My friend brought me here to check out the views and the first thing I noticed when I walked in was the amazing smell that envelopes you when you walk in. It was such an amazing smell that I asked the front desk and they told me it's their signature scent, they sell candles and a room spray if you want to take the smell with you. Once you go up to the cafe you will be distracted and amazed by the incredible views of the city! Even the bathroom had a great view! The staff here was very personable, we didn't have any food but the drinks even the nonalcoholic ones were very good. Located on Pacific Place, next to the J.W. Marriott, this ultra high-end getaway starts at 6000 HKD (773 USD) for its smallest suite. With spectacular floor to ceiling windows in every room, I found myself in a staring daze with Hong Kong's skyscrapers and city lights more than once. Each bathroom comes with an elegant tub and waterfall shower separate from each other, as well as remote control blinds to give yourself ultimate privacy in every room. Countless celebrities and high-end clients roll through, while I was there the boy band Big Bang were guests for a few nights. This hotel contracts out their own security for personal body guards if needed, the screaming fans outside couldn't even get close. There are three things I do when I stay at hotels such as these to test their customer service. First, I ask the concierge for items that may be difficult to get. I have sensitive skin and there's only one type of razor blade I can use, I requested it. They had to go online to find it, and then they actually called to verify if it was the one. It was. They retrieved the product as well as some miscellaneous items I needed and I was beyond impressed with the 20 minute retrieval time. Next, I get close to the front desk staff and see how well they interact with their guests. The next morning I received a candle from the front desk with a note, asking me how my night was (I had told them about my cousin's birthday party) and wished me a great day. I was so flattered. Brownie Points. Lastly, I order room service. The most pretentious order you can possibly make, I request. Not to be ridiculous but to see how far the hotel will go to accommodate me. I requested different milks, I asked for substitutions for a vegan diet, I even asked for something not on the menu and they said it would be no problem to get (I asked for KFC drum sticks). The food was above average. I stayed here for a week, and constantly asked to change rooms for different views each day and different suite types to see what their other rooms are like. They accommodated me above and beyond my expectations. The more expensive rooms had additional amenities such as a to-go battery pack to charge your smartphone to and rose oil for the bathtub as well as a sewing kit and a HDMI cord in case you wish to stream from your laptop. This hotel doesn't have a spa or a pool, and it only occupies 10-12 floors that start on floor 37. Hence, the name: The Upper House. I loved my stay here and I even left some things behind to see if they would have them in the Lost and Found a day or two later... They kept my hoodie and notebook (which I was surprised they kept) and they offered to mail it back to me internationally, now that's what I call ultimate service. Kudos. xoxo read more

Ultra modern luxury hotel with excellent service! They allowed us to check in early when we arrived around 8-9am, which we weren't expecting. Lewis made us feel welcomed immediately, along with another young man whose name has slipped my mind (he's half American). Our room had a fabulous view of the water, and was incredibly spacious. Everything was high-tech. The bathroom suite was amazing!! You can enjoy a luxurious bath while watching TV and being adjacent to a panorama view. Also, their robes are super comfy soft. Room service was great as well (loved the avocado toast and fruit). Overall we'd definitely return to UH next time we're in HK! read more

