It's the branding that haunts this place…read more Fair enough, being a champagne bar in the middle of Soho is a good sell to stand out. But then, if you are just looking for a night to chill and relax, you'll think, "hey, it's some fancy high-end champagne bar, let's give it a pass and go for some low key lounge." The truth is, champagne bar is a bit misleading. You'll get a wide range of the usual drinks. Full pint of Asahi for $45 at happy hour till 8pm, which is a steal on Elgin Street. They almost all kinds of liquors at happy hour price too. Granted, you'd still want to get some sparkling here too. Go for the parma ham set that comes with two glasses of rosé? Oh yes, they serve food too! That's right. Doesn't seem like they have a kitchen here, but they bring over the pizza and other hot dishes from the restaurant next to it. One minor miss - the air-con. We were sitting not at the "outdoor balcony" but the table closest to the store front. Excuse us for being spoiled kids enjoying 24c air-con everywhere since we were born, but the air-con was really weak on a summer day like the night we visited. Champagne would have been much more enjoyable in a more pleasant temperature.

They also have a small selection of bar snacks and small plates, the margarita pizza is particularly good. For me, Flutes has always been a "let's meet here before dinner" bar. Right at one end of Elgin Street, it is very easy to find, and has an open frontage onto the street, so you can sit at the front and watch the world go by whilst waiting for your hot date. The front seats are bar stools and high tables, which make a great elevated viewing spot to people watch, but I personally find these seats get uncomfortable over an evening, especially if the AC doesn't quite reach you. I prefer to sit further in the back where there are low seats and tables, but these are unfortunately near the toilet. Drinks are standard Soho price, around HKD80-90 for a regular mixer. Beware that the happy hour only extends to certain drinks. The service is a little slow, even when the bar is empty. It has been much better in the past, so I may have just hit it on a bad day. Otherwise the staff are very friendly. I personally come here a lot, but mainly for fancy drinks, celebrations, or to treat Mrs L. I probably wouldn't meet the lads here for a pint, unless of course it was a pint of Janisson.

Les Pucelles - Nice cozy wine bar of vintage French style. I'm loving it!

Here you can find a long list of white, red, and rose wines (and one dessert moscato) as well as a few options for nibbles. Namely, jamon platter, cheese platter, pate platter, or mixed platter - which all come with a few slices of bread and are a bit customizable: which type of cheese and pate you want is pairable with the wines. The reason that this location does not get 5 stars is because for 140 dollars, we got a very small serving when we ordered the mixed platter. Oh, and the place has a serious mosquito problem. I get bitten easily but even my friends who don't noticed the clouds of mozzies hanging around our table despite the anti-mosquito-smoke thingey lit at our feet (which I had to ask for.) Get one of those purple-light mosquito-blasters, people! Seriously. Otherwise, the other 4 stars were earned through great ambience and very good service - two different servers gave perfect information and advice for wines, and our party of 5 was easily accommodated.

A neighborhood gem indeed.

Lunch is much more affordable and if it's your first visit, I'd recommend trying lunch first. FOOD Everything was nicely presented and satisfying. I enjoyed everything. ART Well there is definitely enough art to satisfy most cravings. This is good news since I'm sure that the art display is the main draw for Bibo. You can also expect an occasional rotation of the art. LOCATION It's not that obvious where their entrance is. My best tip is that there should be a nicely dressed guy standing outside.

I knew there's a restaurant on Hollywood Road that my friends had been recommending to me. I didn't put two and two together, which was a nice surprise when I was there. Stood at the front door for 30 seconds figuring out how to open the door, we found the button 5 seconds before it was too embarrassing. Pretty neat by the way, blended well with the rest of the street. Greeted by the staff leading down the stairs, "Obey the Giant" was there staring at you making you feel very excited already. Oh and there was a mini sculpture from Koons, a skull by Hirst, a wall print of Le Fifre by Manet (which I suspected to be from Banksy), a graffiti by André, and the Princess Peach by The Invader. A few calligraphy graffiti by Tsang Tsou Choi 曾灶財 even. If you love arts, you will fall in love with this place already. You'd have noticed how the restaurant and the menu were inspired by La Compagnie Generale Francaise de Tramway, the original company resided at this very same address at 1930s. They didn't oversell it though, so it was a nice touch to have. We had a 5 course dinner menu to share and a daily special. Foie gras, slow-cooked eggs with crab cake, red snapper, etc. They were all way too good but as they keep rotating the dishes, it wouldn't be the most helpful telling you how they tasted anyway. Trust your servers' recommendations, if anything helps. (Looking back I don't even think I've ever rated any restaurant six stars just because of the food). What was worth the extra start was service here, which was top notch to say the least. Both myself and my partner noted that they had two different servers to recommend to us the food and the wine respectively, and each of the dishes was served by a different server. We kept looking at the arts around us during the dinner, and a server came by and offered to give us a short intro to each of the arts (which we eventually didn't have the time, but that's beyond the point). We also casually chatted up with the last server who served us the dessert. He asked if it's any occasion we chose to have a dinner here, and we answered, "Yeah, not a biggie but just a cheeky celebration of [something personal]." He later, as a surprise, gave us extra set of sweeties with a candle and the "Happy [something personal]!" written on the dish. We went over the moon. Will definitely come back, maybe to try their branch some time. (And if the manager sees this review, please let me know if Le Fifre was Banksy's work!)

