You might notice a pattern with our Michelin star meals. They're usually at lunch where you get 75% of the food for 50% of the price! Arcane was a great meal. While seared scallops are a bit boring for us, these were done to perfection. Perfect texture and a great sauce underneath them. The gnocchi were perfect little, light pillows of potato and pasta. They were cooked to perfection and paired with some truffle, forget about it. Amazing dish. The wagyu with white asparagus was absolutely divine. It was so tender, if melted in my mouth. Perfectly marbled and fatty. Great lunch at Arcane. Taste: **** Service: *** Ambiance: *** ------------------------------ Arcane 3/F, 18 On Lan St, Central, Hong Kong --------------------------

I've been wanting to come to Arcane for a while and finally found an opportunity to go for the weekday lunch. The lunch set consists of three courses with an app, main, and choice of dessert. The food showcases high quality ingredients through simple preparations and building layers of flavor. Food: 4 stars Service: 4.5 stars Environment: 4 stars The meal starts off with bread and salted & unsalted butter. The bread here is some of the best I have had in Hong Kong. I had 3 pieces and had to control myself from eating more. I opted for the poached salmon with beetroot as my choice of appetizer. This was my favorite of the lunch set. The broth, aromatics, and beetroot really meshed well with the salmon. I would definitely order this again. The second course was the pan fried snapper in a beurre bland sauce. The fish was a bit on the over side for what was intended. The sauce was a star of the dish and the fish was a vessel for the sauce. The asparagus and potatoes were real nice as well. For dessert I had the poached peach with vanilla ice cream. The peach is served in a strawberry and rhubarb veloute. The dessert was too sweet for my liking with the veloute being too overpowering. The ice cream and peaches were nice but wish I had more in proportion to the veloute.

However all of this as let down by service that slowed to a crawl as the restaurant filled up as the night progressed. The words "affordable", "tasty" and "European" never usually go together so I thought it was worth checking out Hong Kong's newest kid on the block. I was welcomed in by two lovely waitresses and was sat at a wooden table by the floor-to-ceiling window. The decor is clean and simple with dark blue and grey walls and a large window peering into the kitchen. It's a pretty small venue, so I can imagine it getting quite busy in the evenings, but for the late lunch that I had at 1.30, there were only 3 other tables dining. Two courses come at HKD 190 while three courses come at HKD 245 (bread and drinks not included) - Affordable? Check! I was going to order their bread as it was an actual item on the menu, but when I asked my waitress what was unique about it, she said that both the butter and bread were home made. For HKD 45 though? I passed. I decided on my waitress's recommendation of the charred brassicas (additional HKD 30) and the braised beef shortrib (additional HKD 40). The brassicas came as a mix of cabbage and kale. The char was light, adding a nice crispy texture and smoky flavour to an otherwise mundane pair of vegetables. Shredded truffles were added on top which were very subtle in flavour and a pool of hollandaise was poured into the middle dish. When mixed together, everything came together very well, but what really shone through, which isn't mentioned in the menu, is the blueberry vinaigrette. This put this salad on to a different level and gave it the extra kick that it needed to feel complete. It brought the dish alive and gave it the imagination it needed. Modern European? Check! The braised beef shortib came soaked in it's sauce surrounded by a string of fermented mustard greens and roasted potatoes. The beef fell apart and was beautifully tender. The fat melted in my mouth and tasted fantastic by itself. The greens were a little too salty for my liking which came from the fermentation. I feel had the mustard flavour been added more, it would have tasted better. The roasted potatoes were cooked to perfection, being crispy on the outside but tasted a little dull and could have done with some seasoning. However, when I tasted the beef together with the potato, this really came together very well. The crispiness of the potato complemented with the softness of the beef and the sauce from the braised meat gave the potato the additional flavour that it needed. Tasty? Check! For Hong Kong, this is a fantastic deal. The quality is high, the price is low and the vibes are neither pretentious but clean. I really hope it doesn't follow the path of other great restaurants in Hong Kong of starting off great, then raising it's prices and lowering the quality - that would be really upsetting to see. Beet is a great place for a business lunch or a date and I am definitely looking forwards to coming back to try the rest of the menu! Believe the rumours - there really IS an affordably, tasty, modern European restaurant in town!

