The people in Sales are great to work with. Friendly and knowledgeable. We have our cars maintenance/service done at Spitzer. The service department people are great! I purchased a 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander from Spitzer Toyota (Monroeville, PA), and unfortunately, my ownership experience has been plagued by significant safety recalls, mechanical failures, and frustrating service hurdles. While the vehicle has potential, the reliability and initial customer support have been far below Toyota's reputation. Major Issues Encountered: Safety Recalls: Shortly after purchase, the vehicle was hit with the June 2024 side curtain airbag recall. Knowing that safety features might not deploy correctly in a brand-new family SUV is deeply concerning. Drivetrain & Electronic Glitches: I experienced persistent noise and vibration from the front CV joints/axles. Initially, the service department dismissed my concerns, claiming the vehicle was "fine." It was only after I insisted on a ride-along with a technician that they finally acknowledged the technical failure. It took several appointments to get this "annoying" and "noisy" issue resolved. Hybrid Battery Failure: My wife was driving when the dashboard lit up with every conceivable warning (Engine, Transmission, Airbags, Toyota Safety Sense). The car entered "limp mode," refusing to go over 30 mph. Toyota kept the car for an entire month to replace the hybrid battery chip. While a loaner was provided, a total battery system failure on a new vehicle is unacceptable. Power Liftgate Malfunction: Most recently, the trunk sensor has failed. The liftgate opens electronically but refuses to close via the button. Because it is a power system, closing it manually is difficult and counterintuitive. Driving Dynamics: The driving experience is significantly less refined than other Toyota models I've driven. Specifically, the braking system is not very responsive compared to the regular Highlander or the Toyota Venza. It lacks the "bite" you expect in a large SUV. Furthermore, you cannot drive this vehicle aggressively; it feels less comfortable and less satisfactory in its handling than the standard Highlander. Verdict: Between the mechanical defects and the initial struggle to have my concerns taken seriously by the service team, I cannot recommend the 2024 Grand Highlander. I have purchased 6 vehicles from Spitzer and stated I will never purchase a car there again as long as Adam is the GM. I stated I would be in for my free services and that is it. When I tried to schedule an Inspection and Emissions I was denied service due to leaving a review voicing my concerns. I was told from the service department that Adam has a list of customers that are no longer allowed to have their vehicles serviced there due to bad reviews. Moved here from out of state and needed the car to pass inspection as part of the registration process. Car was at the dealership for a tuneup two months earlier in preparation for driving to PA, so I was expecting a vanilla inspection. In the end, I ended up with two new tires (not a BIG surprise) at $175 each (HUGE surprise), three changed itty bitty light bulbs at $30 each, the fee for registration inspection (around $95 I think), a $25 charge for use of the facility, blah blah blah...totalled $750 and then 3% fee to pay by credit card. Welcme to Pennsylvania! Went out to pick up the car and my new tires had gunk on them from the installation...they couldn't be bothered to wipe it off? OK, so I'm annoyed at the pricing, but the tires being dirty...leaves the impression of A+ pricing for B- service. read more

at first we had a great experience with this dealership. but there was a mix up with my extended warranty through Toyota. so after Spitzer checked over my car to see what was wrong they charged me over $200 to get my car out. but on my warranty it says $0 for diagnostic fees. After thoroughly researching cars online, I decided Spitzer was where I wanted to go. I did all of my car maintenance, new tires, and inspection on my last car, so I was excited to work with Spitzer again...I called in the morning, and said I was coming in, and looking at buying 1 of 2 cars. I was in quite a bind because my car had been totaled, everything was out of pocket, I had no rides, and I only had cash in hand, but only a few bucks in my checking account so I couldn't get a Lyft or Uber. I asked if there was any way the shuttle could pick me up, I was told they didn't have one. That was the first of many excuses I got about the shuttle. When I got there I went on a test ride with Rudy. He took me on a loop, and as I neared the end I said I was disappointed I wasn't even able to drive the car on a road that even went up to 45 MPH. He told me to speed so I could go 45 MPH. The speed limit was 35, and there was a cop at the end. When we returned to the dealership I was trying to check out the car, but Rudy immediately ushered me over to the table. At first I was not sure if I would be financing through Toyota or paying cash. Because of the interest rate, I decided to pay cash. The money was going to have to be wired. As soon as I said I was paying cash Rudy tried to walk away from the table and basically blew me off. As I sat waiting for Rudy to come back, two sales men sitting directly behind me started talking about a Subaru, and started making disparaging remarks about lesbians and Subarus. They were talking about one of the cars I was there to test drive, and referring to me. I told Rudy I was going to wait around for the wire to go through. He told me that "The lady only goes to the bank once a day." I tried to explain to him this was my area of expertise, and that's not how wires work. He told me I could not have the car until the next day, or maybe two days later. Begrudgingly, my dad paid a $500 refundable deposit, and I left. A few hours later I received a call and was told the wire had in-fact been received, and Rudy, or someone else, would be picking me up, he'd call me in a moment. Rudy called me and told me they were releasing the car early, and I needed to get there ASAP. When I got there, Rudy droned on and on about how he was so busy, blah blah blah, and that's why he couldn't pick me up. So basically their excuse for everything was that they were too busy making money to help me. I filled out an internal survey, and was told I'd be getting a call from a manager. Instead I got a thank you email from Rudy. It's been two weeks, and we've had to fight with them to get the deposit back. The manager Jason said it wasn't refunded because Rudy didn't know it needed to be refunded. That is a patently false statement because I clarified with Rudy that the wire would pay in full, not less the $500 deposit. read more

