For those of us who can remember the original Hong Kong Hilton, located in Central, all Hilton Hotels in Hong Kong can only be judged by comparison. The great thing about that location was that you walked out the door and you were steps away from the ferry, the subway, and all the shopping, restaurants, and nightlife of Central. I stayed there more times than I can count during the 1980s and 1990s. But, times change. That hotel became an office building and I guess Hilton wanted a new, more modern structure. Here it is.
The Hilton Garden Inn is a very nice hotel. It is modern, the rooms are well designed, and though not as perfectly placed as the Hilton was in Central, this hotel does hold a good location on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong.
Located in Mongkok -- Mongkok is an interesting area in and of itself. But, it is one of those areas of Hong Kong that you must come to know to truly enjoy. Sure, like most of Hong Kong you can walk out the door of this hotel and find interesting sighs to see. But, getting to truly enjoy this area take some effort. So, if you are only going to be in Hong Kong for a day or so, keep this in mind. But, I will leave where to go and why in Mongkok to the travel books.
In terms of this hotel, it is like most international Hiltons, you walk into the lobby, and the staff is generally nice and they do their best to make sure you have a nice stay. When you make a reservation for this hotel I suggest that you go for the one of the Harbour (British spelling) View Rooms. These tend to be a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for and if you want to have a nice view of Hong Kong from one of the upper floors, this is what you will need to reserve.
It terms of amenities, this hotel has all of the things you would expect from a Hilton. The rooms are well supplied with all you will need. And, if you need something in particular, the staff will more than likely be able to supply you with it.
The restaurants... Well, the are okay. Not great. Like most hotel restaurants in Asia they are best frequented to facilitated a necessary meal more than to truly enjoy the local flavor. But, they are not bad.
Overall, good place to stay. read more
