I was excited to try Carbone's Hong Kong location since my whole family love to go to their NYC location. Luckily it was much easier to reserve a table in Hong Kong than the one in NYC. First off it was kind of hiding inside a commercial building. It required an uphill climb before reaching there. If you are planning to take your elderly friends or parents, I strongly encouraged taking a taxi there. We were greeted by a friendly hostess as soon as we stepped out of the elevator. The whole place was elegant and tasteful arts were hanging on the walls throughout the whole dinning room. It was lavishly decorated. The staffs were attentive and friendly. However I found it funny that the majority of the staffs only spoke English. It was kind of ironic that we had to speak English in a Cantonese speaking island. Of course we had to order Caesar Salad and Spicy Rigatoni because they are the two popular dishes at Carbon. Caesar salad was made in front of you and the waiter told us he flown to their NYC location to master the skill of making this salad. I was ensured everything was as good as their NYC location. The salad was fresh and crunchy; it was a combination of Baby Romaine lettuce, garlicky croutons and shaved cheese tossed in a rich tangy creamy dressing. Every bite was covered with a right amount of freshly made flavorful dressing. The mouth watering Spicy Rigatoni was so irresistible. The creamy spicy tomato sauce blended beautifully with the pasta. It was so delicious and addictive. I would not leave Carbon without eating its Spicy Rigatoni. We also tried the Veal Parmesan but it was kind of a disappointment because the meat was too dry and tough. The saving grace was that it was still full of flavor. We did have a good dinning experience there. I think it is a good restaurant for a romantic dinner or special occasions. It was as pricy as their NYC location but the food wasn't as good though. I just couldn't resist to compare both places. So for all the Carbon fans, it would be nice to visit this location because you might have a different opinion about it. read more

Eating a meal here feels like I'm in a scene from Godfellas. The atmosphere of old school New York Italian restaurant is captured well here. The food is really quite good and the service is also excellent as well. The pricing is where your eyes will jump out of your head. An order of meatballs will set you back 268 hkd and a side of broccoli over 130 hkd. The food is good but it's tough to stomach the price tag if you aren't here on a business meal. We opted for the rigatoni with vodka sauce, the ribeye and bananas a la rum. 1) Rigatoni with vodka sauce- coming to a American Italian restaurant and not ordering this seemed like a shame. Good thing is that the dish is down well. The vodka sauce is nice and creamy and the pasta is cooked well and had a little bite to it. 2) Rib eye Diane - The rib eye is cooked and served in a really luscious mushroom sauce. The sauce really makes the dish. The steak itself was slightly a bit tough and had a few cuts with too much fat. However, I did really enjoy this dish. 3) Bananas a la rum- my favorite thing I had. Bananas are flambéd in a rum sauce and then poured over three scoops of ice cream and cake. Vanilla cookies are crumbled over the dessert to provide some texture and crunch for the dessert. A breathe of fresh air! A good break from eating all the Asian food! My favorite thing here was the Caesar salad! Simple, but delicious. I really liked their presentation where they put it together in front of you. It also helps that it's tasty! The pasta dishes and meatballs were also yummy! I have no complaints about this place. The food is good, the service is excellent, it wasn't too crowded, and the decor made me feel like I was home in the US! I am not a big fan of tiramisu, but their version here is pretty good! They have a cart of desserts that they roll to your table that suckers you in! It's quite impressive because it looks like it was baked that day! It's not a plastic version of the dessert! read more

Yes, I had Italian in Hong Kong! I had to write a review because not only do I love to share my experiences but because I couldn't find many yelpers recommending restaurants in Hong Kong! We have dined in Carbone, New York. If you have been there before you'll know reservations are not easy. Being we were in Hong Kong and were craving some pasta, we decided to call and were able to get same day reservations on a Saturday night without a problem. The hostess that answered was very accommodating and truly wonderful. We called a few times because we were lost and she was able to explain to the driver how to get there. If you are not a local or go with a local you will not find this place easily! We arrived to the dark building, entered the elevator and arrived to the 9th floor. As soon as the doors opened there were people crowing the hostess stand. We gave our name and the hostess greeted us and brought us to our table immediately. We were seated by the bar dining /area and were immediately attended to. We ordered their infamous cesar salad (without the anchovies) I don't know what happen but it was very salty! The waitress offered to replace it but our carpaccio has just arrived and we said it was ok. The carpaccio was delicious. We ordered our favorite, the spicy rigatoni. It was very good but it was definitely not as good as the one in New York. When the check arrived, the salad had been removed with out me even asking. Our waitress was very friendly and the food came out on time it was just not "Carbone" for me. Overall it was a good experience, my italian craving was satisfied after traveling 16 days between Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou . My fav things about this place: 1. Spicy vodka rigatoni pasta. MUST ORDER. 2. Garlic bread, top it up if you want more! 3. Staff and quality of service. They do a good job with singing happy birthday songs, I mean they really look like they love singing that bloody song. They contribute to the good vibe of the place. 4. To add on my last comment - great for group gatherings - people were there for birthdays, hens night, and all sorts of celebration. Don't come here for date night. Venetian seafood didn't impress me, Florence pasta was nice but I will die for new York italian. Those best memories stays in Lower East side and Little Italy. but I didn't go to carbone there. We went as a party of 10. Pre- ordered set menu. My coworker avoided steak as I don't eat beef.(how sweet) and yes, I am.exixited and ready to digging in my toast. The toast is laid with tomato paste and pesto. Amazing. Then mozzarella tomato, grilled pork salad. that piggy is perfect juicy. Italian handles pork to heaven. Pasta! Fusilli con funghi is rich with a homemade style. Exactly what I haven't been longing for. And let us ignore the plain Fennel Pomodoro. Mains! I fell in love with pork here, hands down for the pork chop. I cannot stop having it! The chicken is just average. The scallop is seasoned to that "grandma recipe" though not my favorite. The dessert came with lemon tart, carrot cake with carrot ice cream ...too much, beg me here. Hmmmm, I would rather watch out for some cheese platter. We had a great time at Carbone! The restaurant's interior is a little kitschy (red velvet, murals, etc.) but it certainly elicits old New York feels, and adds to the boisterous atmosphere of the restaurant. The servers are friendly, chatty, and accommodating, if not the most attentive. The spicy rigatoni vodka is a must try. While it is not the best vodka sauce I've had, it was one of the better pastas I've had in Asia so far. We were also extremely pleased with the New York strip steak. In all, I highly recommend this restaurant for a fun night out, whether you're dining with just one person or with a big group. read more

