Ham and eggs...nothing special
Phil C.

The high grade is solely for the steamed milk pudding, and not much else. The milk tea here is pretty good. Back to the pudding, it's hot and smooth. The texture is delicate and spot-on. The hint of ginger isn't overpowering and the pudding is not too sweet. The breakfast combinations are actually more expensive than some HK-style cafes. The ham and eggs were rather cold and not worth the money in comparison. However, again, the milk tea was plenty hot and strong. Service sucked for HK as well, perhaps with the exception of the lady at the cash register. She noticed an American quarter that I had and laughed as she though quarters were strange. Hehe, because those un-round coins in HK look so normal... ;-) Other than the milk pudding, you don't need to be here. You can get a much better breakfast experience (cleaner, nicer, better food) at, say, Cafe de Coral.

Great Place to stop for a refreshing cool dessert on one of those hot humid days in Hong Kong. The cold coffee milk was full of flavor and was oh so refreshing on that hot afternoon. They don't speak much English so the point method works the best for me. Menu has English descriptions so it was relative easy to order.

Love their logo. Not sure why

This is a nice post-meal, comfort food, treat. I've always been intimidated by checking out these types of local joints (since I know zero Canto) so it took fellow Yelper Melissa Y and her folks to get me to try this spot! Though you can get the pudding cold, I was told that traditionally you should have it warm, so warm it was for me. There are lots of flavours; I chose ginger and I loved it. As ginger is already spicy, the added warmth of the pudding really made my tummy feel cosy... if that makes any sense to you at all. Cheap, fast, and English menus are available. I'm a fan.

regular and ginger steamed milk, go to australia dairy instead

Man I thought the waiters at Australia Dairy Company were rude, boy oh boy was I wrong. They were the perfect gentlemen compared to the aunties here who looked like they would rather eat shit than take our orders. At least the Aussie guys were efficient and attenative. Service aside, the food here just wasn't very good. The steamed milk was more watery than the ones at aussie, not to mention it cost $36 here compared to aussie's $23. No wonder this place is not popular, who would pay 50% more than aussie to eat here? The beef egg sandwich was $33, also 50% more expensive than the best beef egg sandwich in HK at Sun Hang Yuen which was a glorious $22. Not to mention the beef was so friggin flavorful at Sun Hang Yuen compared to the flavorless slab of pink protein at Yee Shun. All in all, Yee Shun sucks major cajones. Go to Australia Dairy instead.

Australia Dairy Company was closed on my last day in Hong Kong, so I visited this place instead. Standard HK no-frills eatery: good food, shitty service, so that's par for the course. The double steamed milk is super tasty. It's amazing how they can get the rich velvety texture out of so few ingredients and you can really taste the milk flavor with just the right amount of sweetness. Get this. I also got the egg and beef sandwich, which really fell flat. A small amount of egg (which was overcooked) on limp toast (not really toasted IMO) and the beef had a weird bouncy texture. Again, the double steamed milk is excellent and is the thing to get for sure, but besides that nothing really stood out to me.

Was on my way to Mong Kok and found this place!! Was super excited because I use to go too Yee Shuns in Prince Edward but they closed down a couple of years ago. The price was around $32 HKD and man... it wasn't that good. The bowl was kind of tiny and the later of skin on top made it seem like it wasn't as fresh. It wasn't as smooth as I remember it to be. Quality has died down, and I could see why they had to close the one in PE The smell inside the place was kinda weird too....

English menu!

Most definitely lives up to the name. If you're unable to read Chinese like me, ask for an English menu. The milk pudding warmed is amazing for breakfast or a snack throughout the day. We also had a hot tea with milk as a drink and their egg sandwich, simple breakfast to get the day going. It was a total of 89 HKD ($11 USD) for the three items. CASH ONLY.

Steamed Ginger Milk Custard

It's places like Yee Shun Milk Company that have me yearning to visit Hong Kong again and again. It's uniquely local, reliably delicious, unpretentious, and inexpensive. Their Steamed Milk Custard is worth shouting out. It's so silky, smooth, and delicate. The flavor is of barely-sweet steamed milk and eggs. It makes for an amazing dessert or anytime-of-the-day snack. The recipe sounds so simple-- it's made with only 3 ingredients (milk, egg whites, and sugar), but in practice it's a technical, precise process. (Believe me, I've had my share of watery, lumpy, and separated milk custards.) It is a wonder how they've perfected the flavor and texture... but luckily, I don't have to think about it. All I have to do is plan my next visit to Hong Kong!

