I am never going to stay at another hotel in Hong Kong ever. The Intercontinental is it, forever! The Intercontinental might not look like too much from the outside, and at only 16 stories high, it is kind of a dwarf compared to some of its neighbors, but don't let the appearances deceive you! It is a bit of a steep walk uphill from the entrance, but worth it as it sits in a prime location in the middle of the harbor with floor to ceiling glass windows in the lobby for that famous Victoria Harbor view!
We booked a night here for our honeymoon, and boy did they take care of us! All the staff was so gracious and they were apologetic that our room wasn't ready for us at the check-in time. We arrived around 4pm though our check in was at 3...so, they upgraded us to one of the super nice deluxe suites on the corner of the hotel so we got 4 giant windows for a gorgeous panoramic harbour view, and even a view from our huge jetted bathtub!! The white marble bathroom itself was enough to make me cry with its double sinks, steam room shower, separate vanity, and that bath tub...*sigh* We actually had TWO bathrooms in the suite, perfect for the hubby to take a deuce in the bathroom in the front of the room lol.
The sitting area, office desk, and dining area were way more than we needed, but so nice to have too! We even had a complimentary bottle of champagne (not sparkling wine...Perrier Jouet) and strawberries and honey delivered to our room after we settled in! The bathrobes are super comfy and fluffy (not that dried stiff towel stuff you find sometimes) as were their slippers. The change your sheets every morning, not just retuck them back in, and you have a special butler call button too. Sheesh! This is seriously luxury. But I'd come back to this hotel in a heartbeat even if we didn't have this room..they were so welcoming, and many of the staff speak excellent English, even though we could speak Chinese too.
The afternoon tea on weekends is amazing. We got a set for 2 a little under 700 HKD before 10% gratuity and were so stuffed from all the food. It may seem pricey, but there's a lot of food, great ambiance, live music, great views, and it's worth the splurge! There's savory bites and sweets too and a beautiful view of the harbor too.
As a tip, when you are exiting from the MTR, take exit J2. We made the horrendous mistake of exiting L or K because we thought the J exit didn't have a ramp or escalator and only stairs (there's a hidden ramp to the left and then escalators behind the stairs that are hidden from view so if you have luggage, it is definitely doable!)...don't exit the other ones or you will have to cross the streets and it is NOT fun or easy to cross the streets in HK--drivers don't care about pedestrians, and you don't want to haul two large luggages while you're at it too!
Even if you don't stay at this hotel, you should come check out the views and the lounge--even the afternoon tea! They also house a few Michelin Star restaurants too! read more
