Walked by this unassuming restaurant in Prince Edward and then I caught a glimpse of the stickers on their front door that proudly boast their 2012 and 2013 Michelin guide listing. As I stood there looking at the pictures and menu, a ton of people entered the restaurant for dinner, so we decided to see what all the fuss was about. Who would have known that there would be a previously Michelin rated restaurant right down the street from where we were staying? Restaurant is small and the tables are pretty tiny. If you come alone or with a friend, chances are you'll probably get seated at a table with another party. Menu is fairly simple - this place is known for their "superior" steamed rice rolls, and while the average place usually only has bbq pork, shrimp, and beef, this place has fish, duck, and pork liver rice rolls. They're also pretty popular for their steamed turnip cake and vegetable pork bone congee. The congee w/ dried vegetables, dried duck kidney, and salty pork bones was proclaimed to be super healthy and tasty. But when it arrived, the color of the porridge looked quite unappealing, and the taste was not there. It was a bit too bland, and only when soy sauce was added did the overall taste improve. For their popular rice rolls - are they worth the Michelin star? Well, my opinion probably isn't worth anything, but I do think the rice rolls were tasty and comparable to the ones at Tim Ho Wan (and cheaper than THW's, too!). -Beef rice roll was my favorite. Smooth and thin outer layering with good flavor and a good amount of beef inside. The sweet soy sauce also added a nice flavor to the overall dish. -Shrimp rice roll. This was typical. Not the biggest fan of shrimp, but my sister thought it was pretty tasty. -Pork liver rice roll ... I don't recommend this. We probably should have stuck with duck. This lacked flavor and didn't have too much ingredients. I think we all thought the pork liver was too dry and tasteless, so when eating it with the rice roll, we wouldn't have known if there was filling inside or not if we hadn't already seen it. We also ordered a dish of steamed gailan since we needed vegetable sustenance. This dish was fresh, super green, and tasty. We were in and out of this place within 30 minutes. While we were eating, we saw a number of people ask if there were seats available. This place does get busy so it's pretty much luck if you'll come at a good time with open seats. tl;dr - For the price and the taste, I would say this was a decent meal. I think we ordered the wrong things and should have tried the turnip cake, spare ribs and rice, and the duck rice roll instead. But what we ordered ... it wasn't too bad.

Who would have ever thought a cheong fun joint would be Michelin-rated? Well, this place is! Located right in hustle and bustle of Prince Edwards where you can find numerous other grub spots! What makes this place stand out is their meat fillings, which include roasted duck, fish, etc (which you don't typically find inside cheong fun). My favorite is the duck, so go ahead and order a couple dishes of that if you're with a few other people because it'll disappear quick! Come here with at least a couple other friends and order multiple dishes so you can have a nibble on each of their offerings! Oh yeah, their soy milk is the perfect beverage to pair with the dishes. Wash down all that sodium with a hot or cold cup!!

A Michelin-one-star Rice Roll restaurant, they serve Chinese Rice Roll. Follow my Yelp if you love my Yelping & welcome everybody to ask me questions about Hong Kong.

Steamed turnip cake. Unique compared to the usual fried one.

Good service. Good price, especially during the set meal times. Like the steamed turnip cake and rice flour roll with duck.

The lady is not friendly, but the rolls are really tasty and reasonable priced. Highly recommended the house special rolls and the duck filled ones. The best one is actually the daikon cakes!!!

They gave us a booklet along with the paper to fill out, and most of the dim sum was the classic dim sum that I'm accustomed to. Their chiu chou fun gor was alright for me. They did put a good amount of peanuts in here but the exterior was a bit heavier on the dough side. Their siu mai and har gow were pretty good. Their cheung fun wasn't the silky light type, so I was just alright with it. Their Chicken with Sticky Rice wraped in Lotus Leaf was huge though, way bigger than those in Los Angeles. Their fresh mango custard roll was my highlight though, as they had chunks of mango in the middle and it was sweet. Would try this again. I think the one other aspect of this place is the interior is really clean, and they have a decent amount of tables inside. Service is a bit more attentive as the area isn't as large. I was most certainly full upon completion of this meal though haha.

Mark your order down on the sheet and go to the register to pay and turn in your order. We tried their har gow, siu mai, baked BBQ pork buns, shrimp rice rolls, deep fried pork dumplings, and deep fried shrimp wonton. Food came out fast and I was pretty happy with all the items we ordered. Overall, decent spot for dim sum but I'd probably only come back if the wait wasn't too long.

