So I was a bit doubtful about an Indian spot in the middle of downtown Banff being good. But I was wrong it was AMAZING!!!! The food was absolutely delicious and tasted just like my favorites back in India. Both the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala were fantastic, though I liked the butter chicken slightly more. The Rogan josh and methi paneer were also super good. Biryani was a bit spicier but still good. They were so nice and brought out complimentary white rice and yoghurt for my toddlers. We went to Zyka after finding our first choice, Balkan, was closed for a private event. The restaurant is huge and very busy when we went there but we were promptly seated. The service was little slow Vinit understandable. We ordered salt lassi for drinks and onion pakora. Lassi was excellent. It wasn't as sour as I would like but still excellent. Onion pakora was also good. It wasn't very hot which was a bit disappointing but nonetheless tasty. The disappointment was the main courses. We ordered chicken vindaloo and saag paneer with some pea pulav and tandoori roti. Everything was very oily! The chicken vindaloo literally had half an inch of oil floating on the top. The pulav, which is supposed to be a light fare had a millimeter of oil at the bottom. The dishes themselves were ok but the oil was a turn off. Maybe some like their food that way but I certainly don't. read more

Zyka advertises themselves as "Elevated Indian Cusine" but in reality it's more like your run of the mill Indian restaurant. We came in on a Wednesday evening for a quick dinner before heading back to the airport. We were seated right away and the host and employees were all very friendly. Our server was very knowledgeable about all the different dishes and where they originate from. The atmosphere was a bit dingy and run down, but not to the point that I was bothered by it. I started by tasting the house white wine, which was a very sweet Pino Grigio. When I said it would likely be too sweet, our server offered us a bottle of a local Chardonnay for only $15, which we were very appreciative of, but that wine wasn't anything spectacular either. Onto the food, the biggest disappointment for me was that I asked for my Paneer Makhani to be spiced "medium-hot" and it came not the slightest bit spicy... the flavors were good otherwise, but the lack of spice ruined it for me. We were also disappointed with the Navratan Korma, as the vegetables tasted frozen. The butter chicken was pretty standard. For an appetizer, we ordered the Masala Papad, which was a tasty take on traditional papadums. They also brought us out a complementary dish before our food arrived (pictured), which I can remember the name of - we enjoyed it but probably wouldn't have ordered it ourselves. Overall, Zyka satisfied our craving for Indian food, but I'll try one of the other Indian spots on my next trip to Banff. read more

This place serves authentic Indian food. You can tell because most of their customers were Middle Eastern. They seemed constantly busy. And you can smell the aroma from outside the restaurant. Located on the second floor of the building. They have a nice outdoor sitting area. Even though there's usually a line during the prime hours, they get you seated in pretty quickly. The food overall to me was pretty good. Most things were spicy, but my kids still had options they could eat. Even the samosas were pretty spicy. The best was their roti bread. It was almost like it was made of Philo dough. Roti was great tasting and goes really well when dipped into their curry bases. I enjoyed the butter chicken the most! It was not spicy so my kids were able to eat it too. But the chicken was so moist. I don't think I've had a butter chicken better anywhere than this. I probably had about three servings of it, because it was that good! To my surprise, the hot and sour soup did taste a bit like a spin on the Chinese version. I didn't care for the different chutney sauces they had. There was not much umami flavor in any of them. All the warm dishes to me were pretty tasty. And I would go back myself. read more

The food and the ambience were great. This review is specifically about the service provided here. We came here twice on two different days for breakfast and lunch. Our waiter was a young guy who did a great job but, the hostess lady has an attitude that was unnecessary. I noticed this on the first day but didn't really care much. On the second day, when we talked in, she completely ignored us. She was on the phone and just didn't even care to smile or say hello even though she looked right at us. After that, there was no guidance on where to sit or what to expect for breakfast. We pulled the waiter aside and asked him. She brought us coffee that we had ordered with a cold and blank face. I'm not sure what her problem is but she needs to fix it asap with the customers. This was out of line and we will not be returning to this place. I hope Zaika reads this. read more