Initially was recommended this place by a friend because of its roof hop section and location in the heart of Mong Kok along with occasional live music performances. They have set dinners as well as al la carte. Started off with a smoked salmon kale salad along with a cheesy chorizo baked mushroom. Both were pretty standard but portions were appropriate for a light appetizer. The highlight of my meal was the truffle mushroom linguine! Had to add some additional salt and pepper but there was a generous serving of various types of mushrooms and truffle on top! The cream sauce was also very quite delicious and the truffle flavor wasn't too overwhelming. Also tried the octopus risotto! It was combination of squid ink black risotto with spanish paella. The grilled octopus itself was huge although not as tender as I had hoped. I still very much enjoyed the over overall super seafood-y flavor. The rooftop area was still clean and well lit. Loved how you get a background of old HK buildings while enjoying western fusion/more modern dishes. I've also heard this place features really cute cocktails include one with a bubble/mist. Service was pretty standard. Dinner can be pricey but comparable to many other restaurants; their lunch sets seem much more budget friendly.

Comfortable, spacious setting with premium shisha. A treat after visiting a busy area like Mongkok!read more

This place is slightly more expensive for breakfast that the JW Marriott (and its in the same building but with a separate entrance) but it's got an amazing view and the food is delicious. The place is super chill, good background music and good vibes from the staff. It also has a chill vibe in the way that it's laid out, there's a feeling of openness. Maybe that feeling has to do with the epic view however. A few seats are in window corners where you get a great panorama view. Other seats are internal but still have a good view from a distance. I would go back, if for no other reason just for the fact that I had something I've never had before anyplace and it was really good. They have an eggs Benedict with short ribs in place of the ham. It's a Hong Kong take on the dish. We also had the pastries and muffins to share for the table. All were amazing.

I rewarded myself with a meal here on my last night in Hong Kong after a week of endless workdays. Took some hyping myself up to dine solo at a Michelin starred restaurant (in Asia, no less, where eating is very much a social event and the judgments passed upon solo diners, especially female diners, would put Mean Girls to shame), but being able to stroll to the restaurant from my room without exiting the building took the edge off. The food was definitely inventive but I am not sure if this is worth the hype. Some parts of it felt gimmicky (fish and chips was good, but for ex., the "petit four" which was a giant chocolate ball meant to imitate the ferrero rocher would never be my choice over an actual ferrero rocher). Service was attentive if a little fussy (I was sent off from dinner by a waiter who wished me a good rest as I looked tired. Valid - I had been working 13+ hour days for a month straight.)

We came here on a Tuesday night celebrating my friend's birthday. It was such an excellent dining experience! First thing I've got to say is the service here is above and beyond. From the head chef @willy_cuisinier, the staffs that took care of us, everyone was so nice and caring. The food was amazing too. We both ordered the ten courses from the omakase menu and the wine pairing. My favorite dishes are the Uni Lobster, Sakana and all the desserts!!! Basically every dish has the components I look for. And all the ingredients taste fresh. Plus the platings are gorgeous too every dish is so unique and creative. ------------------------------------ 1st course - Japanese Tomato 4/5 It's very refreshing starter. It comes with the granita and the jelly on the bottom. All of the flavors worked so well with the tomato. 2nd course - Caviar 4/5 Japanese Yam, marusho rice vinegar, Caviar. It was very nice indeed. Soft and delicate. 3rd course - Aubergine 4/5 Very beautiful presentation and it was tasty with the nori sauce. And it goes very well with the sake! 4th course - Sakana 5/5 The fish was cooked at its perfection, so soft and juicy with full of taste. One of the tastiest pieces of fish I had ever eaten. And the broth so good that you wanted to soak it up with anything available. 5th course - Japanese Sweet Onion 3/5 The sweet onion was good. The dumpling broth was light not too heavy and creamy. 6th course - Lobster (+$178 add Uni) 5/5 Add Uni is a MUST if you're an UNI fan like me!! Believe me it was worth every penny. The whole dish was very satisfying and mouth watering. So fresh. And it had perfect texture and delightful flavors. It's like an explosion in your mouth. Main courses - Guinea Fowl and Wagyu Beef A4 (+$228) 4/5 I really like the French chicken with the harissa sauce and grape jam. It was flavorful, juicy and tender. The subtle flavor of this dish is so comforting. And the Saga Wagyu beef was cooked on point and very juicy as well. Loved the nori as well. Both dishes paired very well with the Merlot. Dessert - Momo 5/5, Chocolate 5/5 , Miso 5/5 I can't even pick my favorite. I don't really like sweets but I loved all these. They were incredible and tasty. Momo, a peach dessert with candied hibiscus and roses. Sour and sweet. Great paired with the complimentary liqueur peach. Thank you! Chocolate, loved this magical pairing of three different types of matcha and chocolate. It's really pair well together, making for a slightly nutty, sweet, and bitter combo. Miso, White Chocolate Shiso Choux. I ate so many Choux cream puffs before. But this was so delicious! The filling for this Choux is to die for! Hahahaha Loved every dish and can't wait to come back here again!! Service (Excellent service) Ambience (the decor is beautiful, chic, modern, relaxing) Food (Incredible, delicious)
