Fabulous food and fantastic service. When calling we weren't able to get a reservation but still decided to try to go there at 6pm and try our luck. It worked! All food was very well prepared, bringing Shanghainese food to a whole different level. For those who care about it, this place has been awarded a Michelin star. We tried a couple of pork ribs plates and they were all delicious. Also delicious was their prawns and their fried rice. Everything was great but the dessert... OH MY GOD!!! We had a dessert that had mango pudding, jasmine ice cream and some other stuff that was out of this world!! Prices were also not too bad considering the type of restaurant (about USD 40 a person). Will definitely go back!

A pretty good place for Shanghainese food. Everything tasted as expected and was good. The drunken chicken was as expected and traditional. I liked that it did not taste greasy. The shredded mandarin fish was excellent. Unique style of preparation and it almost didn't even taste like fish. The baked stuffed crab was excellent. This was quite simple and did not have a lot of added flavour but it was nice and fresh. Shanghai cabbage (bok choy) with bean curd in broth was a clean tasting dish. The braised short ribs were interesting - had a unique spice but just not my favourite. Lastly, we finished the meal with a black sesame creme brulee topped with peanut ice cream. I would have preferred the dessert to be a bit sweeter but i understand that the less sweet taste is the preference here.

The Hot and Sour Soup (a delicate and well balanced mixture of flavours and textures and not too heavy on the chilli)

This restaurant is part of Maxims Group, which is basically a guarantee for above average standards. The Shanghainese dishes served here are authentic and colorful in diversity. Some of my favorites are the sweet and sour fried fish, braised lion's head, spicy beef in pungent sauce, and the fried prawns coated in salted egg yolk. From presentation to taste, the sweet and sour fried fish is thoughtfully prepared. The fish is succulent and fried in a batter that remains crispy in the sauce. The sweet and sour sauce is well balanced and really compliments the fish. I like the lion's head here because it's flavorful and not as fatty compared to other ones. There's just the right amount of fat in the meatball to create a very soft and tender texture while not making it overly greasy. The sauce that it's braised is also delicious and hearty. The spicy beef in pungent sauce is a family favorite. It's served boiling hot and extremely spicy! It comes with a ton of beef and Mung bean sheets. All the flavors are strong but delicious and warming in the winter. I have to say that the fried prawns in salted egg yolk are also my favorite. The size of the prawns here are impressive and they're cooked to perfection. They also don't skimp on the salted egg yolk. In our recent visit, we also tried the scallops with mushrooms and vegetables served in a truffle sauce. I was a little skeptical about the truffle sauce in a Chinese dish at first but it was delicious! I was mind blown by the different textures of the mushrooms, vegetables and scallops. The truffle sauce was really toned down. It complimented the scallops without overpowering the flavors. Overall, fantastic food and excellent service. I highly recommend Shanghai Jade to anyone looking for some fancy Shanghainese food!

The soya sauce pork knuckle "Yuen Tai" was very tender and good. We also liked the sweet and sour fish which was first deep fried so that it was nice and crispy. The fresh water shrimps were so, so only. "Siew Long Pao" was also pretty good, so was the vegetarian roll. The cost was pretty average for this type of restaurant.

If you are near here, eat here!…read more We were the only westerners in the restaurant, which gives a good hint about local quality. The menu had a LOT of items, each numbered and with short descriptions in English. Everything was, as you'd expect, served family style. We had the hot and sour soup, some veggie dumplings, shredded beef with vegetables, shrimp in chili sauce, all served with tea. Each was fantastic! Seriously. Not good. Not great. Fantastic! There was enough soup for four, which magically disappeared from our table for two. We cleaned every plate, and not because the servings were anything short of generous. The service was also great, while a bit hovering as they seemed worried about how we might handle everything. For one, I was happy they noticed us struggling while making a mess trying to shell the shrimp, bringing us a knife and fork (and extra wet-wipes). Interesting to me, this was the first time we each had two sets of chopsticks. Thankfully, the internet quickly taught us that one set was for serving ourselves from the community plates, and the other for eating. Don't use the eating pair for serving or the serving pair for eating -- it is bad form, especially with COVID being so huge here. Note: they are happy to bring serving spoons, forks and knives if you ask (or appear hopeless). My other mistake, in addition to the shrimp peeling fiasco, was not tipping. When I saw the 10% service fee, and knowing tipping is totally optional and not expected in Hong Kong (and most of SE Asia), I still should have left a bit more, especially considering how helpful they were.
