Breakfast in Hong Kong…read more.. We saw McDonald's across the street from our hotel and decided to dine here! We ordered at the kiosk because the McDonald's app didn't work. We stood in line to pay at the counter. Service was efficient - especially with a long line and just one cashier! There were many seating options: small tatables, high tops, and long, separated tables. The lighting was muted. There was pleasant Chinese pop music playing in the background! I got the combo meal: grilled chicken pasta with tomato soup and Hot Lemon Tea. It came with hash browns - the regular type that you get in the USA. The curly pasta was good! It wasn't mushy! The tomato soup was on the watery side, but tasted great and had some corn kernels in it! The grilled chicken was challenging to eat. I pierced it with a fork and took a bite... I need a fork! It had some kick to it, but was tender with a bit of gristle. The tea was very dark and strong... it helped me Kickstart my day! Happy Sunday! This was our first meal in Hong Kong!

Nothing like the familiarity of our McDonald's though here in Hong Kong the varieties for breakfast alone is pretty impressive, wished I took pics of the menu but today it was the simple Luncheon Meat McMuffin which replaced the Canadian bacon for a thick cut of luncheon meat. Very mild and delicate nothing like spam which is very salty and I really enjoyed every single bite. They do have breakfast Happy Meal as well which I believe are pancakes but why don't we have this in the states...ordering is by kiosk only though you have the option of card payment T the kiosk or cash at the counter. Access is by stairs only which is my only complain but with lots of seating and fast service it's a great option to start your day on a friendly and yummy budget. Thank you!

After going down the stairs there's McCafé or regular McDonald's to choose from. You can either order what you want from the many kiosks or order from a staff. On this particular occasion I went with the Matcha Red Bean Layer Cake and Soy Milk Matcha. There's a deal when you order a large drink plus a cake that the layer cake drops from $29 to $18. I like that I was able to pay with my Octopus (transportation card, like the Presto in the GTA) so that I didn't have to look for the correct amount of change. The layer cake tasted of match but it was a very subtle flavour. The red beans were a nice addition. The soy milk matcha had a heavier flavour of matcha and was quite smooth. When I sat down I noticed that there's wireless chargers on the tops of the high top tables as well as USB ports on the side. I wasn't able to connect to WiFi this time but I appreciate being able to charge my phone after taking lots of photos during the day.

It had been so long since I had had a good burger and of one that reminded me of In-N-Out in California. Their burgers are really one of the best in Hong Kong and while is on the pricier side, is most definitely worth it. The ingredients making up the burger are especially fresh, from the beef patty, to the lettuce and onions. The cheese sauce on the fries was well seasoned (it wasn't just melted cheese) and the Apple pie iced tea was surprisingly refreshing and definitely suitable for the autumn season. The price of a standard burger on average will set you at least HK$100 alone, add some fries to share and a drink, and you're looking at a HK$200 meal easily. Not quite what some people might have in mind for "fast food". But a treat once in a while is well deserved. I can't wait to try the chili fries next time!

It really does give the tea an apple pie tint and is also not too sweet. If you are looking for a good burger I would come here. I had…read morebeen hesitant about going to Big Fernand because of the high prices (they say, 75% of what you pay for in Central goes to rent), but after a grueling obstacle race, I decided to take the plunge. The method of ordering at Big Fernand is easy. We went in the middle of the afternoon so there were a fair number of tables open. At the register, they will ask you how you want your burger. I ordered The Bartholomé, beef burger Medium. My friend ordered The Victor (veal burger) in medium rare. If you want to add fries and a drink, it will cost you an additional HK$45-50. Quite pricey for one person, but the serving of fried is generous, so it's worth sharing. The total for two burgers was around HK$250. The burgers were brought to our table within 10-15 mins. At first glance, I was very surprised with the size of the burger. It's diameter was a little bit smaller than that of my hand - so not small at all! Being in Central, I was expecting a teeny tiny burger, but Big Fernand exceeded my expectations. Let me cut to the chase. The Bartholomé was a delicious burger. One of the best I've tried in Hong Kong. For one, the burger bun doesn't get soggy and holds it shape even when you're downing the juicy parts of the hamburger. My medium burger patty came out medium, and was tender and flavorful. Seared on the outside, light pink on the inside. The raclette cheese, carmelized onions, and crispy bacon, oh my god. The bacon was slight too hard and burnt for my taste, but if you prefer your bacon that way, then the Bartholomé is for you! I tried The Victor, the veal patty EVEN MORE tender than the beef, but wasn't a big fan of the cilantro in the burger. The fries, excellently seasoned and perfect. I need not say more. So all in all, Big Fernand is worth the splurge given the quality and the generous portion size.

Surprisingly, it was really good! When you bite into it the egg yolk burst and runs through the entire burger. The burger meat was good beef, not a crappy beef patty. The sauce was key. If you think that's subjective then they have a set for 68 bucks carry out during lunch: burger, fries, drink.