I tried to buy a new car from them twice but each time there was a problem, somebody didn't come in, the car I was looking at sold already, always excuses leaning toward my bad. Ghosted by a dealership... This was a first for me. I found a vehicle online and communicated with Doug via email and text. We had decent conversation that led to me providing some pictures of my vehicle to get a rough estimate on a trade in. After the last text I heard nothing for about a week. Then randomly I got an email saying the vehicle I had inquired about had been sold. The best part was that he went on to talk about other vehicles like he hadn't ignored me. Stay away. Bought a car that was inspected by their mechanics right before purchase, and two months later it broke down with no oil. The car's required constant maintenance from me - adding oil, cleaning the solenoids - but got to the point that the check engine light will not go off. I took it back to explain the situation and try to sell it back, sales manager offered $500 to sell at auction and actually told me the make/model I bought is junk. That would've been great to know when I bought it from his dealership for $14,000. I still owe about $6,000 on a car that doesn't run because of issues it had when the car was sold to me. read more

Dealership is super shady. They advertised a 7 year Powertrain Warranty and when we came in we were told that the 7 years starts with the original owner, leaving use with around 4 years. That is not what was advertised. The Finance person was extremely rude with us and said we should have asked more questions. There is no small print anywhere that says the warranty time would be subtracted. Then to make matters worse, we were ready to sign and Spitzer didn't even have the title to sell it yet as it was purchased from NJ and not switched to PA yet. It was advertised on their site and many others. So they let us take it with a dealer plate and will have to come back in a couple weeks to sign all of the paperwork and get our real plate. She had the car 2 days when it wouldn't start. Had to get it towed because there was an oil leak!! Dealership blamed my daughter saying she was racing in the car!! Kept the car for 2 weeks after promising a new engine only to get it back with a used engine!! They never gave her the Car Fax report for the car either!! I bought a used 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i in June 2023 from Spitzer Toyota. three months and 1400 miles later the vehicle needs a 2000 dollar repair to the transmission valve body. The code popped up the second week in July only to pop up again. This never happened with any other used vehicle I bought this quickly. I should have walked away when they tried to sneak in window etching anti theft to the deal. Window etching at 500 bucks is a scam I refused . I am sure the dealer would reply back customer bought as is . However they got my 12,000 dollars for a lemon . Set up an appointment to complete paperwork to purchase a car, and then get a call 3 hours before the appointment to inform me that the car was sold earlier that morning. My husband and I have bought 3 cars from Spitzer. However, my last service/sales experience was not good. I left my car for inspection/scheduled service and went to breakfast with my adult daughter. After about 2 hours, called to check progress and was told service guy would call me back. He did not. Another hour and I asked my daughter to drop me off and I'd wait the remainder of the time. I ìnformed the service desk I was now waiting. While we were there, my daughter approached the salesperson on duty to inquire about a used car. Told him her price range and he laughed at her. Audibly. Not remotely acceptable to laugh at a potential customer. Ended up waiting another 4 hours for my car to be done. Also unacceptable. I contacted Spitzer about this experience and they have not followed through with me in any way. I'm assuming this means they're no longer interested in our business. I'm not sure why I bothered making an appointment. It took me a month to get a Saturday appointment. I took 8:00 because it was the first appointment of the day and figured it would be an easy in and out. They told me that it would be about an hour. At 9:05, they had still not even started my car. It was finally done at 10:15. To me, that is an unacceptable amount of time for an oil change, especially when you have the first appointment of the morning. The first time I inquired about the wait time, I was told they started with cars that were dropped off overnight. When I asked again when it was finally ready, I was told it was because a mechanic called in sick and they got behind as a result. I'm not sure which is true, but either way, it is frustrating to a customer. Whatever the reason, having an 8:00 appointment for an oil change and not being done until over two hours later is unacceptable. I will not be returning to Spitzer. read more