The Upper House was an oasis for my wife and I while visiting Hong Kong for four nights in March. The incredible accommodations, impeccable service and convenient location all combined for us to consider the Upper House one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. We can't wait to visit Hong Kong again in the future and stay here. Our room on the 40th floor overlooked Victoria Harbor and was huge with just over half the space dedicated to a massive bathroom. One enters the palatial room through a large wooden door via a fancy 3D holographic key card, which handily has the hotel address in Chinese on the reverse side, into a small foyer with the first of several pieces of original sandstone art. The theme seems to be nuts and seed as the other sculpture at the end of the hallway in the room was that of a giant pistachio nut and my favorite in the entire hotel. I asked at the front desk and was told they have over 300 original pieces of sandstone sculpture. Also in the foyer by the door are the first of several lighting controls that magically control all the lighting throughout the room. From the foyer, one enters the bedroom to find a large, super comfy king size bed. On either side of the bed are nightstands with more controls for the lighting, do not disturb and service lights and the two sets of curtains. The bedroom window juts out in the shape of a triangle where they have placed a similarly shaped sofa. Also in the bedroom is a nice desk area with an array of power, usb and audio/video outlets. In the desk drawer, one can find an array of cables to hook most anything up to the TV and audio system as well as stationary, eraser and even correction tape. In the cabinet to the left of the desk is the maxi bar, a refrigerator loaded with complimentary beer, soda and water as well as wine and champagne to purchase. In the right cabinet are several jars of free snacks including my favorite gummy bears along with a super fancy Illy espresso machine. Heck there was even a toaster in one of the drawers, a first for me to find in a hotel room that didn't come wit a kitchen. The large screen TV is the hub of all things video and audio. From there you can watch complimentary recent movies or listen to a host of audio selections that can be piped into the bathroom if desired. They offered standard radio along with Spotify and several well curated Internet radio station including our new favorite jazz station from NYC. Moving from the bedroom, one slides a wooden door to enter the rest of the suite which is dedicated for the bathroom and dressing room. To the left is the large bath tub and fantastic shower with another large triangle shaped window jutting out creating even more space. This window also offers remotely controlled blinds to provide privacy at night. The bath tub has a host of fine amenities my wife loved and faces a large mirrored wall that houses a second TV. Only complaint from my wife was the back of the tub was too upright for her but she did enjoy the nice pillow provided. The shower was an incredible huge slab of stone as the floor with a hidden perimeter drain, a wall mounted and removable shower head and another overhead rain shower head to boot. Hot water was instant with hardly a wait and the temperature never fluctuated. Two super plush bath robes are provided along with several pairs of slippers. Across from the bathing area is a huge dressing room with a large lighted make up mirror and seat for the morning prep work. Opposite the dressing table was a large closet with multiple drawers and these big chunky wooden hangers. There is a room safe, umbrella and shoe stretchers provided in the closet but not an iron or iron board. The latter are easily obtained with a phone call if necessary. Moving down a hallway from the dressing room was the commode in a separate sparse alcove with a telephone and writing pad for any thoughts that may come to you. Service is outstanding at the Upper House from check-in time to when one finally has to depart. We were warmly greeted every time we entered the hotel and when leaving offered assistance with any directions or transportation we may have needed. It didn't take long at all for the staff to know us by name. In the morning when we would head upstairs for breakfast, they would clean our room for the day and have everything replenished by the time we returned from eating. Our only service complaint is we found the people working in the upstairs lounge to be very aloof always on the phone or working on a laptop never greeting us once the several times we visited. The view up there is outstanding though and well worth a visit or two. There are numerous large coffee table books spread throughout the space for enjoyment. We quickly discovered this to be our favorite spot in the hotel. Oh well lots more to share but I hit the text limit for reviews that I wasn't aware existed. read more

Wowwww. Just wow! Hotels in Asia are unmatched in service, and the Upper House is a perfect example of that. When I got into my room, there was a light breakfast waiting for me (fruit, coffee, tea, and pastries), which definitely made me smile (although I just wanted to sleep). I felt like every time I left my room for even just 10 min, I would come back to a clean room and fresh fruit. Idk how they know when you're gone or how quickly they get it done, but it's impressive. Every day, I was either presented with a gift or it was left in my room - these varied from chocolates in a super luxe box that looked like a fancy watch box, travel pouches/clutches, room perfume, etc... They definitely know how to spoil! The room was clean, modern, minimalistic, zen, and beautiful... Also quite larger than I expected. The view was spectacular. The bathroom was gorgeousssss. Every single amenity is thought of and provided at the Upper House. Everything in the mini bar is free... I think they even had beer. The property itself is just okay, there's really not much to do on property, but everything else about this hotel is nothing short of amazing. 100000% recommend staying here if you're in HK! read more

Was looking forward to brunch here and felt good when we were seated at a semi private table away from the open seating area. Too bad the open kitchen next to us had a loud ventilation system that was not working well with contant greasy smells wafting over. We ultimately moved tables. The beef tartar was salty in some areas and bland in others topped with limp chips. So disappointing! The shepherds pie was ok, nothing to write home about. read more

This hotel is absolutely amazing. I hear that celebrities often stay here. The hotel shares a building with the JW Marriott, so keep this in mind when you're walking back to the hotel from the MTR station. When you walk inside (separate entrance off to the side from the Marriott), you enter a small reception area. You'll have to take the escalator to the lobby, where there's seating and a coffee bar (there's a staff member there in the morning). Then you'll find the elevator bank to get to the rooms, which start on floor 38. The room is pretty simplistic with light wood and tile floors. We had a King bed, which was huge. The living room area had an L-shaped sofa and the windows had some padding too for window seats, kinda cool. I loved the bathroom -- separate toilet from the double vanities and a separate tub from rain shower (it also had a removable shower head if you want to use it). Oh yeah, the tub faces a TV inside the mirror! The tub also had a back rest for your head, how nice! Since the floors are tile, they provide slippers. Something that I've never experienced is free-flowing drinks in the mini fridge (except for the wine, but includes beer) and snacks! There's also a water heater for tea and an espresso machine for coffee. I just wish they gave you milk every day for the coffee. read more

