There's not many places to grab a drink or eat once you leave CityGate. Well, for that matter,…read morethere's not many decent places to have a drink or eat even in or near CityGate. But honestly, I don't think one would specifically trek outside of CityGate to come and find this place if you weren't en route on your way home. Well, because that is how Hubby and I literally stumbled upon it because we were on our way home and I remembered there was a 759 store nearby. I digress, the Tavern is located on the G/F of the Coastal Skyline. Once you leave CityGate you will start to pass an area with many real estate offices in a roundabout area. There are stairs or a ramp down to the ground floor. There on the GF you will find My Thai restaurant and the now relocated 759 store. Initially, we were going to nab a table outside the front entrance but decided upon sitting at the bar instead. The place had only a few afternoon guests enjoying the day both at the bar and outside. I think what caught my eye ...and the most important thing was their sign that read "happy hour until 10pm" Surprisingly, most HH don't usually they don't start until 3pm the earliest and while we were there around 4pm ...happy hour had started five hours earlier! The place feels like you are sitting in someone's basement, honestly, more like a real man cave. It has a small intimate bar with seating for 6? A nice, plush, booth/chair/table area with a checkerboard black and white tile floor and large screen TV's for catching the big game or any sporting event. The bar area is dimly light and the table areas are cozy yet not too romantic if you know what I mean. I guess having those big screens they wouldn't want to scare away those Manly men to come and hang out! Our bartender was quick and friendly. After our drinks were poured, he provided a nice little snacking dish of rice crackers, peanuts. I love when places give you little munchies...of course it makes me want to stay longer so I know they never mind refilling it! Lol! I believe at some point during our leisurely period, I struck up a small conversation with the manager who was talkative and friendly. Hubby and I both agreed we'd definitely come back not just for the drinks but also to try out some food menu items as well! I think it will become like Cheers to us soon! At least I hope they will remember my name! Ha!

I was here on a bar night with some students, and overall the place is alright. I tried the golden…read moremushroom pilsner (brewed in house), but unfortunately, the beer seemed a bit flat. It otherwise had a very pleasant flavour profile. They also made a decent gin and tonic. I tried the Calamari, a Hawaiian and Supreme pizza, jalapeno cheddar fries and potato skins. The Calamari was good, crispy on the outside, and only slightly chewy on the inside, though the tzatziki that came with it was a bit too plain. It could've been more acidic, and had more cucumber, but otherwise it was a nice effort, considering how Greek yogurt is hard to come by in Hong Kong. I the Hawaiian and Supreme pizza are okay. The Supreme pizza had a strange bitterness to the crust, but the Hawaiian pizza was quite good, soft crust, flavourful toppings and stringy cheese. The jalapeno cheddar fries were crunchy, but the use of those individually vacuum packaged "cheddar" that they sell on at grocery stores and try to pass off as "cheese" really let the dish down. I mean sure, it's not a particularly expensive item, but people like their cheddar fries a bit gooey, not slimy. The potato skins were good, with just enough toppings to match the potatoes. They also used proper cheese cheddar cheese (strangely enough), so I was pleasantly surprised by it. I like how this location is much more spacious than their other Wan Chai locations, while still maintaining the same mid-range prices on drinks. Having brewed in-house craft beers is a huge plus for this place, but it seems that the brews just need to be polished a bit more before they can be truly great.

Just went for a quick bite to eat and a drink. Overall not bad. Had the chicken schnitzel and my…read morefriend had the burger and we both enjoyed it Good range of ciders and beers Good value for money

Being that it's Hong Kong, my expectations are nil when it comes to remotely anything western --…read morewhich includes all things German evidently as well. TST has managed to see the opening of several German establishments over last few years, so why not a few more? 尖東 has effectively become a western melting pot of establishments with waterfront views and rapidly pricey area. Overall, Brotzeit surprised me. Decent beers on tap, much of which are largely German and epic platters that will satiate any big eater, and much like the rest of their neighbors: a revamped interior with indoor and outdoor spaces. Be it a casual drink meetup or an alternative dinner option, this place just works. The staff is comprised of mainly local folks with a good command of English. As expected, their German is virtually non-existent, save for a few beer names and their prominent dishes. Overall, they're efficient and friendly, which is as much as one can ask for in HK. Western fare will not come cheap and the same applies here. The bathrooms are two floors up in the TST Center and the views of Hong Kong are somewhat obscured by the highway barricades, but it won't diminish a good weather night. Come thirsty and preferably with good company.

OK this place gets major kudos for the waiter who informed us how to get a free Germain beer mug (…read morethe huge good quality ones, that typically will cost a few bucks)...needless to say our restaurant neighbors weren't pleased as their waiter didn't follow suit and I should add it was Oktoberfest so I don't think this practice is typical. I'm not really a fan of Germain sausages and such so we ordered a sampler, which was just OK, but the beer was tasty and at that moment that's all that mattered
