My family and I try to go to every international McDonalds while traveling. We were excited to try out HK McDonalds because we heard the fried chicken is good! We can here for late lunch before we go to Victoria Park. We walked up the stairs and first saw an ice cream station where people could order soft serve! The next set of stairs were all the multiple touchscreen kiosks and cash registers. We ordered through the touchscreen kiosks. We ordered the Matcha soft serve, Red Bean & Rice Cake pie, McSpicy Chicken Sandwich, Twister Fries, McWings, and Bucket of Chicken. I was looking for the Shake Shake fries, but I couldn't find them on the menu. We also ordered Iced fresh Lemon tea. We sat on the 3rd floor which had plenty of seated tables. Once we found a table, we noticed you could order through the QR code on the designated table. This location was pretty clean and organized. I appreciate that the staff are quick to clean up all the tables. Our favorite items were the Twister fries, Matcha soft serve, and the bucket of chicken! The chicken items were flavorful and juicy! We thought the chicken was better than what KFC in the US offers for chicken. The twister fries are essential curly fries, but we thought it was a nice spin compared to the french fries. The match soft serve had good matcha flavor, and who doesn't like McDonald's soft serve?! Overall, had a great experience at HK McDonalds!

Five Guys has a fun ambience and they offer fun things like unlimited free peanuts and free sofa refills, which pay for themselves after you have I'm guessing you get your third refill, and a massive smile from your dentist. Anyway, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with a salted caramel milkshake. I had their milkshakes before during a conference at USC, and I found it a bit too sweet. Erroneously assuming that I just had a milkshake that had a slightly overzealous serving of caramel syrup, I gave it another try. I have to admit that I like a thick milkshake, but it seems that Five Guys just makes them far too sweet! I might just forego the milkshakes next time. As for the burger, do they HAVE to serve it in a paper bag? I was eating it in there, I'd have been perfectly fine with them hurling the burger at me with just the wrapper. Considering how they ship those bags from Wisconsin, it makes me feel even worse about wasting the packaging. The burger was okay. I like that the bacon was nice and crispy, but the patties had a texture that suggested that they were processed (duh, fast food), but what bugged me the most was that I had 4 slices of American cheese, and none of those slices were melted. Like seriously, how could you not melt a cheese that was literally designed for grilled cheese and burgers because of how melty they are? By not melting the cheese, the American cheese gave off its characteristically slimy texture. Service is friendly, and efficient, but please don't tell me that it's standard policy to leave cheese on a burger unmelted. I pay a lot more here than I would if I went to McDonalds. I think I have the right to expect better.

I personally don't care for this chain in the US, most of EU, or anywhere in SE Asia, but this particular outlet is a stand-out. After going down the stairs there's McCafé or regular McDonald's to choose from. You can either order what you want from the many kiosks or order from a staff. On this particular occasion I went with the Matcha Red Bean Layer Cake and Soy Milk Matcha. There's a deal when you order a large drink plus a cake that the layer cake drops from $29 to $18. I like that I was able to pay with my Octopus (transportation card, like the Presto in the GTA) so that I didn't have to look for the correct amount of change. The layer cake tasted of match but it was a very subtle flavour. The red beans were a nice addition. The soy milk matcha had a heavier flavour of matcha and was quite smooth. When I sat down I noticed that there's wireless chargers on the tops of the high top tables as well as USB ports on the side. I wasn't able to connect to WiFi this time but I appreciate being able to charge my phone after taking lots of photos during the day.

The interior is modern and bright. Customers leave their trays and trash on the tables for the staff to clean. The confusion is that the Cafe items are served from the Cafe side while the coffee, orange juice, and regular McDonald's items are served from the McDonald's counter even though we ordered from the Cafe counter. No worries. We figured it out! We shared the Corn & Cheesy Mushroom Toast. It was good enough to fill our tummies for now. On our second visit, we had the local dish, Macaroni soup. I had mine with ham and my friend had hers with sausage. It was plain, simple, and comforting. I want to return for the cute bunny dessert and the Mango drink which is served after 11am from the Cafe side. We'll be back - especially for the air conditioning! Onto more foodie adventures!!!

However, if you hadn't made a reservation and couldn't get in, there's plenty of other restaurants in what is called food street with each one offering a patio as well. Since food street is like a wide alley that runs between all these buildings that house high-end boutiques on the ground floors, you would not be subjected to the noise and exhaust of HK traffic. The layout is quite casual, with a mix of couples and families. The menu is quite extensive with fresh oysters from different countries. We sampled two different varieties from Ireland. There's also a tapas page offering things from garlic shrimps to iberico ham. We ordered the foie gras sandwiched between toasts. It was quite good if a little rich. One of our friends had a soup of the day which was butter squash. It came with a piece of tomato-rubbed toast, Spanish style. He liked it. We also ordered a Caesar salad for two which was large enough for the four of us to sample. A solid salad but lacked a bit of dressing. When we mentioned it to the waiter, he brought out more dressing on the side. For our mains, my GF and one of our friends ordered ordered the Iberico pork chops grilled and served with roasted potatoes and half a head of roasted garlic. The two chops were juicy and tender with a hint of sweetness from the balsamic glaze. The chops were part of the daily special which I also ordered off. I had a pasta with prawns and scallops. The pasta was tasty with three large prawns. My only quibble would be that I wish there were more scallops as I only got two. Our other friend ordered off the menu and had a seafood stew that featured clams, mussels, scallops, and half a lobster. It was huge. Now I know where my scallops went! All in all, a nice meal in a nice setting without breaking the bank.
