Hon Wo Korean Restaurant (漢和韓國料理) is an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ franchise popular in Hong Kong…read moreand which has 7 locations in the New Territories and Hong Kong Island. My relatives were a big fan of this place and praised how they served a huge variety of hot dishes in addition to an all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue selection of meats and seafood. We reserved a table at the Shek Mun location of Hon Wo Korean Restaurant for 8 for our lunch on a Saturday. When we arrived at the restaurant (on the second floor of the plaza right outside the Shek Mun MTR station -- so convenient), we were given a table right away. There were already many customers dining in. I browsed the selection of food available and perhaps the restaurant was overly hyped up for me, but I wasn't that amazed or impressed. There was a fruit station, dessert station, and the hot dishes consisted of vegetables, fried rice, Pig's Trotters in Ginger and Sweetened Vinegar (uncommon at buffets), spicy soup, fried chicken wings. There was a dedicated section for all the raw meats, seafood, and vegetables. There were individual tongs provided for each section of raw food. There was a lineup of people waiting for their turns. There was also a salad station with Korean cold banchan. At our table, we had two barbecue grills. I selected some fried rice, chilled spinach and black fungus. I wasn't that interested in the other hot dishes. The fried rice was quite good. For the raw meats, I chose pig intestines (one of my favourites and rarely seen at a KBBQ), marinated chicken, marinated beef, and some other cuts of beef, pork, and chicken. There was also a large refrigerator with drinks! This was actually the most impressive part in my eyes. It was all-you-can-drink with a huge selection of cultural drinks like "leng cha", Korean Milkis, Korean beers, Korean cider, and healthy drinks from the Healthy Kitchen brand in addition to the usual Coke, Fanta, etc. I hadn't had Korean Milkis before, so I took a can from the fridge. It was like a carbonated light milky drink that was refreshing. In terms of Korean BBQ, the secret to cooking the food well is patience. It takes time to ensure that the meat is not only thoroughly cooked but not overcooked either. You can't rush it. When I went back out to survey what was available, I saw that there were newly prepared platters of sushi available. I liked how they had vegetarian options for who didn't eat that much meat. All of the sushi were vegetarian. It was quite good. I also got some fried cabbage and chilled vermicelli noodles. I also tried the Pig's Trotters in Ginger and Sweetened Vinegar (豬腳薑醋). This was cooked and done really well. The vinegar wasn't too sour. After this, I went for the dessert section. The Osmanthus Flower Jelly (桂花糕) was delicious. There was grass jelly as well as tofu pudding. The grass jelly was good. The tofu pudding was down to the bottom of the barrel so it wasn't that "smooth". I was surprised to see the Thai coconut tapioca cakes in a tin foil form. It was impressively delicious as well. Although it's an all-you-can-eat buffet, there was surprisingly no seating limit. The food service ended at 3:30 p.m. so technically guests could stay from when they opened at 11:30 a.m. and continue eating all the way until 3:30 p.m. It is a very family friendly restaurant that is perfect for big groups and especially families. I say this because it is a very affordable all-you-can-eat restaurant. Each adult price for the AYCE weekend was only 133 HKD while seniors were 113 HKD. That is a huge steal for a buffet that includes so many selections of food and drinks. It's no wonder that my relatives raved about this place so much. During the weekday lunch, you can also order from the a la carte menu -- it's not all buffet style.

And Hon Wo keeps my stomach warm, happy, and in love. In love with ALL THAT MEAT. Forget Chako, this is a whole new level of Korean BBQ. And by that, I mean, you have a whole section dedicated to the 20 or so different raw meats/seafood that you can pick and choose from. AND THEN, you have a whole table full of cooked foods: salads, rice, soups, noodles, desserts, etc. Oh yeah, and a little table just for some sushi and sashimi. It's a KBBQ and a BUFFET! And while you're at it, grab a drink from the completely open, completely inclusive drink fridge. And no, these aren't sad, flimsy pieces of grey meat with no flavour. No. How about indulging in some pork belly...or lamb? Or sample the (at least) 5 different types of beef varying in thickness and spice level. FYI, grilled spam is sinfully good. Feeling a little heavy on the grease and protein? How about some grilled eggplant and pumpkin along with a little something from the salad station? Finish off by cleansing your palette with a soothing bowl of tofu pudding. KBBQ is easy to do but hard to make stand out, but Hon Wo did just that. Not only was the food plentiful, diverse, and amazing, it did something no other KBBQ I've been to has ever done: it didn't make me smell like a grill! Rejoice, friends, as this is a franchise so you can get your KBBQ fix in multiple locations. And with the rise in drama popularity, the quantity and caliber of Korean food will also surely rise. What a time to be alive! (92/100) - 2016

Definitely a place to check out if you live in Tai Wai - good value for money KBBQ.

