There was a short wait for tables, but the line was moving quickly and employees were working fast to get tables ready again. Delicious dim sum! We especially couldn't stop raving about their fried sticky rice we had ordered. Wow, out of this world flavor and perfect texture. My parents had actually done all the ordering of the food from the menu, so I couldn't tell you price-wise how affordable it was. But I do know that we would definitely return for dim sum if we come back to this neighborhood in the future. It is located in a shopping center.

Just the other day I was thinking, Thai is a popular cuisine why doesn't Mui Wo have a restaurant?…read moreWell... they do, hidden down a short, wide alley along Mui Wo Ferry Pier Road. After living here for a week I only spotted it the other day. Needless to say I made it my duty to give it a try. I ask that you take this review with a pinch of salt. The day before visiting Nitaya's Kitchen I arrived back in Hong Kong from Phuket, Thailand. From the outside the place doesn't look like much. A small table holds a couple menus and a cheap looking banner shows images of their menu. All that being said I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here. During lunch they have close to ten different lunch sets, meat and rice mainly, and none above $50 - my kind of place! Each meal comes with a drink, and as was my usual I ordered the Ice-lemon tea. To eat I went for a green curry while my lovely girlfriend chose the Pad Thai. The drinks arrived first, not at all what I was expecting. Perhaps it was my accent, or my poor cantonese but I was given something that looked and tasted like a combination between iced milk and lemon tea. Not great. But then the food arrived. The green curry was full of flavor, spicy and filling yet it was the pad thai that truly impressed, and like I said I just got back from Phuket! I tried, in vain, to convince my girlfriend that she really wanted the curry and really wanted to give me the pad thai. Luckily for me she said we could go 50/50. It's not that the green curry was bad, not at all, it's just that the pad thai was that good! It came with a generous helping of shrimps, which in most cheaper lunch sets restaurants usually tend to be stingy with, and the portion size was on the bigger side. I Sprinkled some peanut shavings and the pad thai was complete. I'm sure I'll be back at Nitaya's Thai Kitchen, and not only because of the prices!

We actually wanted to go somewhere else for lunch, but the place we wanted is full and we didn't want to wait for such long line. When we were just standing there thinking, the manager waved at us and greet us to get in. Since we don't want to wait...why not. And I am so glad we did. We sat down and immediately greeted with waitress handing us teas WITH A SMILE. Already felt so welcomed and only took 5 mins to order our food. I had a ramen set lunch and my sister ordered a bento set lunch. 5-7 mins after ordering, the waitress came and fill us some more tea and told us "food will come out very soon and sorry for the wait" WITH A SMILE. I mean after that i'm just amazed! This customer service is UNREAL! They made us feel so important and welcomed (not even being extra cause remember this is in Hong Kong!!!). I don't even get as good customer service when I'm in the states where we actually tip them! Anyhow food is here (and please allow me to say she put it down gently and politely WITH A SMILE), it's not bad but also not the best. The ramen noodles is good - not too soft, not too dry, just the perfect texture. The ramen soup is not amazing, but not bad also. It's not something you would drink it all like the legit Japanese brand ramen place. But this is def good enough for a lunch especially it's quite a big portion. My sister's bento box lunch is good. Again, not the fancy Japanese legit place that you would be amazed how good it is, but it's a decent cheap lunch that fill you up. The bento box has more variety and you get a miso soup and the seaweed salad! I think that's already great. Annnnd here I am again telling you about the customer service since the food is not much to mention in this case! This time the manager came to fill our tea again WITH A SMILE and asked us "Is everything good and tasty?". I was seriously almost wanted to cry out loud because of how nice they all are to customers!!! (I thought) this level of service is not even considered in Hong Kong and a local mall like this one!!! THANK YOU!!! The whole experience was so great I can't help but to talk about it here. It's not great food, but it's surely the best service I've ever had in Hong Kong! And mind you I lived here for 18 years, so... Recommended if you just want a decent price, happy, very great service lunch (that might also made you finish lunch with a big smile). If you're thinking about amazing fancy ass food? Well, look somewhere else. I'm sooo going back there for lunches!!!

First impression is good as the staffs are very friendly (not common in Hong Kong especially when its a chain restaurant), we were shown different choices of seatings (you can sit at the main area where you can purchase food from other stalls and have their items too), or sit in their own section which is more like a regular restaurant then a food fair. Since they are famous for Roast Goose, we both ordered combinations of BBQs on rice; Roast Goose with Roast Pork, Roast Goose with Soya Chicken, Soup of the Day, and 2 Hot Tea with Lemon it all came to HK$133.00 which is around CDN$22.40, considering the quality and the service I think this is very very reasonable. The Roast Goose is moist and not tough at all, and it's skin was still crispy! Usually, goose will have a gamey taste to it but not here, the goose is well seasoned and marinated perfectly. As I mentioned in my recent reviews, one thing I noticed in Hong Kong is that the turnover rate is scary, one would think some of the restaurants are doing pretty well and they should be able to carry on with their business, but I found out too often that once the landlord found out that they are doing well, their rent will be increased and they are forced to close down or jack up the price which in turn chased the customers away! Anyways, I hope this new discovery of mine will not face the same destiny and will still be here when I come back later this year!

