They call fried chicken here Chicken Joy, and boy are they right, the chicken is pure joy!
Being a Filipino chain, many local HKers avoid coming to this place as if there is some stigma attached or perhaps it is too crowded on Sundays (when Filipino maids have their day off). This is a huge loss because Jolibee does amazing fried chicken, and yes better than KFC for sure, right up there with Restoration (Jack's fried chicken), Popeye's and though in my opinion not as good as the Diner's buttermilk fried chicken, it gives them a run for their money and speaking of money, they are much cheaper - a Chicken Joy meal will cost you around HKD 40. The chicken you get is less seasoned, much fatter and oilier than usual KFC ones and MUCH crunchier.
Also, I don't think it's a fluke where I've only been once and happened to get the fresh batch - I've been multiple occasions and the quality has been consistent. I've tried the other menu items like the burgers and hotdogs, and it could be my HK/Western palate, but I won't be ordering anything else here again but the chicken. But I will definitely be back over and over again for that Chicken Joy. read more
