I didn't have the ribs but they sure looked good. The jerk chicken was disappointing because while it was cooked perfectly and tasted good, it didn't have any real jerk seasoning!! The fries were fine and the coleslaw lacked any punch in the flavor department. I did enjoy the beef patties. While they were different from what I am used to, they flavor was good and the sauce it comes with is amazing. The staff was super friendly and I would come back to try the ribs for sure.

The longing for these flavors was something I would have just ignored till I found some way to get back to America, but thanks to a quick search on Yelp, I now have an option. A tasty one at that. The place like so many others in HK is extremely small. Tallboy table tops line along the wall for groups, while the bar is a flurry of drink action from end to end. This creates very little space for people to move through, which is especially tight on the weekend when this place is packed to the gills. Hence, I find myself here more often on the weekday afternoons when there is some breathing room. From the "Lil' Tings" (appetizers / small bites) section, I've had some really good success with the Dutty Doubles, which consists of bara and chick pea curry. The Callaloo & Cassava Chips with lump crab meat are a special treat -- the spinach and okra stew make for a nice veggie option. The Jammin' Potato Salad is indeed jammin', while the potatoes are soft and just perfectly creamy. My favorite is the Macaroni Pie, which might not be as cheesy as I like, but the smoked cheddar and nutmeg make for a potent comfort food punch. I haven't had much luck with the Conch Salad, Beef (both veggie and meaty) Patties, or the Booyaka Cole Slaw. The Ragga Muffins (cornbread) has its moments, but it is more filling than it is tasty. I am really hoping to try the Saltfish Accra at some point, but I'll have to reserve that for a future visit. The main courses ("Tings") are an interesting mix of seafood and veggie options. The Jamrock Jerk Chicken is wonderfully spiced and is grilled quite well. Adding a nice kick to the juicy chicken is their tamarind aioli, which complements the dish nicely. I have also had their Puri Roti options a few times (eggplant, goat, and dahl versions) with great success. I would have skipped the Stuffed Sole had I known the portions were that small and the Stickly Island Ribs have been a hit with my friends for a long time. The other notoriety that Rummin' Tings is known for is their array of fantastic drinks. Their signature cocktails are worth checking out (Coco Libre is extremely refreshing and the Lawd Ah Mercy is remarkably potent) and the pitchers of rummy' drinks ranging from mojitos to punches are a great way to share the love in a group. And just as the name would suggest, their rum selection is excellent. Appleton Estate anyone? Service charge isn't included, so they're really pushing the tipping culture for better service. So far, I've experienced friendly faces and awesome bartenders. I give kudos to the wait staff for zipping through the narrow pathway and appreciate that they always have the AC on blast. And of course, when in doubt ask for Loretta. She's the engine that keeps this ship sailing smoothly.

I post a picture of its lobby as I would never be able to spot it without Google map. As we took the elevator up to the second floor, we could hear all the chatters before the door is opened. We were shocked once the door is opened. This place is vibing!! We didn't make a reservation at all. We got there around 8pm on a Thursday night. We were seated immediately. All the staff are super friendly and funny. We ordered a bunch of food and a few bottles of beers. What a fun night with great food! We will certainly come back when we are back to Hong Kong.

See photos. lobster, abalone, crab, sushi....you name it... done in small batches to maintain freshness. Remember to save room for dessert. Well worth the $600 or so cost per person. Mustafa (hopefully this is spelled correctly) was: kind, attentive, incredibly speedy, and inhumanly composed. An absolute delight to have as a server, and frankly while my review isn't particularly positive, I would have found the experience to be borderline 1 star just based on the actual flavors of the food relative to the pricing if not for him having saved the experience. If I could do this dinner again, I would honestly order less food, as you get the same view whether you order a single tasting menu and grab some takeout elsewhere afterwards, but at face value the flavors seemed bold yet feasible, as though they could turn out well depending on the execution. In reality we ended up spending approximately $1200HKD per person on a tasting menu that had one to two memorable items each. We actually spent an additional $98HKD on a dish that neither one of us felt compelled to finish. The second course tempura was more interesting flavor-wise than either of our mains, in part due to the chili infused tempura sauce doing a lot of heavy lifting. We are not generally fine dining individuals, it is an occasion we reserve for special events (this was our anniversary), but we do have enough experience to know that the execution of these dishes was miles away from a single Michelin star, yet commanded prices well above most of the one-star restaurants we've visited. The waiter took plenty of photos to commemorate the experience, and we managed to see both the 8PM "city of lights" show on the businesses spread along the harbor, as well as a fascinating lightning storm directly in front of us in a massive panoramic, which should lead to an unforgettable night, but the quality of the food left us grasping at straws to find silver linings. I wish I could remember this experience more fondly, but every time a family member asks whether we enjoyed the food, we struggle to muster any enthusiasm and at roughly $2,800HKD after 10% service charge I can't help but wish we had gone elsewhere to get better food and just visited some sort of observation deck instead.