We enjoyed all…read morethe food we ordered however being such a small venue the staff are literally planted at the end of your banquette watching you eat. We were one couple out of three and there was also a couple at the bar chatting with the one bar staff and unless they knew the barmaid she also seemed to be watching over them as they ate. The two chefs work in a small but efficient space although it did seem they would be pushed if there were more than 20 diners. On booking (thanks to a cancellation) I asked about BYO/corkage and was told they preferred guests not to BYO & that they had an extensive wine list. On reflection this is inaccurate as the wine list is one page with a handful of wines in each category and two in the white wine section were unavailable and the first one we choose being a 2011 we were brought a 2012 which wasn't the best year for that wine and shouldn't be charged at the same listed price as the 2011. We selected another which was very nice. Overall the oysters were delicious, the foie gras was tasty on toast and the lobster sliders were very good with a little zing in the sauce. It is not the venue for an intimate dinner but nice for a meal out, cocktails or just drinks and small bites to share.

Hostile Management Ruined a Professional Group Event…read more We visited last night after calling ahead the day before and being explicitly told no booking was needed for a large group. Yet, when we arrived with 12 directors and professionals on a quiet Monday night, the restaurant was almost empty, and the manager immediately told us off for not booking. He talked down to me, avoided eye contact, and made us feel entirely insignificant. We tried to have a calm conversation and mentioned we were spending money on a two-hour social gathering, but he restricted us to sit in the corner and strictly ordered us not to mingle with his patrons. He flatly stated he didn't care about our money, only his 'regulars.' To make matters worse, they forgot one of our food orders, and some of the food we did receive was subpar. It's a shame because the floor staff were sweet and kind, but hospitality starts from the top. I have never felt more unwelcome and treated with such hostility at an establishment. Avoid this place! Wasn't in the mood to take a picture I'm afraid.

Review #3,500: When…read moreNathan Left (彌敦左岸) opened up in TST along Hart's lively nightlife road, I was super pessimistic at best. Who was Nathan and why did he leave? Is this another gwai lo bar taking over the local grime and pubs from yesteryear? Since I lived right around the corner, I figured it was important to see what the deal was. Here's the deal: This place is awesome and over the past 2 years, I've become a regular. Of the M1 nightlife establishments, Nathan Left is certainly the most unique. The exterior features a classic Hollywood marquee sign, along with open door seating at their downstairs pub where there is just enough room for people to enjoy a view out on the street while drinking a pint. The second floor, where a majority of the people are is stunning from a decor standpoint. It is mainly a lounge with very contemporary decor pieces and dynamic ones that change in from night in to night out (depending on their theme) along with tables, a stage, a classy bar, and a performing stage. Hidden in the back are pool tables, a karaoke room, and even beer pong. When I say I was blown away by the place, I was even more taken aback when I came back on different nights and the interior was transformed. One night was for a movie night and it was 1920s flapper party and the next night it was b-boys, big beats, and a hell of a hip hop night. For most other nights, it's a showcase of some of the best Filipino cover bands one can find. The menu is mainly a mix of western food, which like any M1 spots are typically grossly overpriced and typically mediocre. I was however, impressed at some of the items, such as their "wurst" sausage variety, and even their $650HKD steak which was exactly how I wanted it -- medium rare. Even I was surprised when I found their hamburgers and pizza to be strangely tasty. Despite all of this, I'd still opt for their drinks more than anything. The drinks are standard, but well done. There is a pretty solid selection of whiskey, and some beers on tap. It's not the most extensive selection of alcohol by any means, but it'll more than do the job for people who can order typical cocktails. The staff is young, professional, and very multilingual. My first few visits here were taken care of by Jordan, who despite looking like a fella from Ireland, was in fact a Hong Kong native and mercilessly trolling folks with his flawless Cantonese. The same for the gorgeous Zasha, who served every drink with a smile. Or absurdly friendly Jerome, who knew exactly how to get the party started. Finally, the manager Tony would give a hearty handshake to his regulars every time they entered / exited the joint. It seems like a moot point by now, but this really was my nightlife home away from home. It was a fun occasion any night of the week, a great place for a date, group fun, or a solo drinking session. And finally, an awesome place to listen to quality music and indulge in great company.

Had a GREAT time at Nathan Left. We were in from the States on the last leg of a vacation to a few…read moredifferent countries in Asia, and were lucky enough to have someone local showing us around. This bar is a gem, with an extensive and detailed drinks menu that includes classic speakeasy cocktails, a diverse selection of beers (for Hong Kong), and even WINE that won't break the bank, a welcome sight for westerners longing for a glass of vino after enduring the usually devastating wine prices in Asia. The real reason to come, however, are the cover bands. This bar makes more than adequate use of its upstairs space to host spectacular cover bands that will truly play you any song in the world. My understanding is that this is not that weird a thing in Hong Kong but for westerners it's pretty magical, so that is my lived experience. Decor is fun, eclectic and cozy. Ample seating upstairs even when busy.
