And all of this can be YOURS for a shockingly low price of HKD $110! That's what a 4 person set + one lunch set cost for each of the 5 of us. The 4-person set itself was more than enough food for 5 of us, and I had leftovers to take home for dinner. See, the Dan Dan Noodles included in the set doesn't mean one noodle dish to share, it's 1 bowl for every person in the set! 4 bowls of spicy, flavourful, chewy noodles! On top of that, there was: Jellyfish and Cucumber: To cool down your palette. 3 Layer Pork: Some weird chilled pork roll with a spicy/sour sauce and a mound of garlic...something in the middle (puree?) Don't let the notion of spicy/sour/garlicky/cold pork rolls turn you off. This was pretty good. Spicy Boiled Fish: The visual representation of Sichuan cuisine: a giant pot of chilies, oils, and spices. Submerged in all that red are pieces of flaky white fish, flat rice noodles, and veggies. Good, but damn, this left my tongue swollen and made me a mouth breather. Wontons: This was loaded in the peppercorns and their oils, which means one bite renders your tongue numb. The second bite makes you appreciate pork in a whole new way. The flavours were so intense. This was definitely one of my favourites. Kung Pao Chicken: I'm not sure what this was, but it wasn't Kung Pao Chicken. It had chickens, cashews, and was way too saucy to be a traditional Kung Pao. The sauce was sweet, spicy, and sour. The cashews had a hint of a spice I can't really put my finger on...cinnamon? Still, very delicious, and something unique. Fried Pork Cutlet Noodle/Century Egg and Tofu: This is the additional solo lunch set we ordered. The pork was marinated in Chinese rice wine, and it was a fantastically strong flavour. Century Egg and tofu made another great palette cleanser. They've got the AC jacked up high but the weird thing with this kinda spicy food is that it doesn't really warm you up. You just feel your mouth burning while your arms are cold. At least when you're in a state of conflicting temperatures, you can relax on their super comfy pillows. The restaurant gets very crowded and busy and they do not take reservations. For dinner, we arrived at 530pm and there was no wait. The restaurant environment is very lively. Serving robots moving around, face-change performers, dancing noodles, happy birthday song singing... My eyes were very busy! If you end up having to wait for a table, they serve you fruits and tea while you wait. I even saw a manicure station there! Some locations open 24 hours a day so give it a try when you are in town.

Nonetheless, it was a friends birthday last night and she loves hot pot. I have a few favourites here that I would get every time I came, one of them is the crystal dumplings with bbq pork inside. It doesn't sound like a hot pot dish huh? It is, you boil it in soup and then the bbq pork inside becomes runny, it's hard to explain, you got to try it for yourself! Another favourite is their fish skin. I know what you want to say, all hot pot places have it. noooo... it's not the same! The one here is really really good. It's extra crispy and tasty even if you ate it on its own. Promise! The szechuan spicy soup here is super yummy. At first, it seems a little too spicy but as you eat more, it surprisingly gets less and less spicy.. it's either that or my tongue starts getting better acquainted with it. Notably delicious foods included the chicken (duh), yin yang cuttlefish paste (very bouncy texture), and herng lings (deep fried soybean paper rolls that you dip into the soup for a second). They help you remove the fish after your soup starts to boil. This place isn't an all you can eat place, The dishes cost differently depending on what you order. You have many choices in your meats. There is a choice of the local hand cut beef, or angus beef or US beef, pork neck, pork belly, chicken and a lot of internal organs. One of my favorite dishes was the angus beef, some salted egg dish and the seaweed deep fried bean curd. What i love about this place was that the music was a complete throwback. They played a lot of old Hk Pop songs from the late 80s, and the 90s along with the early 2000. I felt like singing out loud throughout dinner. The two other items I enjoyed were the fishcake with cheese filling and fishcake with tobiko filling. They had a variety of canned drinks that you could help yourself to. OMG, they had this one drink called Milkis. It was a milk soda and I drank around five cans. I've never tasted soda so good in my life. I wish they had it here. The only thing that I didn't like about this place was their dipping sauces. Hot pot places tend to have a plethora of dipping sauces. This place only had two: peanut butter and satay. And the shu mai are tight little bundles, elegantly done with a shrimp curled on top-- again nothing crazy by Hong Kong standards, but still elegant enough to warranty praise. The pain is the price. As a higher-end place, well, it's not cheap. It's not priced too badly, but then, it doesn't compete with the very best either. And one slight weakness-- the char shu in the char shu cheung were overcooked. 3.5 stars, but I'll round up.

The dim sum scene in Hong Kong is vastly different from that of the US. While there are probably…read moreless than a dozen decent dim sum restaurants in the entire West Coast of North America (including Vancouver), there are literally numerous top-notch players in HK. So one might ask - what's the difference? -- Quality instead of quantity. Refinedness over size. That means that the tiny bite-size siu mai's are of supreme quality - perfect texture and very rich in flavor. -- Creativity. I'm quite sure that most dim sum lovers would have had a version of stuffed peppers somewhere. But how about a dish (or pan) of freshly pan-fried stuffed peppers and eggplants served - you guessed it - in the pan! Absolute yumminess can somehow indeed be found. (See picture) -- More Creativity. How about some fried bean curb rolls with baked lobster broth? (See picture). Bean curb rolls are a very common dim sum dish. But wait! Deep fry these super yummy rolls and serve them with a bowl of baked lobster broth with a flaky crust? Just in case you don't know how you're supposed to eat these (LOL) - Take a piece of the roll and dip it into the lobster broth, let it soak for a few second, then put it in your mouth and at the same time contemplate how far you are away from dim sum heaven. -- A rare gem perfectly made. Trying to find a quail's egg in the US in not that hard. But trying to find a quail's egg siu mai in the US is close to impossible Especially a really good one. (See picture) For a brief moment I thought I was in heaven. But of course, I quickly realized that I'm just in Hong Kong. AKA Dim Sum Heaven. 6 stars by US standard, 4.5 stars by Hong Kong standard. But until Yelp has a half-star rating system, I'll just be nice and call it 5 stars!
