This is not the typical dim sum place that you usually go to. Ming's Bistro is a trendy "new wave" dim sum bistro that is on the cutting edge of fusion and innovation. This is in line with the trendy movement of "new style Cantonese Cuisine" that has been transforming the traditional Chinese dining experience.
Here you won't find the usual dim sum dishes such as pork spare ribs, chicken feet, siu mai, beef balls, etc.
The HAR GOW is probably the only main stream staple that's on the menu. Other dishes that we've tried included:
SHRIMP AND SEAFOOD ROLLS: They were deep fried to a perfect golden brown with a light and crispy wrapping. The filling was moist and delicious.
PAN-FRIED BBQ PORK BUNS: Yup, your familiar BBQ pork buns were neither steamed nor baked, but pan-fried. Creative and yummy.
PAN-FRIED LOTUS ROOT CAKE: You are probably familiar with the pan-fried daikon or taro cakes. Now enters the lotus root cake which was refreshing and delicious.
SHRIMP and POTATO PANCAKE: It's a potato pancake which was thin like a crepe and was soft and slightly chewy in texture.
BUTTERFLY SANDWICH: This is like the now trendy "baos" made with "Kam Wah" ham which cannot be found anywhere in the US. The ham was so satisfying probably because I can only find it in HK.
QUAIL EGG SIU MAI: This can be found in a many places in HK but are extremely rare in the US (though very popular in Vancouver and Toronto). The tiny quail egg complemented the moist and flavorful siu mai perfectly well, and satisfied a year-long craving for this delicate dim sum dish.
STEAMED SPONGE CAKE: The popular versions are the very large sponge cakes sliced into individual servings and served on a plate. Here at Ming's Bistro, each sponge cake is individually steamed - a perfect portion for me!
GINGER LAYERED CAKE: It had a very strong ginger flavor and was the perfect dessert with a kick! read more