Typical Chiu Chow fare with my favorites such as the Deep Fried Shrimp and Crab Balls, Chuen Jiu Chicken, Sweet and Sour Panfried Noodles, Soy Marinated Goose. Second visit, came with some of my parents' friends... this time, the experience was a bit different. The owner tried to upsell everything, suggested off-menu items and then charging exorbitantly. Even when my mom said to hold off on the oyster porridge, he brought it. When she told him she wasn't ready for that and said she told him specifically that she was going to only order it when she wanted it at the end, his response? Well it's already here. The upselling left a bad taste in our mouths. The food was decent, but beware of the heavy push on dishes and items you're not totally aware of and be hit with a crazy check at the end. Therefore, always ask for a la carte portions or "lai pai" even if they tell you it isn't enough for the table. You can always order more later. 3-stars for the food, 2 for the experience. (2 and 1/2 stars, am being generous considering the poor business tactics).

Taiwan Bowl is famous for their deep fried chicken steak so, of course, we had to try that. There was also a set where you could pick 3 toppings over rice. In general, their sets come with rice or noodles and a drink. The price range is anywhere from $46-$64. I thought the chicken steak was well seasoned, juicy, and definitely big enough to fill you up. I thought the minced pork sauce (you can pick spicy and non spicy) that it came with was a little bit too thick but still very tasty. We had a dumpling where the skin is made with egg, pork cartilage, and mushroom and pork balls. Everything was delicious and my tummy was quite happy after finishing it all. If I'm in this area I would consider coming back to Taiwan Bowl, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come here.

I would give this place a 1 star but at least we were seated and served and the food was edible. We decided to eat here for an early breakfast to say goodbye to my family members before my flight back home. I ordered satay beef with noodles which came with eggs and a bun. This place is always packed. From what I've seen, every time I pass by the place it is almost a full house whether it is the early early morning (8am) or later in the evening so I can kind of understand not being able to seat 6 people immediately. However the situation was handled extremely poorly by their waitresses. THE SERVICE: First of all, one person from our party arrived early and asked for 6 seats and had stated we were willing to wait a bit since we understand 6 people is hard to seat together in such a busy and small restaurant. Fortunately, there were 6 available seats within a matter of minutes and so the one person from our party was told to be seated and was told that the other 5 seats were reserved for our party. Within a few minutes another group of people were seated in our seats that were reserved (keep in mind this was within a matter of a few minutes and wasn't like the seats were reserved with no shows for hours). Obviously this caused a huge commotion when the rest of the party arrived to our reserved seats being taken when we were promised we would be seated together. After all of this, we asked what happened and the waitress seemed annoyed and asked us to sit away from each other and obviously we refused since we had reserved the seats to be together and it was our last meal before my flight home. This caused a bit of an issue and we wanted to leave and find a different restaurant that would seat us properly, however the waitress became irritated and found us a new set of tables since people had coincidently just left. We finally sat down and decided to order, however, another waitress came to take our order and gave us attitude and grimaced at every single word we said to her. It was absolutely rude and we felt the entire staff was shooting us dirty looks while we ate. THE FOOD: honestly was not very good. Maybe I was already put in a bad mood by the lousy service, but the noodles and beef were oddly greasy (as pictured) and not balanced at all. The beef tasted like it was not even seasoned one bit. I felt like the beef was cooked separately with 0 seasoning and plopped on top of the noodles and the grease just sank into the soup, making the entire dish just a messy attempt at satay beef and noodles. The eggs were also poorly cooked. The only good thing was the lemon tea I ordered. My other family members felt that the food was mediocre as well. I ABSOLUTELY HATE GIVING POOR REVIEWS and I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but the blatant rudeness and attitude of the workers and the disappointment of the food was just awful. Honestly the city of Hong Kong is known for its amazing food and restaurants and I did not expect my first 2 star review to be in the city of such great food. I cannot believe with such lackluster service and food that it can still function as a restaurant in a city with such iconic cuisine.

The menu here is much more extensive though. In fact, it feels overwhelming at times. Having said that though, they serve any variety of the Hong Kong classics, and they serve it darn well. I've been here twice now, and both times I've been really satisfied with my meal. The first time I had a spare ribs with hor fun with black bean sauce and cream of corn with fish over rice. The hor fun was perfectly stir fried, and I appreciated that there was a healthy portion of spare ribs. The fish was still crispy, even with the sauce on it. The second time I went was afternoon tea time so I had their BBQ pork with scrambled eggs and XO sauce over rice. I loved the extra kick that the XO sauce add, and the eggs were very silky smooth. We also got the beef chow fun which stir fried until it as perfectly dry but not too oily. It had a lot of "wok air", which implies the heat used to cute it was high enough. Lastly, we got the classic scrambled eggs with ham and toast. The eggs here were also light, fluffy and perfectly cooked. One of my favorite things about this place is the model of Hong Kong life! In a display case that spans one of the walls, you'll find what looks like a typical street in Hong Kong. It has the mini buses, taxis, people, short houses with clothes hanging outside. It's super cute! The inside is also decorated to look like a classic cha caan teng. Would I go out of my way to come to this place? Probably not, but if I were in Hung Hom it's definitely my top choice for Hong Kong style cafes.
