Pan fried tofu with fish paste covered with their spicy sauce
Desiree N.

I just got to stop by this tofu specialty house everytime I stop by Hong Kong. It indeed offer one of the best tofu/ soy food that can be easily get to. Other than those boutique, old-school style- made in buckets "tofu fa" (from the outer skirt island) that I have encountered years ago, this is the best thing I can find in HK. It is just so silky smooth with strong soy Bean taste. Unlike most you find in the US, it is just so soft and silky. And you get to use the "yellow sugar". I am not sure why, but it is just not avaliable in the states. So I got to have it all when I am here. Other than their sweet "tofu fa", their pan fried tofun with fish paste is a must-have. It is heavenly juicy and flavorful. And with their house made spicy sauce... yummmm.... it is just so good. I am definitely craving some more as I write. Can't wait to be back again. *tip: very limited seatings and seats are fairly small. So avoid peak lunch or after late evening when it's most busy. And best go early before they sold out their fish paste fried tofu

Cold black sesame drink, tofu dessert with chocolate, tofu dessert with red bean (highly recommend these 3).

My friends recently took me to this place and it is TOFU PARADISE. I never knew tofu/soy can be served in so many different ways. I'm a huge fan of tofu fah, so this was extremely delightful. I came here with 2 other friends, and we ordered the pan-fried tofu with fish meat, a cold black sesame soy drink, the soy bean dessert in chocolate and red bean. The prices are also reasonable considering this is in causeway bay. I highly recommend and I will definitely be back!

Looked for a cold dessert around Causeway Bay to cool off from the heat and found this. Since our time in HK, we haven't had the tofu dessert (tofu fa) yet. This was a typical HK cafe where you walk in and share a table with others while having a quick bite. They also had other tofu food that sounded really good but we weren't hungry. Once we ordered, the desserts were already in front of us. The tofu fa was already pre-scooped in a bowl and being chilled the entire time (so efficient since it probably was their best seller in that weather). First scoop in and I wanted to devour the entire bowl. It was silky smooth with the perfect amount of sugar and so refreshing on a hot day. It was cheap and good, what more can you ask for? Next time I'm back in HK, I'm coming back here to try the pan fried tofu in soy sauce and everything else!

I really enjoyed their pan fried tofu and soy milk! It's such a treat. Be careful with the temperature of the tofu.

But for me it's different. A Hong Kong cafe is like heaven for a stoner who has the munchies (just to make it clear, I've never been stoned. At least not for a long time!) But I do see the appeal for someone with these cravings. Everything comes with gravy or some type of tomato sauce. They make Coke Cola ice creams floats. French toast squares with ice cream. Funky right? But we ordered: Baked Pork Chop: this was a decent version. I think one more pork chop in the entree would have made it complete. The tomato sauce with the rice was a nice blend. Mixed grill: this was my wife's entree and she didn't like it much. She said it was ok. Flat noodles: that's what it's called in the menu but I know it as Chow Fun. I always like this dish and Kam Kee makes it decent. Service was proficient and friendly. My wife said it's a three star eatery but what takes this place into four category is they put effort into the design or ambience of the cafe whereas many places don't invest in that. It's a nice looking restaurant with decently satisfying comfort food.

The milk tea was very good. Gave 3 stars as the beef was a bit chewy. Chicken would have been better.

This place is a little hard to find because you have to walk all the way to the end of a street with a dead end and it's hidden in the corner. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious. The service was pretty good by Hong Kong standards. I ordered the scramble eggs with BBQ pork over rice and it came out in less than ten minutes! The dish looked amazing and the portion was pretty big, although I had no trouble finishing the whole thing. Hong Kong's scrambled eggs are on some other level. This spot makes them runny, and although I usually don't like my eggs runny, they tasted pretty amazing here. Doused with sweet, light soy sauce and succulent pieces of famous Chinese BBQ pork on a bed of rice, this was definitely one of the most comforting and satisfying meals here. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area! I have a new love for scrambled eggs :)

The creamy chicken macaroni soup with ham and abalone strips (and side of soft eggs with toast) made me feel like a kid again. The beef and egg sandwich, and spam and egg sandwich were exactly as expected; they came out hot and fast and in generous portions. Drinks were great too, especially the lemon tea served with real citrus slices (both hot and iced were solid), and the milk tea was as authentic as it gets. Value felt fair for the area. From the menu, tea/breakfast-style sets sit around HK$40-46, lunch plates are roughly HK$52-64, and most drinks are in the HK$18-24 range (with a few around HK$26-28), so you can order a full spread without the bill getting out of hand. Good to know: they only accept cash and Octopus, so don't count on credit cards. Overall, an easy 4 stars for a dependable, grounding first stop.