I had two main takeaways about this place: 1) I loved it. 2) I preferred it to Australia Milk Company. re: #1: We ordered a few things at my table: an egg & cheese sandwich, eggs & toast, a banana milk, ginger steamed-milk custard, and coffee steamed-milk custard. As the name of the place would suggest, the focus was on the dairy: everything was excellent. The milk was just like a banana milkshake, just not frozen. And the custard was so good that if Hong Kong as a city offered nothing else but this, it would still be a worthwhile tourist destination. The ginger flavor was excellent but the coffee, for me, was one of the best things I ate in a week-long visit. re: #2: I mention this because I read a lot of notes and reviews comparing the two, and it seems like Australia Milk Company is more famous and its custards considered better. I disagree. Yee Shun has multiple locations and seems less popular, so it's not crushed by traffic. You don't have to wait to get in, and once in you aren't stressed out by manic waiters and maitres d', as you might be in Australia Milk Co. Also, Yee Shun's menu is more expansive: their custards come in several more flavors. Australia has plain milk and egg-almond (both excellent). Yee Shun has those, plus ginger, coffee, and a few others. I didn't explore the menu very far beyond the dairy. Yee Shun, like other HK-style cafes, offers a small menu of breakfast and quirky lunch foods. The lunch foods consist of instant noodles and soups, and SPAM or "luncheon meats" to top them. If you're a tourist, you might want to try these just to say you did. That's fine. Just do not skip the custards.

Milk Pudding

YUMMMM I cannot stress this enough: YUMMMMMMM. The milk pudding here is soooo good. I've never had such good pudding before. It was so light, soft and jiggly. The pudding just melted in my mouth and there were hints of ginger in the one I got. I came here on a humid, hot spring day and walked out feeling pleased! Like all places in HK, service is super speedy and you get your order shortly after ordering it. It was overall very refreshing and light - the perfect desert, really. It was perfect in taste, texture, everything. Slightly sweet, nice and chilled, and soooo soft and light. I came here on the recommendation of an old friend who visits HK often. So glad I did! If you're in the area, definitely check it out!

Nick H.

The steamed milk was pretty good but definitely not heads and tails above what you'd find at most dim sum places. The coffee here was bad, beans tasted over roasted, bitter, and acrid. The coffee steamed milk was okay though, because the cooler temperature and dairy richness helped soothe the harsh flavor. Great texture on all the steamed milk products, no doubt about that. The chilled versions are definitely more smooth and feel more rich. This place isn't bad especially if you've never had steamed milk, but you should skip everything else on the menu.

Ray N.

Stopped by Yee Shun for the steamed milk custard. Tried the hot regular steamed milk custard and hot ginger steamed milk custard. Both were excellent. The custard was light and velvety and very smooth. The ginger custard had a good amount of ginger taste that wasn't too overpowering. Cold versions are also available but cost an extra $2HKD for each.

But for me it's different. A Hong Kong cafe is like heaven for a stoner who has the munchies (just to make it clear, I've never been stoned. At least not for a long time!) But I do see the appeal for someone with these cravings. Everything comes with gravy or some type of tomato sauce. They make Coke Cola ice creams floats. French toast squares with ice cream. Funky right? But we ordered: Baked Pork Chop: this was a decent version. I think one more pork chop in the entree would have made it complete. The tomato sauce with the rice was a nice blend. Mixed grill: this was my wife's entree and she didn't like it much. She said it was ok. Flat noodles: that's what it's called in the menu but I know it as Chow Fun. I always like this dish and Kam Kee makes it decent. Service was proficient and friendly. My wife said it's a three star eatery but what takes this place into four category is they put effort into the design or ambience of the cafe whereas many places don't invest in that. It's a nice looking restaurant with decently satisfying comfort food.

The dish looked amazing and the portion was pretty big, although I had no trouble finishing the whole thing. Hong Kong's scrambled eggs are on some other level. This spot makes them runny, and although I usually don't like my eggs runny, they tasted pretty amazing here. Doused with sweet, light soy sauce and succulent pieces of famous Chinese BBQ pork on a bed of rice, this was definitely one of the most comforting and satisfying meals here. Drinks were great too, especially the lemon tea served with real citrus slices (both hot and iced were solid), and the milk tea was as authentic as it gets. Value felt fair for the area. From the menu, tea/breakfast-style sets sit around HK$40-46, lunch plates are roughly HK$52-64, and most drinks are in the HK$18-24 range (with a few around HK$26-28), so you can order a full spread without the bill getting out of hand. My friend and her husband was craving wontons in chili oil and braised beef with tendons and okra. They really enjoyed their dishes. Everything we ordered was good, but I'm docking off a star for the servers in the restaurant (who weren't Chinese BTW and we weren't sure whether to speak in Chinese or English?).