Location: William Penn Highway outbound Monroeville towards Murrysville. After #1 Cochran. Do yourself a favor and go to #1 Cochran before your day is ruined. The turn is a one lane entrance/exit at the light, easy to miss. Again, I compel anyone to miss this turn intentionally. Facility: New and modern, comfortable. When arriving drive up to service doors and they automatically open. Go inside and give keys to receptionist to check in. Staff/Service: Receptionist was rude. From other reviews it seems they all are. She stated we were here for a service that sounded benign. We said that we scheduled an appointment to replace the window trim. She snapped that the term she originally used was the technical way of saying my request. Kudos, you win. Let's get started. Experience: Mechanics were moving at a snail pace as urgency doesn't need apply when charging labor hours. I recommend tinting out service windows if you plan to keep on dragging your toes. Next receptionist was rude upon arrival. Last, the sales guys sat around like a posse of firemen waiting for the whistle. Find some busy work or help them find my part (more to come) We had off on Sat. had the day planned out. Car appt. at 1:30. We arrived 1:20. We were told at 2:45 that they did not have the part to fix the car and that they did not do anything to the vehicle. (Audible: They could have put adhesive on strip for temporary fix; they did not) We waited for 1hr 25min to be told that they didn't do anything and couldn't find the part. Best part, no apologies or empathy. The valet (mechanic) brought our car around 10min after them shrugging their shoulders. I explained that I was reasonable, but we wasted all this time... Why weren't we made aware 5min in? Nothing, it was the twilight zone with crickets in that office. Our service tag was left on to which I removed and thanked them for the wasted trip. In Conclusion: I know enough about cars to know that they needed to order the part (even being a dealership.) Folie (made our appointment) was short on the phone and kept cuttings off saying that we were good to go. Appointment at 1:30 Sat! This is after us calling 3x with no callback. This time we knew that we needed a part for replacement and even after asking again she confirmed we would be good. Unappreciative of people's time and understanding that people outside of the industry also know a thing or two about vehicles. Incompetent and bad service is an understatement. There are many books on leadership and many good managers out there. I recommend getting a few. We had a friend buy a car from you last year. This is long overdue, and I am sorry that I don't remember the salesman, but my story should help you identify this GEM of a man. I bought a 2019 Highlander, they said it was the demo model, in August 2019. Salesman couldn't have been nicer. Bought my kids snacks and drinks. When he heard my husband was ill with cancer, he was so sympathetic and helpful. I love the car. But, here's the best part. Some days later, I was eating at Eat 'N' Park with my kids and ran into same salesman. He remembered me, asked how my husband was, and then he asked how the car was running. I said great, but I'm having a little issue with the trunk not opening all the way. He immediately said, "I know how to fix it. If you give me your keys, I'll take a look at it RIGHT NOW." I couldn't believe it! I said, "you're eating dinner! I'll bring it into the shop!" He says, "it'll take two seconds to fix," and insists I am not intruding! So, he takes my keys and proceeds to FIX MY CAR RIGHT THERE IN THE PARKING LOT. He was right, it took two seconds and it's been running great ever since. He showed me how to keep the same problem from happening again, and wished my husband well. We parted ways with me feeling absolutely wonderful. Please, find this man and thank him for me. Please, promote this man. He's amazing. Spitzer in general has always been wonderful, this is the third car I've leased from there. After this, I'll never go anywhere else. read more