This review is only for the pineapple bun…read more I do not recommend. On multiple, multiple food review sites writing about the best pineapple bun in HK, Kam Fung made the list. Happened to be in wan chai today so why not- We got take out for two buns- one with butter and one without. But even before opening the package we knew something was wrong. Each bun was wrapped in plastic, but was so extremely heavy. How could a bun be so heavy? Opening it and taking a bite - it's like chewy raw dough. I'm not sure if it was really raw, but that's what it felt like. I couldn't finish it. I didn't even want to take a second bite, really. I'm actually very surprised at the good reviews on the bun here. Its one of the few times that Google reviews are more fair and accurate than Yelp reviews for me. Don't trust the lists!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't get this bun!!!!

Perhaps it's just not for my kind of tastebud... my younger son liked his macaroni in soup. My older one did not like his "bor lor yao"... which is the pineapple bun with a thick piece of butter... all the baos were very dense... and not fluffy like other ones we've tried. The only saving grace - the Chicken Pie! It's crusty and flavorful. Anyway, small shop, a few tables and you will be sharing with strangers if you're solo. They do pour the left over soups into a bucket right underneath your seats... so not quite sanitary... but you'll live. Bring lots of wet naps. Cash Only.

Although it was busy on my first visit, it didn't feel overwhelming, nor did I feel rushed and herded by staff. Orders are done through the QR code on the table, but my phone service was wonky that day and one of the employees was very nice and took my order. That did lead me to panic ordering the HOTTEST egg toast, but that's my own fault and I surely paid the consequence. I like spicy food, but that lacked flavor and only burned. They have a big menu, including vegetarian options and famous HK bakery items like egg tarts and pineapple bread. The regular egg toast is delicious, a heaping serving of creamy eggs over thick toast. Then of course I had to try the famous Hong Kong Milk tea, which was also delicious. It's made with a full bodied black tea and has a rich earthy flavor. No sugar added so it's not sweet unless you make it so. When I was finished, I paid at the register and was on my way.

We got a char siu macaroni soup, bolo bao, and truffle scrambled egg toast. There was a lot of egg on the toast but the truffle tasted more like a dark chocolate crumble? Not sure if that's what it was supposed to be but still appetizing. Macaroni soup was delicious. I just enjoy pasta in soup. Lol. The bolo bao was a bit of a disappointment due to the bread being cold. I don't know if there was an option to just tell them we wanted it hot. Also ordered Hong Kong milk tea but the waiter misheard even though he repeated it and sent a sweet tea instead. Not bad for a comfort food spot.

Hong Kong Cafes with a noodle focus almost always end up being my preferred places to chow down…read more Chui Hing (潮興魚蛋粉) is combines no nonsense service with killer food, along with affordable pricing and 24 hour availability to boot. The pretense is non-existent and locals (including myself!) seem to love it here. So like many noodle spots in HK, this place is fairly small. No big tables for 5+ but quite a few small'ish round tables that are good for solo eats or the invaluable food companion. The aroma coming from the semi-open kitchen should be enough inspiration for folks to know what they want upon arrival, but just in case they have the menus outlined along the wall. An easy way to start? Try a wonton and beef brisket with your choice of noodles. The wontons are somewhat pillowy in texture and full of flavor while the beef brisket is braised well while maintaining a perfectly chewy bite. The noodle variety is good, with egg / rice noodles winning over the crowd though I feel the e-fu noodles take the cake. Lastly, do not sleep on the beef tendon. It's practically butter when done right. Chui Hing does fancy itself as a HK style cafe, so other dishes like congee, fried fish skin, fried rice, may appear on the menu, focus on what to stack in your bowl instead. The staff is really helpful and welcoming.

I believe one of the ways to try durian without having to be afraid of it is by tasting it through the various dessert dishes here at this cute little place. Having no idea that this place existed, I was pretty thankful to my new local friend who suggested this place. It's located in a small little street, similar to an alley way, and by the time you get near it, you'll definitely see a long line of people waiting to get in. The wait itself isn't that bad. Most people just come here to eat dessert and leave right after. Once seated, my friends and I spent some time browsing through the extensive dessert menu and settled on trying the durian with crystal seeds (one of the many popular dishes) and watermelon and lychee with crystal seeds. In summary, the watermelon and lychee were ok. The watermelon ended up being too watery for my taste and the lychee wasn't too memorable. Both tasted decent but definitely not a must try. For the durian, this was surprisingly good! I am normally not a durian fan (the stench gets to me sometime) but here, you couldn't really smell too much of the durian in the dish. The taste of durian was also soften quite a bit, making this dish a bit more doable for those who do not like durian. I found this dish to be pretty tasty and not too sweet and it was unique to eat it with the crystal seeds. Overall, this is a great spot to stop by for desserts. If you're not a fan of durian but can tolerate the smell of it wafting through the restaurant, this place is great to try other HK desserts at an affordable price.
