    Best shark fins

The best Shanghai restaurant in Hong Kong. Shark fins looks like noodles. The taste, service and presentation. Very unique

This is an outstanding Shanghai restaurant in Hong Kong Tsim Sha Tsui area. All dim sums are excellent! Service is extraordinary and all waiters are hospitable. Highly recommend the 生煎包 baos.

The smoked egg and walnuts was ok. Sesame green onion pancake wasn't bad, but I was expecting the thin flaky green onion pancake. This was more like fried silver thread bread with green onion. The shrimp was good. Xiao Long Bao was good. Wonton soup was good. The best was their green beans and I call it the Chinese hamburger. The Chinese hamburger is beef with soup inside a thin skin that is pan fried.

Ordered the smoked egg with walnut and oh my, it was definitely smokey. The ham wrapped in bread was ok. I think the ham was too dried. As for the crispy chicken, it was delicious. Overall, the service was great. We got a soup dish and the waiter always came back to refilled our bowl. So, I came rather early and it wasn't pack at all. But it got packed around 7pm here on a Monday night. Therefore, make sure to make a reservation if you are planning to come late.

Smoked egg with walnut (cold dish) - just average

The name says it all Hong Kong "Old" Restaurant. This is an upscale old school restaurant with a classic Shanghainese menu. This is the Shanghainese food equivalent of an American old fashioned steak house, comfortable, but not necessarily exciting. The service is attentive, the decor traditional chinese, and while the food was good, it was on the boring end of the spectrum for my tastes.

    Thinly sliced pig's ears

Great place. Large room with a noisy but friendly atmosphere. Had thinly sliced pig's ears (cold appetizer), shrimp with chili sauce, and a whole fried yellowjack (fish) in sweet and sour sauce. Traditional Chinese menu in the Shanghai style.

A Michelin star doesn't necessarily impress me. However, this restaurant can back up its star. The shredded chicken with bean jelly noodles and peanut sauce was tremendous. The chicken was delicate and shredded nicely, while the peanut sauce wasn't overwhelming. Nothing seemed overshadowed. The siu long bao is legit and can contend as one of the best. Yup, dare I say it, Ye Shanghai's offering of the classic is up there with Din Tai Fung. The skin was thin, but not sticky or dry. The skin also held the meat and juice quite nicely. The filling itself was flavorful but not greasy. The har gao here was actually quite good as well. Having a carrot underneath was interesting but the dumpling itself was not too starchy. The shrimp was nicely steamed and not too tough. The thin pan fried noodles with soy sauce was, again, not too greasy but having lots of soy flavor. It wasn't too salty and had good wok flavor. The fried chives pancakes/bun was flaky and delicious. I guess anything fried is at least flavorful but this wasn't too greasy. That's the theme for this restaurant: nothing seems to be a grease ball. The desserts were mostly western-style (with a theme of fusion), which was a bit of a change in the meal. Probably my favorite was the panna cotta with berry sauce. The panna cotta was smooth and creamy and the berry sauce was a sweet yet tart accompaniment. Another good one was the chestnut tiramisu with chocolate sorbet. A normal Asian flavor with the chestnut mixes well in a tiramisu. Lastly, the mango "napoleon" was a nice take on the traditional French dessert. The pastry used tofu skins instead of wafer-thin puff pastry and pastry cream was replaced with mango. The exception to the western-dominated desserts was this Chinese sweet soup which was tremendous. I liked the combination of goji berries and longan in the soup. It was refreshing and sweet soup. Service wasn't obtrusive but rather polite and helpful. I was greeted nicely at the entrance and was helped a lot by the maitre d'hotel. Maybe speaking in Cantonese goes a long way. Just having tea here was delightful, as I liked the glasses served and the smooth flavor of the teas. (thanks so much Cora, Ah Foon, Diana, and Peter)

Moments like the captain carving the Peking Duck by our tableside; a team of servers bringing individual servings of King Crab Meat Sweet and Sour Soup to us; and a team bringing individual servings of desserts, were truly impressive!  It was fun that all those bowls came covered and were opened at about the same time. The food was phenomenal!  I have been craving for the crispy skins of the Suckling Pig, Peking Duck, and Crispy Tea Chicken since we left Spring Moon!  Those were so light, thin, and crispy... a true delight to enjoy!  The Pan-seared Star Garoupa(Grouper) was also memorable!  It had a light batter that had a nice crunch, the Grouper meat inside was so fresh, tasty, smooth, and cooked to perfection!  The Steamed Crab Claw with Egg White (although a bit pricey at HK$428 per person) that we got 9 orders of was a must try!  The Crab Claw was so big and plump, the meat fresh and flavorful, and the steamed egg white was smooth and tasty!  This dish really impressed everyone!  The only dish that I did not try was the Garlic Broccoli.  Why?  I have to save some room for dessert!  So, it was either broccoli or Baked Sago Pudding with Chestnut Paste, which is a labor-intensive yummy dessert that not too many restaurants have chefs that could/would make nowadays!  The pudding was so good, it had the right amount of sweetness, and the chestnut paste in the middle was creamy and tasty!   I already wish to have the above dishes again when I go to Hong Kong next time!  Actually, the whole dinner was a delight! The other dishes Crispy Bean Curd Rolls with Carrots and Black Mushrooms, Cold Jellyfish with Dark Vinegar, Signature Fried Rice, Vermicelli with Crab Meat all worth an honorary mention!  And we even got complimentary desserts!  Each person got a bite size piece of mango pudding cake, and an almond cookie, that was so crispy and fluffy and smelled so good! The Spring Moon is famous for its vast variety of tea.  We ordered Jasmin and Oolong to go with our dishes.  Each guest picked one of the two, that paired with the Cantonese food well. All in all, the dinner at Spring Moon was worth the money!  We were all stuffed with good food!  Everyone was happy and we, as hosts, were proud as well!

The skin was thin and delicate and the filling and soup were so savory and delicious. I had two and ordered another set just for me. I didn't even really need the sauce. :D PAN FRIED POTSTICKERS - This was super tasty and juicy inside, but watch out.. it's HOT! We were treated to some bottled still water and had some time to review the menu. We started with some Fuding Jasmine Dragon Pearl Tea 福鼎茉莉龍珠 which was aromatic and delicious. It was poured tableside alongside complimentary candied sesamed walnuts. For an appetizer, we opted for the Pan-fried bean curd sheet rolls with carrots and black mushrooms 香煎素鵝 (this is one of their chef recommendations 廚師推介). Their Charsiu was phenomenal and also a chef recommendation - Smoked barbecued Hungarian mangalica pork with honey 果木煙燻 匈牙利鬈毛豬叉燒. For a full meal, we chose the Fried flat rice noodles with Wagyu beef and onions in supreme soy 頭抽乾炒和牛河. The flavor was exquisite - deep, charred, evolved. And the texture was outstanding. The wagyu was so tender, it was difficult to distinguish it from the noodles! We passed on desert as we were on schedule to attend the orchestra across the street, but next time I'll plan to be here longer. Highly recommend. Be warned that this is an expensive meal, but you get what you pay for. We split all three and did not leave hungry.