The service is a bit stark, there is no one around when you need them kind of thing and you don't want to get on the phone for help in the lobby( area at the top of the tall escalator). The gym is less than adequate. For a grand a night it wasn't worth it for me. After five nights I missed the Marriott next door especially their great breakfast. read more

The Upper House is, hands down, the most luxurious hotel I've ever been in. Not that I've set foot in many luxury hotels, but I'm confident that this one surpasses them all - or at least the ones in HK. An old friend of mine was following her dad on a business trip, so basically it was an all-expenses-paid trip for them - lucky! I met her at her hotel room, and getting up there was no easy task. My friend had actually accidentally texted me a wrong room number (3050, when she meant 4050) and when I couldn't find the 30th floor in the lift, I got out at a random floor where I bumped into a hotel staff. I asked him how to get to the 30th floor, and he kindly told me that there was no 30th floor - I showed him my friend's text, and told him her surname - within a minute, he'd made a phone call, told me my friend was in the room and that it's actually room 4050. I was really impressed with how efficient he was - five stars for service, definitely! I'm not sure what kind of room my friend had, but it was absolutely grand. It was definitely the biggest hotel room I'd ever been in, and it's safe to say it's bigger than the average apartment in HK - I mean, it's no doubt bigger than my house! The bed and living room areas were conjoined and had an stunning view of Admiralty and Central. And the bathroom looked like something out of a world-class spa - it was ginormous, and even the bathroom had a view! There's a huge tub, so perfect for bubble baths, and there's a rain shower too. Together with the cream marble floor tiles and all the facilities it had to offer while still maintaining a sense of minimalism, this was a serious architectural wonder in itself. The room also had jars of complimentary snacks like mini packs of m&m's and biscuits, and there was a Nespresso machine too. My friend had me take a ton of the free snacks with me - I didn't argue. Hey, it is free after all! And - let me pause for effect - there was a mini wine cellar too. If this doesn't blow your mind, I don't know what does. The downside is that the hotel doesn't have a pool - it does have a gym though. But seriously, with a room like that, I probably wouldn't even bother with their pool. The hotel is obviously a very expensive one, but if you're intending to spend most of your time in the comfort of the hotel room, this might just be worth the splurge! read more

The Upper House is an elegant hotel, located above Pacific Place. But I'm not writing about the hotel today. Instead I'll talk about one of its hidden gems. I wasn't even sure about writing this review as I would reveal this little secret to the world...but let's share the love! I was first introduced to it by a good friend of mine who took me to Cafe Gray, on the 49th floor. As you come out of the lift, the bar is on the right and 'the gem' is on the left. Okay, it's time to break it to you...it's a library! An elegant, quiet, cozy space, presided by a chimney and overlooking the city. Just the living room anyone who love to have in his or her house. Sit at one of the comfy sofas at the end and enjoy the view, in peace, as this place is barely frequented. And that's the great thing about it; this is a perfect place to read, work, play chess or just have a chat with a friend. There is usually a member of the staff who you can approach if you fancy a drink from the bar. Otherwise, they wouldn't disturb you at all, but would help you in anything to make you feel comfortable. This is one of my favorite spots in Hong Kong, the sofa at the end on the left. I go there to read, to have a tea, sometimes to work (free WIFI). Sometimes just to look at the city from above. I couldn't think of a better place for when it's raining, or it's too hot (always?). Okay, now, I said it all! read more

I stayed here for 2 nights during a quick visit to Hong Kong and had an enjoyable stay. The location is convenient, with easy access to Pacific Place and Admiralty MTR yet removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. The place doesn't really have a grand lobby and the entrance is relatively unassuming - however, this makes coming and going a more peaceful affair and contributes to a calmer, more residential feel. Rooms have a modern aesthetic and feature comfortable furnishings and a very spacious layout, with a large couch, sitting areas by the windows, and a sizeable desk. The oversized bathroom included dual vanities, plenty of shelves and storage space, a walk-in shower, and separate soaking tub situated right by the windows. The complimentary minibar (or maxibar, as they call it) was a nice touch, and the amenities were generous and thoughtful, with a handy toiletry kit stocked with TSA-sized essentials, along with a nice leather currency pouch and tote bag. I also appreciated the modern features, including a Bose wireless speaker and electronic controls for the curtains, lights, and do not disturb indicator. A few minor quibbles included an air conditioning system that initially couldn't be set below 21C and a missing ice bucket (though funnily enough, there's a toaster in one of the drawers); both issues were quickly resolved by quick calls to the front desk. I had the pleasure of dining at Café Gray Deluxe, where I enjoyed a tasty dinner as well as breakfast the next morning, all while taking in panoramic views of the skyline. I also checked out the bar area one night, which serves up some decent craft cocktails in a more intimate yet still lively environment. I appreciated that the restaurant/bar seems quite popular, although this comes at the expense of the lobby/elevator areas being a bit busy at times - though nowhere near as bad as hotels like the Peninsula, which is positively overrun with gawking tourists. Service was very good overall - the staff are all friendly and exceptionally responsive. I emailed the hotel in advance to arrange an arrival airport transfer along with some dining reservations, all of which were handled swiftly and without issue. I also asked the hotel to help procure some HK Rimowa stickers, which were waiting in my room upon arrival. Michelle in particular was a highlight, going out of her way to make sure that everything was going well with our stay on our way out to dinner - upon casually remarking on a relative lack of power/USB outlets by the bed, she volunteered to have iPhone chargers set up, which lo and behold were there upon our return, along with a nice plate of cookies. She was also very helpful in arranging transportation to the airport early the next morning when I checked out, even withdrawing cash from my room account for a taxi when my Uber was taking too long to arrive. read more

