McDonald's quality is fairly consistent everywhere in Hong Kong. It's not some place that I frequent regularly (for the sake of my health-conscious self), but I will make exceptions when the cravings kick in for them Golden Arches.
On a Sunday morning prior to catching a movie at Palace IFC, there was already a single long line at 9:25am. Color me impressed, the line moved very quickly, with one cashier and one staff packing the orders (which were, by default, take-out). The cashier staff taking our order was very friendly and helpful, and passed us on to the left side where we waited for our order to be ready. Everything was all 5 stars at this point, until we reached the "order processing staff".
There are large monitors overhead, listing your order number IN ORDER of completion, and it will be placed along counter accordingly. I had been used to order numbers being called out at other establishments and was completely confused as to why they weren't, at McDonalds. We saw her pack a breakfast set with a drink in a paper bag and place it on the counter without saying anything. Because I was standing right in front of the counter, I didn't even bother to look up at the monitor and relied on the lady to announce the order. No sound came from her lips. "Oh excuse me, is this order number 340?" NO REACTION. I thought maybe she didn't hear me, so I repeated my question. STILL NO REACTION. Was she ignoring me on purpose? It sure seemed like it. Never have I encountered such a rude staff at a McDonalds in Hong Kong, let alone in a nicer location at the IFC mall. I almost raised my voice again, and showed her my receipt. "Is this order number 340?" She snatched my receipt and compared it to her order, picked up the bag I was inquiring about and handed it to me. Maybe she wasn't having a good day, it was Sunday morning after all. Please, someone give this woman a Happy Meal. read more