Disappointing lunch buffet. Only a few items, no dal, one non vegetarian curry and 3 vegetarian curries. The vegetarian curries were ok, coriander chicken was comparatively better. No chai. I will say that Indian food takes time to prepare so my review isn't about that necessarily. I just think the stereotype of Indian restaurants not knowing how to have good service is the issue. We made reservations and still it took 15 minutes of us sitting there in a nearly empty restaurant to get any drinks or appetizers ordered. The staff is friendly but they are inefficient. 5 different servers came and no one communicated with the other. **kids - the food CAN be made without too much spice but you need to stress that because their idea of spice was too much even for us Indian people. The service was wonderful and they went above and beyond. Hubby and I came here after a long hike and every time we finished our glass of water, the servers were there to refill our waters. The food came out in a timely manner and was cooked to perfection. The paneer tikka was probably the best I've ever had. The green sauce that came with it was incredibly fresh. We visited Banff ( we are from San Francisco) on 4th of july weekend ,We were craving for good Indian food . There are about four Indian restaurants in the downtown Banff but Zayka is out of the world. Their hospitality is excellent. The owner is always there looking after customers. The food is super delicious , authentic and sumptuous. The location of Zyka is great right in Banff downtown on second floor. Food: the food was buffet style for $21.95 and had a great selection from a fresh salad, all kinds of chutneys, soup, two kinds of paneer, a bean masala, and butter chicken. All of them flavorful and had generous amount of meat and paneer. They also had chicken 65 which looks like red fried chicken bites. They had spring roles too. They did some have samosa or pakora when we went. The Naan and rice was very good too. Service: I feel that the service wasn't great, when we showed up the the restaurant about 1/3 of the tables were empty but we had to wait in the back of the restaurant for about 20 minutes to be seated. I felt that they might have been understaffed as felt weird they couldn't seat us and almost forgot we were in back when they had several empty tables. Then it also look them a while for them to collect our dirty plates and get water refills. We had probably 6 dirty plates before they collected and two empty glasses before filled. This place's lunch buffet kept coming up on all my Banff food research. This restaurant is on the third floor and kind of hidden. We came for dinner without a reservation at 5PM. They were able to seat us outside on the balcony that overlooked the mountains. It was a beautiful view. The mango lasi was so yummy! I also loved the free appetizer chips, I could have eaten those all night long. We ordered the Biryani, chicken tiki masala, butter chicken and lamb vindaloo. My recommendation is one order of rice and one order of garlic naan is enough for two. The curry came in a much smaller pot than I thought, but was plenty for us and had leftovers. Zyka is an elevated Indian restaurant (as the restaurant suggests) located in the heart of Banff. To get there, you need to park your car literally anywhere you can find parking and walk to the restaurant because banff avenue is closed. Parking ranges from $5-$7 an hour. The hospitality was really good and the staff were kind and welcoming. We ordered onion Bhajia (onion fried fritter) and tea to start with. Although the appetizer was crispy, it lacked flavors in it and this could be an area of improvement. I've noted that a lot of Indian restaurants in this area tend to make food less spicy to accommodate tourists who are mainly people from US, Europe who prefer bland food. On that note, it wasn't bad at all. In the mains we did a Kadhai Paneer and a Dal Makhni. Kadhai Paneer was tangy (tangy in a good way) and Dal was really good. It had perfect balance of creaminess and sourness from the tomatoes. We got a patio and the view was splendid. I'll recommend this place. It will take 75-90 mins for send-end service if you are visiting on a weekend. read more

I'm firing up my Yelp account after 10+ years to write this review. We had an incredible experience at this restaurant, it was my favorite meal of our 5-day trip in Banff. The butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and coconut naan were out of this world delicious. I wish we lived here and could come back weekly for the incredible food and outstanding service. The staff was also extremely kind and welcoming to my 14-mo-old daughter, they offered her extra snacks (including a crazy delicious mango smoothie) to enjoy while we waited for our food. They all talked to her and engaged with us, unlike the experience at many restaurants in the US where you are banished to a back room when you bring your kids haha. We love love Zyka!! read more

My family and I decided to try out this place during our visit to Banff last week. Just walking in the door already felt cozy due to all the cute decor in the restaurant. The restaurant is spacious and even has some outdoor seating with nice string lights for when it's a little warmer. We were seated near a window with a beautiful view. The food was very delicious and they were able to provide a big range of spice levels. Lastly, the service and all of the staff members were PHENOMENAL. The owner of the restaurant also walked around to help manage/clean tables and introduced himself to multiple people including us. Very down to earth and respectful group of people. We felt very comfortable here and definitely would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
