The Ritz-Carlton is part of the building that forms the tallest building in Hong Kong. The view is certainly amazing. It actually gave me a new perspective of HK, as someone who's lived here before, with all the shipping and ferry transport action that I saw. I wasn't hungry at all, so I simply went with a cheese platter and a milk tea with boba. It was okay, there was a wide selection variety of cheese, and the milk tea taste was strong. Not the best I've had, but you're paying more for the view here than the food. Service was good here. As long as you get a window seat, you'll get your value out of coming here. I probably wouldn't do it if I wasn't able to get a window seat.

I rather try local venues for lunch and dinner and get a more local feel. The staff was efficient and sat me down pretty quickly. Food was very good. They had some local bottled beers which it is always a plus. Why sit in a bar half way around the world for a beer you can pick up at your local bar. The views are excellent of the harbor. It is a great place to sit, relax, and catch up with friends. Only complaint is that the table and chair I sat at were more for casual sitting. It was a little uncomfortable for a meal. Other than that, the food and views were very good.

Every single drink we tried was absolutely incredible.. So unique, flavorful, and thoughtfully crafted. You can really tell how much effort and creativity goes into each cocktail... We sat at the bar, which made the experience even better because we got to watch the bartenders in action. They walk you through each drink when they serve it, explaining the ingredients, how to enjoy it, and the inspiration behind it. It felt like more than just drinks.. it was an experience... The bartenders were super friendly, and several of them spoke English, which made everything easy and comfortable. The ambiance is exactly what you'd want: dim, chill, and upscale with a cool, laid-back crowd... It's the perfect spot to catch up with friends or wind down for the night.. They also serve food, which we didn't order at the time: but honestly, I regretted it later because everything coming out looked amazing (and I was definitely starving by the end of the night)... I genuinely can't even pick a favorite drink because they were all that good, each one completely different and memorable in its own way. 5 stars all the way. Favrile Cocktail: inspired by Favrile art glass, local gin, yuzu, seaweed, and a touch of wasabi. A surprising drink that was quite refreshing on a hot and humid HK night. Before I start expressing how I actually felt about the dining experience, I want to specify that…read moremy waiter was the best part of this experience by a mile. Mustafa (hopefully this is spelled correctly) was: kind, attentive, incredibly speedy, and inhumanly composed. An absolute delight to have as a server, and frankly while my review isn't particularly positive, I would have found the experience to be borderline 1 star just based on the actual flavors of the food relative to the pricing if not for him having saved the experience. If I could do this dinner again, I would honestly order less food, as you get the same view whether you order a single tasting menu and grab some takeout elsewhere afterwards, but at face value the flavors seemed bold yet feasible, as though they could turn out well depending on the execution. In reality we ended up spending approximately $1200HKD per person on a tasting menu that had one to two memorable items each. We actually spent an additional $98HKD on a dish that neither one of us felt compelled to finish. The second course tempura was more interesting flavor-wise than either of our mains, in part due to the chili infused tempura sauce doing a lot of heavy lifting. We are not generally fine dining individuals, it is an occasion we reserve for special events (this was our anniversary), but we do have enough experience to know that the execution of these dishes was miles away from a single Michelin star, yet commanded prices well above most of the one-star restaurants we've visited. The waiter took plenty of photos to commemorate the experience, and we managed to see both the 8PM "city of lights" show on the businesses spread along the harbor, as well as a fascinating lightning storm directly in front of us in a massive panoramic, which should lead to an unforgettable night, but the quality of the food left us grasping at straws to find silver linings. I wish I could remember this experience more fondly, but every time a family member asks whether we enjoyed the food, we struggle to muster any enthusiasm and at roughly $2,800HKD after 10% service charge I can't help but wish we had gone elsewhere to get better food and just visited some sort of observation deck instead.

The mood was lively, the drinks were tasty, and the singers were hitting all the right notes. It's the perfect place for chilling in the evening and night owls to gather, which makes it another wonderful addition to Hong Kong's lovely nightlife scene. Located on Gloucester, it's not the busiest street but that's what makes Ember special. If you want to get crazy, just head a little west on Lockhart Road. But if you want to sip a fancy drink and sit back with some close friends, this is where you want to be. The lights are dim, the music is jazzy, and the staff treat you with utmost friendliness. I didn't get to try their food but I did get to sample their extensive booze list. They've got a fantastic collection of wines and some of the most creative cocktails. Like the Tap Sonic, one of the most stunning drinks I've ever seen. It's a floral G&T, flavoured with elderflower, and has actual frozen flowers inside the ice cubes. Or China Trap House, a fruity green tea infused drink served in a traditional Chinese bowl. They even put effort into their mocktails, like the Music Tower, which has fresh pineapple strips stacked on top, looking like some kinda french fry Jenga game. All were absolutely delicious and will set you back around HKD $100-150. The main attraction is the live band. Yes, they were fantastic musicians. Yes, they've got a great playlist that mixed the new and the old, all with their own twist. But they were also super interactive and gave people shout-outs and took song requests. They seem like a fun crew and are probably cool people to hang out with in real life. All of this makes Ember somewhere you definitely want to be on a Friday night. Or any night really. We went on a Wednesday and there were two birthday parties and a bunch of people coming in and out. They know what's good. (66/100) - 2018

The ambiance is awesome, with low (but not too low) light that makes it intimate. The wine selection is great and the staff are great in recommending options if you're not sure what you're looking for. The cocktails are also expertly mixed which is always worth a star or two in my books. The food is also really good! I tried the truffle pizza, truffle fries, and Caesar salad, and they were definitely finger-licking good! What brings all this goodness together is the live music. When we visited, it consisted of a jazz singer and an accompanying pianist. They performed combinations of Chinese and western jazz, and also took requests from the audience. Being an amateur pianist myself with an expert ear for good music, I have to say it doesn't get much better than this if you're looking for a place to relax with friends or that significant other.