I'm not from Pittsburgh and haven't been there for a decade, but my car has been, and my car gives Spitzer five stars for amazing customer service and excellent mechanical repairs. Here's the long story: We bought the car at a dealership in Philadelphia. It was used, and they rushed it through inspection to get it to us. We drove it to a family event in Ohio and the transmission died. The Philly dealership and the Ohio dealership spent two weeks haggling (and also entering the powertrain warranty paperwork two weeks late). The Ohio dealership did a lousy job on diagnostics (first they said it was just the cable, then they realized it was the entire transmission, and unbelievably, they claimed it was because we drove it at highway speed in second gear, because otherwise Toyota transmissions don't die. WTF). Meanwhile, the Philly dealership is moaning and groaning about how long we are holding on to their loaner car (a five-year-old trade-in). But finally our car is ready. My father-in-law heads to Ohio to recover it. Right outside Pittsburgh the transmission starts slipping again, so he coasts downhill to Spitzer. Spitzer says they found an engine code for a solenoid that talks to the transmission. The Ohio dealership is sniffy at the shade being cast at their repair. They say we should pay for the diagnostics ourselves, if we want to do it in Pittsburgh. (Like we have a choice?) Spitzer politely tells them to STFU and that the dealerships will figure out who will cover the cost, but we shouldn't have to stress over it. For the first time we felt like someone actually cared about us, and was not just checking the boxes of the official corporate "good customer service protocol." Also, the engine code thing explained why two transmissions went out in such a short time, so the repair should be good this time. They sent my father-in-law home in a brand new truck, which my husband returned when he picked up the van a few days later. (During which time our Philly dealership called to say we should return their loaner car already because it's not their fault this time. My husband said he was keeping the car til he got his car back, and their response was mind-bogglingly "It's been two days, how long do they need to fix a transmission?") The moral of the story is: go to Spitzer Toyota for excellent customer service and great mechanics! read more

I felt that I needed to post my review after seeing that Spitzer only had like one star. Anyway, I purchased my Prius from them, and it was very easy. I guess that's because I'm a no nonsense type of person and when being told bullshit I have the ability to call people on it. I got the car and my relationship with Spitzer has been excellent since. The last time I took my car in someone swiped the passenger side while it was in the lot. Spitzer took care of it right away at no cost to me. They even called and gave updates regularly and coordinated with my schedule so I wouldn't be "put out" so to speak. As far as other reviewers go, you shouldn't leave without the things you ask for or better yet, have them in the promised writing documentation that you can fill out when purchasing the car. You also should ask labor prices prior to having a company execute a job. Those aren't faults of the company but faults of the user. read more

I got my 4 runner back but when we reached our destination I realized there was a new scratch by the door handle on the back passenger door. A brand new Rav-4 was purchased by someone in my immediate family only a few months ago. At only a few months old, the vehicle failed to start. The dealer was contacted and the soonest appointment that they could make to check the problem was 3 weeks out. Not acceptable. To top that, the car was dropped off the night before the appointment day, and the dealership tried to get out of looking at the car at all because it was "3:00 pm on a Saturday, and too late". To explain, I purchased a used Nissan Sentra from Toyota Spitzer in Monroeville in May. The first week I had the car, I experienced a distant light that would come on and stay on. I figured it was malfunctioning so I took the car back to the dealer and informed the Salesman that I bought the car from. He told me to come in the next week to get my car looked at. I came in the next weekend to find that service garage was closed because everyone went home early for Memorial Day weekend. I then came in the next weekend and they told me that I needed to make an appointment. After going through all of that I called corporate to see if they could make something happen. The service manager called me to make an appointment. I came in to drop the car off, during the week. By this time we're in mid June. The service manager told me that they had to take the car to the Nissan dealer since they don't service that car there at their own garage. After a couple days had passed, the service manager called me and said that the distance sensor was damaged/malfunctioned and there was a missing plastic sheath that protected the sensor was missing. He told me to call me auto insurance company to file a claim so I can get the car fixed. I was puzzled because I didn't do anything to the car. So now we're in July. I called corporate about the issue and the secretary/assistant called the service manager to get his explanation. She told me that the service manager stated to her that I said I told him that I damaged my own car and that I waited too long to bring the car in to get serviced. I was flabbergasted. I never had someone say that about me. I asked the secretary what is going to be done about this and she did not answer me except to offer an apology to me and said it's my word against his. I never had an employee of an establishment LIE about me like that. There should be, at least, a very stern reprimand on the service manager and the secretary for taking no action. To summarize, the service manager at Toyota Spitzer in Monroeville lied about his customer to the corporate office and there was absolutely no response from them. This is how they treat their customers. I deserve a FORMAL (WRITTEN) APOLOGY from the service manager to say the least. I will not be back and I do not recommend to anyone. read more