It's not like the big five star hotels such as the Grand Hyatt etc. It's cozier, more intimate, grand in its tasteful own way and kudos for it keeping its class even though it isn't considered a big chain hotel. It is absolutely a one of its kind hotel that is equally modern as it is stunning. Stepping into the Upper House, you sense immediately the extreme contemporary, clean and sophistication of a world class five star hotel. It's lobby is warm and clean, edgy and cool. Receptionists greet you at the door, you are then faced with a long escalator that you don't know where it leads to. You are surprised when you realise it brings you to the second floor which is also considered the lobby. Absolutely stunning. Elegance is an underrated word for this hotel, everything from the candles, to the marble flooring to the out door patio perfectly comes together to create a space you just want to linger in forever. Cafe Grey at the upper house is famously known for its cocktails and amazing view. I love coming here for a drink with friends and enjoying the scenery as well as its food. They have amazing burgers and french fries. Try it out if you have time. Everything about this hotel is amazing but what you really need to know is that the rooms here are OFF THE CHARTS UNBELIEVABLE. I kid you not. The rooms are spacious, the bath room has a large tub that over looks the heart of central. You have your own wine cellar inside the room, which is also the refrigerator. Everything is electronically synced to all of your portable digital devices. Everything that you can think of that makes your stay worthwhile and easy, the Upper House has already thought of for you so all you are left with is an unbelievable room that really puts ALL OTHER hotel rooms to shame. I stand by this until proven otherwise. It is pricey, elegance and comfort rarely come freely. It is an extraordinary experience though if you have the money for this kind of stuff. I can't say enough about this beautiful sophisticated hotel. We stayed 4 nights for our honeymoon and loved every second. Just got back so the review is fresh in my mind. We are very picky and hard to impress I must say, and the fact that the service and the food exceeded our expectations says a lot. I was particularly impressed by Edwin, who was awaiting our 1am arrival and went over every detail of our stay as if it were the middle of the afternoon. The rose petals all over the bed and bathroom were very nice. We use Ren products at home so having a plethora in our room was a happy surprise. There is even a dop kit packed with Ren products. We asked for an extra one at the end of our trip so we could both have one to remember our stay and they were happy to leave an extra in the room for us. Hands down the most efficient housekeeping we've ever experienced. We would leave for breakfast for 40 mins and return to a perfect room. Turn down service was perfect as well. The cafe grey egg white mushroom omelette (prepared perfectly to my specifications without cheese or olive oil) was the best I've had - ordered it every morning. Not to mention the spectacular view. They seated us at a corner booth with the best view almost every single time. We ate dinner there one night and we were very happy with our meal. My husband had a beautiful glass of bordeaux, and our food was memorable. Oh and don't miss the gym - best treadmill view I've ever run to. The concierge was lovely at arranging all our meals, and suggesting activities. Just lovely. We would definitely stay there again and again. Staying at the Upper House was beyond any hotel experience I've ever had. In addition to being stunningly beautiful, the staff were all above and beyond nice and helpful. Our room was a serene getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city below and the view of the lush hillsides outside our windows made for a breath taking view. If it weren't for HK being such a fabulous city we may never have left our room. The bar and lounge on the top floor make for the perfect place to grab a night cap after a long day with a beautiful view of the night time skyline. The location is close to the subway system and a quick cab ride to most popular destinations. The park at the base of the hotel is worth a walk through as well. I would highly recommend staying here if you are visiting HK, the pictures I've seen on the internet don't due the beauty and relaxing nature of this hotel enough justice. I can't say enough nice things about this place and my stay. My only regret is not having more time on my trip to stay there. read more
