I think of McDonald's as kind of a saviour when I go travelling - a reliable place that feels familiar. In Hong Kong, where street food is eaten on the go and restaurants nearly want to kick you out once you are done eating, I find McDonald's (along with other fast food places) one of the only places to relax and just hang out. That was fantastic for me since life in Hong Kong was getting a bit too hectic for me and coming out to chill at McD's gave me room to breathe.
I didn't have wifi where I was living when I came to Hong Kong so I came very often to use the internet. McDonald's gives you 4 60-minute sessions of internet usage a day, which is very generous compared to CSL where you get 30 minutes a day. McD's in Hong Kong is famously cheap. I really like fish fillets so I loaded up once I got to HK (they were $11 HKD when I went and like $6 CAD at home).
I really like the beverage/dessert card they offer in Hong Kong. You buy the card for $12 HKD and after that you can get a buy one get one free offer from a pool of selected drinks/desserts. You pretty much earn back the cost of the card on your 1st use.
The only bad things about HK McD's is that its 24 hours and when I went there were many homeless people (or people who didn't want to go home) who were sleeping horizontally on the chairs there at night, taking up chairs for regular customers. By the end of my stay though (around a month), I saw that this problem had been dealt with though. I agree with the other reviewer saying that the bathrooms are not clean. But then again, that's just how it is here. read more
