Prior to going to Hong Kong, I quickly realized that rooms in most hotels would be modern & clean but definitely far from spacious. Well, that is unless you're willing to shell out some seriously big bucks. When traveling, I tend to not spend most of my time in the room anyway, so it would be ok. Just as anticipated, the room was tiny yet ultra clean & modern, but if you don't want to shower in a teeny, tiny space then you will need to do a serious upgrade. With our two suitcases, there wasn't much space to walk around the bed, so we put one of them on the window sill which did look out towards a lovely view of vibrantly colored buildings similar to the high rise condos in Miami Beach but with mountains in the background. The view definitely was quite nice on the 18th floor, I must admit.
Every time we entered or left the hotel, no one on staff was there to greet us on our way with a smile like we had experienced in Vietnam but it's a very different culture in a very different city. The hotel itself is very clean & modern but has a very cold, cosmopolitan feel to it. The absolute best part of the hotel was the fact that the room has a smartphone for the guests to carry so that it provides your own smart phones with constant wifi or you can just use theirs; however, if you are like us & have iPhones, you will most likely prefer to use your own on the wifi because it's much different using an Android.
The main reason for my title to this review about this hotel not having friendly staff is because on the first afternoon, we wanted to eat lunch in the restaurant on the 2nd floor. When we got to the restaurant, we were told very coldly that there was no way we could eat because they had a reservation for a large party, although there were literally at least 10 tables open sporadically throughout the restaurant...not just a section blocked off. I explained we were staying in the hotel & the server shrugged her shoulders at us. We went downstairs & I was so annoyed, I told the manager at the concierge. He called up to the restaurant & told us that there was a table available for us on the patio & asked if that was acceptable. Yes. Sure. Of course. We just want to eat & head out. We are not the type to sit there forever after we eat. We headed back upstairs & were shown to the patio & told to sit. I asked if we could get menus & were told its buffer only right now & the server walked away. Um. Ok. Can we order a drink over here? I followed her & told her we wanted two soft drinks & she just nodded. We went to the buffet & ate the food, which was decent but not great. The food was quite heavy & did not sit well at all & put a huge damper to the rest of the afternoon. I had to chase down the server again to get the check so we could go back upstairs & wait for our stomachs to settle. Listen, each person or group of people will be looking for different factors when choosing a hotel room in a city. I will give credit where it is due & exclaim that the location is convenient, the hotel & rooms are clean & modern with a wall covered in mirror which was convenient for getting ready purposes since the bathroom is way too small for more than one person to be in at a time, the smartphone is super convenient, helpful, & just plain awesome, & the price is pretty reasonable. I just don't appreciate the coldness I felt at the restaurant or each time I walked in & out of the lobby. If you're anything like us, the types that live it up the entire day & night & often are not ready to go to the room just because things are closing, the best part of this hotel's location is a small park across the street. Every night we would get a beer from 7-11 & go hang out in the park...even when it was pouring outside!! It did round out the day & night & afforded us that extra hour to unwind & reflect on the day's events. I did enjoy this very much. read more