Im over here excited and just can't wait to eat til i roll out of there. So instead of carrying me out they will roll me out hehe. . First thing first go to the bathroom to wash hands and it was filthy! No soap, wet floors, and unisex, and small restroom. Just eeeekkk and yucky. . The bright side of the place is they offer shabu and korean bbq. Shabu is a hot pot in the middle of the grill filled with hot water or broth for you to boil your food. I was definitely craving me some shabu. Next is the grill but korean style bbq. . Went to the buffet table and looked at the all the selection they offer. For the korean bbq food selection they have beef, chicken, pork, corn, sausages, veggies, shitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, and etc. . The positive side about the meat is they have lots of selection with different cuts and parts like for chicken they offered chicken wings too. The meat is not marinated so its fresh and there is less salt for the body to consume. . The negative side is the meat was bland. i went back to the buffet and searched for sauces, so i mixed soy sauce with some hot chily pepper, and made a special dip for my proteins and meat. it went from bland to having some flavor and the food tasted better. . The shabu was good for steam veggies and loved the variety of stuff they offer. i took the enoki shrooms and just k bbq it, but with a sprinkle of sweet soy sauce to marinate the shrooms and give it flavor. The k bbq style enoki shrooms was to die for after i gave it some flavor. . My most favorite part of the buffet was the all you can eat bon chon! The bon chon was so fresh and tasty. love the kimchi, the fresh bean sprouts, garlic spinach, and much more! Most of their bon chon was kind of mild spicy to no spicy so if you don't do spicy, might be a problem. . overall i thought this place was ok. I hope they make some improvements with the restroom. Maybe offering k bbq meats with marination. Anyways it was a fun time and meeting friends at a buffet was dangerous. It was dangerous because we all over ate and just felt blahhhhh. My favorite part of this buffet was the soup they offer. The soup was definitely very soothing for the throat. The soup was some kind of veggie in a chicken soup with some herbs. Anyways thanks for reading and eat up and keep it saucy!

All the food is wrapped in sealed packages so it's a lot cleaner than other places where you grab the food yourself from refrigerators. Sets also come with a water and a beverage, usually a soda so for a 5-person set it comes with 5 bottles of water and 5 drinks. You also have a view of the water, and there is a bit of open space where kids bring the bikes and can ride around. They also have some dart machines for those that want to play. Prices: With the sets, and even adding on a little bit of food, I generally end up paying about $150.

The decor was nothing fancy, but spacious and comfortable. The buffet was a grand total of $185, with the 10% included. Now, I'm not usually a fan of buffets because I'll be guaranteed to overeat, and my overstuff stomach now is proof. I haven't been to a BBQ buffet ever, but I was quite impressed with the selection. Firstly, we were served tea as promptly as we were seated. The selection of meats ranged from all cuts of beef, chicken, pork, sausages and seafood such as fish, squid, shrimp, cuttlefish. You really couln't complain about the meats selection. The veg selection was much smaller in comparison, I would've loved to see more, but in actuality, I probably wouldn't have eaten that much anyway. The sides selection was quite good. With the Korean sides such as anchovies and beansprouts, but also a few Chinese options like tofu, potatos, chicken feet, noodles and Chinese veg. The desserts were mostly of the traditional Chinese sort - with mango sago, glutinous rice balls, sweet potato soup, grass jelly, and papaya and white fungus. The papaya and fungus hit the right spot for me. I wish I was hungrier as I would have definitely eaten more if I could. By dessert time, I was also feeling a slight discomfort in my stomach, and didn't get to try as many desserts as I'd liked. Everything was good, but the only reservations I had was about some of the meat. It gave me the impression that it may have sat out there for a while, as pools of bloody water was collecting at the bottom. And when we were cooking it, stuff oozed out of it that was indication about their having been defrosted. I avoided the chicken just in case. But in general all their meats were very well marinated. I didn't try their sushi as it wasn't in the prettiest form, but I saw a lot of other guests having them. I'd definitely recommend you go if you're famished, you will get a full belly for sure! But for me, I think I'd rather go to an a la carte place and be sure I'm getting really fresh and premium cuts, and not have the time limit of 1.5 hours to eat (which is plenty really but for a buffet, you feel rushed!)