My friend texted me saying she booked Carbone on the second week of its opening when I was traveling in Italy for 2 weeks. My immediate response was... "really?? I am tired of Italian food and I can only eat Chinese/ Asian food for a month when I come home." Of course we didn't go elsewhere as my friend made a lot of effort trying to book a table. Being super spoiled by authentic Italian food and wine on my trip, I must have to say Carbone set a new standard of Italian restaurants in Hong Kong. During my trip, I've been thinking all those so-called Italian restaurants in Soho were crap, but I've found my favorite Italian restaurant in Hong Kong. Carbone was brought to Hong Kong from New York City in August 2014. The ambience and the staff just make you feel like you're eating in a chic restaurant in NYC. Being welcomed by the hostess just right outside of the elevator, she led me to the bar for a drink while I was waiting for my friends. I courteously rejected the offer and went straight to the table as I knew we were going to open a few bottles of wine. Carbone has a very expansive wine list from different regions in Italy. Although my favorite wine is still Tuscan wine, I was happy to try wine from other regions. My wine expert friends had a great time chatting with the sommelier discussing what wine to pair with our food. Needless to say, the food was excellent. We ordered too many dishes, including garlic bread, lobster, ribeye, some pasta and more. I'm not going to say too much about each individual dish, as I don't think I need to give anyone any expectation. Everything was just amazing. People always say there's a second stomach for dessert. I'm quite an abnormal girl who never really care about desserts. My guy friend wanted to try the carrot cake and we all shared one despite the fact that our bellies were already super full. Carbone is a superb restaurant, full stop. Service is great especially when the waiters warm up and have a little banter with you. Wine suggestions can be on the high side however with a bit of guidance on the price and palate the sommelier will help you find a super wine to accompany your meal without breaking the bank. New York Italian family-sized dishes are meant to be shared, so bring your friends and their credit cards and you'll have a great time. First and foremost, the food is excellent. Dining at Carbone is perfect for groups. The menu features several courses, so family style dining is encouraged. A group of four can get a couple of appetizers, a salad, a couple of pasta dishes, a main and dessert. That will not only satisfy any appetite, it will also give you the opportunity to try a variety of dishes. If you're undecided on what to get, your waiter will be happy to make suggestions that I found to be right on point. The star of our meal was the rigatoni, but we also had excellent tortellini, chicken, octopus and Caesar salad. The desserts were surprisingly underwhelming, but the main courses were so good, I'll give them a pass. The seating area is large and open, and there were several large groups. You seriously have no idea how excited I was to hear that Carbone was going to open a branch in Hong Kong. And what is better than opening up at LKF Tower which is so close to where I work? Opened in early August, Carbone Hong Kong is a famous restaurant in New York that is heavily inspired by the Italian restaurants in 1950s in the States. I have never tried the original one but my friends have told me so much about that and I was just so excited to know that finally I got to try this. The first thing that caught my attention was the atmosphere; it is a mixture of modernity and a bit classical with leather chairs and chandeliers hanging from the roof. The ambience is refreshing and seems to bring diners to the last century of New York. The food here as expected, is Italian slash New York cuisine like veal, linguini, clams etc. I especially loved the way they did with the baked clams. They were rich in taste and juicy enough. Together with the white wine, they just blended so well together. The staff here also are very friendly and attentive and serve in a professional manner. When asked about the ingredients and how the food are cooked, they could answer you in great details, which I find that very nice. One of the best italian placed in HK for me at the moment. Yea, its pricey and yea its fancy, but the food delivers. Starters include some cold cuts and cheese and bread. The complimentary bread was a bit hard and dry, but the cheese was delicious. Meatballs, veal parm, lobster ravioli were AMAZING. The table next to us also got some sizzling pancetta dish that smelled wonderful. They ended the evening with a shot of limoncello for the table- nice touch. Indeed stylish restaurant feeling like returned Italy. All I remembered was the originality of tomato used in the pasta which lighted up everything. Wonderful wine list enough to entertain a romantic night. Only problem was too many ppl went to this restaurant for their significant other's birthday - and all staff would circle you up to sing a very loud !-day song. My Dad, younger brother and a family friend went to visit the place which came recommended to us. We didn't have a reservation though but we were politely greeted by the Manager, Franco, who said he would take care of it. In the meantime, while waiting for a table, we hit the bar. The friendly and outgoing bartender immediately offered us our drinks of choice with a smile. He chatted us up and even offered some bites on the house. The manager returned to join us also for a drink and to have a nice chat with us until our table was arranged. At this point, we were pleasantly surprised at how friendly and service-oriented these two were. Upon sitting down, our Nepalese waiter took our orders and was very good at recommending items which he felt were suited for our tastes. The sommelier also offered some wines for us to try but we politely declined as we were already enjoying the drinks we took from the bar. He also politely said "no problem" and then offered to get more drinks from the bar if we wished to order more. The water and the sommelier were also in constant but non-intrusive checks on our table from time to time all the way to dessert. By dessert, the manager returned to check up on us and asked if everything was ok. At this point, we were so impressed by their service and asked the manager to join us for a drink on us this time. Franco and his staff really took the time to check on us and like VIPs. Never intruding, but making sure things were served hot and as advertised. My dad who was a former hotelier really commended them and their service as this "old-school-hands-on"personal approach of this level was very hard to come by in this day and age. We gladly paid the bill and were thoroughly satisfied on all levels. On the way out, we promised to write a good review because we thought we had to share this wonderful experience made great by good food, a nice environment and best of all, great staff service and personality. We all took a nice photo with them before the manager walked us to the elevator and wished us well. If you ever come by this place, do have a reservation though, but most of all, have a look out for the manager. This is my second time here, and I have mixed feelings about this wonderful NYC establishment. Food quality wise, definitely would be five stars, and one of the best New York Italian joints in town. Atmosphere is top notch, with decor and music that brings you away from Hong Kong. That said, it's definitely a place for a group rather than a date. Food wise, it's definitely the epitome of comfort food. Mario's Meatballs are a must. The spicy vodka rigatoni is awesome, and steak and veal Parmesan are also great. Desserts are the highlights for me. The banana flambé is their signature, and not only is this a spectacle (as they prepare it in front of your table, flaming pyrotechnics and all), it is delicious, with a wonderful balance of rum splashed on the ice cream and banana chunks. The other favorite of mine is the cheesecake. Why only four stars? The first time I was there, our whole table ended up getting food poisoning. While I think this is something exceptionally rare especially for a restaurant of this calibre, and we got a full refund of the meal (and I haven't heard other people get it and it didn't happen the second time I am here), it marks as a stain to what would otherwise been a pretty perfect experience. I really like this place. I think it's just a bit on the salty side and good for smaller groups like 4-5. I love the beef carpaccio and the pastas. Veal is also good. My favorite dessert is the lemon cheesecake. I am not a big fan of the tiramisu. But I would recommend this place if you're craving italian. Yummy! read more

