and got it all ready for us while we were signing the paperwork. I left there with a very positive feeling and a lot of thankfulness because I have been praying for a new car and it happened. God is good! read more

I bought a 2012 Subaru Impreza from this dealer, only for my oil light to illuminate days later. I called the salesman to ask why the car I just purchased already had a warning light. He stated that he was aware of this issue, as it is common for 2012 Imprezas to consume too much oil. Why am I not surprised he didn't disclose this information BEFORE the sale? The salesman told me that if I took it to a Subaru Dealership to have them conduct an oil consumption test, they would "fix" it for me. When I took it to a Subaru dealer (not Cochran. I moved out-of-state) they conducted the test (I had to make multiple trips for them to take multiple oil-level readings. After my final visit, they concluded that my car is indeed consuming too much oil, but not enough for them to take care of it for me, and instructed me to keep adding a quart every time the oil light comes on (every few weeks). I used to recommend Subarus to others. Now I do the opposite, and I share this story which has discouraged many people thus far from considering a Subaru. This wasn't my first Subaru, but it was certainly my last. Never again, Subaru. read more

I brought my car in for an oil change, and asked them to check out a couple things based on some things I was noticing with the car. The service department was fantastic. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. The service manager saw what I requested on the appointment reservation, and asked what was going on. He carefully listened to me explain the symptoms and asked questions to clarify. He also asked a little about the history or any other issues I may have had. Less than 2 hours later, my maintenance was done. They couldn't recreate the issue specifically but found a service bulletin from Subaru that matched what I was experiencing and they repaired it as a courtesy. (I still think I'm in shock... I never expected that level of service!) While on my way out he had let me know if there were any issues to take his card and call them and bring it back if it repeats, but they think that should have fixed it. So far, so good. They gave me a solid solution, didn't string me along and listened to me. He also said they can do a loaner if they find they need to keep the car longer-- which as a working mom is very useful. Plus... they found an open recall that the selling dealership missed, too. And ran it through the car wash before bringing it back in. I cannot tell you how grateful and appreciative I am. I have never had such an awesome and positive experience at a dealership or mechanic before. I absolutely recommend them. read more

I really like #1 Cochran Subaru! I test drove a Legacy and Impreza in January when my nine year old Volvo began to give me issues. The gentleman who took us out for a drive was nice but a tiny bit abrasive. When we returned several days later to purchase a car, we actually discovered that he had left the dealership, and we were reassigned to Steve Phillips. I was ready to buy the car that night, and both Steve and a very helpful guy (wish I could remember his name) who did the financing stayed an hour or more after close to get through all the paperwork with me. I appreciated their patience, and Steve's willingness to stay as late as necessary to make sure that I understood things like the Satellite radio and Navigation system before driving away. I drive a lot (about 18,000 miles/year) and have already gone for two oil changes. Both experiences were excellent with easy scheduling, helpful representatives, quick turnaround, and a complementary car wash. I'll definitely be returning to Cochran for all my maintenance in the future. read more

Bought my Subaru from #1 Cochran 4 years ago. Recently had what was supposed to be the 35000 mile service. They did an oil change and rotated the tires. Since then, the car developed a squeal from the right side of the car. Sounded brake related. I took it back twice for them to check it out. Both times the service department was extremely busy and didn't take time to really listen to me or look at the car. The second time, they told me that it was just just the tire rubbing on the wheel and just put some tire shine on it. At that point, I was done wasting my time with Cochran. I took it to a 'mom and pop' mechanic today and we were able to pinpoint the problem. They took the time to listen to me and talk with me. The rear brake pads were finished and the rear brake rotors needed to be replaced, too. Also, in the process we looked at the tires and they were way past the point at which they should be replaced...below the bottom of the tread...something else that #1 Cochran should have pointed out to me. The car runs and sounds like new again...much needed for a cross-country move we are making next week that wouldn't have been a good time for a tire blow out or brake problems! The point is, with all those resources that Cochran has, it doesn't matter if you can't take the necessary time to give good customer service. read more

It was nice to view the vehicle from underneath and learn where everything is located and how it was put together while the services were being performed. Car buying experience from Cochran was fine, no complaints. The dealer showed all this data about how wonderful their service is too. Well, I needed an appt to investigate a Check Engine code (Subaru's light up all kind of warning lights when the check engine light comes on). I looked on Google and saw that there's a service bulletin out on my Legacy, so I wanted to take it to the dealer. Customer service in their Service Dept. was so bad, I never made it in. First, nobody answers the phone. I'm talking at least 10 minutes on hold, with the call recycling back to the original message every minute, like whoever set it up didn't think they'd be leaving people hang for that long. When my call got picked up, I dealt with the nastiest woman. She had a "you'll get what I give you" attitude. By the way, what she gave me was the opportunity to take the next appt. a week later. When I told her that was too long, she actually mocked my tone of voice, like a child in a playground. LOL: I guess they don't really record these calls for quality assurance purposes. A whole week to do the diagnostic...not even a commitment to fix the car at that appointment! I had to take it to my neighborhood mechanic...who saw me the same day, out in 10-minutes. I told him about the service bulletin, he said, let's wait and see if it comes back on. I would have preferred to hear from Subaru mechanics....but that didn't happen. Bottom line, buy the car where you get the best deal. But, don't buy the crap about how great the service department is. They all cook the data to make themselves look good. I guarantee you nobody is keeping track of my experience. read more

I was happy to buy my Foster here. They have me the best deal that I had found. I didn't have to stand around long to talk to a salesperson. The service however, that's lacking. My first few visits were decent, but my last visit was not. I paid almost 100 bucks for my oil change, tire rotation, etc. I asked prior if that would include the multi point inspection, but yea, they didn't do it. I tried to call, email... no response... ever. I made sure to give them an appropriate Subaru survey for the experience. I left them for a bigger disappointment (Day West Liberty Subaru)... to only return to a great, trustworthy and local (non-dealer) mechanic shop, Cher-Ban tire. read more

I purchased my first Subaru here in 2009. I enjoyed working with one of their sales consultants (who happens to be female) on the test drive and sale. I didn't get a good vibe from her boss, but I was very glad to be helped by her, especially since the purchase came at a difficult time for me. The dealership was very accommodating and even let me borrow one of the cars overnight! At the last minute, I decided to buy a different model, and received a nice discount since it was the last one and a manual transmission.
