A Michelin star rated take out place for pan fried dumplings in Hong Kong! Easy to order and so delicious! We got the original special pan fried dumplings which was our favorite and it literally bursted with soup inside. We also got the spicy pan fried dumplings which had a slight numbing component to it and had so much flavor and a nice spice! Would definitely recommend coming here if you are in HK!

These are like 小籠包 but a different shape & pan fried. There is hot soup inside & if you like 小籠包, they will be very tasty. Too bad its takeout only so you'll stand & eat fresh or take it home.

Happened upon this spot looking for lunch. Michelin awards got my attention and I went for it. Pan fried soup buns. Some decent combos. Good enough that I brought my family here twice when we had a finite number of meals in HK. That means a lot. Service is a bit gruff but they're super efficient. Ambience is non existent, right at the street corner of a tunnel that cuts thru. They have a small counter you can eat off of right outside but I gave up my spot the one time I tried to eat there. Do yourself a favor and walk to the nearby park or your hotel to chow down. Your buns need time to cool anyway. The truffle and crab buns are winners. For me the crab is even better than truffle. Good for a decent snack but you can make a whole meal with some of their combos. The crab roe noodles are indulgent, with heaps of crab roe and meat.

The food was amazing. Probably the best dumplings I've had. The ordering process was easy and fast!

With three locations in Hong Kong, the original at Tsim Sha Tsui Mansion earning a Michelin Bib Gourmand rating carried on to the others, Cheung Hing Kee Shanghai Pan Fried Buns has mastered the art of Sheng Jian in a no-frills environment popular for fair prices and quick service. Visited around 19h00 in Wan Chai, a few locals occupying seats along the small counter, Cheung Hing Kee offers a concise menu prone to items being out of stock though the signature "Buns" are always available in their traditional form of imbued with Truffles. Also offering Noodles, thin with Scallion Oil or Glass-style soaking in Hot & Sour Soup, look to the "Bean Casserole Pancake" for something different as two crispy layers come sandwiching lightly-sweetened Paste.

Dropped by Cheung Hing Kee Shanghai Pan Fried Buns in Tsim Sha Tsui around 3pm--there was a bit of a line but it moved fast. Sadly, their signature was sold out, so I tried the spicy numbing buns and the shrimp ones instead. The spicy ones had great flavor but could've been spicier (was about medium heat), and the filling was a bit lukewarm--perhaps an older batch. The shrimp buns, though, were fresh, crispy on the outside and full of hot, tasty soup inside (watch your mouth!). Cash only but they take Octopus card. They have one small standing area just outside the store for you to eat, but it is often occupied. Don't forget to add some vinegar from the bottles on the side--it really brings the flavor out!

Yet another overhyped restaurant. We waited over 30 mins in line so thought the food must be good but were so disappointed in their pan fried buns. They're made to order but for some reason the bottom of the buns weren't as crispy as I had expected them to be. A rather difficult eat as well since there's only a small ledge right outside the restaurant and the soup inside the bun explodes everywhere if you don't bite into it carefully. We also got the hot and sour soup and found it average. Sorry not a fan and I much prefer the frozen ones that I get at my go-to pan fried buns restaurant in NYC's Chinatown.

    Dumpling

Really good cheap eat. Went on christmas night and line was long, waited about 20 mins in line, but they give you the food immediately once ordered. Pork soup dumplings and noodles were my favorites. You stand and eat, I would definitely come back!

Stand up counter where you can eat and stare at spilled soup stains. Still yummy!

Ordered 4 of the regular buns and 4 spicy. Taste is delicious and plenty of soup in each bun. Be careful, these things are messy and require some decent chop stick skills if you want to bite off the top and drink the soup. These things are slippery little suckers. Line was not long so service was quick. We went late morning so had these for breakfast. Only 4 stars because of a few reasons: 1) The lady taking our order wasn't rude, but also not friendly. They know they have a good product so service is a distant second. They have a combo menu that allows you to order buns along with some other food and a drink. I wanted a combo #3 and she ended up giving me the spicy buns, which are #3 on the "bun menu". I told her I wanted the combo and she pointed to the spicy buns. Oh well. 2) There's no place to sit and eat. There's a little counter where you can put your food on and eat standing up but it's gross (and I have a relatively high yuck tolerance). You can see where other people spilled soup and the workers don't bother cleaning the counter so it's not the most pleasant dining experience. 3) Not a lot of drink options. If you want something other than their limited soda drinks, pick up something by a neighboring 7-11 or other C-store (fortunately they are close by). Overall, great tasting buns but just be prepared for the lack of service / ambiance.