Our party of five Americans dined at Carbone's last Saturday evening. Since most of our group is from the NY area we believe we know Italian food. Carbone's is second to none in authentic Italian cuisine ---what a surprise in Hong Kong. Let's start with the look and overall feel of the restaurant. The ambiance is terrific. The bar area is too small, however, to accommodate the overflow crowd, but the bartender makes one heck of a manhattan. We were escorted to a beautiful round table for five in a quite corner of this bustling place. The noise level was manageable. We shared two excellent salads--caprese and Caesar. Our main courses were all delicious including pasta with clam sauce, chicken scarpiello( sic), the fish special and the meatballs. We shared two spectacular desserts. Overall the food was fantastic as was the service. Service was efficient, friendly and knowledge. The sommelier assisted in finding an excellent and reasonably priced bottle from the extensive and expensive wine list. I love all things vintage, and walking into Carbone is like being transported back in time. Dinner at Carbone is definitely a treat. My friend had been wanting to try this place since hearing about it opening, so we booked (one week in advance) to go on a Saturday night. We were early for our booking, so we had time to go to the bar and ordered some whiskey sours before we were seated. The cocktails all looked very interesting, and the WS was just the right consistency of frothy whiskey goodness. We ordered the baked clams and pancetta to start, then the penne pomodoro and the veal parmesan. The portions are HUGE and we had to pack half of the veal home. The food at this place is delicious, served in beautiful tableware by friendly, attentive staff, but not pretentious. If you want to see some dessert lit on fire and have your wine decanted table-side, then this a great place to go. read more

Carbone was the type of place the waiters addressed only the men when speaking to the whole table (pretty evenly mixed between guys and girls). All night it was "How are we doing, gentlemen?"