Sportful Garden (what kind of a name is that?) does a pretty good job, creating new dishes as well as refreshing the staples, like the super long spring rolls. If you can hang on for a little bit and come in after two, you get the happy hour price which is 40% off many dishes plus some staple dim sum dishes for HK$14-18 (like, US$2). Early birds before noon gets a discount too. They also have roasted pigeon for $33 (US$4) each, and even provide gloves for you to enjoy with your hands. While I very much want to order the super-instagram-worthy birdcage dim sum set (I've taken a pic of the menu if not the real thing), my sensible mom insisted that we order from the discounted menu. I managed to get the piggies though (with purple yam filling). I simply have a weakness for ordering things so cute I suffer a pang of guilt eating them. My favorite is the sponge cake, so light yet creamy, but all dishes, including the noodles, are delicious.

Situated at the very top of the isquare mall in TST, it's a convenient location both for Kowloon and HK siders. The restaurant itself is a beautifully bright space with amazing panoramic views. It's quite modern/upscale and would be a good place to go for work lunches etc but you won't get any nasty looks rocking up in shorts/tshirts etc... (i went there in gym gear). The food...wow. I thought after 30+ years of eating chinese food i'd pretty much seen every iteration of a spring roll. I was mistaken. Granted it's hard to make the case for a spring roll to be the standout dish at yum cha but i've never seen them done like this (pictures attached). Each one is about 20cm long and stuffed with juicy fresh shrimp. I have it on good authority that they are also a massive crowd pleaser for kids too. Other than that, every dish was equally superb and fresh. All the usual suspects (har gao, siu mai, lo bak gou, char siu sou) were top notch; fresh, juicy, thin skins. The lo mai gai was another standout - not the usual stodgy, dense, overly sticky lump; rather it was surprisingly light and the meat didn't taste at all congealed, with just enough glutinous-ness to make the rice sit neatly. And the crispy pork cubes...oh the crispy pork cubes. I'd been craving these for over a year since the only offerings to be found in NY are better described as lumps of soggy fat with a micro film of crispy skin and occasionally a bit of pork. All in all an amazing feed. Adding it to the list of regular places to hit in HK.

I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

Dishes listed and ranked by best to least: 1. Dim Sum Trio (Steamed Pork Dumpling with Lobster, Steamed Fresh Shrimp Dumpling with Bamboo Shoot, Steamed Fresh Shrimp Dumpling with Asparagus and Scallop): Classis dumpings cooked perfectly and made with high quality ingredients. It's a must order. 2. Deep-fried Fresh Crab Claw Stuffed with Minced Shrimp: Crispy, crunchy and big chunky shrimp inside. Also delicious! 3. Signature Barbecue Combination- Honey-glazed Barbecued Pork and Roasted Pork Belly: The classic dish of Hong Kong. Not quite as good as places like Mott 32 but very good. 4. Deep-fried Shrimp Toast with Salted Egg Yolk: it's a classic dish and done well. A single big shrimp is used instead of minced parts 5. Deep-fried Glutinous Dumplings with Pork, Shrimp and Carrot Juice: The insides were delicious but the dumpling was only warm and not as crisp as it should be. 6. Shanghai-style Pork Soup Dumplings: good but not special. 7. Simmered Seasonal Vegetables and Mushrooms in Fish Broth: also good but not special. Overall it was a great experience and we only tried a fraction of the menu. We'll be back for more!

This is just sit-down, made-to-order dim sum, rather than traditional cart-style. They have a couple of set menus, although we just did a la carte so we could get exactly what we wanted. We had a large party so were able to split and try quite a few dishes luckily! I don't think anything really wowed me, but each dish was pretty consistently good and the overall cost at the end wasn't bad. To be honest, I'm not sure what makes it stand out so much to get a Michelin star, but I still think it's a great place for a large group meal if you're looking for something with a less casual vibe. This was definitely the most elevated ambiance out of all the dim sum I've had just based on the interior design and how spaced out the tables were. I don't think service was as attentive as a lot of other Michelin-starred restaurants, but I think that's just how dim sum is, and I'm honestly not a huge fan of the overly attentive service at a lot of nice restaurants anyways. Overall, amazing value for a one Michelin star dining experience. Good dim sum at decent prices, and suitable for large groups.