If you are near here, eat here!…read more We were the only westerners in the restaurant, which gives a good hint about local quality. The menu had a LOT of items, each numbered and with short descriptions in English. Everything was, as you'd expect, served family style. We had the hot and sour soup, some veggie dumplings, shredded beef with vegetables, shrimp in chili sauce, all served with tea. Each was fantastic! Seriously. Not good. Not great. Fantastic! There was enough soup for four, which magically disappeared from our table for two. We cleaned every plate, and not because the servings were anything short of generous. The service was also great, while a bit hovering as they seemed worried about how we might handle everything. For one, I was happy they noticed us struggling while making a mess trying to shell the shrimp, bringing us a knife and fork (and extra wet-wipes). Interesting to me, this was the first time we each had two sets of chopsticks. Thankfully, the internet quickly taught us that one set was for serving ourselves from the community plates, and the other for eating. Don't use the eating pair for serving or the serving pair for eating -- it is bad form, especially with COVID being so huge here. Note: they are happy to bring serving spoons, forks and knives if you ask (or appear hopeless). My other mistake, in addition to the shrimp peeling fiasco, was not tipping. When I saw the 10% service fee, and knowing tipping is totally optional and not expected in Hong Kong (and most of SE Asia), I still should have left a bit more, especially considering how helpful they were.

A Michelin star doesn't necessarily impress me. However, this restaurant can back up its star. The shredded chicken with bean jelly noodles and peanut sauce was tremendous. The chicken was delicate and shredded nicely, while the peanut sauce wasn't overwhelming. Nothing seemed overshadowed. The siu long bao is legit and can contend as one of the best. Yup, dare I say it, Ye Shanghai's offering of the classic is up there with Din Tai Fung. The skin was thin, but not sticky or dry. The skin also held the meat and juice quite nicely. The filling itself was flavorful but not greasy. The har gao here was actually quite good as well. Having a carrot underneath was interesting but the dumpling itself was not too starchy. The shrimp was nicely steamed and not too tough. The thin pan fried noodles with soy sauce was, again, not too greasy but having lots of soy flavor. It wasn't too salty and had good wok flavor. The fried chives pancakes/bun was flaky and delicious. I guess anything fried is at least flavorful but this wasn't too greasy. That's the theme for this restaurant: nothing seems to be a grease ball. The desserts were mostly western-style (with a theme of fusion), which was a bit of a change in the meal. Probably my favorite was the panna cotta with berry sauce. The panna cotta was smooth and creamy and the berry sauce was a sweet yet tart accompaniment. Another good one was the chestnut tiramisu with chocolate sorbet. A normal Asian flavor with the chestnut mixes well in a tiramisu. Lastly, the mango "napoleon" was a nice take on the traditional French dessert. The pastry used tofu skins instead of wafer-thin puff pastry and pastry cream was replaced with mango. The exception to the western-dominated desserts was this Chinese sweet soup which was tremendous. I liked the combination of goji berries and longan in the soup. It was refreshing and sweet soup. Service wasn't obtrusive but rather polite and helpful. I was greeted nicely at the entrance and was helped a lot by the maitre d'hotel. Maybe speaking in Cantonese goes a long way. Just having tea here was delightful, as I liked the glasses served and the smooth flavor of the teas. (thanks so much Cora, Ah Foon, Diana, and Peter)

(Prices mentioned in this review are in HKD, divided by 7.75 would convert to USD)…read more We have been eager to try the Spring Moon which is a Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant located on the 1st floor (equivalent to 2nd floor in the US) of the Peninsula Hotel, Hong Kong.  We treated 6 members of our extended family to dinner, with us, it was a party of 9.  Hubby did a great job choosing 4 starters, 9 other main courses, and let each person pick a dessert of his/her choice.  Please see the receipt that lists all the items.   The restaurant was set up to resemble those in the 1820s, and has an antique Shanghainese feel.  I appreciated the antique feel, but would prefer better lighting especially for photo taking of the food!  The majority of our table was in a shadow as it was mostly under the balcony, so, that was trickier to take good photos.  Also, the tables were pretty close to each other, except for the wider area in the middle leading to the tea bar.  For some, it is a stunning looking restaurant, depending on whether antique Shanghainese is your cup of tea or not.   Service was very good, but not impeccable.  It was like standard for a good restaurant.  Sometimes we did have to flag down a waiter.  But they were all nice and polite once you got their attention.  We had to remind them several times about the second course of the Peking Duck, which was the Stir-fried Minced Duck Served with Lettuce, that they might have forgotten.  However, we really need to give a special shout-out to our main server, who was friendly and was very familiar with the menu.  He gave my hubby good advice, such as the Green Lobster would be too small for 9 people, and he suggested 2.25 orders of Wok-fried Prawns with Yunnan Ham and (crispy) Bean Curd Sheet.  That was a very good recommendation!  The green veggies were placed through the huge prawns, the whole dish was fresh and tasty with beautiful presentation!  He did not up-sell us, as this choice even came up cheaper than the original Green Lobster!  He also advised on getting 1.5 orders of the Suckling Pig, 1.125 order of the BBQ Hungarian Mangalica Pork with Honey, and 1.125 order of Star Garoupa so that they would be enough to feed all 9 guests! Moments like the captain carving the Peking Duck by our tableside; a team of servers bringing individual servings of King Crab Meat Sweet and Sour Soup to us; and a team bringing individual servings of desserts, were truly impressive!  It was fun that all those bowls came covered and were opened at about the same time. The food was phenomenal!  I have been craving for the crispy skins of the Suckling Pig, Peking Duck, and Crispy Tea Chicken since we left Spring Moon!  Those were so light, thin, and crispy... a true delight to enjoy!  The Pan-seared Star Garoupa(Grouper) was also memorable!  It had a light batter that had a nice crunch, the Grouper meat inside was so fresh, tasty, smooth, and cooked to perfection!  The Steamed Crab Claw with Egg White (although a bit pricey at HK$428 per person) that we got 9 orders of was a must try!  The Crab Claw was so big and plump, the meat fresh and flavorful, and the steamed egg white was smooth and tasty!  This dish really impressed everyone!  The only dish that I did not try was the Garlic Broccoli.  Why?  I have to save some room for dessert!  So, it was either broccoli or Baked Sago Pudding with Chestnut Paste, which is a labor-intensive yummy dessert that not too many restaurants have chefs that could/would make nowadays!  The pudding was so good, it had the right amount of sweetness, and the chestnut paste in the middle was creamy and tasty!   I already wish to have the above dishes again when I go to Hong Kong next time!  Actually, the whole dinner was a delight! The other dishes Crispy Bean Curd Rolls with Carrots and Black Mushrooms, Cold Jellyfish with Dark Vinegar, Signature Fried Rice, Vermicelli with Crab Meat all worth an honorary mention!  And we even got complimentary desserts!  Each person got a bite size piece of mango pudding cake, and an almond cookie, that was so crispy and fluffy and smelled so good! The Spring Moon is famous for its vast variety of tea.  We ordered Jasmin and Oolong to go with our dishes.  Each guest picked one of the two, that paired with the Cantonese food well. All in all, the dinner at Spring Moon was worth the money!  We were all stuffed with good food!  Everyone was happy and we, as hosts, were proud as well!

It was poured tableside alongside complimentary candied sesamed walnuts. Their Charsiu was phenomenal and also a chef recommendation - Smoked barbecued Hungarian mangalica pork with honey 果木煙燻 匈牙利鬈毛豬叉燒. For a full meal, we chose the Fried flat rice noodles with Wagyu beef and onions in supreme soy 頭抽乾炒和牛河. The flavor was exquisite - deep, charred, evolved. And the texture was outstanding. The wagyu was so tender, it was difficult to distinguish it from the noodles! We passed on desert as we were on schedule to attend the orchestra across the street, but next time I'll plan to be here longer. Highly recommend.
